jpmarkques post is a good start point, after folling his directions, you can try detect displays. Also try different rsolution and refresh rates.
Most of the projectors I have used support a 1024X768 res.
Youcan also try a pram reset if it still does not detect.
Leave theproctor connected and powered up, power down the MBP.
Power back up the MBP and hold the following keys before you hear the start up chime:
Option, command, P,R (no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times.

    Hi All,

    Hi Rhoda123!
It sounds like you may need to reset a part of your system that deals with your video card, and this is commonly known as PRAM. We have an article that talks about the functioning of this part of your computer and how to reset it, which can be found here:
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Specifically, this section will probably be the most relevant to resolving your issue:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • Can't connect Macbook Pro Retina to Dell P2715q 4k Monitor

I received a new Dell 4k P2715q monitor on Friday.  It came with a mini DP to DP cable which I immediately hooked into the Thunderbolt port on my 15-inch, Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina.  It worked beautifully on Friday all through the day.  Was very happy with my purchase.
Took the laptop home over the weekend and brought it back today.... plugged into my thunderbolt port again and nothing.... Go HDMI to the monitor's HDMI and it works but only up to 1080p in 30hz which is no good.  So the monitor still seems to be working but the Macbook won't recognize the monitor through the Thunderbolt (mini DP) port.
Any thoughts?  Talked to Dell support which was worthless except to verify that the monitor didn't get fried over the weekend and also talked to Apple who suspected that it was maybe the mini DP cord that Dell sent with the monitor.  I can't believe that a cable went faulty over a weekend when no one else was in my office.....
    Thoughts?  Thanks ahead of time!

  • Connecting MacBook Pro to a dell monitor

Having a little dilemma trying to figure out how to connect a dell monitor to my MacBook Pro. (Mid 2012)   Dell monitor has a dvi-d connection. Not sure which apple connector I need and if I need to purchase a double ended male male dvi-d cable. Help!

    Hi,
I am sure your problem must have been sorted out by now, but for all current and future buyers for the dell U2414H and having an apple computing device, mac, macbook, pro etc, the monitor works perfectly out of the box when I connected with a mini DP(thunderbolt port) to HDMI output (U2414H), it just ran out of the box, without any issues, it even worked simply for my bootcamp windows. So no need to fret before purchasing one, simply go ahead and get it, it's the Monitor with most appealing edge giving you only a screen to view at, I was also considering between the U2412M and the U2414H, I think I've made a great choice.
    Cheers,

  • A New Macbook pro with a Dell ST2310 23in. Full HD Monitor

I have a new macbook pro hooked up to a dell Full HD monitor using mini display port to VGA connection. And the fonts on are not that crisp. They are a little jagged. The res is set at 1920x1080, 60.0Hz. Is there something I can do to fix this? I've been on dells site and there is not much support for mac users.
    thanks
    Karen

Things would be working better from a digital connection. But if you must use VGA, check the Dell site or the user manual for how to "tune" the display. There is usually an AUTO adjust shortcut for this through one of the front panel buttons.

  • Display my Macbook Pro to my Dell Monitor?

Hi, I have a brand new MacBook Pro 15' and I bought a Dell monitor so that I can extend my screen. I bought an HDMI/HDMI cable to connect the two. My macbook recognizes the cable, but the Dell monitor stays black and doesn't register that the two are connected. Does anyone have a solution to this? Do I need to get an adaptor of some sort or just change some display settings? (I also have a display port cable, but I didn't know what to do with that. Maybe it's useful?) Thanks!!

  • How do i connect my macbook pro with my dell desktop.

I'm trying to install the software for my Cannon MX452 printer on my macbook pro and  I've lost my instructions that came with the printer.

The software on your PC won't run on a Mac, if that's what you have in mind. Just go here and download the Mac versions:

  • Just went to MacBook Pro from a Dell PC. Is Aperture 3 like Photoshop Elements?

Just went to a MacBookPro from a Dell PC. Have used Photoshop Elements for a long time. Does Aperture 3 operate like Photoshop Elements? Which does the best job of photograp editing?

well, like Terence said above, Elements is a pixel-level editor.  you have brush tools, text tools, erasers, etc.  you can manipulate the image on a pixel-by-pixel basis.  you can draw shapes on top of the photo, add text, and on and on.
there are no tools for doing that sort of thing in Aperture.  Aperture is a tool that's main strength comes in organizing photos into projects and albums. you can add keywords, edit metadata like copyright fields, and rank them with 0-5 stars.  from there you can make global adjustments like contrast, brightness, and saturation to an image.  you can even easily copy a set of preferred adjustments onto an entire selection of photos, easing the work of giving an entire album a certain look.  many of the adjustments can be masked as well, so that the adjustment only applies to certain areas of the image (making the sky darker in a landscape, for instance).
but if you wanted to add a red border to a photo you can't do that.  want to add some text with a fancy outline and a drop shadow?  no dice.
however, if you really want to do something like that to a given photo within Aperture, you can choose edit the photo with Photoshop Elements.  Aperture makes a new version of the file and opens it in Photoshop Elements.  From there you can make your changes, add text, borders, brush strokes, composite in another photo, etc.  then save your new file and within the Aperture library, you now have two versions of that file.

You may need the Dual Link DVI adapter as most 30" displays need that to work correctly.
Doesn't full digital HDMI give enough bandwidth, provided you get good enough cable?
OP, this would be the least expensive option: you only need to purchase an extra HDMI to HDMI of adequate length to get the two talking. With the other two options you need an adapter dongle too.

  • Hi, I was wondering if my early 2013 macbook pro w/ retina display is compatible with a Dell 24" S2440L monitor. If so, will a hdmi to hdmi connection work or do I have to buy a thunderbolt extension.

I was just wondering if my macbook could use the Dell as an external monitor and how I should connect it with out making mistakes.

You can just use an HDMI cable to connect your MacBook Pro to the Dell Display.
