Macbook pro 10.6.8 redirect
I'm on a MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with the new Java update.
I get "Invalid URL" when I try to got to facebook.com, google.com or youtube.com.
I have downloaded and used the Flashback uninstall.
I have turned off Java with my browsers - Safari, Iron, Chrome, Firefox and Seahorse, in that order.
A friend who is a linux admin helped me clear cashes, scripted terminal commands for quick flush.
I have used MacKeeper and Disk Utility to clear disks.
The problem goes away for 45-minutes to four-hours of activity.
It does not appear to be Flashback.
I use MacSnitch to look at all requests to conned-download scripted connections.
I get a very similar request that I cannot interpret - I would attach it but the Apple Support sight says it is upgrading and attach image is not allowed at this time. It says it wants to connect to o-o---preferred---sn-5uaeznek---v20-cache.c.google.com, or someting similar. Sometimes the word 'redirect' appear sin the steam jumbled name.
Runing the cache flush and restart usually bring back the ability to access the URL I want, but temporarily.
Are we looking at something new?

Does this message appear in place of the web page in your browser and is the URL in the address box the same one you entered/clicked on?

I thought I knew the names of all such tools, but that's a new one. The only one you need is the one from Apple and my second choice would be the one from F-Secure, but neither of them should be necessary as the A-V community has declared Flashback to be extinct.
I have used MacKeeper ... to clear disks.
I've read of similar, but different, issues being caused by MacKeeper, so you might want to disable it. You'll undoubtedly get stronger recommendations before the day is over, but you'll have to decide for yourself if MacKeeper is worth your time and money.

Redirects were what Flashback was all about, but I haven't seen any evidence of it's resurrection, yet. There has been other malware in the past that caused redirects, but I think all of them have either been put-to-rest or the OS XProtect system will protect you from. Rumors that cookies and ever-cookies are able to redirect, but I've not seen confirmation.
I use MacSnitch to look at all requests to conned-download scripted connections.
Would that be Little Snitch? I was unable to locate a "MacSnitch" with Google and I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "conned-download scripted connections." Perhaps that's a new feature of LS 3 (I'm still running LS 2).

Sorry, that doesn't look even vaguely familiar, so I think a screenshot would definitely help here.
Just FYI, as long as the domain ends in "google.com" you should trust that it's legit. I know of no way to fake those last two fields of a URL. Of course something like g00gle.com or goog1e.com are spoofs.

I haven't downloaded any softwares recently and these are just suddenly appearing. Here are some screen shots for various websites that I visit. Usually just random websites..
I tried re-installing chrome but it didn't do anything. I ran adware scan for mac but it also claimed to not find anything. All help appreciated! Here is everything from my check:

Hi everybody, I am in Turkey on a long assignment, I need help solving a big problem on my macbook pro os 10.9.3. The other week my wife visited some website and now we have a redirect virus of some sort, and every other time when we click on a link or anywhere on the page we are redirected to this casino web site, https://casino.7bets10.com/tr/?from=hy9yKXD43jSC-8Oxbw4femNd7ZgqdRLk-dHJpeG9uaXR l. Its the same whether on Chrome or Safari. Does anyone have a solution, thank you!
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

I downloaded Skype onto my MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite, now I'm getting redirected to Bing search engine, also, I'm getting pop up ads non stop! How do I get the pop ups removed?
Only download software from the developer's web site.
Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.
The Easy, safe, effective method:

If you are comfortable doing manual file removals use the somewhat more difficult method:

