Hello!
I bought my macbook pro in the last month.
Since then, the MBP crashes without warning. The keyboard and the mouse dont respond.
There is a way to solve these problems?
Thanks!!

Macbook Pro Caps Lock. how to relieve? i cant small caps letter use?

I think I have a different problem, but it shares some similar features.
I just got my MBP back from repair for a dead trackpad/keyboard.
Things work mostly peachy now, but I noticed that the caps lock feature doesn't work. The caps lock light does come on on both my built-in and external keyboards, but neither produces CAPS when used.
Searching for this topic on the 'net is difficult nowadays due to a different issue on the new MBP swamping most older discussions.
In any case, the feature itself is gone-the hardware seems to be working properly. It even gives me the little caps lock warning if I press the caps lock key on the login screen. However, no capital letters are ever produced with them.
    Strange.

  • MacBook Pro constantly locks up, any ideas?

My MacBook Pro will lock up for no apparent reason at any time, either while in an application or just moving around within the desktop/dock.  I've tried reinstalling the OS (Snow Leopard) per the recommendations of the local Genius Bar and that seemed to work for a few days but it's doing it again.  Anyone experience this or know of a fix?

/Library/Preferences - trash the finder plist file.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 empty the trash and restart your computer.
I've tried reinstalling the OS (Snow Leopard)
Please correct your system information as you confirmed you are still using "Mac OS X (10.4.10)"

  • New MacBook Pro, FileVault Locked in Perpetual Encryption, Kills Battery

I have a brand new (well, it's about 2 weeks old now) MacBook Pro (2.8 i7, 1 TB, 16 GB, Iris Pro 1536 MB). Love it.
When I initially set up this device after removing it from its box, I opted to enable FileVault encryption.
Since then, however, FileVault has been unable to complete the operation. It seems to be locked in a routine of perpetual encryption, despite the fact it reports it's doing nothing at all.
Here's what I see in the FileVault panel of System Preferences, for example:
Note the progress bar. It reads "Connect power adapter to resume encryption." This message remains regardless of whether or not the power adapter is connected.
If I click the "Turn Off FileVault…" button, I get:
So I'm in a bit of a catch 22: I can't turn it off until it's done, but it'll never be done because it's waiting for the power adapter to be plugged in, but it never recognizes when the power adapter is plugged in.
This wouldn't be so bad except for one problem: it's doing something in the background that's absolutely killing my battery. Whenever I unplug my power adapter, "Converting to FileVault" is always displayed under the "Apps Using Significant Energy" section of the battery menu.
Presumably as a result of this, I never get more than about 4 hours of battery life with this device, even with the screen fully dimmed and when just doing basic web browsing. Interestingly, under the "Energy" pane of Activity Monitor, there is no line item for any FileVault related activity.
One final note. I've read that Apple puts SSDs in MacBooks from different manufacturers. The drive in my device is identified as, "APPLE SSD SM1024F Media." The "SM" from what I understand denotes that I have a Samsung SSD in my MacBook. I'm not sure if there are issues related to Samsung drives, but it would be a variable in this situation.
I've contacted AppleCare about this and they are stumped, though they acknowledge it's a recognized problem that is being investigated. I'm on a list of people to be notified of a fix, but I have the feeling sorting this out is a low priority at Apple.
So I figured I'd reach our here in the community with a few questions:
Anyone else had this problem and have a fix?
Is this hardware related, or just software?
Do you think a basic nuke and pave of the device will make this problem go away?
    Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for reading. I look forward to hearing back on any thoughts anyone might have.

I finally got sick of the battery being chewed up in less than 3 hours, even with the lid closed, and no user-facing apps running. Yesterday I backed up all my files, erased the hard drive and reinstalled Yosemite.
During set up I opted to try FileVault again. Fortunately, it was successful this time, though it did take about an hour to complete the encryption process. I left the machine alone during that time and just let it perform that one function.
So if you have the problem I describe here, Apple doesn't seem interested in resolving the matter and you're only option is probably a full nuke and pave of your hard drive. It's a lot of work, but it'll probably save your battery in the long run.

  • Is the MacBook Pro Retina Lock Bracket with wedge technology sold by matchlocks a good lock?

I'm looking for a good cable lock option for my macbook pro 13 w/ retina display. Has anyone tried the wedge lock sold by maclocks?

I have this problem on the lower third with Mavericks.  Sometimes the computer just stays black when I leave it on battery and it goes to sleep.  It won't wake up until I hold the power button down for a long time and it restarts.  If I close the lid, then reopen later I get the artifacts you show here, but only on the lower third.  I do not get them EVER if the computer isn't CLOSED to sleep.  Of course when walking from one room to another (think in terms of large hotel where this could be a 15 minute walk) I don't want to shut it off but I don't want to carry it open either.  THis is a problem.  I didn't have this problem before mavricks.  I'm on the original MBPr which I purchased Jan 2013.  Otherwise it's been flawless.  Just one dead pixel cluster and the battery life is gradually decreasing.

