Macbook Pro '08 - noisy headphone out

Hello - As soon as I got my new pro I have noticed that it makes weird noises through the headphones when listening in iTunes etc. The noises only happen when the song starts playing and for a second afterwards. The noises are like a constant low level static, weird high pitch sounds and glitchy noises. Pretty annoying really. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and how they're dealing with it.

I recorded the weird noises: http://www.bluesalamand.de/noise.mov
What you hear: The System "Pop"-Sound from Mac OS X, played periodically.
Second 0 till 5: audio out in "sleep mode", silence
Second 5: First "Pop" played, audio awakes with dull "plopp"
Then, the "Pop"-Sound is played periodically, the werid noise changes everytime, randomly.
30 seconds after the last "Pop", the audio out falls to sleep with a dull "plopp" again, then silence.
This problem is independent of: battery / cable power WiFi / Bluetooth on / off, energy saving mode on / of, system reset. The weird noises are also independent of the current audio volume.
I now already got two MacBook Pros with the same problem! Why don't the fix it? I think it's a hardware problem, I don't wat for a software update

When I am listening to the radio (streaming through itunes) my macbook pro will log me out, quitting all the applications I have running (often firefox, word processing, itunes, etc). Why?
It's very frustrating and I don't understand why it happens. It might happen other times, but I notice it the most when I'm streaming the radio through itunes, though I think it's also happened when I'm streaming music or shows from NPR, so I don't actually know if it's an itunes thing, or an internet thing? Or just my computer being stupid?  But how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

My best guess at this point is a problem wwith 10.5.8
It seems clear to me that sometimes, seemingly randomly, software will access the video card (flash player, quicktime, Safari's HTML5 video player, etc) and it will cause a freeze and then log out.
However - it could just be video card + processor under load.
This didnt happen before 10.5.8 and I'm thinking it's not the new 27" display causing the issue.
I'm going to attempt to find time to revert back to 10.5.0 and then combo update back up to 10.5.7 which may be difficult as our IT is remote and we don't have access to Snow Leopard discs.
I may just have to bring my own in.

  • My Macbook Pro became noisy and slow after I reboot it. Any Help pls

I just bought my Macbook Pro last month here in Japan, and it is working well until one time I cannot login my username and password because whenever I type my username, an Arabic-like characters appear. Then using my iphone, I searched on the internet and luckily found answer to my problem. Macbook Pro users shared their same problems, and they mentioned about "rebooting" (switch on and hold Shift). then I tried it and resolved my problem.. But when I was about to use my mac, i noticed a noisy fan and my mac became slow.(which I never experiece before eventhough I have poor connection, it still run fast). And what I hate most is it always `reload/ buffer`.. A rainbow color ball always appear and it will reamin reloading for a long time.. one time, I leave it relaoding and try to cook dinner, expecting to fnish relaoding after i cook, but it didnt change, it is still relaoding (with rainbow color ball) .. What can I do with this problem? what im doing with my Mac is purely internet, movies (no downlad, just watching free movies, but not always), and manage my own site.. I hope and expect a solution from you guy.. thank you...

Try the usual things. Reset the SMC. Reset the PRAM. Repair Disk Permissions. Clear all the caches. Check the Activity Monitor to see if any processes are hogging cpu/ram. Make sure everything is up to date. Check the temperatures with a program like Temperature Monitor or iStatPro to make sure its not overheating, and to find out what speed the fans are running at.

  • RE: Macbook Pro mid 2010 headphone socket, volume control fault.

RE: Macbook Pro, volume control faulty (shaded out) when i unplug my headphones the headphone socket doesn't swithch to the internal speakers after searching around for answers i found faulty i  found a the faulty headphone socket is common on MBP.
After fidling around with preferences having no luck i finally tried the old paper clip test but i used an iphone sim card tool just to be on the safe side and would you believe it its a faulty sensor.
i am very unhappy with Apple who are obviously are aware of this problem and the hundreds of posts out there grapically recording it i have several macs this one,s standard warranty ran a few months ago so i will have to pay out even more for this is this a taste of things to come as Apple gets bigger and bigger leaving quality behind, that would be a shame.

I don't believe so since it crashed again while doing a time machine back up while in safe boot and there is no mention of vmware in the crash report for that. Also it definitely has nothing to do with windows either since I'm able to boot directly into the windows partition with no problems.

  • Macbook pro 13' 2010 line out problem

    My problem is:
When i use the line out on my Macbook pro (13' 2010), before the sound or music start i hear a "click"  (or pop, i don't know how to call) noise on the headphones (or a connected speaker).
If i stop playing, and after a while (about 20 seconds), i hear a "click" again.
I think this is because it turns on and off the line out port on the macbook. (turn on the line out when i start to play, and turn off when i stop to play).
This is normal? This is irritating me, because it's annoying.
Is there a fix for this?
    Please help me.

