Macbook Pro 13" crashes constantly while watching video (like Netflix with Silverlight, Flash games, or other games like Diablo III)

I would like to point out that I upgraded my RAM memory to 4GB from the original 2GB... that's the only thing that I've ever done to make me think that maybe it's making my machine faulty.

OK, I found the kernel panic last log and here's the text... hope it helps... HELP PLEASE!! This happens to me at least once every two days...

  • How long is the iPad battery last while watching video on YouTube with 3G?

How long is the iPad2 battery last while watching video on YouTube with 3G?

My iPad 2 battery can use only ~7 hours 15mins when surfing the web using cellular data network. Is it normal?
I would say that's normal. Cellular uses more power than wifi. Your screen brightness is also a factor. Lower the screen brightness & battery will last longer.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Why does my macbook pro keep crashing/restarting while streaming the world cup?

I was watching this time for over an hour and all of a sudden (without other apps running or any action on my part) it crashed. I've done a disk utility repair and it's still happening. I need some help. Here's the last crash report:

Thanks, that seemed to work. But now I've been having a new issue lately. I'm starting to think its hardware related, but either way I've had many crashes...some not always with a crash report. It seems my SMC is acting up at times, and other times the screen will glitch out and produce these pixelated horizontal bars and then crash. I just reinstalled OS X, I've run the usual diagnostics. I'm getting ready to run a Apple Hardware Test, but I figured I'd come to you for help first.
Here's the most recent crash that occurred (no horizontal bars this time), but it did crash and refuse to restart (it beeps the strange tone from what seems like a spot other than the speaker, that's how I came across the system management controller reset). Anyway, here's the report:

  • Playing Counter Strike Source on Macbook Pro Unibody crashes constantly

I'm running Macbook pro with the 2.8 ghz processors and 320gb 7200rpm I've boot camped my mac with a xp 32bit cd installed all the drivers from the mac os cd then installed the rest of the drivers and updates from windows update then once that was finished i went to apple.com and downloaded bootcamp 2.1 update for xp. installed steam then bought and downloaded CS. I'll load up counter strike and i turned all the visual effects to as low as they go the resolution is not high same as the ratio which is set at normal.I'll be playing counter strike and within 10 seconds of joining a server to about 4-5 minutes my computer screen will go black sounds will repeat like it froze then i have to hold the power button. At first i thought it was the laptop overheating. XP runs the fans at full speed and my laptop is sat on top of a laptop cooler with 2 fans spinning at 2000rpm. I didn't think this was enough so i put a pretty powerful house fan up next to my computer and put it on full blast. The unibody didn't even get warm it was so good at cooling but yet again 2 minutes playing CS I crashed again. Can anyone help me out? Other then the crashing and having to reset my laptop the game runes at 150fps average even the video stress test said i did 190 fps.

After several more tests I’ve arrived at a solution.
There seems to be a random element in Boot Camp’s installation process that creates an IRQ resource conflict in Windows. The BSOD I was getting indicated that “IRQL not less than or equal to” and a BCM.sys file was responsible for the conflict. This file is related to the Broadcom Ethernet driver.
Reverting back to Boot Camp 2.1 actually made Counter Strike crash even sooner, but suggested to me that Boot Camp drivers were responsible. I performed a complete uninstall and reinstalled to Boot Camp 3.0. Hours of game play later and no crashes or BSOD.
If a complete uninstall and reinstall doesn’t fix it for you the first time, try it again. I think it just has to “randomly” assign the IRQ correctly. Manually assigning the IRQ probably won’t work as Windows apparently cannot detect the conflicts until it fails.
Direct X 10 is not responsible for the problem. I tested this by running CSS in 9.0c mode via an advanced start command and it still crashed. Oh, and I also discovered that Direct X 10 is integrated into Vista and cannot be uninstalled or rolled back.

  • How to put MacBook Pro display to sleep while watching DVD on 2nd Display

Not sure if this is answered elsewhere, but I have a MacBook Pro with a second larger display attached thru DVI. As I watch DVDs on the external display, I would like to darken out the MacBook Pro screen so it is not distracting while watching the movie. I seemingly can't put only the MacBook display to sleep - both displays goto sleep. I can't close the MacBook either. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hold the '"Darker" key down until the screen is ghostly.

  • MacBook Pro 2008 crashes constantly with Yosemite

    Hi!
I'm running an early 2008 15" MacBook Pro with 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB memory, and I just installed Yosemite 10.10.2 as well as the 4 GB memory and a new Samsung 840 EVO SSD 250 GB hard drive and now my computer crashes frequently, seemingly at random. It freezes, for a second, then shuts down and starts up again and this is the report it provides once it has restarted:

I don't understand the report at all and I couldn't find another topic with the same problem, so if anyone has any ideas what is wrong, if there's something I could fix, I'd really appreciate the help! Before the upgrade my MBP was running OS X 10.5.8 and after replacing the old hard drive with the new SSD drive and upgrading the 2 GB memory to 4 GB I first installed OS X 10.6.8 and only then downloaded Yosemite.
I'll gladly provide more information if needed!
    Thank you,
    H

Thanks so much for the superfast reply!
It seems that the new RAM was the problem, although memtest on both RAMs gave me nothing but okays all the way. But I removed one of the new RAMs anyway and with only one RAM in one of the slots there hasn't been anymore panics. So thank you!
It is kind of a shame though, because with 4 GB RAM my MBP was a lot faster and they were specifically for MBPs too, so I'm wondering what's the problem. The memtest said they were fine too, and my MBP should be able to handle max. 4 GB RAM, so could the RAM still be faulty despite what the memtest said, or is there possibly something I could do to stop the panics and still use the 4 GB RAM? I know it's probably a long shot to ask, but I have to try in case someone is experiencing the same problem and knows what to do.
Still, thank you so much for you help, OGELTHORPE!

