Macbook not connecting to wireless internet anymore

I've read the previous posts and it seems like I am having a simliar problem as others. I am running OSX10.4.9... I'm not sure if it's been updated to that recently or not.
Anyway, my computer has connected with no problem to the internet for the past 8 months. Then it seemed that suddenly for the last 2 weeks it decides it isn't going to. It connects to the router just fine, but doesn't get IP address or anything, but the sometimes it does. It involves a lot of patience and turning on and off airport.
Like I said, this might be the same problem everyone else seems to be complaining about, but i'm not sure. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thank You

I have this problem as well. We happen to have 2 macbooks from mid-2005 (one bought in October and one in December). The December one is fine.
I am assuming this is a hardware failure and tried to replace the "card" only to discover that the mid-2005 model has the airport built-in.
Does anyone know which would be the better move - having the board repaired or getting a USB 802.11g plugin ? If I get the plugin, is there anything I need to do to override the broken board ?
Thank you for any advice

My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?

Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop.  Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back  for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power.  Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop.  Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility.  Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems.

    Hi galleryskins,
The article below may be able to help you with this issue.
Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots.
I've quoted some helpful highlights for you:
OS X Mountain Lion: Zoom content on the screen
Zoom with a mouse or trackpad
To zoom in and out, hold down the modifier key you specified while you perform the scroll gesture.
For example, if you have a trackpad and used the default settings, zoom in by holding down the Control (^) key while you drag two fingers up on the trackpad. Zoom out by holding down the Control key while you drag two fingers down on the trackpad.
If you chose Picture-in-picture zooming, a window appears near the mouse cursor with the magnified image. If you chose Fullscreen zooming, the entire screen displays the magnified image.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

    Hi Damien,
      Thanks for your reply.
I had not created 2 separated wireless network. The airport extreme has had create wireless allowing it to be extended and the airport express has had it to extend since day 1.
The only device that does not connect to the airport express when it is far from the airport extreme here is the iPhone 4. I've tested 2 Windows based computers, 2 Macs, 1 Samsung TV and 1 Android phone and they all are able to connect to the airport express when the signal from the airport extreme is weak (please take a look on the screen shots on the original post).
The screenshots of the 2 devices' wireless set up can be found below:
       Airport Extreme
      Airport Express
I have seen other people here on the Apple discussions complaining about the same issue with their iPhone 4 and iPad: would it be a iOs problem?

  • After recent apple update MBP will not connect to wireless internet

After running recent Security and Airport upgrades my Mac Book Pro (Intel) will not connect to wireless home router supplied by Verizon (GTE) and several public wi-fi's. Cannot get IP but sees networks. My iMac PPC still works fine. Prior to upgrade everything worked fine at home and abroad to other public wi-fi's. MBP still connects at work with AppleBase wireless. Can the upgrade be removed? Is there a simple fix? Should I wait for apple to fix this and break something else.... If not broken don't fix it..

    I'm having similar issues.
I have 2 MBP's. The newest one is about 1 month old and has never been able to connect to a WPA network. The older MBP is 20 months old and was originally installed with Tiger and gradually updated via Software Update and a retail copy of Leopard and subsequent Software Update updates to 10.5.2. Interestingly, this MBP was always able to access my WPA network until I decided to do an erase and install. I installed the retail copy of Leopard and was subsequently unable to access my WPA network. So, I went back to my Tiger install disks - but I'm guessing that whatever Leopard did *possibly* updated the firmware of the airport card as, even under Tiger, I could not access my WPA network (yes, I agree it seems unlikely that an OS update would/should update firmware but I am grasping at straws).
Trying to further understand the problem , I noted that the Network utility in System preferences would always show either a connection error or a connection timeout whenever I attempted to join my WPA network. I turned on syslog in my router and attempted to rejoin the network and saw the following errors:

Strongly suggesting that the MBP is not completing the WPA handshake.
Any ideas as to where my investigations could progress? (The router manufacturer tells me that the WPA timeout handler is not configurable on the router).

