Macbook Pro 10.6.8 constantly drops my wi-fi network and joins Linksys which works but very slow
My Macbook Pro constantly drops my network and joins Linksys. It connects to the Internet but is painfully slow. Choosing my network again works for a while than goes back to Linksys. Any sugestions?
Try going to system preferences/network/advanced, airport tab, in the prefered networks pane highlight and drag your net work to the top of the list. See if it then chooses your network as prefered, hope this helps.

Problem description:
(MacBook Pro 15” late 2008, OSX Yosemite 10.10.2 installed, no pending updates) computer is running very slow - takes 2-3 minutes to open apps such as Pages, even when no other apps are open. I bought a physical album and loaded to my mac but it won't sync to my iPhone.I have plugged my iPhone into my mac and when i try yo drag the music over to sync to my phone it says that it has synced but ill look at my music library on my phone and the music won't be there. am i doing something wrong?

My 15in. Macbook Pro's monitor will not turn on anymore. when i press the power button to turn it on, the hard drive and everything but the monitor turns on. it is just a black screen and it doesnt even look like its trying to turn on . Can anyone tell me how to reset or reboot my laptop? try a reset first. Shut down, unplug for at least 15 seconds then plug and wait 5 seconds and restart.

Macbook Pro Snow Leopard; WiFi keeps dropping. Issue is Macbook is not getting an IP address from the wireless routers DHCP Server. Tried all options in the forums. Reboot, changing security, PRAM reset .. nothing. Problem keeps happening. No issues on XP laptops and Nokia phones.
Even the iPhone, iPod and iPad seems to be fine. It is just the dang gam it Macbook pro and it is driving me crazy.
All fixes tried, changing wireless mode, security, PRAM ... only thing left is to rebuild the mac which i was hoping I can avoid somehow.
Any ideas to fix this would be great!

Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined." Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer.

The only time Apple MAY, and that is BIG MAY, replace the battery is within the first year and only if Apple Deems the battery to be defective. Fat chance of that as long as the system runs off the battery for any length of time. -

Hi, yes preferences sees there is a second display it recognises what make of monitor it is etc but I just get a blank blue screen on the monitor when I change it to the hdmi setting! I have tried with mirroring on and off, rearranging the displays in the preference window and lots of different resolution settings but with no difference.
An old MacBook connects fine so the monitor and hdmi port must be okay. I'm sure we have used the cable before but it could have been with the previous MacBook Air. The current one I'm using is a mid 2011 version running lion and is (according to software update) all up to date.

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

If you've activated FileVault, only the users that were authorized to unlock the startup volume will appear in the pre-startup authentication dialog. Once the system has started up, all users will appear in the login dialog.
To authorize more users after the volume has been encrypted, select the FileVault tab in the Security & Privacy preference pane. Click the lock icon in the lower left corner and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click Enable Users...
You should only enable users whom you trust implicitly with all data on the system, not just their own data. -
My Macbook Pro will not charge. I have tried other charges and nothing. Can the MagSafe port go bad? Is that expensive to repair?
The port can fail. Internal boards can fail. Batteries can fail. All with the result that no charging occurs.
You can try Resetting the System Management Controller and you can try Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters.
But usually you will have to take the mac in to a service place for testing. It can get expensive, although occasionally it is not.

I have an iMac, an iPhone, and a MacBook Pro. My full iTunes library is on the iMac and iPhone, but only a handful of songs are on my MacBook. They are all associated with the same Apple ID. When I try to sync, I get a warning message stating that I will lose songs on my phone which aren't on the laptop. How transfer my music from my phone to the laptop?

I would do a transfer of purchases from the phone and not sync. If you sync then it will want to start over and sync music that is on the MacBook Pro. As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues. -