  • Lost MacBook Pro showing locked in find my iPhone.

I recently discovered that we had lost our MacBook pro.  We are not sure of the exact lost date.  When we checked today on Find My iPhone app it says it was locked on March 26th.  Does this mean if someone found it they have locked it?  How can we track the last location of it?
    Thank you

This sounds silly, but while in Find My iPhone, click on the Play Sound button.  Hopefully you will hear it beeping under the sofa.
    Have a nice day.

  • After Mavericks Upgrade MacBook Pro Keeps Locking Up?

    Hello everyone,
After a smooth and easy upgrade to Mavericks my main work MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012, keeps locking up, I sen a few other posts on here related to Google Chrome, not sure if my issues are related to Chrome or not, but I do use Chrome as my main default browser and have it open all day.  Not sure where to start to find out what may be the root of the issue, any help would be great, thanks.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Macbook pro keeps locking up

Need Help.  My Macbook Pro has just started locking up or running really slow.  Don't know what or how to check what casusing this.
Need to know what is running that could be doing this or how to scan the hardrive.  I use Mackeeper, but it's not finding anything.  The only other thing that I have done recently is contect to an office server and everything has gone south since then.

This first thing that I would do is remove MacKeeper - it's shoddy, shady malware.
See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3027 and How to uninstall MacKeeper.
I'm not saying that MacKeeper is the source of all your problems, but it's a good place to start in diagnosing what is wrong.

  • Macbook pro freezing/locking up??

I have a macbook pro 15 inch that I got in November of 2011, so it is relatively new. Recently, it has started locking up/freezing with the pinwheel coming up, so that i have to force quit whatever application I'm using, which for the most part has been safari. I also got a notification that my computer doesn't have enough RAM to support everything that is running, which is strange because I just upgraded my memory and it was showing around 5 GB free when this happened. Is there anything I can do to find out what is causing this/fix it?

RAM is physical memory. Space on a hard drive is "storage", not "memory." In your case try this:
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
This will not erase the hard drive.

  • ICloud returns reply : your macbook pro is locked

hi my macbookpro laptop was stolen last week, there was icloud logged in on it. I remote lock it from my pc on the same day. today morning i got a message on my mail that "your macpro has been locked at 11:30pm on august 21-2012 with the following message "xxxxxxxxx"". (the message was my email address).
Is there any chance to know from where this mac has been logged in, like any ip address from where i got this message from, or on which IP they logged in.
I hope somebody connected this to a wired network with internet connectivity...but now on icloud my macbook is showing offline
Please reply if we can find the IP with that email which i receive.

I afraid email doesn't provide ip address.  There are no trace of the information that you're after, as emails are sent by smtp server and the server address won't be the ip address you are after.  I wonder if the iCloud people can provide us these relevant information to our stolen mac (btw, my mac is missing at the moment, too).  Any idea anyone, iCloud genius???

  • Macbook Pro A1212 Locking UP

    Hello all
My MBP has been good to me for a while. Under my applecare I had an HDD replaced, and a Top Case replaced. And I've ben satisfied with everything. Now that I'm out of Applecare my Optical Drive has crapped out and now the bigger issue, the Lock Ups.
There's no Rhyme or Reason to them either. No specific programs open. No specific tasks being done. No Noises, Messages or Kernal Panics. It just Locks. And I need to do a Hard Reboot. I Ran TechTools. Clean. I ran Dick Utility for Permissions. Clean. And nothing in the logs are relevant. I did the Power Reset (or whatever it's called when you unplug it, pop the batter out and hold the power button), I did the Triple PRAM reset, and I even loaded it in Safe Mode. Still Will Lock
What I think is the weirdest is how it can be inconsistent. I can go for 3-4 days without a problem. Then out of nowhere 3-4 days with nothing but problems. I'm starting to lose my mind here. I almost wouldn't care if there was some consistency so I'd know what to avoid or what to fix.
And I'd love to try a Disk repair, but of course my Superdrive has crapped out, and cant read the recovery disk. I guess if all else fails I can order a New Replacement drive for the 50-100 (or whatever it is) and fix it. But if it's something I can fix before having to do that would be Great.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Chris.

    Ahemmm.
I ran it and it seemed stalled. So I figured cool, looks like it found something and it's fixing it. So I go grab a drink and come back too..... "** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK"
Well, as the KB article says, fsck may be able to identify and repair issues. Being able to run Repair Disk in DU or Disk Warrior or TechToolPro is the "right" way to do it. Still, because fsck didn't find anything, that does reduce the odds that it's directory damage.
Anyother ideas? other then chucking the Thing out of the window? lol
Hmmm, if you get to that stage, let me know, and I'll be waiting under the window for Airborne Delivery.
What's odds of finding/begging/borrowing/buying the correct install disc, one of the utilities mentioned above, or a retail install disc?
EDIT: Oops, my bad, I should have said another similar vintage Mac or external bootable optical drive.
