Macbook Pro 13" 2009 and SSD choice?

Hi all,
I am looking to add a SSD drive to the optical drive space on my Macbook Pro 13" 2009(Aug) 2.5Gz. Just wonder what's the most reliable drive for 256gb under $400. I have read many problems with SATA II negotiated speed, and etc. Several forums suggested M4 (installation issue?), and Samsung 830 on the Macbook Pro 2009. Anyone can share their experience and advice?

A week ago I update to Yosemite from Mavericks...it was ****.
The computer did anything but I want to do.
Some times track pad went well and suddenly it didn't work...same with the wireless mouse.
I couldn't even run properly any web browser.
Off course I'm not a computer guru and takes me 2 days to restore Mavericks by my own.
Please, don't ask how because I don't know...call me lucky.
My question is if some day Yosemite will run properly in my computer.
Theoretically it is compatible but in the field is a mess.
I tried all the recommended issues on the Internet forums and it didn't work.
If someone knows something about it, I will appreciate.

Next time try erasing the hard drive and installing Yosemite from scratch. When it's running properly then reinstall your third-party applications from original sources being sure to only install those that are compatible. Finally, you can restore your data.
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

Upgrading Macbook Pro (Mid 2009) to SSD help....!!

Hi all,
I'm new to doing any upgrades myself and consider myself a real novice with things like this. I have a MacBook Pro 13' (Mid 2009).
Ok, so I've purchased Crucial 8GB DDR3 RAM (2x4GB) and a Samsung 840 250GB SSD. I am happy with changing the items over but require help in recovering my system afterwards.
I am thinking i would like to do a clean install as i have collected so much rubbish on my hard-drive over the past 5 years. I have all my wanted data from my HDD i.e. iPhoto library, iTunes library and documents saved onto my 1TB external hard-drive.
Will i need to copy all of my applications etc onto my external hard-drive also and is there anything else i should be copying to make my life easier?
I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10 and have watched a few video's on installing this onto a USB flash for rebooting.
Is this the best way for me to configure my new hard-drive? I have downloaded carbon copy cloner but don't believe i require the whole amount of data currently held on my HDD (100GB) and have no idea what i do and don't need from it to enable me to reboot with OS X Yosemite and all my required applications. I presume once i get to that stage i can just reload Microsoft Office from disc and transfer my iPhoto library, iTune's library and my documents from the external hard-drive?
I hope this makes sense and somebody can help me to configure my system correctly, hopefully i'm nearly there?

Issues with MacBook Pro mid 2012 and SSD data 3

I installed a Samsung SSD in my macbook pro model A1278, it work very well since yesterday; maverick 10.9.2 run very very slow and it have a lot of lag. And so ai provide to reinstall the native HDD and it run very well. I decided to buy another SSD of OCZ, the previous was Samsung 830, and the system didn't recognise the ssd, but if i link it with usb it work. Anyone have the same problem?

I verified multiple times to ensure that the MBP-R and the ATV2 were connected to the same wifi. That's all that would be required with my network set up since there are no configured sub-networks. All of the devices connected can see each-other. I also verified this by checking in the router. Sure enough, the ATV2 is listed with all of the other devices.
There were other problems related to Internet content with the ATV2 when I shipped it in for repairs under warranty. It was constantly disconnecting and reconnecting, and no matter what, it wouldn't remember any settings. I noticed these defects after I asked this question. I suspect that, because there has been some horrible weather and lots of power surges here, that it became damaged from a surge. This was not plugged into a surge protector like everything else, so I brought that on upon myself unfortunately.

Hello I have a Macbook pro 13inch (2009) and I'm having problems with the HD

I ran into some problems with my Macbook a while back, but was able to fix it with disk utilities. However I tried to turn it on today and it would get stuck at the grey screen. It would get pretty hot too. Anyway I tried to boot into safe mode but it wouldn't do it, the bar at the bottom that shows its booting into safe mode would load halfway then disappear. I went into single user mode and did the /sbin/fsck -fy command and I would eventually get "the volume macintosh HD is fine" or something like that. When I would click exit so it would boot, it would wait for a bit then show diskOs2 : media not present all across the screen and would not stop. Any ideas? I'm pretty worried for my data. Any help is appreciated.

