Macbook pro 13" late 2011 too hot

I've been using my macbook for about 4 years in the same way with the same applications but recently I've noticed that it reaches very easily an high temperature and, consequently the fan works very hard draining my battery.
Analysing Istat pro I noticed that the temperature reaches 93° degree and more but looking up the processes it doesn't seem there is something wrong.
What do you suggest me? should I try to clean up the fans?
2 years ago I mounted the Crucial RAM update together with the 512gb ssd.
Thank you very much

Look at Activity Monitor set to ALL PROCESSES and CPU to display values from high to low.  Are there applications using a lot of resources?
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203184
93°c is not too hot if the CPU/GPU are being heavily taxed.
In what condition is your battery?  It is not unusual to have to replace a 4 year old battery.  They do not last forever.
Open the MBP and inspect the insides.  If there is dust and debris, clean it out.
Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro 17 Late 2011 vs Macbook Pro 13 2012

    Hey
I have a Macbook Pro 17 Late 2011 model, its works like charm but my onyl problem with it , its too big for me , i travel a lot and its not really good for portability. I use this mac mainly for coding and developing and playing WoW (in BootCamp) but i play nothing else. So my friend said he is willing to buy from me and i decide to get a new macbook pro but the 13" for portability and its also fair enough for coding but im afraid thats its not enough for playing WoW. My friend pay me 1800€ and i found a brand new Macbook Pro for 1050€ + 300€ (for 256gb ssd and 16gb ram) so its gonna be a fast machine but maybe still not enough for WoW. What should i do?

The 17" model is one of the last that supports Express/34.
Thunderbolt does offer more expansion options, but at additional cost.
Make sure the 13" model you get has built-in optical drive unless you don't use it.
Make sure any games you develop for support the graphics card of the machine you end up getting.  If they don't, don't expect them to magically work on your machine.
I typically have found the recommended graphics card is the only one that works.  Minimum graphics card may at random not work, unless you do no multitasking with many games.

  • Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 hard drive fails, how to replace hard drive?

    Hi!
I have a Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 (OS X Mountain Lion v 1.3.18 (352.4). I tried to install OS X Mavericks but it showed this error message:
"This disk has S.M.A.R.T. errors. This disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired. Back up as soon much data as possible and replace the disk."
The laptop was still doing fine so I didn't do anything. Then it started to act funny: iPhoto stopped working, hangs when I watch video streaming, and it started to run really slow. I only use the laptop's basic features- internet, watching movies, editing using iMovies so it's really strange for me that the hard drive failed all of a sudden.
I called Apple support and a kind fellow tried to troubleshoot it, thinking it was only a software problem. In the end, he said I need to bring my macbook to the service center and have the hard drive replaced. I know it will cost a lot so I want to replace the it myself.
    Here are my questions:
    1) Can this problem really be solved by just replacing the hard drive?
    2) Can I use SSD this time so my Macbook can run faster?
    3) What SSD is recommended for my late 2011 Macbook 13"?
    4) I don't have the installation disk, can I still install the OS X Mountain Lion? How?
I am looking for other sites as well but I hope this community could share some tips too.
    Thanks a lot!

I've switched out the hard drive on my Late 2011 model several times and I've never disconnected the battery cable.
In my "Opinion" it is not necessary to do that. Not sure if it is or not recommended by Apple.
    EDIT:
I just looked at my User Manual, PDF I downloaded from Apple, and there is no mention of disconnecting the battery.
Here's a link to the manual for my model.

