MacBook Pro 10.6.8 software updates will not install

I have five software updates that will not install. I have checked my hardware and my disk space and all seem fine. I also, downloaded and installed the Apple Software Installer Update 1.0 but my updates will still not install. Any other suggestions?

Installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo will reinstall the App Store for you. Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8. Then try launching the app.
if that doesn't help, try contacting the developer of the app >  http://support.aspyr.com/home

  • OSX software updates will not install

Softward updates will not install on my MacBook Air (OSX 10.7.4).  The updates download, but then during the installation process a message pops up saying that an error occurred and that nothing was installed.  I've tried it 5 times with the same result each time.
Any suggestions (for a non-technical person)?

This is on Windows7 64-bit PCs running Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.0, 11.0.3, 11.0.4, or 11.0.6, we have 7 machines in this state. Have uninstalled, have used Acrobat uninstall tool in safe moved to remove old app. 11.0.0 will reinstall but 11.0.7 update will not. Gets well into the patching section, then stops and rolls back, error 1603.

  • Software updates will not install...  error message

Software updates refuse to install for several weeks/months... backed up to six or more updates... cannot get any help from apple unless i pay them 75 dollars but i am sure it is something simple... when i attempt to update, i put in my pass code, they download and when they go to install the error message says "none of the checked updates can be installed, sorry an unexpected error has occurred" vague enough for you? Can anyone help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What happens when you run Software Update?
Get MacJanitor and run the Maintenance scripts. When it's finished quit MacJanitor and restart your Mac.
Have you checked the hard disk for errors?
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode

  • MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2013, 11.3) will not install Windows 7SP1 Pro

    Hi All,
I have had many go's at this, but I am unable to install Windows 7 bootcamp on my late 2013 15" retina macbook pro.
First I'll head off with the specs:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,3
      Processor Name: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed: 2,3 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 16 GB
      Boot ROM Version: MBP112.0138.B02
      SMC Version (system): 2.19f3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (and the Intel of course)
      512GB SSD
      16GB USB3 thumbdrive
      Windows 7SP1-U
      Windows 8.1
    First try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
Let it run and run, changed the partition to 101GB, eventually at the installer screen it asks for drivers. Dunno which, but keyboard and mouse fully functional
    Second Try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
Same issue... no drivers for, I don't know which driver
    Third Try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
boot with alt and boot into osx
remove the partition made by assistant and redo that by making a exFAT
reboot and start windows installer from USB
Same issue... no drivers for, I don't know which driver
    Fourth try:
Same as third, but with a USB2 thumbdrive
    fail...
    Fifth try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
Copied Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver (read it somewhere but cant find the page anymore, downloaded from the Intel site)
Reboot, no KB/mouse so that failed
    Sixth Try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484)) but with a Windows 8.1 ISO
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
Finally I had the opportunity to install Windows, but... v8. (and I want 7)
Let the install continue, but exited after 1 hour staring at "almost finished"
    Seventh try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484)) but with a Windows 8.1 ISO
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
boot with alt and boot into osx
remove the partition made by assistant and redo that by making a exFAT
reboot and start windows installer from USB
Let the install continue, but exited after 45 minutes staring at "almost finished" (less patient this time)
    Eight try:
Same as try #2, hoping to get lucky....?
Unfortunately I can't come up with options. So any suggestions are welcome!
Maybe Win7 will never install on this
Maybe I need a different Windows 8 ISO
Can't go back to OSX 10.8 as it's not supported on this Macbook.
Ow... and why do I want Windows? Need to test several pieces of software which don't run on Mac
(also wanna play the Windows games with Steam in freetime)
    Thanks!!!!

Also I'm using TimeMachine + external HDD (do backups once in 2 weeks).
    Sorry I missed that.
This is what I think is happening:

There are two options, keep the Time Machine HDD connected full time or turn Time Machine off and on only when you want to make the backup.

  • Latest software update will not install

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and the latest updates do not want to install. It downloads fine looks like it installs, but end up with a "An Undexpected Error Occurred." I've had this machine for 3 years now and have never encountered an update problem before. Is anyone else haveing this problem?

  • Software Update will not install

    I have this re-occurring problem:
1 - iTunes store will not load because it needs new Safari Update
2 - Mac searches automatically for software update and comes up with:
    • Safari 4.0.3
    • Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update version 1.0
    • Security Update 2009-006 version 1.00
3 - Prompt appears for 3 items to be installed and Restart
4 - Computer logs out and then comes up with message " Software could not be installed on / "
I have been through this several times - if anyone can suggest a solution I'd be delighted

thanks for your response hatter .. but as you will see from my signature below, I am not using Snow Leopard... Am still on basic Leopard (10.5.6)
    Anyone else please?

  • Macbook 15 freezing - SMC 1.9 update will not install

I have Macbook Pro 15 Mid 2010 model
    Model Identifier 6.2
The computer has been freezing up.
I'm running SMC Version 1.58f16 and tried to upgrade to version 1.9.
When I run the installer I receive a message that the 1.9  software upgrade is not meant to run on this machine.
How can I get the latest SMC firmware installed?

