Macbook not printing to my wireless networked Canon MX860

Hi folks,
This is the set up : I have a wireless router (Belkin) connected to the cable modem. My Dell laptop (pc) connects to the internet wirelessly via the router as does my (my wife’s actually) Macbook.
I recently purchased a Canon Pixma MX860 so that both computers could take advantage of this wireless set up.
The Dell had no problem connecting to the printer via the initial setup i.e with USB and then subsequent wireless connection.
The Mac, however, found the various networks no problem, then found the SSID no problem but then could not find the printer on that SSID. Interestingly the LCD on the Canon, which goes into sleep mode after a period of inactivity, lights up again when the Mac is searching for the printer.
I have tried various suggestions such as removing the router to try and connect directly to the printer, setting up with the Dell turned off, reloading the drivers, downloaded the driver wizard from Canon.
Things I haven’t done… I have not set it up as a shared printer; I have not downloaded “Bonjour” because the printer is not directly (via usb) connected to any of the computers. But maybe these things have to be done????
Any suggestions?

i can't believe how frustrating this is. I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and this printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

  • MacBook not connecting to public wireless network

So I have had this MacBook for 3 years now, and I have always been able to connect to my wireless network at work, which is password free.
But over the past few days, my MacBook has not been able to connect, have tried everything I know( not a computer whiz, but can survive)
I have gone on network diagnostics, and all the icons on the left panel( airport, airport settings, network settings, ISP, Internet, server) are all red instead of green.
I can still connect to my home network.
    Please. Need your help.
Ps: my workplace network administrator has not made an new changes to the network.
    Thanx

Hi, I had the same problem : airport was not automatically connecting to the previous network.
After browsing a while on the forums I came to think that the solution was to start all over from the begining. So I deleted the information mac os has from my network (ssid + wep key). After inputing it again the issue was gone.
More precisely I gone to system prefs, then to network prefs, then to airport prefs. Then I chose "by default, connect to prefered network". Then I deleted my prefered network. After that I desactivated airport, reactivated it and inputed my settings.
    hope that'll help

Help please.  I have been unable to print from the deskjest 3050 on my wirless network.

Brose, if you have a new router then you would have a new SSID. You will have to re-install the printer via USB and then convert the printer to wireless using the software on the computer. You can also remove the software form your computer and download it here :

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

  • How do i connect my MacBook Air to a Printer on my Wireless Network

How do i connect my MacBook Air to a Printer on my Wireless Network ? The printer is connected to a PC running Windows 7. That PC is connected to my Wireless Network. MacBook connects fine to Network, but can't find Printer.

    Hi Kappy,
Thanks for your response. I followed your instructions (for Mac OS 10.6.7). It seemed to set up OK, but when I tried to print I kept getting the following Failure Message "Session Setup failed : NT_Status_Invalid_Parameter".
When I get the "Advanced Window" should I enter anything into the "Location" field ? Maybe I am not entering the correct Workgroup, Server or Sharename ? Is there a way to make sure all of that is correct ? I went on to the computer that the printer is connected to and verified all of that, but am not sure I looked in the right places.
When I print via my Home Network from another Windows 7 Computer to the same PC, it works fine. I just can't get it to Print from my MacBook Air.
I thought of using the IP Address. How do I find the IP address of the Computer that is connected to the Printer ? Is it what they call the IPv4 Address, or the IPv4 Default Gateway ?
Appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi DWILKEN welcome to the Forum,
I understand that you are trying to get your printer connected to your router. I will try my best to help you do this. In this document for Installing the Printer Software on a Wired (Ethernet) or Wireless Network (Using an Access Point) are the steps needed to install the printer on the router. In order to connect them you will need to connect the printer to the wireless network before trying to install it on your computer.
Here is a document on How to Find the WEP or WPA Key or Password for Your Network as you will need this to connect your printer to your router.
I hope this information helps, let me know how it goes.

  • Can I connect a wireless printer to two wireless networks

I searched and couldn't find an answer to this exact situation. The answers to similar questions didn't seem to work.
Can we share a wireless printer over two wireless networks without adding hardware or changing the wiring or doing complicated software modifications?
    Here is my set-up:
Cable Modem> Linksys Wireless Router “N” on the first floor > older AirPort Extreme “G” via ethernet cable on second floor > Laser Printer via USB Cable on the second floor, plus an AirPort Express to extend the area on the second floor. We have 2 MacBooks and 1 MacBookPro that connect to the internet via either of 2 wireless networks. Generally, for better connection, you choose “N” if you are on the first floor and “G” for the second floor.
Currently, if you want to print to the USB Printer, you just select it in the print dialog box. It does not matter if you are on Network “N” or Network “G.”
We just added a new wireless Printer that’s on the first floor. (No, I didn't read the directions, the printer screen said if there is a W?? button on your router, press it. I did and it automatically connected to the “N” network. It also has its own email address for printing without a computer, but that still doesn't solve this question.)
If you want to print to this printer, you must first change the computer’s AirPort setting to join the “N” network. If you don't, you still get the print dialog box, but eventually you will notice that nothing happens. The document just sits in the Printer’s queue.
Is there a way to get a computer on the “G” network to find the wireless printer on the “N” network without first changing networks?
Remember, it automatically finds the USB printer that is plugged into the “G” network router.

