    Good Morning,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard. I shut it off took out the battery, reinstalled the battery. Then I put in the Snow Leopard CD and booted up to disk utility and The Snow Leopard partion would not show up?? I do see the microsoft partion.
I also rebooted holding down the shift key and still no Snow Leopard
Could you please tell me what I can do, what keys do I press on restart any advice to get Snow leopard back.
    thank you.

Have you restarted holding down the Opt key?  That procedure should give you a gray screen with all of the partitions that exist.  Then select the SL partition for boot.  Also go to System Preferences and Startup Disk, unlock the lock and select the SL partition as the default boot partition, then relock.

hardware test using an external optical device (iMac) on macbook pro 9 years old via firewire. What to do? and how to do it?
I thiunk the graphic card is defective and need to run hwt

    You don't.
Need a internal optical drive and the Hardware Test on disks is old and outdated anyway.
Your machine has lasted a long time, congratulations, they usually only last about 4-5 years.
They get clogged up with dust and overheat, kills the video card, there is nothing you can do as it's hardware damage over time.

  • I have a macbook pro a year old  that has started freezing a lot lately, why is this happening because it has been work great until now, what is the problem?

I have a Macbook Pro, a year old and it's started freezing all the time when I go to open pages, The small coloured wheel comes up a lot of the time, I have Mac Keeper and run this program but it doesn't sem to help. Do I have a problem with the hard drive or something else? This is very annoying.

Mac Keeper is a malware !!!!  Read here and unistall this crap >>>
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3027
MacKeeper can be regarded as highly invasive malware* that can de-stablize your operating system. It is unethically marketed by a company called Zeobit and a rip-off.
Further opinion on it and how to uninstall MacKeeper malware can be read here:

Where can I buy a battery for a MacBook Pro 17", year 2010?
Already saw how to replace on youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42qcvlftmcM
Now I'm looking for a seller on e-bay. Anyone has bought recently and can refer?
All tips are welcome and thanks in advance!

Personally, I wouldn't purchase a battery from eBay for an expensive MBP.  What you get is what you paid for (buyer beware).
Call around to your local AS or AASP for prices.  Do a Google or Bing search.

  • I bought MacBook Pro a year back I want to know what were the original specs of hardware of this product as I believe that I have been cheated s

Hi, I bought this MacBook Pro a year back , as I am not a professional and for me Apple is a brand that one can buy any product while eyes shut. I told the sales man at the iStore is DHA, Sector H, Lahore/Pakistan, that I am new to apple and reason to buy this product is that I am going to learn 3dMax and Autocad and photoshop on this machine. He reccomended me this machine that I am using right now. After a year when I found a graphic instructor he checked the hardware and he said that the processor is very old and he was surprised. Herer are the specs :
    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro7,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.4 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP71.0039.B0B
      SMC Version (system):          1.62f6
      Serial Number (system):          WQ03******ATM
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
He said that knowing that I am going to use this machine for graphics, they have actually fooled you, Kindly tell me what are the original specs of this machine S# . I believe that iStores are licensed , kindly help me out, I have given a complete price , but it seems i just paid huge price of Apple sign and the body of this machine. Please help me and tell me how to take actions . I will really appreciate.
    Thanks

Thanks Kappy, could you please how to contact Apple , through email , I will appreciate if you could kindly guide me where to submit my question as I could not find the email contact. will appreciate your reply. Thank you once again.
Apple does not provide support via email or publish email contact addresses. You will have to use the other channels that are offered.
What question(s) do you still want to ask? At worst, you bought a MacBook Pro that had just been discontinued after ten months in production. A week or two before you bought it, it was still the latest 13" model. If you bought it at the very beginning of last February, it was still the latest model then, and the seller didn't know any more than you did about the new models that would be released later that month. While it is a common practice among Mac resellers to offer a small discount on discontinued models after new models are released, resellers are under no obligation to do so, and in any case it is always up to the buyer to determine exactly what he or she is buying and to research whether or not it's fit for his or her purpose. Apparently you didn't do either. If you have any grounds at all for a dispute (which is doubtful in my view), the dispute is with the local reseller, not with Apple, who does not control the pricing or practices of resellers.
You are probably finding, or have already found, that a 13-inch MBP with only integrated graphics processing is inadequate for the uses you hope to make of it. You will need a more powerful machine with a discrete graphics processor and a larger screen for the work you have in mind. Even the current 13" MBPs wouldn't suffice for that — a 15" MBP is the minimum that would do. Sell your machine to someone whose work will be less demanding, and get a new MBP that will meet your needs.

