Macbook not reading new 320gb HDD!!

I just purchased a new 320gb Hitachi hdd and I'm trying to install Leopard using the Leopard DVD and when it's time to select the hdd to install it in there is nothing there. What am I doing wrong? Is there something wrong with the HDD? It's a 320gb 7200rpm Hitachi. I'm using a Black Macbook Core Duo.

How would I do that?
I think the suggestion was to simply format the entire drive again, but with a single partition. That would destroy any data that was placed on either partition, including the Leopard installation if you've already done that.
You wouldn't have any easy way of just removing that partition and adding the capacity to the larger partition. If it's only 1 GB, I'd just leave it in there unless you really don't like seeing the drive icon on your desktop.

Does anyone know why my computer will not read newer SD cards. I have a reader that read early cards fine but not the new ones.

How many GB is your new card?
Older machines have SD card slot, new machines have SDX card slot.

  • Portege M400 unable to find new 320GB HDD

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade my 80Gb HDD to a new WD 320GB, and finding issues. Although I have upgraded the Bios to the latest version the hard drive is not visble to any operating system when it is in the main HDD Bay. The bizare thing is it is fully visable in the removable bay. Is this a configuration issue I am missing or will the machine not reconise the 320GB drive as it's main drive?
Any help or pointers would be great
    Thanks

I am using 320GB HDD without any problem... I'm not shure, but you can try what i have done. Go to the bios last page, and ceck your controler state - it shut not be in the JBOD state. RAID 0 is the corect state. then execiute command "create RAID 0" - or something like that (i don't remember the command exacli). Your disk shoud be seen in the system.
If you instal windows xp from microsoft disk, not form hiden partition... then you need HDD controller drivers. Without them it wont work, iven if you have the bios setup corect. The funny thing is that, you can instal them only using FDD drive (win xp text mode) - slipstreaming the drivers with WInLight is possible (putting the drivers in to windowsxp CD)

  • MBP Not Reading HSF+ External HDD/Bootcamp Win7 Is ?!?!

Hi - this is a strange one to me. After creating separate partitions (NTFS/FAT32/HFS) for my LaCie Ext-HDD, I been able to shuffle data between my Mac and PC computers (teach in a lab). However, one day - for no specific reason - all drives except FAT32 would not read. But what's more odd is that the HFS is readable only in Win7. What's more strange is that the NTFS drive is not, and is only readable in OS X (via some 3rd party software).
Has anyone experienced an HFS HDD that's not readable in OS X (Snow Leopard)?
Any advice on how to retrieve my data in OS X (the BC-Win7 is not large enough to support the data transfer) ?
    Thanks so much in advance!
    ACV

I have a similar problem... tried to install winXP on an external HDD (read in FAQ after there you are not suppose to ><)
anyway after I installed XP my mac cant find any bootable partitions (had OSX 10.6.3 and Win7 working perfectly)
the wierd thing is when I boot off the intallation CD I can only see the Win7 partition and it says its empty.. even after I removed the HDD from my mac and hooked it up as an external HDD to my mac desktop the Win7 partition came up empty aswell but the mac partition was nowhere to be found...
I really need my data back from my Mac partition I dont really care about what was on the Win7... please someone tell me there is a way!!

  • Macbook cannot detect new internal HDD

    hi there,
first of all, please excuse my terrible (german) school english. i hope you understand my problem.
last week i´ve bought a new internal western digital 250 gb hdd (the scorpio model). if i install the hdd in my macbook it could not be detected by the leopard installation dvd. the disk utility shows only my dvd-drive.
if i install the wd hdd in an external usb case i could format it. but even then, the macbook doesn´t detect it (after reinstall it internal).
if i connect the wd hdd via usb and copy the files from the old drive via carbon copy cloner onto it, i could boot from the usb port without any problems.
do you have any idea what´s the problem here?
    thx

    Hi ZeeO,
Dein Englisch ist sehr gut! I don't now exactly why your hard drive isn't detected. I recently installed a 500GB Western Digital HD in my MacBook and everything went fine. You can check out my blog and see what I did and perhaps you can figure out what you did differently or wrong.

  • Macbook Not Recognising new Hard Drive.