MacBook Pro mid 2009 HDD to a Kingston SSD SATA drive - Problems

I own a MacBook Pro Mid 2009 and I'm running OSX Mavericks with Windows 8.1 Pro Bootcamp. I wanted to upgrade to an SSD drive and after reading the great reviews on Amazon, I purchased a Kingston 240GB SSD 2.5" V300 SATA 3.
Many of the buyers had installed the SSD drive on Macbook Pro, including "mid 2009' models without any real problems but I've just spent the best part of 3 hours trying to install the drive but so far, it has not worked and the problem seems to be that, although the Acronis True Image software that comes with the drive to 'clone' the source drive and install it onto the destination drive (new SSD drive), I get a message which states, "WARNING: After migration, the O/S will not be able to boot from the destination disk in the BIOS - If you want to boot from the destination disk after migration, you need to enable UEFI booting in your system and then restart".
During one of my first attempts to install the SSD drive, I removed the original HDD from the MBP and installed it in the supplied 2.5" caddy and and connected it to the MBP via the USB cable supplied then installed the new Kingston SSD SATA3 drive in the MBP, powered up and then rebooted. The Acronis bootable software launched and after choosing 'clone disk', cose source and destination drives, I got a message saying: "The selected disk will be migrated as is (disks layout will remain GPT)". "After operation completion, operating systems will not boot from the destination disk in the BIOS".
My system has the latest available Boot ROM Version (MBP.00AC.B03 and the SMC Version is 1.47f2 and as far as I am aware, Apple computers have no BIOS that you can access like on Windows computers and instead use EFI instead.
Both drives had Extended Journaled GUID Partitions on them and what baffles me is that other buyers of these Kingston SSD SATA3 drives appear to have managed to install the SSD drive, but I've had to give up.
I would really like to get the SSD drive working but so far I've failed. Any advice would be appreciated and I'll try it out before reluctantly returning the drive for refund.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it in my first post, but I did use the Disk Utility in Mac OSX and erased, formatted and partitioned the drive and then pushed CMD + R at start up but I was not able to install a copy of the OS because the drive was not recognised.
I think I also used the disk utility in Windows and then tried again in OSX but no luck. I'm no expert but as stated above, the issue seems to be that the SSD drive is not booable in the BIOS (or Mac equivalent).
The SSD drive is SATA 3 and I'm sure that the SATA ports are SATA 1 on my MBP and maybe that the problem Perhaps someone can confirm this.

Your Mac has (or used to have) a built-in Optical drive. You need a physical DVD for Windows and a USB2 flash drive for BC drivers. Bootcamp Info.plist modifications cause more problems than they resolve.
Your Mac is also not UEFI compliant, late 2013+ Macs are the first ones to be, so EFI boot will not work.

Recently installed same type of SSD (Intel 520 120GB) in our 2010 Macbook (white) and runs just as well as its big bro. No problems at all. Storage isn't an issue since most stuff's in the cloud these days and we carry large files around on a USB stick. Way to go!

Just installed 10.6.8 on a August 2009 Macbook Pro with 120 GB SSD (which is Apple installed memory), and TRIM is not enabled. When I installed 10.6.8 on an August 2010 Macbook Pro with 500 GB SSD (Apple installed), the TRIM became enabled without me doing anything else. Is there some procedure I should use to enable TRIM on the August 2009 unit? Thank you for your advice. Carl

Not my take on this at all. My Air for example struggled with write fatigue something chronic - after filling it up the drive performance was down to about 40% on benchmarking, and in the real world felt a lot slower than it was. Enabling TRIM and then erasing free-space resulted in it benchmarking back to where it was at new, and the real performance being back to how I remembered it.
The Sandforce controller enabled Vertex 2E - I don't know if it's made a world of difference to that as I don't remember that unit suffering with write fatigue particularly.
The Crucial M225 struggled with write fatigue, and again TRIM sorted it out - and still has.
All the above perf tests/comparisons etc. are all on my blog if you want to have a look see.

My optical drive is non-functional and I want to dual boot with win7. The only problem is my macbook does not boot from USB at all, even when I hold th ALT key down when it is starting up.
-I have a flashdrive with win7 on it.
-I mounted the ISO of win7 with toast for bootcamp to do its thing.

You can use XP but it has to be in a Virtual Machine and OS X as the host instead of as a dual boot system with XP in its own partition. That is how I run Windows on my Mac, in a Virtual Machine.
Take a look at VritualBox from Oracle. It's free and works very well.

your 13-inch Mid 2009 MacBook Pro requires 1066 MHz RAM, but you have 1333 MHz RAM installed. Try replacing the 1333 MHz RAM with 1066 MHz RAM — Macs can be picky about the RAM which they find acceptable.

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.
