MacBook Pro 13" Graphics Card

I've got a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2012 Non-Retina 2.9GHz intel core i7 model. Is there any way for me to install a graphics card in it? Upto 1 GB at least? If not, what is the maximum memory I can install? And which company's graphics card should I buy? I don't have a budget as my father won't buy me a new Macbook Pro, but he doesn't care what the graphics card costs. I know, it's silly, I could easily get the 15 inch retina display model, but I unfortunately bought this one as the Retina Display model was out of stock and I'd have to wait a week for it to arrive. I didn't have the patience, so I bought this one. Any help?

Intel HD Graphics 4000 (all 13- and 15-inch configurations)

  • How to upgrade my Macbook Pro's Graphic Card?

    I have a Early 2012 13 inch Macbook Pro and it's ***** when I play games.
    Here are the specs:
    - 2.8 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
    - 6 GB RAM
    - Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    - OSX Mavericks 10.9.2
    - 750 GB HDD 1333 MHz DDR3
It lags a lot when I play such an old games such as GTA Vice City (the FPS drops a lot when my mac getting hot) or GTA San Andreas (quite stable). Both of them aren't modded and still original. Is there any way to upgrade my Macbook Pro's graphic card?

You cannot upgrade the Graphics card on a laptop because everything is built into the logic board. Unfortunately your perticular graphics chip is actually built into the CPU, and is a very low performing chip which would definately make gaming hard.
    Sorry for the bad news.

  • Can the Macbook Pro 13" graphic card be upgraded

My son has a Macbook Pro 13" and for school, he needs a 15" or 17" screen for the graphic card and I want to know if the 13" be upgraded to have the graphic card needed for his requirements for school?

Specifically what is the school requirement? What for?

  • Can i upgrade my 2006 macbook pro's graphics card?

I have a late 2006 MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 2,1) and i would like to know whether or not i can upgrade the graphics card? If it is possible what are the restrictions? Thanks.

No. The GPU is soldered onto the logic board and cannot be replaced.
If you need to upgrade the machine, I'm afraid that the only solution is to purchase a new MacBook Pro.
    Sorry,

  • My MacBook pro's graphics card isn't compatible with FCP X.  What are my options here?

So I cant even try the free trial because there is no graphics card compatablility?  I have an older macbook pro, 2006, running snow leopard.
What are my best options here for video editing?
I have used FCP before, so would prefer to get a version of that.  Would it be dumb to try and get FCP 7?
    Should I settle for Imovie?
    My experience is advanced intermediate...
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Macbook Pro (aluminum) graphic card issue?

Hey guys, sorry if this has been covered but I can't seem to find an answer to my specific question.  I have an older macbook pro, 17" running os x 10.6.8 (I believe.)  It's one of the first intel versions with the square aluminum case.  I did upgrade the RAM, which I've seen can cause some problems, but I don't think that's what's causing mine.  It's been over a year since I installed the RAM and have only had a few messages about unstable RAM.  I just restart and it goes away.
Anyway, was watching Netflix and paused it, when I started it again the video froze in weird lines.  I restarted, everything was fine.  Played the video again, this time it didn't even start, just straight to glitchy weird frozen video lines.  Restarted again, apple splash screen and processing wheel come up like normal but now it just boots to white/grey screen.
I did the PRAM reset (or whatever it's called) and it didn't work.  I also ran both Apple Hardware Tests (the short one and the long one) both came up empty.  The computer WILL boot in safe mode.  So I guess my question is, is this a graphic card thing or a third party thing?  Any advice on how to go about "updating or uninstalling third party software?"  Which is, I'm pretty sure, what I'm supposed to do.  But with a five + year old computer, that's a very daunting task.

It's a logic board failure.  Thanks for all your help.  I'm awarding myself 10 of your nerd points for solving my own problem.

  • Is my 2011 15" Macbook Pro's graphics card standard/working correctly?

I have been trying to update the drivers for my AMD HD Radeon 6750M graphics card on my 2.2Ghz Macbook Pro 15 Late 2011, but when using the search option here I can't manage to find it? Was wondering if i'm not looking correctly or what..
Another question is whether or not it is standard to have 512mb of video ram with this computer, because in my profiler it only shows 512mb but from the site i bought it it stated 1gb of vram. It does have integrated gpu; intel hd graphics 3000 with another 512mb so do they work together to equate to 1gb?
Last query is whether it is normal to get the error 'your video card does not support alpha blending with floating point render targets' when trying to play a standard game (Super MNC) on bootcamp/virtual machine because i expected a video card in a model at a decent end of the range to be able to run games like this..
Some insight into either 3 of my queries would be appreciated,
    cheers

Apple releases updates to the graphics drivers via software update. Normally updates are released with OS X updates. The computer switches use between the integrated card and the discrete card. When you access About This Mac it will only provide information of the card currently in use. Turn off Automatic Graphics Swithing in System Preferences>Energy Saver and then open About This Mac.