    Hello!
Macbook White 2006 Model. I replaced the original 60GB hard drive in 2008 for a 320GB HardDrive.
The 320GB failed two weeks ago and I have bought a replacement (Samsung HM641JI - 640GB).
When I install the new hard drive and boot using the Snow Leopard install DVD the macbook won't recongise the new hard drive as a location (I've tried new install and back up from time machine).
When I install the original 60GB hard drive the macbook boots no problem. I am using it to post this message.
Any ideas why it won't recognise the new drive?

    Hi,
mots likely the new harddisk came preformated for use with Windows or even completely unformated.
In that case you cannot install OSX on it before 'preparing' the harddisk with Disk Utility.
After booting from the OSX install DVD Disk Utility can be found in the 'Utilities' in the Top Menu.
    Run Disk Utility
In the left pane of it click on the internal harddisk (not any partitions on that harddisk)
In the right pane click on the Partition-Tab
    Set it to one partition
Use 'MacOS Extended (Journaled)' as file system
click on the Options-button and set GPT (GUID Partition Table) as Partition scheme
    Start the partitioning.
After that is done quit Disk Utility and you should be able to install OSX on the new harddisk.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Macbook Not Reading Disc

I went and purchased Microsoft Office 2011 to install on to my Macbook Pro, but once I insert my disc..the loading stalls. The icon doesn't show up on my desktop and I've always ended up going to Disk Utilities to eject my disc.
Is there a problem with my disc drive or do I just need to get it cleaned?

The same has happened to me recently with "MS Office 2011".
At the same time, I had also bought from an Apple Store copies of: "Things" on CD and "iLife 11" on DVD. "iLife 11" installed but "Things" did not - it stalled exactly as the "MS Office 2011" does. I then recalled that I had bought "Bento 3" some months before and that had failed to appear on the desk top when I tried to install it. I got the Bento folk to provide me with an online download on that occasion as I thought the problem was with the disc.
Movies on DVD work just fine.
So it seems that Apple (DVD) installation discs work just fine - but other installation discs (CD and DVD) don't.
I've been reading the threads on the message boards and about the problems with superdrives on MBPs. I'm going to give the compressed air, the disc cleaner, and the resetting the PRAM options ago. I've already reset the permissions using the Disk Utilities - with no effect.
If those fail, I'll be asking the Geniuses at Apple what to do and I hope they will come up with a decent answer why Apple software installs but other companies' software doesn't.
After that the next step will be a request for a refund for "Things" and "MS Office 2011".

  • Itunes not reading new iphone

Here's the story, My first iphone was a 3g. I synced it to my little brother macbook. I ended up braking my iphone so at the time didn't have money for a new one so I used my friend's old 2g iphone and sync that iphone to a windows pc computer. I just got my new 3g and my little brother updated his macbook to a leopard so now itunes doesn't read my iphone but it charges it.

Download the current iTunes version and re-install it over the existing on your brother's MacBook - no need to delete iTunes first.

  • Some employee subgroups not reading new tax?

    Hi guys.
There was a change in the tax rates in the new zealand payroll starting 1October 2008 and we made the changes to the taxes in the tables manually according to sap note 1180876. now after applying the changes, one employee subgroup is picking up the changes and calculating correctly, all other employee subgroups are still using old tax rates for the period in october. Anyone help and detail, what could possibly be wrong and how to rectify the problem. Thank you guys.

The assigment seems to be ok, however i have  now realised that its not about the employee groups, in fact all groups are affected except and only for those employees with a threshhold 999999 which is the highest bracket. i looked at the records, in the tax tables, the 999999 bracket is like this
       01.04.2004 to 31.03.2008
    > 01.04.2008 to 30.09.2008
       01.10.2008 to 31.12.9999
on one page and if the next record is selected the correct details appear. but the other records are created on different pages. could this be the cause of the problem?
Also when i used delimit, the system would create the new record i.e. 01.10.2008 to 31.12.9999 on the same page e.g.
    tax code             Z
    Threshold           30000
then details                                              then record   >01.04.2008 to 30.09.2008
                                                                                    01.10.2008 to 31.12.9999
but then if you select the 01.10.2008 record, the details are wrong. should i change the details here, but then the threshhold would be wrong because it is greyed out on this screen? Help.