  • My macbook pro is still under warranty.  I have just put it into Mac 1 to be repaired because I had the folder with the dreaded Question mark on it....new hard drive.  I was told that if I wanted my data retrieved, I would have to pay $445 p/h. Ahh!!!

My newest Mac just did the same "folder of death" dance. It's too late for you now, but you might consider a passport backup drive. You can get 2&3 T-bytes now fairly reasonably priced. A given with computers is they will crash, just a question of how bad and when, so you can be prepared for the next time.

  • Bought MacBook Pro a year ago and it came with Quicktime Player.  Bought Quicktime Player Pro, how do I download it??

You don't download QuickTime Pro directly; you download QuickTime 7 and apply the code you bought to it.

  • HT1270 Hi, I have bought macbook pro a year back and it has 4 GB RAM and its mid 2012 model can u tell me whether if i give the macbook for upgradation of memory will they do it and what would be the cost

Hi, I have bought macbook pro a year back and it has 4 GB RAM and its mid 2012 model can u tell me whether if i give the macbook for upgradation of memory will they do it and what would be the cost.

You need to take your MacBook Pro to your Apple store genius bar and check that they will do the upgrade for you...price for 4 GB memory used to be $200 but you will have to check with them for the current cost.
You can also check with OWC, http://www.macsales.com and see what their cost is and decide if you want to do it yourself.  Cost will be about half of that at the Apple store.

Wait for advice on repairing a damaged filesystem.  Forceshutdown stops processs in mid-stream and leaves some parts not-valid.
Do not proceed until you get that avice.

  • Slow Macbook pro, ~1 year old;  Really HUGE Page Ins and Page Outs size, think 400 GB In vs 100 GB Out

Hi everyone, I have a macbook pro and it's so slow.  After scouring the internet a lot, and CCleaning my computer 359802 times and using Onyx, I finally realized why it's so s low.....my Page Ins and Page Outs are so big.  I have attached a screenshot that illustrates this.
I am not sure how my computer ballooned to this size, but it makes sense why it's like a turtle and is slower than my 4 year old Sony.
Can someone help me?? I am not sure what processes to get rid of and I feel like Google Chrome is taking up huge amounts of my Ram.  I mean yeah I open Google Chrome and run like 8 tabs and have Word and iTunes open, but my 4 years old Sony could run faster than this and I used to open like 12+ tabs on Chrome while running Word, Excel, Powerpoint, iTunes, and VLC on my Sony.  Which was nowhere near as powerful as this computer.  Supposedly.
    My computer Specs are:
    2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
    Intel HD  Graphics 384 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
I would really appreciate any advice to get this down to normal.....since I hear most ppl have page ins and page outs in the MB or even KB.  Right now I'm running Google Chrome, Word, Ppowerpoint, iTunes, and Adobe PDF Reader.  I don't think this should be too unreasonable of work load.
    Thank you

The problem is not that your page ins are big, as that value resets when you reboot the system. However, your page outs are are almost 25% of your page ins, which means you can use more memory for the applications you run.  A page out is done when memory is full, and the system needs to add something else to memory, so it writes some memory to the hard drive to make room.  The guideline to add more memory is 10% to 15% page outs greater than page in's, and yours are more than that.
Your MacBook Pro can handle up to 16GB of memory. You might want to consider upgrading to 8GB, which would double what you have today. OWC and Crucial are two sources for quality memory. $42 for 8GB from Crucial, and you can usually find a % off coupon on retailmenot.com.