  • Transcend 1TB SSD in MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2011)

    Hey Guys,
I just bought a Transcend SSD 1TB for my MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2011) with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
I got it for a good price but now I'm unsure if I could use it.
The SSD i bought is the TS1TSSD370. For more Info click HERE.
    My questions are:
    1. Is the SSD I bought compatible with my MacBook?
    2. Is it a good SSD to use with a MacBook?
    3. Can I use a 1TB SSD? Because on the Apple Specs Site for my MacBook Model it's doesn't say anything about a 1TB SSD.
    4. Do I have to consider anything special when using this SSD?
It would be really great if someone could help me out!
    Thanks in advance!
    Max

I use the Carbon Copy Cloner method as outlined by BobRz above.
I'll be installing another SSD (higher capacity) whenever it gets here (Dec 3-Jan. 03) and I'll install the new SSD in my MacBook Pro first and then using my old SSD in an enclosure to transfer data.
I've had my current internal SSD in my Mac since April of 2012 and my 16GB of RAM since about May of 2012. I've a Crucial SSD (soon, two!) and use Crucial RAM, too.
You may want to take a peek at my user tip - Ugrading Your MacBook Pro with a Solid State Drive. It's a bit dated (I'll be udating it pretty soon) but should give you a good start. Currently, I'm recommending Samsung 840 Pros (NOT EVO) and the Crucial M500 series.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Macbook Pro 15 "(late 2011) failure of the graph?

I have a Macbook Pro 15 "late 2011. Anyway, yesterday suddenly working with photoshop choppy with many stripes screen mode interference stayed. Thing goes off and no longer gray top with window apple and can distinguish some weird lines in the background.'ve noticed that much heated and the fans spinning at maximum causing a lot of noise, but very exaggerated even going to burn and thought it is the graphics card. Des then ever Very few, I get to open the OS but asking him to do something that required a bit of thinking and resources are left hanging and computer exorbitantly warm after a while of being on, with fans the most.
I report and I've seen these Google Apple Macbooks Pro have had problems with this model, which came with the faulty graphics card and there are many cases like mine the net.
I've led the service and have told me it's the graphics card and ask me € 650 to change the motherboard and the graphics card is integrated into it.
Because there are some times reaching to open the operating system and some not? If the graphics card failure should never be opened or seen anything on the screen ...
Because if the graphics card fails the computer so hot? Something does not look clear or logical in this ...
I was very happy with the laptop and Apple products even recommending their products worldwide. But now I feel ripped off by Apple, very unhappy and never'll buy an Apple product and will recommend to anyone else. I think if a laptop goes with any defective part must be arranged at no cost by the consumer no longer has warranty though. If your products are of such quality that do you find such a product to market and not requite the damage? I thought Apple products were of high quality and durability ...
The question is how Apple leaves the market one produxto flaws and is not responsible?
I would like a response from the company
    Actually, I'm very disappointed.

noice T greetings:  Your comment suggests that you have had  less than satisfactory results in dealing with the staff at the Genius Bar.  I am disappointed to hear that.  I on the other hand have found them to be good to excellent for the most part (yes I do recall a less than satisfactory Genius).  I think ffmcollins' problem is better addressed at an Apple Store than at Best Buy.
    Ciao.

  • I have a macbook pro md318 late 2011 i want to know can i change hard drive from 500GB to 2TB????

i have a macbook pro md318 late 2011 i want to know can i change hard drive from 500GB to 2TB????

    Tbh,  I really wouldn't bother.
I may get shot down here, but I like having storage centralised, backed up etc, so I would use the internal storage for the day to day stuff, and anything more dated, and large, then dump it on an external, with backup.
I've heard some horror stories about larger capacity drives getting over hot, and failing in some machines. Not macs particularly though.

  • What is the max memory allowed on a macbook pro 15" (late 2011), and what speed is the max speed allowed?

    Hello,
I own a Macbook Pro 15" (late 2011) and I would like to upgrade the memory. I want to go with two 8gb sticks but if the motherboard only supports 8gb then I will have to stick with 8gb. Also, the ram that I have in currently, which is the 4gb that came with the mac, is 1333 Mz. Would I be able to upgrade to 1600 Mz on this laptop?

