Macbook not booting - big problem - please help!

Ok, here's my story.
The macbook was re-formated, and was working fine. Software updates followed and firmware update as well. It completed well and the computer was running flawlessly for a day or two.
After beeing shut down, it doesn't want to boot anymore.
When i turn it on, it stays on the gray screen with the apple logo and it loads. Before OS X turns one, it shuts down.
I have already tried all the troubleshooting that the help section offers (reset ram, check battery, reset power management etc...)
I called Apple on the phone, the first guy suggested that i restore the firmware using the firmware restore disk that is available on their site. The computer refused to boot the CD. It also refused to boot from Mac OS X installation disk.
I'm really out of options here.
The second time i called, they told me they couldn't much unless i paid, since the warranty is expired.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully i won't have to send it for repairs, because i'm on a tight budget.

welcome to macbook forum.
insert your installer disk #1, restart and press alt/option and it will give you all option to boot from.
if it only shows you to boot from installer disk system folder, that might be the sign that your HD is failed.
or you can insert installer disk #1, restart and press C to boot right away from the isntaller dsik.
after select the language, open utilities from menu bar and select utility / and check if your hd is mounted (on the left portion), if it mounted, choose repair disk and reboot (you might need to re-install the OS X if the system folder corrupted). But if it didn't shows up, then it might be failed as suspected.
Since your warranty is already expired, you can consider to get a new HD yourself and install that HD and OS X yourself (cheaper than using apple genius guy at apple store).

    If you want to solve your problems, unjailbreak. And don't do it again, because jailbreaking causes problems as you read about in that article. You can try Recovery Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • KT4AV Big problems Please Help!!!

    I am having a few problems. I have just built a new computer here are the specs:
    AMD Palimino 1.9GHZ
    MSI KT4AV
    Winfast 128DDR 8X AGP
    80GB Seagate Harddrive

    I have tried booting this up and it boots up then after about 10 secs it just turns off and makes the "nee nar nee nar" sound like an ambulance. Can anybody please help?

    i had same problems before..i think its the ram problem..just give it a small 'twitch' to align it a bit and it boots ok..sometimes when i mess up inside my mobo it occurs again and i just have to try and twitch it again untll it's ok....i think the ram slots are not so good and the rams are quite 'loose'..good luck

  • Macbook Pro Hard Drive Problem - Please Help

    My macbook pro had a hard drive failure so I went out and bought a new hard drive and got it to work with the Mac OS, although 2 days later it crashed and now it is not being found when I use the disk utility (Cmd-R), I even ran a hardware test and showed no trouble found.
    Should I return this hard drive and get another?

    I just installed a new ribbon cable for the hard drive...Now I get a new error that is popping a message saying "2003-f", this happens when I try to go to the online recovery (CMD-R). I tried two different hard drives and still won't let me get to the utility.
    Someone please help, my mini semester classes have started for my University, and I am stuck with no laptop.

    I'm not suggesting anything. Your options are:
    Start over. It'll take anywhere between a few days and a few months depending on your CD collection
    Go to a CD ripping agency. It'll take a day or two, and they charge about a buck or two a CD.
    Go to a data recovery agency. They charge a few hundred dollars an hour.

    Replace your hard drive. A retail hdd can be used, just be sure to get one with at least as large a capacity as original in order to use HP Recovery Discs to install Windows. For instance if you have a 320gb a 500gb could be used but not a 250gb.

    How did you delete it? Empty imovie trash? Empty Finder trash?
    Did you look in Applications->iMovie (or wherever you saved it) and see if the movie was saved there? if it is not there, it is gone ;(

    So my MacBook Pro 17" boots up to the login screen where I have two names. One of the login names works fine, but the other will not let me sign in. After I put my password, the desktop background for that name comes up then it freezes and just has the spinning mouse rainbow. I really need to get back in that name as it has all of my programs and projects. How do I fix this?

    well, it boot up fine now. i ran one boot in safe mode, then restarted and now it boots up fine. i don't really know how safe mode works, but it seemed that one boot fixed the problem!

  • Windows 8.1 will not boot anymore. Please help!

    I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012. It has been running Windows 8.1 via bootcamp perfectly fine for almost six months until this morning. I went to turn it on and I am taken to a screen that says "Preparing Automatic Recovery". From there, I am taken to a blue screen that says:
    "Your PC needs to be repaired. The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

    I recently installed an update on the Mavericks side of my computer. I don't know if that is the problem or not. I have the cd I used to install windows 8.1. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Installed Mavericks and now macbook not turning on! Please help!

    Last night I installed Mavericks onto my lap top. I let it install overnight and this morning I finished the process by signing into my lap top. I then just proceeded to fix my top sites before heading into work. I got to work and it turned on fine once again. It was not picking up the wireless signal and realized it didn't recognize the network so I had to add it once again. I picked up the laptop to move it closer to ethernet cable so I could simply copy and past the password from an email I needed to access. Once I moved it over to the new spot the computer went off. Now it won't turn on at all. The light in front blinks on and off as if it were in permanent sleep mode. I hold the power button and it seems to turn off, but when I hit again to turn on the light goes back to blinking on and off. I have no idea what happened between me moving it from one place to another to simply connect an ethernet cable to it. I don't know if Mavericks has anything to do with it. I really need some help.

    You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
    Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)