  • MacBook not reading some cds and dvds (so disappointing)

I just got the new 2.16 Macbook (white) a few days ago at Frys in Houston. Everything was going ok until I started to load m-audio protools from the cd, it repeatedly ejected the cd,so I tried loading some of my other software from cds and they seemed to work fine, then I tried to load protools again and after a few trys the cd drive worked. Day before yesterday I tried to watch the new movie Apocalypto and here we go again, it keeps ejecting the dvd.It will play some of my other dvds but not all of them, and yes they are super clean with no scratches. Here comes the crazy part, as soon as I put the dvd that wont work in the drive if I pickup the Macbook and shake it for a few seconds (not to aggressively) the dvd starts playing and it plays great the whole length of the movie. When I eject the dvd and try and play it again it wont accept it, it just keeps ejecting it. I returned it to Frys and got a whole new Macbook thinking I had a bad drive in the first one. The second Macbook has the same problem,so I returned it last night. I took the Apocalypto DVD with me and tried it on all of the Macbooks and Macbook Pros that were on display. They had a new 2.16 Macbook (white) just like the two I had just bought and it would not accept the dvd either. They also had the 2.0 Macbook on display and again It refused to load the dvd (keeps ejecting). I even tried the 17" Macbook Pro and the 15" Macbook Pro. The 17" wouldn't work either but the 15" worked great every time I put the dvd in. The drive that was in the 17" was the UJ-85J. The drive that was in the 15" was the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA 4080MA. The drive that was in the two Macbooks that I had bought and in 2.16 that was on display at Frys was the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E. The drive that was in the 2.0 Macbook on display was the UJ-857D. Has anyone had this kind of problem lately. This is so disappointing, other than the drive acting up everything else was working great. My Quad G5 plays all my dvds great. Including the new Apocalypto movie.
    Any Idea Guys
    Thanks
    Joeip71

You need to take the machine with your DVD's and CD's that are not working into an Apple Store or to an Apple Authorised Service provider and demonstrate the issue to them so that they can accurately diagnose the problem and replace the drive if it's found faulty. No one here will be able to tell you how to fix a drive which likely needs replaced under warranty.
Alternatively, call Apple Support and they will assist you over the phone, and if they're unable to help you can mail it in for repair. Or (this is what I'd do) since you bought it less than 14 days ago, return it to a Fry's store for a refund or exchange for a new one.

  • Windows 7 does not recognize new laptop HDD?

I got a new hard drive for my comuter, I went to install windows on it but the installer said is no drive there, and tells me to get the proper drivers. I don't know where to get the drivers, and it's a Western Digital so it uses the built in drivers from windows. My desktop recognizes the drive fine, but the laptop does not. Any help?

Nevermind.  I removed the device, turned the power off and back on to let Windows reinstall the device.  That made the problem go away.  I should have tried that first.

  • Macbook not reading internal or external drives?

I have a weird DVD issue with my Macbook Po 2.16
Firstly the DVD started to spit any disc you put in it as they sometimes do, so rather than fork out to replace the drive in an aging computer I opted for an external burner.
and here is the weird but, the external USB burner acts exactly the same - you put a disc in and it just spins - both drives are recognized by disc utility and the external works fine on my office machine just not my macbook.
This leads me to think it may be software / drivers related, anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks
Already tried that, I probably should have said that it is happening with any disc that is put in - original DVD, data or RW.
My original thought was it was a duff drive but I get exactly the same prob on the external dvd drive, as this works fine when plugged into another mac I am assuming it may be software or driver related?
Tried repairing disc permissions, anyone got any advice?

  • Siri not reading new messages in iOS 8

Ever since I have starting using iOS 8, Siri no longer reads my new messages to me.  In my car, with my iPhone 6 connected to my car speaker via Bluetooth, I hear a ping that I have a new text message (or to be more accurate, a new iMessage).  So I ask Siri to read me my new messages, which always used to work.  But now, Siri claims that I have no new messages.  If I look at the phone I can see the new message.
If I know that the message came from Person X, and I ask Siri to read me my last message from Person X, it will instead read the second-to-last message from Person X until I go to my iPhone and launch the Messages app and read the message.  Then, if I ask Siri to read the last message from Person X, Siri will correctly read the last message.
I see various people posting similar problems for the last two years, but I haven't seen any solutions.  And yes, I have restarted my iPhone and that doesn't fit.  In fact, I kept my fingers crossed that this would be fixed in iOS 8.1, and then 8.1.1, but no luck.
    -Jeff

Well, this kinda solves my problem. I seem to recall that it would still suggest words (but only one at a time), whereas now it doesn't. It does offer corrections if I fat-finger something. Us users are never satisfied! ;-)