It used to be that if you wanted to wirelessly extend the range of a network, you'd have to set up a WDS. (WDS = Wireless Distribution System.) There was no "Extend a wireless network" option and no "Allow this network to be extended" checkbox—you'd have to fill out lots of WDS information yourself. It was sort of a pain.
Then, with the 802.11n AirPorts, Apple introduced the "Extend a wireless network" option, greatly simplifying the setup process. It accomplishes the same thing as a WDS, but it's easier to set up and has less overhead. However, it can only be used if every AirPort in the wireless network supports 802.11n.
Your Express may support 802.11n, but your Extreme is older and does not. So "Extend a wireless network" won't work for your network. That's why you got errors when you set the Express's "Wireless Mode" option to "Extend a wireless network." Instead, you'll have to do things the old-fashioned way* and configure the Extreme and the Express to be part of a WDS. Your network will still work as desired: the Express will rebroadcast the signal from the Extreme, and clients will connect to whichever station has the stronger signal. It's just that you'll be using the older WDS technology instead of the newer "Extend a wireless network" feature.
"Join a wireless network" is something different entirely. You'd use it if you wanted to connect to a network but not rebroadcast it. This could be useful when, for instance, your main router isn't an AirPort but you want to use AirTunes. In your case, however, this option wouldn't be very useful.
Look at [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2588489] for more information.
*Actually, the old-fashioned way would be to use modems. Or to forget about the internet and send snail mail instead.

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus not staying connected to wireless network

Just picked up a HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - E710n the other week and set it all up and it was working wonderfully. But I noticed after it goes into sleep mode it disconnects from the wireless network and doesn't reconnect.
I will get a overview of how I have it all set up.
I have a DSL modem with a TRENDnet TEW-639GR router connected to it. I have set my router to reserve IP addresses for the computer and printer. That way I can leave the computer and printer wireless IP settings as automatic and they will always get the same IP address. I do this for the wireless network at my parents place as well and it works perfectly with their HP Photosmart C7280.
I also set up the HP ePrintCenter feature on the printer so that I can print by sending the printer an email. When I first set it all up this was working great. I tested it all and it was awesome. When I would log onto the ePrint website it would show as connected and it was all good.
So then what happened was it was all fine then the next day when we want to print something the computer says the printer is offline. I go on the HP ePrintCenter website and it says not connected. I print out a wireless network report page and it says not connected. After I printed that test page, I guess it woke up the printer enough or something as it then connected to the router and printed fine as well as showed up as connected on the ePrintCenter website. So all was good. Then the next day the printer goes to sleep and again it shows as disconnected.
Should it not be staying connected in sleep mode? How will the printer know something is being sent to it and that it should wake up if it is not staying connected?
Any suggestions of what I should change with the settings? I suppose I could try setting the IP settings as static on the printer itself but I shouldn't need to as I set it to static on the router. When it finally does reconnect it does always keep the same IP. If that is what is required I guess I could do that but then what is the point in having an automatic setting if it doesn't work? I would rather have this issue fixed that have to do a work around for it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
The printer should stay connected to your wireless network after the printer enters the sleep mode.
This is not an expected behavior.
I believe such an issue may be caused due to a signal quality or any conflict as too many broadcust on the same channel.
Please try the following steps in order to better understand the issue:
Follow the Wireless Setup Wizard if your printer currently disconnected
    Enter the Setup menu.
    Enter the Network menu.
    Click Wireless.
    Click Wireless Test Report.
What is the signal quality provided by the report and what channel used to broadcast by your router?
If you may scan and attach the report, it may help to better understand any possible cause.
    Regards,
    Shlomi

  • Can't connect my P1102w printer to my wireless network (using Mac OS 10.6)