Ok, so I installed drivers from the system restore disks that came with my laptop, and the error message changed, still doesn't work, but progress is good, right?
    Now it says:
"The installed product does not match the installation source(s). Until a matching source is provided or the installed product and source are synchronized, this action can not be performed.
Contact your administrator or product vendor for assistance. If there is a matching installation source, type it below or click Browse to locate it"
Now, what on earth does that mean? In the test box, the default path is "C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\Boot Camp 3.0.0\", which doesn't exist on my computer. When I click "browse" it lets me look for a .msi file, which I cannot find and do not know where to look for.
If I click OK, another error pops up saying:
"The file 'D:\Boot Camo\Drivers\Apple\BootCamp.msi' is not a valid installtion package for the product Boot Camp Services. Try to find the installtion package 'BootCamp.msi' in a folder from which you can install Boot Camp Services"
Please, please, please, if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, Iwould be very obliged. Thanks again in advance!

  • Software updates will not install...?

    Hi all,
I have a number of updates I wish to install but am having some difficulty. The updates include itunes 8.2, J2SE 5.0, Quicktime & security updates.
I am getting the following message - "None of the checked updates could be installed - A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again"
My internet connection is fast & stable, my hard drive has 11.46gb available..
Is there anything else I should be trying? Any tips/ ideas?? All help is appreciated!

Have you tried starting the computer in SafeBoot mode,
by holding the Shift key down on startup, throughout
the duration until a login window appears, then after a
desktop finder window is steady, use Go in the Finder
menubar to go into Utilities Folder. Then launch Disk
Utility from there; click on Macintosh HD & click on the
little button in the utility named 'repair disk permissions.'
After Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' has run and
the permissions on the volume are repaired, quit the
utility and restart the computer normally. This may help.
Over the course of time, doing nothing to maintain the
Mac OS X system may result in odd behavior; some-
times months or years after running a computer, a few
odd issues may come up. In the case of Mac OS X, to
repair disk permissions before and after software update
and security update, and installations of applications, is
a form of preventative maintenance. Helps it work better.
A free downloadable utility interface tool such as OnyX
from Titanium Software's web page, can also help in
doing several kinds of maintenance. This can be set up
to run in an Automation mode and you can checkbox
several items, and in the utility's own Preferences, one
of them allow you to have the utility restart the computer
when the items in Automation are completed. This is
one of a few great freeware/donationware utility tools.
A side question: How was the last step in your iBook's
OS X version arrived at? Was it a small file update to
the latest numbered step or was it a larger Combo file?
If not the larger file, perhaps to repair disk permissions
and then get and install the large Combo 10.4.11 (etc)
over the existing similar version/step, then repair disk
permissions on the system on restart after installing it.
Not seeing the computer or trying the simple things
first (easier to do and show how, than to tell about)
makes these discussions sometimes a bit wary...
There is also a chance you may have to start the
computer from the Installer Disc and then use a
special Disk Utility version accessed within the
Installer's menu bar, prior to actually running the
Installer itself. The menu bar looks like the Finder
but says Installer in the upper left hand corner; so
the menu bar has drop down items. At some step
in the process, there is no menu bar, be watchful.
You do not need to run the installer, just Disk Utility.
You can repair disk, repair disk permissions, and
verify either. Choose repair on both counts, since
that will also verify and repair. And also note if
the drive SMART status verification says passed.
To boot from the installer disc, you have to hold
the C key down on startup until you see a screen
indicating you have a new window, and then the
second screen in 10.4 shows the menu bar on top.
If you need to go that far... Of course, the Installer's
booted Disk Utility can be used for further and more
advanced processes including totally erasing drives,
formatting, archive/installing, & other utility functions.
Knowing when to need to use some of these, and how
is part of the learning processes which can save you
time and money by getting a handle on the basics first.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I've downloaded the software update to my computer, but when trying to install it to my iPod, it fails halfway through. I gave it about 5 hours the first time, but the progress bar didn't budge. I would reinstall the update but I don't know how to do that.

  • Today's (June 12) Software Updates Will Not Install

Anyone else having this issue?  It downloads today's two updates to Snow Leopard (iTunes10.6.3 and AirPort Utility 5.6.1) and then proceeds with the progress bar which reaches a point 2/3 of the way and never progresses after 30 minutes.  At that time, it keeps alerting that the installations failed.  Anyone else having this problem?

Okay, the difference seemed to be that I could install them individually by manually downloading them and discover which of them is the culprit.  It is the AirPort Utility Update that is not installing.  I may try rebooting and installing but I want to wait a day or two to see if others are having this issue with update and Apple releases a revised one instead of installing something faulty.
    This is what it says:

I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine.  I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one?  Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well?  It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

Hi David.  I don't have as modern a Macbook Pro as you, mine is a 2012 model, but perhaps I can help.  I often find that my SD card will not load when I first insert it.  I have to remove it and then put it into the slot again firmly.
You also haven't posted any information about the SD card.  What size is it, do you know how it is formatted, has it worked in that same mac previously, where did it come from, does it currently work in another device (such as your camera)?  This sort of information will help to narrow down the problem.
If you post some more information I'm sure people will try to help you.  In the meantime, if you look at your post again you should see "More Like This" at the bottom of the page and you may find an answer in some of those related posts.
    Hope that helps.

  • Every time my MacBook Pro is put to sleep, it will not connect to the internet when reopened unless diagnostic assistant is performed. Ridiculous!

Every time my MacBook Pro is put to sleep, it will not connect to the internet upon reopening unless I perform diagnostic assistant.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. Reinstall OS X.
