Macbook no more battery power, message displaying mac os x quit unexpected

I had written a topic earlier saying that my macbook was not powering up because i had apparently no more battery power left. when i plug it in to the wall, a message comes up saying mac os x has quit unexpectedly, would you like to send a report... a person answered me saying that i was closing the lid before it was totally closed, and my battery was getting drained. So, finally, i keep making sure my macbook is totally closed before shutting the lid. But it happened to me again today!!! called applecare made me shut it down and press power button for 5 seconds. Im not really confident that this is going to fix my problem? Has this happened to anyone??? Please help me!

well i just called applecare, and he made me shut it down with no battery in it or power cord, and he made me press the power button for 5 seconds, so im gonna see what that does, but i dont really know if thats gonna work, why did he make me do that? he wasnt very friendly and didnt really explain anything

  • When I try to add Chinese as a language to use on my macbook, I get an error message saying that system preferences quit unexpectedly. How can i prevent this from happening?

It requires me to re-open Language&text but i just get the same error.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need Chinese for class.
    Thanks

Is there some reason you cannot update to the standard 10.6 install?  The combo updater to use is at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Otherwise you might try setting up a new user account and see if you still have the problem when logged into that.
Most likely you have a bad .plist in Home/Library/Preferences

  • Artworks consumes more battery power significantly? Maybe a GOOD IDEA!

I'm searching for ways to improve battery power and...
    1. Artworks consumes more battery power significantly?
    2. If we found a program that equalize (ROCK for example) all mp3 before copy to iPOD, it discards EQ on iPOD to improve power?
    Good idea???
    Thanks!

I'm searching for ways to improve battery power
    and...
    1. Artworks consumes more battery power
    significantly?
Very insignificantly... to such a tiny degree that it's not an issue.
    2. If we found a program that equalize (ROCK for
example) all mp3 before copy to iPOD, it discards EQ
    on iPOD to improve power?
    Good idea???
If that's what you want, then I guess it's a good idea. Be aware that raising the eq level also increases the volume. iPods distort extremely easily when the volume going into the amplifier exceeds a certain level.
Once you've run your eq software, be sure to use a piece of software called mp3gain on your files after you do your eq. It will analyze your files and completely losslessly adjust the volume, without even modifying the song bitstream data - magic! This software can handle mp3's by default, and AAC files if you add something else.

But before anyone else thinks of running mp3gain on their mp3's or AAC's... DON'T do it for files that have already been imported into iTunes if you use the 'sound check' feature!!!!!!

  • What actually uses more battery power - WiFi or 3G ?

I've read conflicting thoughts, so I wanted to ask which actually uses more battery power - WiFi or 3G ?
Does anyone leave WiFi disabled all the time?

Thanks for all your responses. I suspected WiFi used more power and you guys confirmed that.
BTW - Michael, 0.5 watts is 500 milliwatts... so you're off base with the comparison of the couple-of-hundred milliwatts for wifi vs. 0.5-1.0 watts for 3G. Excuse me... I used to be an engineer

  • Which drains more battery  power, Wi Fi or 3G?

If you had these on independently Which drains more battery power Wi Fi or 3G?

You can read Apple's recommendations on iPhone batteries here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
From the specs: iPhone 3G offers up to 5 hours of talk time on 3G...6 hours of Internet use on Wi-Fi. Not stated there is that internet use on 3G is less than the 5 hours of talk time...

  • "Mac OSX has quit unexpectedly"

I have had my imac desktop for about a year (i have 10.4 Tiger), using it daily with little to no trouble. Twice in the past two weeks, a grey screen comes from the top of my desktop to the bottom, freezing my computer with a message that informs me that i must restart my computer by either pressing the power button or pressing the "restart button". When i turn my computer off by pressing the on button, and turning it back on, a message pops up that says "Mac OSX has quit unexpectedly" and asks if i want to send a report to Apple.
    What does this mean?
    Why is this happening?
Do i need to take my mac in to get checked?

No, you need to check the compatibility of your applications to the OS you have installed. You also need to check your connected devices. Some piece of software or hardware you have is giving OSX kernel panics.