Redirect "home" Folder on macbook pro
I have a quick question concerning home folder. I have a Macbook Pro and I have the "Home" folder on an external hardrive because my SSD simply is not large enough to hold all my files. Now, I am going to a Macbook Air because I have no use for the power the Pro has and my question is, should I make the "home" folder go back to the Pro before I do an intial erase of the harddrive? Or does this not matter? I will be doing the same on the macbook air in terms of "home" folder going to external drive. My Pro and external are both backed up by Time Capsule as well. Thanks in advance.
should I make the "home" folder go back to the Pro before I do an intial erase of the harddrive?
If you want to transfer data from that machine to the new one in Setup or Migration Assistant, you should first restore it to the configuration you want. -
Here is my problem, I want to upgrade my macbook pro mid 2007 3.1 AA896ll/a to an Solid State Drive, a Crucial m4 256 gb, I want to know if the macbook will be able to handle it and how do I do the switch. also once I install the drive will I be able to boot from my Snow Leoard original cd and do a clean install. Thank you
Coming from a 5,400 RPM drive that's nearly filled up, fragmented and deoptimized to a fresh install of OS X on a SSD will of course be a improvement.
However fresh installing OS X on a new 5,400 RPM will also see a improvement, boot up in 30 seconds.
A fresh install of OS X on a new 7,200 RPM drive will also see a improvement, boot up in 25 seconds.
A fresh install of OS X on a new SSD will see the best improvement, boot up in 20 seconds on fast SATA connections.
OS X still requires time to setup and that takes about 20 seconds despite how fast your boot drive is, that's why sleep was created.
Things to consider: The higher cost of a SSD, the limiting capacity (hard drives hold way more up), the SATA I speed limitations (slows up on large file transfers), the difficulty to scrub the SSD of unwanted data (like you can a hard drive), and it's limited write capability. Also the smaller SSD's are faster than the larger ones.
SSD's are shock proof, which is their slight advantage over hard drives.
I see a 120GB SSD in a SATA I machine as being a waste, it's too small of a storage space (500GB+ is ideal), the SATA I connection is slow and other factors that make a 7,200 RPM drive a better option in that machine.
One can get a 750 GB 7,200 RPM hard drive for about the same price and still maximize their boot time in the process, also being able to scrub their drive of unwanted data easily.
SSD's can't be scrubbed, one has to fill 50% of the remaining space with many, very small files to overwrite the free space, then do another 50% again to defeat the Trim/wear leveling as SSD's write to less used location each time. If one fills a OS X boot drive up completely, it won't function or won't boot up.
If you do this fill routine regularly with software, then you prematurely wear out the SSD as it has limited writes. Why Disk Utility doesn't offer zero or 7x erase for SSD's.
If your in the 10% of Internet traffic that's going to adult sites, then the ability to scrub the caches and storage drive of embarrassing unwanted data is a necessity. Especially in the light of software and hardware that can read the SSD of deleted data.
Trick links and redirects on poisoned sites can firebomb your Mac with some pretty bad pictures and your hidden caches as well, especially if you don't like to pay.
IT personal have at their disposal free open source forensic software that basically aggregates all the past behavior done on the machine into a nice, easy to view format with times, dates and when and where content was downloaded from.
Since one has to give up their password for repair folks to recover data and fix the machine...
I think a SSD is less of a benefit over a 7,200 hard drive for that particular model of Mac for a mere few seconds faster boot time. -

