Macbook not detecting HP s2331 display

I recently bought a mini display port to hdmi-out cable. I then connect that to an HDMI to DVI-D cable, to my HP S2331 monitor. My macbook doesn't seem to detect it though, or vice-versa. When i plug it in, the screen on my macbook flashes blue, but thats it. no options for mirroring, nothing. and my monitor goes to sleep. Whats going on?

You only need a cable from MBP to Display, i.e. Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable

It's only $9.95.
But you know, until now Mini DisplayPort can not output audio but only video. As far as I know Cable Matters Inc. has solution for audio output. If you want high audio quality Mini Displayport Male and Toslink Audio/USB Male to HDMI Female Adapter is good for you since it supports 5.1 Channel audio.

The price is $47.95, a little expensive. You will need another HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to the TV/Screen.
If you don't require high quality audio this is an alternative Mini DisplayPort Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Adapter.

The price is cheaper for $37.49. You will also need an HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to your TV/Screen.

  • My Mac Pro (2006) with NVidia GeForce 8800 GT is not detecting a second display.  What can I do?

My Mac Pro w/ NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT does not detect a second display from the System Preferences / Displays.  Even though I select the "Detect Displays" button, nothing happens.  I also have Bootcamp and Windows 7 in a partition on my drive.  When I operate with Windows 7, there is no problem detecting both of my displays.  However, when I operate with Windows 7, there is no sound signal sent from my sound card.  When I switch back to the OS X then I get a sound feed from the sound card, but then it will not detect more than one monitor.  I'm ready to pull out my hair.  Anyone have suggestions?

  • Macbook not detecting Thunderbolt display

I have a strange behavior with my brand new TB display. I unpacked it the other day, hooked my 15" MB to it and everything ran smooth. Then before going to sleep I shut down the system. At that time I had been running the TB as my main screen (manubar was on the TB display and not on the MB). When I then wanted to restart the computer it would not detect the monitor and no matter what I do it will not turn the display on. I have tried so many things also ran disk utility and reset p-ram but nothing helps. I noticed one strange thing, I connected my iphone to my TB displays usb port and it would not charge until I disconnected the TB plug from my MB, then it would give the ping sound and start charging. The MB charging plug works and lights up when connected so there is power on the display.
My system is running latest version
    Anyone whit a solution?

Disconnect the Thunderbolt cable and then Reconnect it. Sorry to tell you but Apple still, in 2013, has not figured out how to do multiple displays on their notebook computers. Kind of odd for what is claimed to be "The Most Advanced Operating System in the World".
That is one reason I bought a Dell Latitude E6420 notebook for work and leave the Mac at home and use it as just a notebook. The Dell has no problems using an external screen as its main screen, as a second screen (Extended Dsktop) and its own screen when no other monitor is connected then back to using the external monitor when it is connected. All that with the internal screen shutting off when the external is setup as the main screen, even with the lid open.
    Good Luck & Best Wishes.

    Hello,
I have bought new mac mini (late 2012) with OSX 10.9.4 installed on it.
I have apple cinema display (20"), model: A1038 from before. When i turned on mac mini the display was not detected.

    - connect only apple cinema display with HDMI to DVI and turn on coomputer
    - connect only apple cinema display with mini displayport to DVI and turn on coomputer
    - connect both displays, went to System preferences -> display and click on 2Detect display"
    nothing works
    Specs of my mac mini:

  • Imac does not detect external vga display

Please help with connecting external vga display to an imac 21.5'', late 2012, OS X 10.8.5 via Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
I have connected an external monitor (Fujitsu Siemens) to the thunderbolt port of the imac using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The imac does not detect the external monitor. I have followed all instructions and suggestions I could find at Apple Support Communities without success.
The monitor is in perfectly good working order as it has no problem connecting and performing flawlessly with a dell windows laptop. The imac, connected via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to the D-Sub connector of a Samsung smart TV, also worked perfectly.
To add insult to injury, occasionally, when restarting the iMac with the external vga display connected and powered on, the iMac screen starts intermittently turning blue for a brief second or so and resuming back to normal. The frequency of 'blueing' is once in 2-3 seconds. This particular rather disturbing problem, luckily ceases when the external display is switched off.
Any advice and help with resolving the above connection problems will be gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

  • Macbook not detecting external HD

    Hi,
My macbook just suddenly stopped detecting my 2 transcend external hard drives. It reads other devices eg card reader, ipod. The blue light on the HDs light up when i plug them in but the devices aren't showing in the volumes folder, desktop or disk utility.
I've tried the devices on other computers and generally they work fine.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Are they all running the same operating system?

  • MacBook not detecting built-in video camera

I have Skype on MacBook using MAC OS X Snow Leopard and it works fine. I also have it Windows Vista using Parallels 4 on the same MacBook. Windows does not seem to recognize my MacBook has a built-in camera so that it won't work for Skype for Windows or anything at all. Any idea how I can make Windows see my MacBook's built-in-video camera?