Max is 16 GBs. Do not attempt to use memory with specs that differ from those required by your hardware.
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

  • MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 Problems with iMac 27" Late 2009 TDM

    Hi,
I just got problems with my iMac 27" Late 2009 (Mini-DisplayPort) and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Thunderbolt).
When I try to use my iMac as external monitor for my MacBook, there are massive glitches and graphical bugs on my second screen.
I bought a MDP-to-MDP wire from Belkin which works perfect on other computers.
    I tried these things:
    - Disconnected MagSafe from MacBook + unplugged all USB devices + switched graphics to discrete.
    - Shut down all computers ... then booted MBP, iMac and triggered CMD+F2
    - SMC, PRAM reset on both devices
    The cable works, because:
17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 works perfectly on my iMac screen with my Belkin wire!
I connected my MacBook Pro 15" to a 27" Cinema Display and it works flawless.
After that I plugged it out and tested it again with my iMac screen -> suddenly it works.
Retriggering CMD+F2 or replugging breaks it again with massive bugs.
The MacBook Pro 17" is on 10.7.2, 15" is on 10.7.3, but I also tried to trigger dual screen in 10.7.0 setup with the same issue.
Maybe its a problem with the internal 6750M of my MacBook Pro 15"?
The 6770M of the 17" is working well.
    Sample Video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_pgc52syes
All updates/firmware updates of iMac and MacBook Pro are installed.
    Any solutions?
    Greets,
    Kai

  • Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011) - High Definition Audio Device - Code 10

Hi, i installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit via Boot Camp on my new Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011). Driver Disk was installed, but the "High Definition Audio Device" couldn't be started. Status is Code 10. Normal Cirrus Logic Audio is working. Any advice, how this could be fixed? Would be nice, to have audio over the Mini-Displayport HDMI Adapter on Windows as well (Works perfectly with Lion).
    Thanks,

  • I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

I have the new MacBook Pro from late 2011. "the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.
    Here is a link.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • How long to boot MacBook pro 13" late 2011?

It takes 1 minute 30 seconds to startup my macbook pro 13" late 2011 (2.4ghz i5 processor, 4GB RAM)
This seems like a long time? I have Microsoft Office and Photoshop installed, will this slow it down?
    Thanks!

if you have a normal hard drive installed - it usually takes a minute to desktop when you power up.
check your login items to see what's loading when you first power up your Macbook.
you can also go to disk utility and verify your disk permissions - repair them if errors are found then restart your Macbook.
see if that helps your booting time.
    good luck

i have macbook pro 13 late 2011.  efi 2.7 not see on software update and if download from site say in not compatible. why?

Because your MBP does not require it.

  • Macbook pro 13 late 2011 turns on but no display and light

Hi i have got macbook pro 13" late 2011 which turns on and i can hear the chime but there is no display and ligh in the screen its completely blank. Anyone had this problem and how did u solve this ?

Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD and running Disk Utility and checking to see if the HD needs repairs?
Restart holding Command + r and at the recovery screen select Disk Utility. Then select Macintosh HD and click  on 'repair disk'. If anything gets altered click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Restart as normal from the Apple menu. More info here about the Recovery HD:

  • Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011) Bottom Plate Bulging

    Hello there,
I own a Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011). I have had it for sometime now.
I noticed that the bottom plate (the piece of aluminum that can be removed) is slightly loose in the front. There is a slight retreat when I press down on it. This is not happening to my newer Late 2013 15" Macbook Pro.
I heard that this can be caused by a swelling battery?! My battery has around 350 cycles on it.
Should I be concerned? Is it necessary to take it to an Apple Store and have them take a look at it??
Thanks for your answers in advance.

That could be the case. It wouldn't hurt to have them evaluate it at an Apple Store as the appointment is free.

  • MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011, 16GB RAM and Apple Premium Service Center

    Hello all,
My dad has a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011, it came with a 4GB RAM. When he got Parallels and installed Windows 8, 4GB RAM were not enough to even deal with Safari so he had to buy 16GB RAM from Cruical. Today when he went to Apple Premium Service Center here in Qatar (51 East) they refused to install the x2 8GB RAM and only installed one of them. They kept warning my dad that installing the whole 16GB can cause issues with the MacBook Pro HDD and can make it go faulty. I wanted to ask if installing RAMs can pose the HDD life to any danger. Because my dad uses his Mac for work and wouldn't like to lose any of his files against small additional speed.
    Thanks.

its very easy to do, here are step by step instructions with photos