My Macbook Pro recently had Leopard 10.5.8 oprating system, but I want Mavericks. I know that I need at least Snow Leopard or above, so I purchased Snow Leopard. I installed it once and everything looked good. I navigated to the app store, signed in, and proceeded to click download on the Mavericks upgade. An icon went to my dock like it was downloading, but it immediately paused itself and when I clicked resume, the download would not resume. I canceled the download and tried clicking download Mavericks again in the app store, but it still would not download. I went to go look at the progress in Launchpad, but I then realized that the Launchpad application was not in my dock. I opened a Finder window, navigated to applications, and searched for the Launchpad application, but it was not there either. I scoured the internet, including the Apple communities, for answers but I could not find any help at all. By this time I had sat through all the software updates and the operating system was at 10.6.8 with a "no new software" message when I checked for new software. Even then, there was still no Launchpad and Mavericks still would not download. I then proceeded to pop the Snow Leopard disc in again and reinstall. After I waited for it to finish, there is still no Launchpad and now my iTunes and App store have disappeared with a question mark on the dock in their place. After I realized this, I attempted to navigate through Safari in search of more help, but the laptop would not respond to my type and it seemed to redirect me every time I tried to post a question here in the Apple communities.
I have tried everything I can think of. Unfortunately, the rest of my family is PC and does not really have a clue when it comes to macs. I need my laptop for my work and I hope I can get answers if I post my own question instead of looking at other questions. I really need help. Thanks!1. Make sure iPad is using the latest software
2. Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On
3. Make sure Time Zone is correct
4. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo. -
How Do I back up mail on my MacBook Pro after deleting it on my MacBook Air?
Hello everyone!
Recently I deleted some emails from my MacBook Air not realising that they would be deleted on my MacBook Pro. When I realised what was going on I turned off the wifi on my Air and continued deleting. Basically I scrubbed just about everything in order to free up space on my Air for my iPhoto collection
Now I want to back up my mail folders and their contents on my MacBook Pro so I don't lose them.
Any suggestions? I had thought about duplicating the Folders on my mac in iCloud. When I select all and then go to the new iClould folder and paste it is very slow.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Now that I have learned (the hard way!) that when I deleted the mail messages from my MacBook Air I was removing them from the server I am VERY worried. I am afraid that when I reconnect my Air to the Internet it will delete all of my MacBook Air mail folders and emails.
I do have the Time Capsule and spoke to Apple Care here in Sydney about it yesterday. They told me my mail is not backed up there unless I create a special folder. I just tried ringing them again but Apple Care is closed today...
Thanks in advance for any help! If I should redirect this question to a more appropriate community please advise!

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule -
Mid 2012 macbook pro has become slow and has a malware on it i can't locate
I have a Faux flash player Malware window pops up randomly, used bit defender and activity monitor to try to find it with no luck.
Im looking for a free way to fix that guy.
RAM also seems to always be heavily used even with little open and running, windows lag when switching between Chrome windows and often gets overloaded on Vectorworks 2013 now, If i can get the flash update thing taken care up I may upgrade to 2X 8gb RAM if that can't be figured out to expedite
(Activity Monitor currently shows 8gb physical mem with 7.97 used, wasn't a problem often before Yosemite)
Heres my Etrecheck
Problem description:

You might get the alerts when visiting a website that has been hacked. Don't visit the site again. If applicable, notify the site administrator of the problem, but don't send email to an unknown party.
If you get the alerts when visiting more than one well-known website, such as Google, YouTube, or Facebook, then they may be the result of an attack on your router that has caused you to get false results from looking up the addresses of Internet servers. Requests sent to those sites are redirected to a server controlled by the attacker. It's possible, but less likely, that the DNS server used by your ISP has been attacked.
Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. If the fake update alerts stop, see below. Otherwise, ask for instructions.
The router's documentation should tell you how to reset it to the factory default state. Usually there's a pinhole switch somewhere in the back. It may be labeled "RESET." Insert the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool and press the button inside for perhaps 15 seconds, or as long as the instructions specify.
After resetting the router, quit the web browser and relaunch it while holding down the shift key. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Do the equivalent if you use another browser. Open the Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Then go through the router's initial setup procedure. I can't be specific, because it's different for every model. The key points are these:
1. Don't allow the router to be administered from the WAN (Internet) port, if it has that option. Most do.
2. Set a strong password to protect the router's settings: at least ten random upper- and lower-case letters and digits. Don't use the default password or any other that could be guessed. Save the password in your keychain. Any password that you can remember is weak.
3. If the router is wireless, or if you have a wireless access point on the network, use "WPA 2 Personal" security and set a different strong password to protect the network. If the router or access point doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and must be replaced.
During the time the router was compromised, you were redirected to bogus websites. If you ever connected to a secure site and got a warning from your browser that the identity of the server could not be verified, and you dismissed that warning in order to log in, assume that your credentials for the site have been stolen and that the attacker has control of the account. This warning also applies to all websites on which you saw the fake update alerts.
Check the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
If you downloaded and installed what you thought was a software update, ask for instructions. -
CAUTION! SourceForge, Linux Foundation printer drivers on MacBook Pro Retina
I have installed Gutenprint, USBTB, and HPIJS on my brand new MacBook Pro Retina in an attempt to get it to function with my HP Officejet K80 printer, to no avail.....and now they will not uninstall. To make matters worse, the uninstaller for all of these drivers actually installs another complete set of duplicate drivers on the computer. I now have 6 independent sets of HPIJS drivers on the computer. Further research has revealed that none of these third party drivers are likely to produce any success on OS X 10.8.4 anyway. After installing these drivers and attempting all of the various combinations including adding a usb to parallel adapter (K80 has both usb and parallel ports) with no success, I decided to purchase a new printer (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus). I now want these drivers off of the computer! All attempts to run the uninstall routines that downloaded with the original drivers have simply installed a duplicate set of drivers (with a .1, .2, .3 etc. extension).
These drivers came from SourceForge.net and The Linux Foundation. I now question whether they are even valid drivers or some sort of bogus software.UDATE:
I sent a detailed email to SourceForge.net at sfnet_ops as indicated for help on the sourceforge website. They sent a return email that they are only the hosting provider but redirected me to the exact project on sourceforge for help: http://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/support.
Unfortunately, this project does not indicate anyway to get help....as stated on that web page "Unfortunately, this project hasn't indicated the best way to get help."
I have also found now that a previous unrelated and installed download is now seems to be missing from my computer though I can not specifically state that it is due to my attempts to use the HPIJS uninstaller.
Is there another way to uninstall these drivers that now amount to junk (and possibly malicious) software?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Does Mac have any general uninstallers that will work? -