  • Installing snow leopard, got "The application Install Mac OS X quit unexpectedly"

Installing show leopard from the install disk on white MacBook (2,0 GHz), got "The application Install Mac OS X quit unexpectedly".  What's wrong?

Haven't a clue, but the machine didn't like something. Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try reinstalling again.

Thank you for responding.  Nothing actually worked!  After reading the posts online, I called Apple.  They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades.  The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did!  But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

  • Macbook Pro on battery power

I am a brand new Mac user so please forgive me if this question is obvious. When my MacBook Pro is on battery power and I leave the computer alone for an extended period of time (with the lid still open), the battery is dead when I return. Is this normal? Under Energy Saver in System Preferences, I have it set to "Computer Sleep" at 10 minutes when on battery power. Thanks for the help!

hai all,, i've already bought mbp last year,, but i just got to know about calibration things right now,, quite a surprise for me,, i've read so many articles about it,, from many forums, and now i got confused,, cause there are too many opinions about what to do and sometimes it differs each other.. which one that i should believe in?
    my 2 simple questions are
    1. after the battery is fully charged, should we unplug the magsafe or let it plugged in?
    2. some said that we should make cycle counts at least 1-2 times a week, is that true?
right now my cycle counts are 172,, cause everytime my battery is fully charged, i always unplug the magsafe,, lately i was thinking about that cycle count,, it's such a waste if i let it counts,, should i still plug in the magsafe? if i do,, where do the power that my mbp using come from? the AC adaptor or still from the battery (don't it make my battery bulge?) ?
that's a lot of questions,,, sorry,, i'm just too curious,, give me the right answers please,,
for addition my battery just lasts for 4-5hours everytime it has been fully charged,, not 9 hours like the web said... is that the effect of 'never calibrating my battery'?

  • Time Capsule backup with MacBook running on battery power.

Will time machine back up to time capsule without AC power being connected to the computer? So far I can't find an option that will let me backup just using battery power. One of TC big selling points was so laptop users could backup without wires. That is the reasons I got time capsule was so I could wirelessly backup my MacBook, but it seems I still need to have a wire connected to the computer. So if you need to have the power cord what is the big deal of a wireless backup? I have searched the topics and no one seems to have even hinted at this question.

That's strange, it allows me to back up manually. What's the charge level of your battery when you requested the backup? Could be a safeguard to prevent failed backups if the battery level's too low...
And for your original post, I'm sorry but I have to disagree. While you are still technically wired to the power outlet, you don't have to be wired to your Time Capsule or an external hard drive. You can, for example, be in your living room next to an outlet and be backing up to your drive in your computer room. Much more convenient IMO.

  • Web pages won't load when MacBook Pro on battery power

My sister bought a MacBook Pro in January. She switched from a Dell laptop. Everything was great until a few weeks ago. When she would be on battery power, she would have a hard time getting websites to load with Safari. I suggested she use Firefox and see if it made a difference. It didn't.
She can try to open a webpage and it will try to load for a long time (3-5 minutes). If she plugs in the power adapter, the page loads immediately. She still has her Dell laptop and the same websites load with no problem when using the Dell on battery.
I told her to call Apple since she has Applecare. Apple sent her a new battery even though they told her they didn't think it was that. It didn't make any difference. They told her it was her internet connection, but it works fine if the MacBook Pro is hooked up to the power adapter and her Dell laptop loads internet pages without any problem while on battery power. Then they tried to tell her just to use the power adapter all the time. She told them if she wanted to be tied down to a power adapter she would have bought a desktop. (Not a very good comment by Apple in my opinion.)
She doesn't live close to an Apple Store to take it in.
This is just the weirdest thing I have ever heard of. All of her other applications (Office, Photoshop, iTunes, etc.) run just fine on battery power. It is just the internet. At first I thought it might just be secure sites, like banking, but she couldn't get MacNN or Versiontracker to load while on battery power.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

You'll probably find an Airport aerial issue. Does she find that Airport reception (a better guide is shown in Internet Connect) will drop dramatically when she disconnects power? If so contact AppleCare again and give them this information under the same case number she wuold have gotten when they replaced the battery.
PS In space, no-one can hear you scream!
