Macbook powers on by itself when i connect the power cable

Hi,
Since Leopard, my Macbook has decided to no longer rely on the stupid user pushing the power button. It simply switches itself on every time i connect the power cable
You know: I often come home in the evenings with a drained battery, connect the cable and charge the battery overnight. I don't want to switch the baby on. But my Macbook thinks otherwise.
First i thought it maybe have somthing to do with the hardware-energy settings (power on after power loss), but the option is disabled.
So what? Has the Macbook become more intelligent or am I just to stupid to find the right option? (Care what you say..!)
Cheers,
Fox

Hello World!
No one here who can help me?
I simply want to use the Power Button for what it is for. I don't want my Macbook to switch itself on everytime i plug in the power cable.
This behaviour is only since 10.5 install (I did archive&install)

Take it back to the Apple Store for repair since it's still in warranty.

  • MPB Powers OFF when I connect the power cord

Just got a new MBP this weekend. When I connect the power cord after the battery gets low, the computer instantly shuts off. No warning, just shuts off. The battery can be at any charge level, and this will happen. Pull the power cord off, no problem. Put it back on, the computer is off. I have to restart, unsaved changes lost. This is my second MBP, and the first one never did this. I am about to drag it in to the Genius bar, but has this happened to anyone else? Sounds like a bad hardware issue to me. Could it be a settings issue? I've only been using it for about three days. Thanks in advance.

You might try resetting the SMC and see if this helps.

I own an old PowerBook G3 that turns o only on battery. And, even so, always resets time and date. Whenever I connect the power cable, it turns off. In addition, I a interested in refurbishing my old G3. And, a lesser old G4 LCD that shows a yellow vertical hair-width stripe.
    Thank you in advance.

What model PowerBook? The internal PRAM battery has discharged and is not recharging. You'll need to replace the battery. This site has instructions. http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/PowerBook
The PRAM battery is not easy to change on some PB G3 models. I changed the battery on a Wallstreet model. Had to totally disassemble to do it. Bought the replacement battery on eBay.

  • My Macbook Pro goes to sleep when I connect the magsafe adapter.

Hi, if I am using my MBP on battery and then 1) close the lid to put it to sleep, 2) later connect it to the magsafe and then 3) try to wake it up (in that order only, and more frequently if in the login screen), it powers up for a second then goes back to sleep. Not always but frequently. It takes about 10 seconds to power down, and then once asleep, it takes about 5 seconds before it will wake up again. After that, everything is fine. My only workaround seems to be to wake the computer first, wait about 10 seconds and then connect the magsafe. Has anyone else experienced this? I never noticed this before I upgraded to Mountain Lion.

This very well could be the same issue as below.  Please read the full copy of the post and see if the behavior matches.  What's happeing is that if you have this update installed, whenever you plug or unplug the power adapter to the laptop, the system will wake from sleep and then go back to sleep if the lid is closed.  What you're doing is plugging it in which causes it to wake up, then when you finally open it a couple of seconds later, you're catching it as it's going back to sleep and once it does that it then sees that you opened it and wakes back up again.  Either plug it in and wait for that wake/sleep and then open it or open it and then plug it in.
Post about the problem in detail:
This is a problem with all 2012 MacBook Pros that have applied the update DL1609 via Software Update.  This update is called MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0.  The only fix that exists for this is to reinstall OSX and just not install this update when it shows in the available updates list in the AppStore.  Just hide it until this issue is fixed by Apple.
If your OSX 10.8.2 version is anything after version (12C60) then you will have this problem.  The problem is as follows.  With the system asleep with clamshell closed, plugging and unplugging the power cable causes the system to wake up and go back to sleep.  Additionally, leaving the system plugged into power for over 4 hours will cause the system to go into hibernation, but only when plugged in.  If it's not connected to AC power while sleeping for that long, it will not enter hibernation.
Please call Apple and complain about this problem.  I have been working with them for over a month and a half trying to get them to fix this and it's a major hand-holding process because they didn't initially understand the issue.  Add to that the fact that they insisted that this problem doesn't exist and it just made it that much harder to get them to see the issue.
You need to call them AppleCare and let them know you're having this problem.  Along with that, email the rep you're working with links to every Apple Support Forum thread you can find on this.  Trust me, there are several with this same exact problem.

  • My macbook will not charge and turns off completely when I remove the power cable.  can anyone help?

The battery is sitting at 75% and has not moved even though it is plugged into the mains.  It will not switch on unless connected to the power cable and turns straight off when disconnected.  The wee green light is on the cable is on when plugged in so its not the power cable.  Could it be my battery?  the I only bought this two years ago.
    Please help.

  • HT3964 My Macbook air charges intermittently. At times when I connect the power adapter it shows that power is coming in but  says "not charging" and the led light on the power adapter does not light. At other times it charges normally. Any ideas?

    Hey guys,
I am having problems with charging my mac Air.  Sometimes it charges perfectly but then at times much as it shows that it's getting the power from the charger, it says "not charging" and the led light on the charger does not light up. Any help?
    Rgds,
    Kido-Vj

That can happen when you are Taxing the system. No Apple supplied AC adapter supplies enough power to both power the system and charge the battery at the same time when the system is under Heavy Load, when you are Taxing the system heavily. At those times it will draw power from both the AC adapter and the battery at the same time. So if it is drawing power from both it can't charge the battery while it is drawing power from it.

  • IPad will not connect to pc or iTunes, I get a double ping when I connect the USB cable

My iPad will not connect to either my PC or iTunes. When I plug in the USB cable I get a double ping from the PC. Any Suggestions?

I have never heard of this "double ping" issue in the before. You say it is coming from the PC so maybe it is a USB problem on the computer. I assume that you have tried another USB port on the PC. You could also try another computer that is running iTunes and see what happens.
I am not a PC user, so the only other thing I can offer is a link to the Apple support site for an iOS device not being recognized in iTunes for Windows.

  • TS3622 It even happens when you connect BOTH power cables on a Mac Pro 3,1

I  have a Mac 3,1 and have recently fitted the ATI Radon HD 5870 replacing the old graphics card. (It is one week old)
One monitor is the NEC Spectraview 2690 which is connected to the mini-Display port and the other monitor is the Apple 23" connected to the DVI port.
After I have shut down the Mac Pro at night and restart it the following morning,  two (BOTH) blank screens appears on booting up.
I then have to press and hold the power button to shut down the system and then reboot the sytem and then the screens come up properly for me to log in.
I can then use the computer as normal.

There is no BIOS in OS X. There is only the EFI stored in ROM that is not user modifiable. OS X is probably checking Bay 0 for the boot drive since that is where it should be. It won't check the Tempo drive since it is treated like an external drive. I suggest you open Startup Disk preferences to see if the Tempo device is selected as the boot device. If it isn't, then select it. That will probably shave off a few seconds in the startup time.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected

My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected. If get the blue screen and then can use the macbook but nothing is displayed on the TV. If i go into display I can see that there are two screens but nothing displayed on the TV. If i take the power cable out at this point the TV shows the second desktop as expected. If i then reconnect the cable, the screen flickers, as though it is being affected by the power cable, and the screen goes blank on the TV. Only if i remove the DVI cable do i get the blue screen again. If i remove the power cable and reconnect it will do it every single time, so i cannot see it being a TV issue or a minor glitch.
I have had this working previously but at the minute it seems to not be playing ball....any thoughts