I just tried it on my wifes 13" and  it does have a slight pop, very low in level at the beginning of a track, and while in pause. I did a pram reset and it seemed to reduce hoe often it happens, especially in pause mode and it now seems to not do it on every song. It was VERY low in level and has not popped at all in pause while I typed this response. It might be a part of Apple cheaping out the audio section on the 13', I have a 15" and never had this issue. She never mentioned it to me, but she usuallly listens to her music very quiet.  Still no pops, where as before the pram reset there was one about every 1/2 minute or so in pause mode. You might want to give it a try and see if it helps. But it still does it at the start of the first song but I did not here it going into the next.  Pram reset: disconnect all peripherals, power offthe MBP,power it back on and hold the following keys. Option, comand,P,R(no commas) Press these keys before the start chime and continue to hold them till you hear the start chime 3 times then release. Maybe it will help.  All the best

  • Macbook Pro 2011 DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected

My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) DVI HDMI out does not work with TV when the power cable is connected. If get the blue screen and then can use the macbook but nothing is displayed on the TV. If i go into display I can see that there are two screens but nothing displayed on the TV. If i take the power cable out at this point the TV shows the second desktop as expected. If i then reconnect the cable, the screen flickers, as though it is being affected by the power cable, and the screen goes blank on the TV. Only if i remove the DVI cable do i get the blue screen again. If i remove the power cable and reconnect it will do it every single time, so i cannot see it being a TV issue or a minor glitch.
I have had this working previously but at the minute it seems to not be playing ball....any thoughts
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro DVI and Video Out woes..

Hey, this seems to be a known issue although specifics are difficult to nail down. I've had my macbook pro since shortly after they were launched and been using the DVI - S-video adapter since day one, and it's been outputting to all TVs with no problem.
I recently got a nice overtime payment from work and decided to treat myself to an external 24" display, was very pleased with it when it arrived. Plugged it in downstairs, and ran it for a few hours, putting it through its paces - worked great.
Decided to move the whole arrangement upstairs and 'no input signal' said the monitor, the MBP just didn't detect anything in the displays. The built-in display did it's blue screen when the cable was plugged in, so it's definitely detecting something.. The monitor is connected via a DVI-D single-link cable. I've confirmed that both cable and monitor work using a different computer.
So after this happened, I decided to try plugging it into a TV again to see if the S-video out worked and although Displays picks up the TV and everything is as usual, nothing is shown on the screen.
Any suggestions would be very welcome before I get my hammer and remodel my computer!
Anyone else suffering from something similar to this?
    The monitor is a 24" Yuraku YV24WBH1.
    Cheers.
PS I've tried booting from the install CD, two versions of XP bootcamp (one with standard drivers, one with Catalyst, and the computer's old HD with 10.4 installed on it - no joy with any)

    Another update, I did some research and it seems that ATI are cagily admitting to the fact that there might be a problem with the X-series;
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questio nID=26586
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questio nID=21266
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questio nID=25682
You'll notice that ATI tell you to contact the manufacturer of your computer if the graphics are integrated into the motherboard. Like with Apple. Much joy to be had there.
I phoned their technical support and got talking with a specialist who was mystified and suggested 'turning off the airport'.
    Also, it seems that Apple rather significantly "underclocked" the GPUs in their macbook pros;
    http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/04/19/applemacbook_pro_gpuspeed/
    http://www.maconintel.com/news.php?article=178
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=306024
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=194647
Could be running the GPUs are running on a lower voltage and maybe they're not working right, or the signal isn't stable enough to pick up an EDID? It seems to be quite a mystery. Perhaps the osx86 community will have some tricks up their sleaves for twisting the x1600's arm. Still doesn't explain why the monitor worked that one time.
This probably isn't an issue for anyone who doesn't want to plug their laptop into an external display, but I suspect it's a widespread problem just waiting to rear its ugly head, especially as HDTVs become more ubiquitous.
Anyone else struggling with external display devices, or with solutions, I'd appreciate your input.

  • HT201361 Whenever I take a screenshot on my Macbook Pro, it always comes out bigger than the area I selected. How do I fix this??

I just got a Macbook Pro for Christmas, replacing my old 2008 one. On my old one, I was able to screen grab (shift+command+F4) specific area sizes (like 500x500 area) and the picture it would export would also be 500x500. On this new Mac, the areas I screen grab are exported larger than they are when I take them. For instance, I'd take a screen grab of a 500x500 picture I drew, upload it to an image sharing website, and it would appear nearly double that size.
I've tried altering my display to see if that helps, but they always are bigger than what I grab.
    Any help would be great.

To anyone who may have this problem, I figured it out. Retina display makes it bigger than it actually is. To fix this, after each screenshot, open up the image in preview. There will be a little toolbox option, and within that a box with arrows in it. Set the dimensions to 50 rather than 100 and it should be good to go.

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" noisy fan.

Hi everyone, about a month ago I purchased my MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011. Some info about it:
    OS X 10.9.4
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB Ram
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Anyway, from when i bought it, there was no issue with the fan, but recently, from about a weak, the fan is a bit noisy even when I am not running any programs. I vacuumed the vents in hope of removing dust, didn't work. I also did a reset which I was advised to do. Turn of the mac, hold SHIFT + CTRL + OPTION + POWER BUTTON at the same time and release at the same thing (while the laptop is charging) then turn it on. It also did not help. Any other recommendations will be appreciated.. Thank you.