  • Mute notifications while watching video (YouTube, Netflix, etc)

Hi! i just bought the Apple Composite AV Cable and it works great.
one thing I do find annoying is while watching Netflix or YouTube, either reminders from my calendar or push notifications show up and pause the video until I go to my iPad and dismiss them.
Is there any way to disable (or postpone these notifications) until after I'm done watching my video?

I don't see Calendar in the list of applications.
will this turn off reminders as well?
as an aside, is it possible for application developers to "mute" notifications while video is streaming (or at least make it an option?)

  • Hi! i recently got a macbook pro 15" retina display, and i tried to play assassin's creed 2 and other games on it, but the thing is, the keyboard keys will not respond except the trackpad, and the keyboard keys work fine outside of gaming.

Hi! so like i said in the title, i tried to play any game like assassin's creed and minecraft, but the keyboard wont respond but the trackpad does, also i tried restarting reinstalling checking if mouse key is on or off and all that, and it still wont fix this problem.  Outside of gaming though, the keyboard works with no problem. Please help me!

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro keep shutting off while I'm using it with full battery?

My Battery is 100% full and it keeps shutting off randomly, how can I fix this?

This is something you should log. Whenever your machine shuts off randomly, make a note of the time and what you were doing on your machine at the time. You may find that the shut downs aren't random at all. I had a similar problem with "random" shutdowns, and discovered that there was a power supply issue.
Please post here with your results.

  • Help: iMac freeze while watching video

    Hello,
Since Lion I sometimes have a serious freeze while watching videos.
It does not occur very often, it happens every month or so.
After upgrade to Mountain Lion I thought it would not happen anymore but this problem still persists.
Since Lion I had freezes while watching video on Youtube, with MplayerX, QuickTimePlayer, VLC and so on.
All freezes occured only in Fullscreen mode.
When my iMac is stuck the Display shows the current Video frame and plays a small fraction of the current audio in a loop.
The Keyboard and Mouse is unresponsive.
At this point the only option for me is to force a restart.
Does someone know a solution for this?
    LightReaper
    My specification:
    iMac 24 inch (early 2009)
3,06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1067Mhz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB
    OSX 10.8

First do what whyisitsohard (HUH?) suggests. If that does not resolve the issue take a look at how much free space is available on your Hard drive. I would not recommend running Mac OS X with less than 10% free space remaining on your startup volume. The free space is used for hidden swap files that Mac OS X needs do to virtual memory, and for other temporary files used by the system. Once free space gets low, the remaining free space becomes more and more fragmented into small pieces. That makes it hard for Mac OS X to operate efficiently. This issue is most apparent when watching videos.

  • My MacBook Pro gets very slow while doing  work like watching movies and using net .. video gets lag very often

My MacBook Pro gets very slow while doing  work like watching movies and using net .. video gets lag very often and while surffing on net it gets very slow ...

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • My MacBook Pro completely crashes while loading up games

    Hey all, thanks for reading.
I'm running a MacBook Pro (<1 year old)
Processor: 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    RAM: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
It's connected to the power supply, and it's set to High Performance (meaning the dedicated graphics card should be in use)
Every time I try to play a game, my Mac completely freezes. I'm currently trying to play the Sims 3; hardly graphic-intensive. As soon as I click the Play button, the screen goes black and the disc drive starts to whirr (sometimes vibrating the computer violently). Then the animated EA logo swirls onto the screen, and the load music starts up. Before the EA logo can fully animate, my computer dies. The screen instantaneously goes black, and the background music keeps playing in a skipping fashion, like a broken record: click-click-click-click.
Force Quit does nothing. None of the hardware buttons, e.g. volume/brightness controls, do anything. I have to hold down the power button to restart.
It probably isn't overheating, since I've tried with my fans on full blast (smcFanControl) and I'm currently using a laptop cooling pad.
I used to be able to play the Sims for a few hours before it would crash: it has gotten much worse. I downloaded the WoW demo and got a bit farther: I could create a character, but within 5 seconds of playing this same problem would happen.
I know Macs aren't particularly good at playing games, but this seems a bit ridiculous. Can anyone help? I have the full error report saved, if that would be useful.
Summary: While loading a game, my MacBook Pro full-crashes, becoming totally unresponsive, before the EA logo can even animate.

Try it using the other (dedicated) graphics. Also, run your hardware tester.