  • Macbook not connecting to any Internet source

Hello, my Macbook recently, like last night, stopped connecting to the internet at all. This is a new Macbook, just purchased a few months ago, and I've never had a problem like this. At home I've got a Surfboard cable modem hooked up to a Time Capsule. I thought this might be the problem at first, because the Time Capsule has been reporting that it has no DNS servers. Today I took my Macbook to school to connect and it refused to connect even here where I know the connection is working. The school uses an http proxy to connect, but my computer has always been able to connect to the proxy as long as I turn it on. This time it says that I can't find it. I've tried plugging it in directly to an ethernet cord at home, but that didn't work either. Given, my home internet could be messed up. I haven't tried a direct ethernet connection at school, though I am not optimistic. Is something broken in my Macbook? Do I need an update? How would I get that if I can't even access the internet?

Are you able to administer your Time Capsule using AirPort Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities)?
    Best of luck.

  • Macbook pro just stopped connecting to wireless internet.

I have tried restarting it and deleting the old usernames and paswords, but nothing works. I thought it might be an  internet problem but i am having the same problem at home and school.
    Can anyone help me?

My macbook stopped connecting to wireless internet. Ive tried everything. HELP!
Open System Preferences then select the Network tab.
Cick Assist me... then click Diagnostics
If any of the buttons on the left are red click Continue.
That should help narrow down whether it's Wi-Fi or your settings or your ISP.

  • Firefox dose not connect to the internet

After I installed the firefox 4.0 I can not connect to the internet anymore but I could connect through the explorer from the same cumputer, Itryed eferyyhing wireless or cable.

Windows 7 has a firewall which controls access to the internet on a program by program basis. It is possible that Firefox is not in the firewall's list of a approved programs.
Go to the Help feature and search on Firewall and read the information on how to allow a program internet access.
I don't use the Windows 7 firewall, I use ZoneAlarm's firewall. When I installed ZoneAlarm, I disabled the Windows 7 firewall and have never used. Thus, I can't give you detailed directions as to what you might need to do to allow Firefox to use the internet.
NOW - are you able to get to the internet with Internet Explorer, just as a test?
If not, then the problem may be elsewhere, such as your internet connection - dialup, DSL, Cable, etc.

  • Safari works great on my iMac, but not so well on my Macbook Pro since upgrading to Lion.  I get a message that I am not connected to the internet when I try to open a webpage even though the wireless icon at the top of my screen shows I am connected.

Since upgrading to Lion I am having problems with Safari on my Macbook Pro.  I am using wifi to access the internet and the internet works in all other application except for Safari.  When I try to access a webpage most times I get a error message saying I am not connected to the internet.  If I click on diagnose the problem, I get connect again to the internet through the diagnostic process and the webpage generally works.  This is not a problem when wired to the internet.

Check your network settings, in particular the advanced setting "DNS Server". If it is by chance 127.0.0.1, make sure to change is and use a know DNS Server (from Google for example, or your own Router local address).

  • My Macbook Pro will not connect to the internet or bring up Safari!

For the past couple of weeks my Macbook Pro has been having issues connecting to the internet and when it is connected it won't bring up Safari "You are not connected to the internet"
I use the correct password for my wireless internet and it still won't connect. I deleted the airport in system preferences and then made a new one. It connected for a few minutes but then disconnected and just shows an explanation point over the airport sign at the top of my status bar.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
I run a business and not having access to the internet on my Macbook is very very stressful.
I brought the Macbook into the Apple store but of course it works perfectly when I bring it in there... HELP

I also just realized it's also saying under the Airport status in System Preferences that the "AirPort has the self-assigned IP address ###.###.##.### and will not be able to connect to the internet."

  • My macbook 13 pro is not connecting to the internet even though the airport says it's connected. Can someone help me?

My macbook 13 pro is not connecting to the internet even though the airport says it's connected. Can someone help me? My iphone and other macbook connect and work no problem. What steps can I take?

    Ok....
Now go to your router's settings.  Not sure who makes your router...
Look at wireless part of it and see how many computers are actually hooked up to it.
Delete your computer from it (in your router).
    Restart your router.
After your router has restarted, try to connect to it with your MB and see if you can browse the net.