Not possible. The screen, glass cover and aluminum housing are sealed, Glued together. Not that you or someone else couldn't take those parts apart, that is possible, but finding just the aluminum housing would be nearly impossible as Apple doesn't even sell that housing as a part.

  • Macbook Pro randomly logs me out (10.6.8)

    Hello,
I have recently been having a problem with my laptop: while I am using it, it randomly logs me out. This means it quits all applications, which is getting pretty irritating as I am working on a big project!
    Here are the specs:
    MacBook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    6 GB memory
320 GB capacity HD (with 30 GB of that free)
4 years old (bought in January 2008)
Please note: the system preferences are *NOT* set to log me out after any period of inactivity — and anyway, it happens while I am working, typing, etc.
I thought it perhaps could be due to the RAM upgrade I did, but I did that about 6 months ago, and this problem just started happening over the last month or so. Now it is happening several times a day.
Any ideas what the problem could be??
    Thanks!!

There could be a bug in the software.
do you still have your original install disc that came with your Mac?
If you do power off the Mac put the disc in the slot power up the Mac push in the disc and hold down the "C" key as soon as you hear the chime. Keep holding the C key till the gear stops spinning.
This will reinstall the OS leaving all your data in place. You will then have to do a software update.
Some of your preferenes migh have to be reset. If the problem still persist, I would look at third party software.

  • Macbook pro wifi symbol greyed out and will not recognize networks

My Macbook Pro has had an issue since this past fall of having its wifi symbol greyed out with an "X". It also does not recognize wifi networks as in simply no networks show up. Talked to Apple last week and they said to upgrade to Yosemite, but I am still having this issue. Help?

Have you used DVDs that have different region codes?  It may be that your DVD drive is locked for a region code different from what Netflix is programmed for.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook pro nvidia 9600 video out limited on levels of black

I have compared the picture quality of my 2008 macbook pro (nvidia 9600gt) with my windows desktop (nvidia 8600GT) using the same monitor (Cinema HD 30"), notebook being connected via mini display port to dual-link DVI adapter, desktop via standard DVI cable.
Macbook picture comes inferior in display of dark shades, to the point that I have several photos taken with Nikon DSLRs I use, where in Windows I am able to see large parts of the image (shade area), and in Macbook they are completely blacked out.
I must say that monitor is properly calibrated for both computers using x-rite colormunki spectrophotometer.
The online test at www.lagom.nl (with pages displaying various black levels nearing to complete 255 black) - also justifies my observation that macbook video just cuts the dark grey shades and makes them black, whereas windows video displays more of the dynamic range.
I have also looked at my iMac computer (2.8 Ghz, 24", with ati video card) and it seems to display a similar limitation.
That presents a serious handicap to photographers like me using macbook pro computers.
Does anyone have a clue to the issue? Can anyone test their picture using that page at lagom,
and report here as to what level of dark grey is still decernible of their monitor? (page is http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php or use any other similar test)

I must make an important clarification - I used Adobe Lightroom 2.3 for viewing the photos, and observed the black levels cutting effect there. same photo opened in Photoshop cs4 displays perfectly visible levels of dark grey. So I guess this is not a hardware issue related to nvidia chip.
Apple preview (available by pressing space bar on a selected photo-file) does show black level clipping just like Lightroom.

  • Macbook pro keeps logging me out after using migration assistant

    Hello All,
I have a Macbook pro (bought it two years ago). It used to shut down automatically. Took it to Apple after backing up using time machine. They installed a fresh OS on it and took everything else out. I made a dummy account and no more shut downs happend so I migrated my old account over using MA. Now all my accounts are there but as soon as I log in, it logs me out !!! no error message.

How were you able to run a disk repair? Did you do that from an install disc?
Can you boot into "single-user" mode? If so there are some commands you can run that will allow you to look into logs files, where you might find the reason for your problem.

  • MacBook Pro/Thunderbolt Monitor blanking out

I have a MacBook Pro with 2 Thunderbolt monitors.  My system is connected up like this:
MacBook Pro (running in clamshell mode) -------> Thunderbolt Port on MBP -------> Thunderbolt Display ------> Built in Display Thunderbolt Cable ------>Thunderbolt Display 2.
I also have a Thunderbolt disk drive attached to a thunderbolt port on the back of display 2.
I have a couple of problems every now and then.  At times that second display blanks out for a second.  I have noticed, it is most likely to happen when I put some IO on that thunderbolt disk drive.  It just seems to me like the bandwidth of thunderbolt should be able to handle this.
Secondly.  Sometimes when I boot up, the system considers that second display as the first which screws up my screens.  I usually have to reboot to get it to work right.  I notice that if I boot up with my MBP open, the system always considers the 2nd monitor in the chain the first display. Seems like it would always default to the first monitor.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated,
    Rob

The Thunderbolt drive should be the first device on the chain, with the Displays being the last devices on the chain.
That should solve both of the problems.
If not, call back or post in the Apple Thunderbolt Display forum.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
