MacBook Pro 13" makes crackling noise

My MB Pro that I got this year just began making a crackling noise last night when I touch the plastic port on the hinges and when I adjust the screen back and forth it makes that noise aswell. I just wanted to know do I need to be worried that it's a major problem or can I look past it? Any damage on my MB Pro in the long run due to the plastic part of the hinge?
Thank you.

Take advantage of your warranty and have Apple check it.
Ciao.

why my macbook pro making lot of noise inside. Is it something to do my shutting down. I usually shut down my system in every week.
Can anybody provide any solution on this.

What kind of noise and when?  There are fans inside that run at various noise levels keeping things at the right temperature.  There is a hard drive, unless you have SSD, that can make noise when the stepping motor moves the track arm.  There is an optical drive that makes noise at startup.
There are noises when you move the MBP and the motion sensor engages.

  • Does anyone else's MacBook Pro i5 make a loud harddrive disk startup sound?

Whenever I boot up my MacBook Pro, It makes a loud disk startup sound. Does it happen to anyone else?

I would take it in if the start up sound is different than the other Macbooks you've had.
Too few people here seem to have a new i5 yet and if its a big problem you want
it seen by Apple ASAP if it needs a replacement laptop.
    thats what I would do.

  • My Macbook Pro with Remakes funny noise when connected to power supply cable and no other response. The best description of the sound I can give is the buz the computer makes on startup. Sound goes on and off while connected

I am new to the Macbook community. I own this Macbook since 10/2012.
My Macbook Pro 15 with Retina Display suddenly totally stopped responding. No display, no activity on keyboard. When I connect power supply cable, the Mac makes a noise as if it is starting up, but this lasts a second and this sound comes and goes the whole time the power cable is connected.
    Any advice?

  • Is it normal for the MacBook Pro to make noises when I put it to sleep?

I apologize for posting a new question so soon, but I wanted to get my technical problems with my MacBook Pro sorted out before I go back to school.
I'm worried about this one thing that happens when my MacBook Pro goes to sleep. After I close the laptop and it goes into "sleep mode" every few minutes or so it makes this noise like it keeps on turning on then going back to sleep, turning on then going back to sleep. It never did this before. Does anyone else hear these weird noises when it's in sleep mode?
For some reason it does not make these noises when I press the power button, and then press sleep. So this confuses me.

I have the same problem after just having my logic board replaced.

  • How much noise should a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" make?

    Hello support community,
I am writing for your help concerning the noise level of my MacBook Pro 13". It is the entry level Mac, with the i5. My fan's are idling at 2000 rpm which I have been told is normal but I can hear them? When compared to my girlfriend's late 2010 MacBook, I can hear my fans, but I can't hear hers? Could anyone with the same model let me know if this is normal or I should visit an Apple Store.
    Regards

    Hi cjftw,
Did you solve your problem yet ?
I was wondering if the noise wasn't coming from the hard drive (when you put you ear on the right part near the track pad you can clearly hear this "fan" noise which actually comes form the hard drive) The actual fan in MBP is under the keyboard and located around the key "7" "8" "F7" "F8".
I seem to have the same issue as yours. My MBP is a late 2011 and my hard drive is a stock 750GB Toshiba.

  • Mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro emits high-frequency noise when engaged for sound

Recently I noticed that when the MacBook Pro activates the sound output device for built-in speakers, a high-pitched whine or noise begins, and does not stop until the card deactivates again.
The sound is not proportional to brightness, hard drive activity, CPU load, or anything else I've been able to try, except for sound output. When I plug in headphones it cuts out when the sound transfers to the headphones (it's on the same slight delay that the sound change is on). This MBP leads a relatively tame life, although it does travel sometimes. I can't figure out what would have started this sound, but I noticed it start within the last month, and I have confirmed that others hear it in the same quiet environment as I hear it in.

Give it two or three more weeks to get below 80% and stay there, then take it to an Apple Store for testing. As long as it's still above 80%, it's going to be considered "within spec," so make sure it's below 80% when you take it in.

  • Macbook pro fan making loud noises and going really fast. Now the fan doesn't work at all and my computer gets extremely hot almost instantly. Is there a way to fix it without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

I've had my Macbook pro for about 3 1/2 years now. It has worked great until recently. A few months ago I noticed that the fan would always run really fast when I was doing simple tasks. After a few weeks/months, the fan was still really fast but it also started to make these loud noises. Now, it only occasionally makes the loud noise if I move my computer after its been stationary for a while. The fan no longer works at all and my computer gets exceptionally hot almost instantly when I turn it on. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

You can try a SMC reset:

  • Why everytime i charge my macbook, my macbook machine always make big noise and at the bottom of my macbook is so hot...

can anyone tell me what's going with my macbook pro or my macbook's charger. i notice these couple days, everytime i use my macbook pro either light or heavy using with charger on the machine/macbook on the bottom is so hot and make very heavy noise. and after 10 minutes, the body of the charger is also become so hot. can anyone tell or fix the problem please...