  • Help - VMWare Fusion, Macbook Pro, Vista, Graphics Cards & Games

Help, please ... We just purchased a new MacBook Pro with an NVida 8600M graphics card. The operating system is up-to-date.
I installed the latest version ov VMWare Fusion. Then installed Windows Vista Basic, and it is up-to-date with Service Patch 1. All the basic Vista services appear to work as it would on a PC.
Next, I installed the game Sims 2. When I try to run the game, I get an error message that says:
"... did not detect a hardware capable of running DirectX 9.0 ..."
I checked NVida and the 8600M is capable of running DirectX 10.0.
Does anyone have any idea on how I can get this game to work????
    Thanks

VMware is software emulation and at this point cannot use your graphics card. You need to install Vista using bootcamp and run it through there to have access to the graphics card. remember to install the boot camp files and all drivers after you install Vista

  • Can I change my Macbook Air's Graphics card?

Hello, I'm having a problem with my Macbook Air's graphics card. When i open After Effects CC, it says that i need an approved NVIDIA Graphics. That in other means, should I change my Macbook Air's graphics card? Even some programs requires me an NVidia Graphics or ATI graphics to render the media. This annoys me a lot as i can't render the media out the software!
So, is there any possible way i can customise my Macbook Air's Graphics by changing it or some sort?
Service it? Pay it? Ask the iBox store? Dismantle it myself? Please help!!
    Product: Macbook Air (128 GB)
    Operating System: OSX Mavericks 10.9.4
Processor: 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics: Intel HD 5000                    -----------> Needs to be changed!!!
    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Thanks afterwards!   =D

    Hi.
Macbook Airs only handle integrated graphics card, and there is no slot on the Motherboard to add one. If you want a discrete graphics card, to use with professional software, you need to go towards an iMac, Mac Pro or 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina. If you do not want to buy a new machine, you could get an older second hand Macbook Pro with a discrete graphics card.
The Macbook air isn't built to use this kind of software.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    James

  • 4s microphone has always malfunctioned (people can't hear me) for first 10 seconds of outgoing phone calls. I've synched w healthy Macbook Pro, replaced SIM cards, replaced iPhone 4s, called Applecare (no mic issue admitted). OS problem?

4s microphone has malfunctioned on most outgoing calls for many months. People can't hear me for first 10 seconds of outgoing phone calls. I've synched w healthy Macbook Pro, replaced SIM cards, replaced iPhone 4s when Apple Store thought it was probably a hardware problem, called Applecare (no mic issue admitted). OS problem??? I think so! [Possible] good news: for the past 2 days, since updating to 5.1.1, no one has reported problems hearing me!
I'm concerned Applecare folks did not admit to me that so many other 4s users also has malfunctioning mics.

    Why would that even matter?
The device obviously has a hardware issue and is under warranty, take it to Apple for replacement and move on with life.  No reason to make things difficult.

  • Freezing Macbook Pro. Graphical glitches and occasional 3 tones on start up. Hardware test shows no errors. Is it RAM or a graphics card on the way out, or software?

Recently my MacBook Pro has been freezing and showing bad graphical glitches. Multiple restarts eventually fix it and a couple of times the three tones break, three tones break warning has occurred on start up. From what I can find this is usually a RAM error but after doing a hardware check I get the response all is OK. This still happens after the check and I am unsure what the problem could be. Can anyone help? Could it be a memory issue, a hard drive issue, Graphics card issue (drivers are up to date) or is something up with the software. I also have a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7 too and this is a problem that presents itself there too.