Where to even begin with the problames I'm having!? I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8, an iMac OS X 10.5.8, a 500GB Time Capsule, and an iPhone 4s. I know just enough about all of them to basically get myself into trouble... And It seems I have done a really good job at messing everything up!
I bought the iMac and Time capsule together in 2008. The Time Capsule didn't work properly for backups from the start (although it functions great as a router for my home network), and I spent several hours on the phone with applecare, took it to the Genius Bar etc., and it still has not ever worked as a continuous background backup. I did somehow manage to acquire one backup of the iMac with the TC before I did a reboot of the iMac a couple years ago. I can access the backup, but im not sure if the backup is actually on the time capsule or if it is saved on the HD. Furthermore, I have another backup (pretty sure it's a partial backup) from the MacBook Pro, and I don't know where that one is actually stored either. The Macbook Pro is so full that it is not functioning properly and i'm afraid it will die. I have subscribed to both Backblaze and Crashplan... The initial Backblaze backup completed on the MacBook, but I don't even have enough diskspace to download Crashplan. I need to get both Macs backed up to an external hard drive and I would like to save the backups I already have. I am also trying to start my own photograghy business, so I would like everything setup so that I can manage photos from both Macs and be condusive for storing and editing loads of photos. So here are my questions...
1. Can I (and should I) back up both Macs to one external hard drive?
2. Can I use the Time Capsule to route wireless continuous backups from the MacBook Pro to the external hard drive or would I need to have it wired every time?
3. Which external hard drive would be best for my situation? Would a RAID be best or is that overkill?
I am considering this one in either a 2TB or 3TB:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
4. Once everything is safely backed up, what is the best way to get my HD space freed up?
5. How do I set up the drives so that I'm not using all of my internal HD space for photos and music?
6. When I have enough space to upgrade to OS X Lion, will the cloud make a difference with how my photos are managed?
I know this has been extensive, and probably frustrating to those of you who know what your'e doing... Thanks so much for your time and patience!!1sweetORnurse wrote:
1. Can I (and should I) back up both Macs to one external hard drive?
You can (if it's large enough), but see below. You should probably create a second partition on the drive for the second Mac. You can also back them both up to the TC.
2. Can I use the Time Capsule to route wireless continuous backups from the MacBook Pro to the external hard drive or would I need to have it wired every time?
There are several options:
Since you have an iMac, by far the fastest, easiest, and most reliable way to back it up is to connect an external HD directly to it.
It's slower, but you can also back it up to the TC.
The laptop can be backed-up to the same drive as the one connected to the iMac, over your network.
Finally, although I wouldn't recommend it in this case, you could back up either or both to an external HD connected to the TC.
3. Which external hard drive would be best for my situation?
Most likely, a good quality external HD. If you're going to use Time Machine, see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #1 to be sure you get one large enough.
Would a RAID be best or is that overkill?
In most cases, overkill. For redundancy, duplicate backups made on a separate HD, with a different app, is a bit safer than a RAID. See FAQ #27 for some suggestions.
I am considering this one in either a 2TB or 3TB:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
That link doesn't work for me -- it redirects to the main page. I have one of their Mercury Elite Pro multi-interface drives, and it works fine. Most anything they sell will be fine, as long as it's large enough.