Did you replace the firmware too?
Otherwise, it sounds like you're camera has simply died. I would take it to an Apple store and they'll run a diagnostic on it to know for sure. They'll do it even if you're out of warranty!

  • Macbook not detecting iphone is connected

    Got a problem..
My macbook won't detect that it's connected!
I've tried 2 different usb cables, and interchanged them on my PC just to make sure both cables are working (They are - The PC detected the iphone no problem)
But my Macbook doesn't pick up anything! Tried both USB ports - they seem fine, as I can connect my mouse to them with no problems
Just did the 3.0 upgrade yesterday on the macbook, so the problem has only occured today.
    anyone else had similar prioblem?
    macbook 10.4.11
    itunes 8.2
    iphone 3G with 3.0 OS

    thanks for the reply Ingo..
It seems to be working now (weird!)
I tried looking in iphoto - and didn't see the iphone
then had a look in the system profiles, as you suggested - and sure enough the iphone was listed in the usb ports.
restarted the macbook again, and my iphone happily beeped that it had made a connection, and itunes launched as normal.
So it works - But I'm unsure as to why I had this problem (I had restarted the machine a couple of times prior to your suggestions, and didn't have any connection - But it works now, I'm happy)
    cheers

  • Macbook Air hdmi display not detected

Hi, my 2011 Macbook is not detecting my hdmi display - the screen flashes blue briefly but no display is detected in system preferences or anywhere else.
    Any ideas?
+I am using a mini display port to hdmi adapter with the thunderbolt output and I've tried rebooting with display plugged in and my osx is 10.7.5 Lion.
    Any help appreciated

Actually I fixed it in the end by getting a new cable, it turned out that for whatever reason my cable was not up to the job.\
I found that a cheap £5 one piece thunderbolt male to hdmi male cable off ebay did the job well and it was my two piece - thunderbolt male to hdmi female attached to a standard HDMI to HDMI cable which caused the problem.
Seems like HDMI can be quite fussy and either it works or it does nothing, no in between.
So my fancy mac now works great with my cheapo alba hdmi tv i paid £25 for and carries both sound and video!
(I don't think I'll go back to windows if I can help it, not after using a mac.  Once you've had a mac you realise what a pain in the a*s windows is .. I hardly ever feel like punching my mac )

  • Mac Air not detecting NEC Mutlisync LCD display

Mac Air is not detecting an additional display. Any ideas?

same problem w/macbook air 13" with snow leop. minidisplay to dvi acer 24" external... intermittent the external won't wake up. After much research I see others have the same problem and no answers except: 1. plug/unplug dvi, 2. reset to sleep and rewake up -
This maybe connected to the monitor not auto detecting which input is connected after wake.  from what I see it's no better w/Lion or Mt Lion

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro sleep and external display problem

I recently upgraded to the new 2010 15 inch core i7 Macbook Pro. The problem i have is that it will not detect an external display (23inch Cinema) after waking from sleep. This happens after using the display to extend the desktop and also when using the Macbook in closed mode.
I've managed to get it to detect the display only after either restarting the Macbook completely or by going into energy saver and switching to dedicated graphics then going back to detect display.
It seems that when on integrated graphics it doesn't register that an external display is connected. If i leave a program open and running that causes the dedicated graphics to kick in then it works ok. If i close all programs, shut the macbook pros lid, computer sleeps and external display shuts off. If i click the mouse to wake with lid closed, apple logo lights, machine starts up few seconds later macbook returns to sleep. If i open the screen the machine wakes as normal but the external monitor doesn't.
Any help is much appreciated as its starting to frustrate me now...
    Many thanks
oh and im running OSX 10.6.3

I thought it was intermittent to begin with until i started looking into it. By leaving programs open, like aperture, before i put the machine to sleep it appears to wake the external monitor up without a problem. If i shut all programs or leave basic things open like safari and mail which don't require the dedicated graphics, then upon wake it wont register an external screen is connected.
Manually detecting displays in settings doesn't work.
Disconnecting and reconnecting mini display port doesn't work.
Turning off power to cinema display and powering back up doesn't work.
To get the display going again its either 1) turn off macbook pro and re-boot or 2) re-start the machine then the display is automatically recognised. Or 3) launch a programme that kicks in dedicated graphics then manually go in and detect displays again..... like magic the display then springs to life.
    No ideas anyone??

  • Displayport not detected

Hi, since I upgraded my Macbook pro to Yosemite my rocketfish rk-ap305 mini displayport to hdmi adaptor (connected to my tv) is not detected. The display menu is basic: choice between display and color. My adaptor worked well before the upgrade. Thanks for any solution.

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.