I have a vanilla home wireless network (D-Link to a cable modem), and a MacMini running OS 10.6.8. My Mac laptop and 4th. Gen iPad work seamlessly. But my hours-long attempt to connect my new HP P1102w to the network has been totally frustrating, despite close study of the pdf documentation, the printer's self-test/Device configuration sheet, browsing this forum, watching a slew of YouTube/HP videos, and  following all manner of directions.
The only consolation is the printer works fine on its USB connection.
Here are some issues I've encountered that have stopped me in my tracks:
Carefully following both the pdf instructions and HP's online how-to video, I get through Step 6 w/ no problemn. but then I go to Step 7, which says:
" Under Communication Mode , click Infrastructure , select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list, and then click the << button."
Problem is there's nothing of the kind in that window. All I see is a status of the Wireless: enable or disabled (depending on a choice). And even if I try selecting Enabled, it switches right back to Disabled. Aside: I note the printed instructions show a copyright date of 2011. That's ancient history in the CPU world.
Other issues: The only IP address I can find for the printer is the IPv4 address, but that's only for Direct Print Configuration. Is that the IP address I'm looking for?
The printer's hardward address, I assume, is its MAC ? Boy, I could sure use clearer use of language here.
So, needless to add, I'm stuck. It seems it should be THAT hard, but so far nothing I've been able to find on HP support or the forums seems to help. Thanks for any advice you can provide.
PS. I'd hate to have to return this printer because I'm a two decade HP printer lover, but, alas, I may have to if I can't find a solution.

    Hi @Northwest-John,
I see by your post that you are unable to setup the printer on the wireless network. I can help you.
Update the printer's firmware by the USB connection just to make sure that isn't causing any issues with the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) not allowing the proper changes. HP LaserJet P1102w Firmware Update Utility.
The newest version is 20130703, which you can compare by printing the configuration page.
Power cycle the router and restart the Mac.
The printer won't recognize the network name if there usually is any symbols or spaces in the network name.
Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. Sometimes the Embedded Web Server (EWS) won't open in other browsers. Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared.
(hold down the x button and when the printer makes a noise let go)
Connect the USB cable from the printer to the Mac.
Go to the Apple, system preferences, print and fax.
    Double click on the P1102w.
    Open the utility.
    Click printer setup.
    Click HTML config.
This should open the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
    Click the Networking tab.
Click Wireless from the list on the left.
(Click Enable if you have this option)
Under Communication Mode , click Infrastructure.
Select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list and then click the << button so the network name moves over to other box.
From the Security Mode pop-up menu under Authentication , click WEP, WPA/WPA2 or open . Your selection depends on which Wireless Security Protocol your network uses.
Make sure you select either hexadecimal or alpha depending on your password. (very important)
    Apply the settings.
In the confirmation box, (changes have been saved) click OK.
You should get a solid blue light on the printer shortly.
Then all we have to do is delete the USB driver and add the network driver.
    Click on the Apple.
    Click system preferences.
Click the print and fax icon.
Highlight the printer and click on the - sign to delete the printer. (USB driver)
    Disconnect the USB cable.
Then click the + sign and select the printer from the list and click add. (P1102w bonjour)
    Test the printer.
If you have any issues with the HTML config opening then do the following steps:
    Close any applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, computer, MAC harddrive, Library, Printers, HP, LaserJet, click on folder for your printer, click on EWS browser or HTML config, click the Networking tab, click wireless on the left and fill out your information. (make sure infrastructure is selected) Apply settings.
Then delete the USB driver and add the network printer.
Let me know if you are still having issues with filling out the EWS for the printer.
    Have a nice day!

  • Connecting a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network

how do i connect a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network? Wi-Fi connection automatically assigns an IP address and indicates that the Mac won't be able to connect to the internet. Two other MacBook Pros connect to the network without any problems. These Macs travel from home to school and back again and automatically reconnect when they are brought into the house.

I have read a few corporate IT policies and they are all PC-centric.
Unless your mac runs any windows tools such as Bootcamp Wine, Crossover, or a VM in parallels or VMware then your mac has no virus implications.
A few years ago word documents could be infected with macro viruses and although did not affect a mac a mac could pass them on. Up to date versions of Microsoft Word documents are not vulnerable to this flaw.
You could install ClamAV its a free anti virus app for the mac that would keep your IT dept happy.
Maybe I can find out what the WEP key is with a utility of some kind.
If you had a compatible usb wifi dongle and kismac you could crack their WEP key but this would be probably illegal in your country so I dont condone this activity but if you got written permission from your employer to give them a free penetration test, something that normally involves hiring a security company this would save them money and highlight the insecurity on their network.
    Or use an Ethernet connection.

  • MacBook, 10.4.8, and wireless network problems. How I solved it.

    Hi
I've seen a few post about not connecting to a wireless network after the 10.4.8 upgrade.
Before the 10.4.8 update my MacBook worked fine on my wireless network; after the 10.4.8 update I could not connect to my network via AirPort, though it kept offering to connect to my neighbours networks. My wireless network is configured for WPA.
I managed to get this working by deleting my existing AirPort network configuration from System Preferences and creating a new configuration with the same network settings.
    Hope this helps,
    Matt
    iMac G5 1.8GHz 1GB 20"; MacBook 1GB; Mac OS X (10.4.8)

In "Network" I deleted all prefered networks one by one, set it to automatic, turned airport off and back on, and add my network again as prefered network, set it back to connect to preferred network. see apples instructions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482
Now its fast and connects by it self again.