**If you only hear it in a quiet room, that is normal.
    noisy fan reasons:
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring, scraping or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics (typical, all is OK)
    A and D are normal
    B and C are not.
Do you use it in a dusty area or where there is a lot of pet fuzz?   Laptop fans act like little vacuum cleaners and take in dust etc. from the ambient air around them.
If B and C continue for a long time (B is just a cleaning), they eventually cause the fan to either seize and/or die.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Processor Cooling Noise

    Hello there.
Yesterday I have notice really odd sound coming out of my MBP Retina Mid-late 2012.
I cannot hear much when I am making any kind of small noise like typing or anything like that... But I can hear it when I put my ear closer to the display or to the keyboard...
I thought it's nothing but that noise/sound shouldn't be there. It comes out of processor coolers even tho there's no any hard processor actions active!
I understand that processor makes quite much of a fan sound when it uses all cores, but this sound never were there.
However even before this happend, 3 months ago my trackpad started making noises too. I've done a little research about that cracky noise and it is all about screw that should be tighten.
But, since I am from Serbia I went into service as I have guarantee on the product and they have literraly told me this:
"We don't want to open new Macbook Pro Retina if it works properly. That sound it makes is completely normal. (which is not). And use the mouse if trackpad irritates you."
Quite great service over here ahahaha. I have 1 year guarantee in USA as well, but I just have no ideas how to ship my laptop to them.
Maybe it's nothing but maybe I could also fix it by my self and lose guarantee, but at least it would be fixed ?
Thanks in advance. The noise is so irritating, especially now the one from processor coolers

It's probably a bad fan, call Applecare and they should be able to help you set up sending the mac in for repair.

  • Broken Macbook Pro/charger. Popping noise while charging.

I've got the latest Macbook Pro, and while it was charging I heard a popping noise from what I'm pretty sure was the charging port while it was connected. I didn't think anything of it at first, but then I found that my charger wasn't working. The light was not lit on the charger and my laptop didn't recognize that it was connected.
I do not have another charger so I don't know if it is my charger or laptop that is broken yet, but does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
    Thanks for your help!

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. I assume it is still in warranty.

  • New macbook pro retina 13 ssd noise

two days old macbook pro retina 13" mid 2014 with 128 gb ssd makes strange buzzing whining noise from q and w area in keyboard.this sound is coming when i boot up or while transfering files.
i started black magic disk speed test and i recorded this noise.i can hear this noise in quite room from 30 cm (11") distance of macbook.
    https://clyp.it/1xaqsbqt?token=d775285c8e9393cc7e8d201209263f3f
    is this noise normal?

SSDs should not be making any noise.  More likely it is the fan.
If the MBP is two days old, bring it back and have it fixed.  If you purchased it from Apple, then you have the option of a refund or an exchange in the first 14 days of ownership.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro Emiting hifrequenchirp, buzz noise, how ever you like to call it

    Hello friends!
when the battery of my macbook pro is fully loaded it emits a hi-frequent noise from the left where the magsafe connector is connected.
The sound is also hearable in batterymodus, but very soft.
Disabeling one CPU stops the noise.
Is it normal that the left fan is continously running at slow speed and produce a hearable blowing sound which is slightly louder than the hdd?
I got it in december last year .
    Anyone noticed the same ?
That buzz is very annoying ....
    Best wishes
    Marc

Some people are more sensitive to these noises than others. I for one have noted similar noises on my Powerbook G4. Some noises are normal, others are not. Your best be is to keep your data backed up in case the noise turns out to be an out of sync hard drive, or a fan that is so out of sync it doesn't cool your hard drive enough. Run the hardware test that came with your machine and check the firmware updates to make sure your firmware is up to date. If neither is applicable, you can still call AppleCare and find out if they have a place where you can go that a technician can listen to the noise and find out if it is normal. I find many an Apple retail store are so noisy from the iTunes music, that I wouldn't believe that a technician could hear it there because it takes me a good half hour before my full hearing is restored after leaving the store.

  • How to copy 5 minhome video DVD clip on to Macbook Pro than make a DVD cop

    ???
Can not figure out how do take the DVD R which plays fine and load to my macbook pro hard drive...(computer is brand new) than want to make copies of the clip on blank DVDs with no editing... just a straight copy.
    Thanks

    knbcpab,
Is this a mini DVD-R, burned directly in a camcorder? If it is, Do Not Attempt To Put It In Your Macbook Pro's Optical Drive!!!.
Mini disks cannot be read by your Superdrive, and they will get stuck in it, perhaps damaging it in the process. Apple will not cover any such damage.
Disk Utility will image, then produce as many copies as you like. But, doing so with a mini disk will require that you use an external, tray-loading drive capable of handling the mini disk. Of course, you can use your Superdrive as long as the disk is full-sized. With the disk mounted, select it in Disk Utility and click the "New Image" icon in the Toolbar. You need to create a "DVD/CD Master" image.

  • Does anyone have a new MacBook Pro that makes a buzzing sound on startup?

My new (60 days) MacBook Pro makes a buzzing sound on startup- does anyone else have this issue? Thanks!

    Keep at the Genius Bar.
For one, you have a default 1 year warranty, which you do not want to let expire.
For another, that chine is a critical part of the system, that for some is an annoyance but at least it sticks around.
At some point, they have to either fix it or give you another (at least in my opinion they will eventually have to give me on that chimes).
Make a very good clone before you go back in.  CarbonCopyClone ($40 download).  You will need to clone it back onto a new system eventually, I suspect.