4. Once everything is safely backed up, what is the best way to get my HD space freed up?
Even before you do that, check for hidden large stuff on your Mac that you don't need. See Where did my Disk Space go? There may be some things there that will gain you a few GBs, at least.
Also, obviously, delete anything you don't need, especially video, photos, music.
Do you have duplicates of the same files on both Macs? If so, deleting one might save a lot of space.
Then, you need to consider where you're going in the future. Backups alone won't gain you any space -- the essential part of a good backup strategy is to have (at least) two copies of everything important in (at least) two different places.
So most likely, you need to move some big stuff, such as your iPhoto and/or iTunes libraries, or a large video collection, onto a different external HD, and let Time Machine (and/or other backup app) back it up along with your Macs.
5. How do I set up the drives so that I'm not using all of my internal HD space for photos and music?
Be sure to format them for a Mac (most come pre-formatted for Windoze). See #1 in Using Disk Utility.
Depending on what kind of data you want to move, you can just drag and drop, then delete.
And/or see:
Moving your iTunes Music folder
Moving your iPhoto '11 Library
Moving iMovie '11 footage to another drive
6. When I have enough space to upgrade to OS X Lion, will the cloud make a difference with how my photos are managed?
I don't think so.
What's on your TC now? Anything? If not, you might want to erase it and start backing up immediately, so you have at least some protection until you get the external HD(s). See To erase everything on the TC's internal disk in #Q5 of Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
Then see #Q1 there for setup instructions. If there's a problem, post back with details, or check Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Also don't hesitate to post back if this isn't clear, or you still have questions. -
Synching Iphone5 with up to date iOS to Macbook Pro
I am having problems synching podcasts from my phone to my macbook pro.
I subscribe to podcasts on my phone, and when I connect my iphone to my macbook, they appear under devices: podcasts.
Ever since I upgraded to iOS7, while my phone shows I have 7 podcasts, Itunes shows I actually have 0.
I do not know if it is iphone or macbook problem, any ideas?I have the same problem. I bought a MacBook Pro just when Lion was released and the stock they had was Snow Leapord version. I spicifically asked to have upgrade to Lion since it was a clean install. They told me I had a upgrade and could download "anytime".
First problems with the servers. Then server finally registers my MacBoook and says "your complementary upgrade has expired".
That was 3 weeks ago! Since then I have been trying to contact Apple service (BTW, I bought Apple Care 3 years service, a real mistake nd waste of money) but get nowhere. Why? You are going to love this:
1. I live in China.
2. This MacBook I bought with English OS for Biz reasons (Chinese OS some issues with Oracle Server).
3. Trying to get service from China, US or any Apple site, the server redirects me to UK. (Really, it gets better, keep reading.)
4. UK Service advises they cannot work over internet, you must call their service lines.
5. All of the service lines are "08" charge lines that CANNOT BE CONNECTED FROM OUTSIDE THE UK. (It still gets better, I promise)
6. They cannot call you. They cannot give you a local number (call international at own cost).
7. They keep sending letters about really caring about me, bla-bla-bla, your opinion matters bla-bla-bla, obviously a Robot or Robot Like Person on the other end.
8. Problem never actually solved. Ever.
9. Service seems not to actually exist on any level except Robotic Excess that makes you want to throw the PowerBook in some "Genius'" face and ask for a refund, but .... (yes, there is more) ....
10. Local "Genius" advises he cannot help with the software, need to solve that online.
11. Finally I understand why Apple headquarters is at One Infinate Loop because it is named after the service organization.
Any ideas? Is Dell any worse? Hard to imagine.