    Most likely to be RAM:
    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

I would suggest you take it to an Apple Store for a free diagnostic.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 2014 Top Spec - Premiere Pro CC Graphics Card Issue

    Hello,
For 12 months I have been having graphics card issues which all started on my 2011 MBP, which Apple replaced 12 months ago. I Then got a new shiny, 2013 highest end retina macbook pro from apple, in which after a couple of weeks had the exact same graphics issue. As soon as I start working in Premiere Pro with my 1080P DSLR footage, once the fans get up high, then the graphic colour hologram like start pooping on my screen. Now I got that retina replaced as I alerted apple about it, now they have given me the highest end 2014 model, and guess what? The problem is twice as bad.
I think it's definitely got something to do with the Apple software. It's weird though, because on the rare occasion, the graphic poop will show up on my screen when I am on Youtube (only once in a blue moon it does that) - it does it every single time 15-20 mins into editing with Premiere Pro, once the fans get hot. I can click on the graphics poop and it makes it disappear, which is weird, maybe that proves it software issue?
I don't know, but this problem has caused me to go through two of apples most powerful laptops, 60 phone calls to Apple, 1 investigation lodged to the Apple Engineers (the people who are above the Senior Apple Care Advisors) - Nothing seems to fix it, and I haven't been able to create any more intriguing films on my laptop because Premiere Pro CC just brings up all the graphics poop.

Thanks for the follow up information for my video card/graphics card question that came to mind out of curiosity.
I do not have Premiere Pro and am strictly and Elements Windows user. Otherwise I would look into this matter for you first hand. The place you want to be is in the Adobe Premiere Pro Forum, although, as you already mentioned, the screen display irregularities have appeared when Premiere Pro was not being used. Have you tried uninstalling Premiere Pro to determine if its removal from the computer resolves the screen display irregularities for whatever you are doing in the computer applications like iMovie? For that matter, do you see the problem in iMovies?
Just some thoughts to think about as you compose your inquiry for the Premiere Pro users in the Premiere Pro Forum.
    Best wishes

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro Safari/Graphics issue??

Hi. Below I've posted a picture of what I've been experiencing on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro that is running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.1).
Usually, my screen stays like that for a few seconds, then those little things go away. However, when I took the screenshot, my screen stayed like that for about 20 minutes. I've had this issue in both Safari and Firefox. Even updating to 10.7.1, this still happens.
What could possibly be wrong? Is it a bug with Lion or is my graphics card at fault?
I really appreciate your help! Thank you!!

    jodifromcinnaminson,
nope — one reason why the cost of Apple products in the US is low compared to prices in other countries is that the prices in other countries often include seller’s warranties which extend beyond the manufacturer’s warranty; that’s not the case in the US.
If you’re intent on purchasing no more Apple products because of how they’d handled the 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro defect, then I’d highly recommend writing a letter to Apple explaining exactly why you’ve made that decision.

  • Macbook Pro Retina - nVidia card does not work correctly

    Hi,
having a MacBook Pro Retina. It ran fine till yeasterday when I fired up a game which was laggy and it was running fine before. It took me several hours to find where the problem is and it seems to me that the nVidia dicrete card is not working. But strangely not working. I installed gfxCardStatus to see whether the card is being switched to run the game and it actually is. But the performance is the same as running it on an internal Intel. I took another test and downloaded CINEBENCH to see the differences and sadly the results are the same if I switch to nVidia or to Intel and run the benchmark.
Obviously something is not right here. It happened over night. Before it worked corectly. I do not remember installing something that day/night that could have broken it (in case it is a SW problem). Only one thing comes to my mind - Apple Java update. But I tried to uninstall it and got the same result. I did try to restart several times. But otherwise there is no visible flaw, e.g. flickering or black screen when swithech do nVidia - nothing. gfxCardStatus shows that the system switches the card and I notice no change. Only in heavy load it is obvious that it is slow (slower than it was).
Is there a way to see if the nVidia card is working? I suspect that even if the system is trying to switch to a discreet card it still runs on the Intel in reality. Any way how to distinguish this rather than to rely on gfxCardStatus? Any log that would make this clear? Any test I can run (Apple HW test shows "no problem detected")?
    Many thanks for hints.

To show what I am talkin about I did another test. I downloaded and ran LuxMark. There it is possible to test CPU and GPU separately on a same benchmark scene. FIrst I let the system switch to nvidia and did the test:
Then I manually switched to Intel/CPU in gfxCardStatus and also selected CPU in the LuxMark and did the same test. The result is:
You see? How it is possible that in OpenCL computation CPU with internal graphic card is even faster then the descreet one? This is what I am experiencing now and cannot figure out where the problem lies.
Would the Apple HW test discover a dead nvidia card? Because nothing shows that the card is dead but as you can see it is not performing as it should.
