MacBook Pro 10.4.9 Mail Search option not working!
When a key word or email address is entered into the search pain of mac mail, it produces 0 results every time, even when I have an email open containing the exact key word or email address.
Another thread suggested running a downloadable Etresoft report to help folks in the Apple Community answer questions. I am a new Mac user, so I really need baby steps to fix this issue. Being able to search my email is critical to my work performance and the small company I work for.

The speaker logo is not highlighted (grey not Black) and when in sound options "output" pane only displays the digital out for 'optical' - ie, the internal speakers dont register (headphone socket works)
Any ideas?1. If red light is visible in the headphone port, plug the headphone into and out of the port 5 or 6 times
to flip the microswitch inside the port. Hopefully that will make the mode revert back to analog from digital.

They keyboard lights up when it is booting up but when i try to sign in, nothing types or the mouse wont work. i am fine if the mouse doesnt work because i can use an external one but can someone please help me?!
The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians diagnose the problem.

You need to upgrade your OS. It's your responsibility to verify if your equipment meets the system requirements, not the Apple Store.

i plugged in my ipod and now i get the error message: Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled" - i have a MAcBook pro and now my USB ports do not work - can anyone help me ???
Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?

KatSome might suggest resetting the SMC, but I don't really think that will solve the problem. You can try, though.
I would suggest, since you're still under warranty, taking your machine to your local Apple Store/AASP and letting them fix the problem. It could be any sort of hardware problem. Only the Apple techs have the tools to properly diagnose and repair the machine.

MacBook Pro Boot Camp Sound Audio Drivers Do Not Work with Miscrosoft Vista
I installed Vista via Boot Camp on my new 15" i7 MacBook Pro. After full MS Vista patching and Apple Boot Camp driver installation, the sound/audio does not work.
After some searching on the net, I've noticed that this is perhaps a widespread problem. Are there any solutions or an indication of when this will be fixed?When you mean no sound, do you get the volume slider but nothing comes out or do you not get the volume slider at all?
Go to control panel, sound (you might need to switch to classic view to see the one im on about), then the "sounds" tab, there should be audio clips that you should be able to play, if the laptop has picked up the sound controller in it.
If you cant play these (greyed out) then the driver isnt installed properly.
There should be a update option in the boot camp program that is installed in your vista partition, run that, and if it fails you can try what is below.
Try going into device manager, uninstall/remove the drivers under the heading "sound, game and audio controllers" reboot the machine and it should install them back in again.
If it doesnt and asks for a disc, then they'll be on your max os x disc, but not sure you can install drivers individually this way. might have to reinstall the boot camp drivers from scratch.
Ive had this proplem on PC's (not macs) with drivers from manufacturer of the machines not working after windows updates. Fixed by using drivers from the audio controller manufacturer. But dont think its the same issue you are having. -

I have a need to run a program when mail is sent to a certain mailbox, so I created the mailbox and went into the Mail Delivery Options screen, checked the "Enable the following programs" checkbox, and put the full path to the command in the box. When I tried to send a message to the specified address, it bounced.
Thinking that there was something wrong with the program itself, I tried to simplify the test by setting the program to "/bin/false", but that still bounced.

BillAs it turns out, setting this up was simple, one I figured out the "imsimta program" thing.
Here's what I did to get this working.
1. Created the following shell script named "deliver-listserv" in the /var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/site-programs directory:

For each of the mailboxes created in #5, set the mail delivery options to run the message using the listserv method defined in #3 by checking the "Enable the following programs" checkbox and specifying "listserv" in the command text box. This sets the following attributes in the mailbox's LDAP entry:

mailProgramDeliveryInfo: listservThat's all it takes. Since I specified the "-g" option to supply the username when the program is called, the string "test+listserv" is passed to my script, where I simply strip off the "+listserv" and then invoke the lsv_amin program to handle the delivery. Macbook pro via HDMI to panasonic ae2000 projector not working.

Last night I tried to connect my mid 2009 macbook pro to my panasonic ae2000 projector.
I have a mini dvi to hdmi adapter lead.
The macbook pro display would flicker when hdmi plugged in but the projector would not come up as a display device. (in display preferences) So I could not output signal too it.
I have used used same lead to connect to a philips tv without problem via hdmi.
Any ideas ?

I think its aprox 8 meters. (10 M max)
Its the same cable I use from my normal panasonic dvd/bluray player to the projector.
Except of course I unplugged player to plug in mac, (have used cable again without problem.)
Interesting thought though.
Not sure I have a 2 meter cable (projector on ceiling) to see if I can plug that from mac to projector. -
My MacBook Pro will connect to Wifi at one location (this is a secure location) but will not allow access to the internet. I will put in the password but will not display page. Other wifi capable devises do not have this issue but my Mac and my Iphone 4S will not work. I have tried restarting the router. All other wifi locations I have been to have not had this issue. Any suggestions? I am realtively new to Apple products (less than a year) so any advise is greatly appreciated.
The other devices that are working got on with the same password. It says it is connected. Just nothing works on the internet.

Mail search feature not working
Not a good day today but to top it off, my Mail search feature doesn't seem to be working. In the past I've praised OSX Mail search features and enjoyed the instant results all whilst bashing the inop feature Outlook and Notes try to utilize. I'm afraid to say the OSX Lion Mail search feature is completely non-functional. As I was searching for this issue through the support topics, I noticed this very topic appear then quickly disappear. I couldn't duplicate the search again for anything. Hmm.
Also, what's the dealy with opening a PDF in Mail with Preview and your last 5 PDF's open as well? Uncool. And I want Safari to open with my Home page, not the last page I visited.
At least the Spotlight will still identify the messages I'm wrangling for.

In the new Mac LION MAIL app, it's not apparent that you can search for any part of any email address the way you could before with any previous OS, for when you type partial email text in the MAIL search field, it simply gives you a drop-down list of wrong or limited suggestions and none of the suggestions are email addresses, but people's names. I don't want to search by name, I want to search by email address. (Maybe I'm the only one who does this.) If two different email addresses have the same associated name (which I have), it chooses the wrong one and searches for the wrong email address!
But there is a way:
1) Select the mailbox you want to search (if any).
2) Type in the search field:

4) Notice that after you press "return" or "enter", your "to:" (or "from:") becomes a pull-down-menu button and the MAIL's silly choices go away. If you click the button, you get this:

3) Strangely, "to:" or "from:" MUST be ALL lowercase for this change to take place. (It will still work if "To:" and "FroM:" are all or part uppercase, but the change to a menu button will not occur.)
4) On the menu bar below the toolbar, you will see the places to search ("All…Selected mailbox…Inbox…Drafts…Sent…Flagged")

I just got my macbook pro with retina display and updated it to mountain lion. When I double tap text, it doesn't highlight it like it used to on my old macbook.
I tried to so the trackpad update 1.0 but it says it is not supported on your system. What does that mean?? And even holding and highlighting doesn't work. is anyone else having the same problem?
