MacBook Pro 13" Retina 2013 always waking up when lid is closed.
When I used "pmset -g log" i see "Total Sleep/Wakes since boot at 11/15/13, 9:26:46 PM PST :449"
This happens sometimes, i noticed the most recent time this happened when I unplugged the charger while the lid is closed. I left it for a few hours and i realized the computer was hot. Then i checked the logs and saw the above.

How can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?
how can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?
If the machine is asleep, lid closed, and you plug in to an external monitor and an external USB keyboard, the machine will wake, anbd reconfigure the screen resolution for the external monitor, Once it has made this configuration change, you can open the lid and it will continue to address only the external monitor. At least that's how my early MacBook Pro unibody 13" works. It seems to run a bit cooler this way. It gets quite toasty with the lid closed while doing anything demanding and you are more likely to hear the fan come on. I have not seen any temps that would cause alarm, but I do get a high speed (6000 rpm), noisy fan sometimes with the lid closed, .
If you operate in the open-lid, external monitor only mode, if you deactivate the monitor for any reason, when it reactivates it will be running both screens, with all the navigation hassles this entails, so I generally set it not to deactivate the screen when in this mode.
Thus I agree with those who say that some of the cooling air is drawn in around the keyboard, the difference in cooling performance is observable. If you activate istat pro, get the computer hot running in clamshell mode, and open the lid, you can watch the CPU temp drop by a few degrees C within a couple minutes. It isn't a huge difference, but enough the lower the fan speeds. -
Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC crash on my MacBook Pro 15" Retina (2013)
I have a Mac Pro 12-Core (Late 2013) and a MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013). While there is no problem with the Adobe Creative Cloud products on the Mac Pro, I can't work with Photoshop and Illustrator on the MacBook Pro, cause it always tells me "undefined error" or that I wouldn't have the write-rights for the hard drive or file, even when there's no file opened. Illustrator crashes constantly while starting the program.
I tried to do a new installation by de-installing the programs including cloud desktop program with the Adobe de-installers. Didn't help at all. I tried to delete the programs including all hidden files manually, but it didn't work. After the new installation of the programs I still get the same error information. What else can I do? Other Non-Adobe programs like Final Cut, QuarkXpress aso work without problems and I really don't want to do a new setup on my Mac just because of the Adobe problem.
So, who can help me? What can I do to solve the problem?

MacBook Pro 15" Retina 2013 slow down
Hi Apple Support Experts,
My almost new MacBook, bought in november, suddenly started to work slower and lost the flow of the OSX. I have been using same MacBook with worse spec (8GB and less memory) for a year before that without any problem when it was stolen, and after budying a new one this happened. I dont know why it is so, because I dont use many programs, only the ones for editing, like Indesign, Photoshop, Maya, Autodesk, Sketchup and documentation and web browsing, and I used it all in my previous mac and it worked just fine. I would like to find out why this is happening, I run the avast! to check for malware, run the repair of the disk, cleared as much info as possible, dont use Java nor Chrome, nor any of the stupid CleanMyMac. I check all of the downloads I make, but there was one time when a friend installed me cracked versions of some programs, which I then uninistalled. The only thing is that I dont usually shut down my laptop, but put it to sleep, I dont know if its an issue.
Please if possible, advice me what to do, because I am desperate now to find out what is the problem, as this had never happened to me before, and I need my fast-running-amazing machine to run slick and smooth for work and commissions.
Also I run this command at the Terminal,
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|find tok|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
And thats what I got in txt file:
Jan 14 00:26:20 Sofyas-MacBook-Pro kernel[0] <Debug>: nspace-handler-unblock: did not find token 143571
Thank you, here are EtreCheck deatils:

0 B Page-outsHi Sophia... your MacBook Pro with an i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD should be a real screamer!
But your SSD is completely full. You have about 240 GB of programs and data on the drive, plus about 280 GB of Time Machine local backups, which is about the size of your 512 GB SSD.
So you need to turn off Time Machine (in System Preferences); that should delete the local backups on your SSD.
The recommended backup approach is not to rely on your MacBook's internal drive (if your MacBook is lost or stolen, your backup is now gone!), but use an external USB drive for Time Machine backups. Even better, a Time Capsule (I'll explain that in a moment).
When Time Machine is first turned on with an external USB drive connected, it makes a full backup to the USB drive (which takes a few hours) and then does hourly incremental backups. But if you disconnect the drive and take your MacBook on a week-long trip, it continues to do local backups to its internal drive. Then when you return home and plug in the USB drive, your local backups are copied to the external drive and deleted from the internal SSD.
Time Capsules are the best (I have one). There's nothing to connect; when you return home, and open your MacBook, it connects to the Time Capsule's wireless network, sees the Time Capsule's internal hard drive, and automatically mounts it, copies the saved local backups to it, and then continues to back up to the Time Capsule once an hour. You have backups all the time, and there's absolutely nothing you have to do.
By the way, if you decide to get an external USB drive for backups (it should be a 1 TB drive), do not ever take it with you when you leave home. My brother used to put both his laptop and its backup drive into his backpack whenever he went out. A couple of months ago, his backpack was stolen while he was enjoying a rock band at a local club. He lost not only his computer, but ten years of digital history. -
Macbook Pro 5,1 issue with shutting down when lid closed - sleep issue
Here is the issue I hope someone has seen and figured out the cause. This is on a Macbook Pro 5,1 (2.8 Ghz Unibody). This doesn't appear to be the random shutdown issue.
My issue is when on AC power and you close the lid the mac sleeps. The light will blink indicating its sleeping. But at random time frames it shuts down. You open the lid and have to power on from a cold boot. Now if you hit sleep from the apple menu then close the lid everything is fine, it will sleep until the lid is opened. So its only when the lid is closed. And its random, sometimes it will stay in sleep mode for a few minutes or hours. But at some random point it will shutdown.
Any thoughts???
Thanks
jimHi and welcome to AD!
Try a SMC reset.

my speaker has an optical in port... and i would like to use it for better quality
does the mbpr have an optical hidden within the headphone jack. im not sure, from research it seems i would need a mini toslink or an adapter or somesort for it to work..
can anyone help me? if the answer is yes, what kind of cable would i need?
thank youso the headphone jack isnt an optical port (mini toslink) i heard it is? few threads say it is but it isn't disclosed as such

It looks like the strains are unwrapping in its isolating sleeve. By twisting the cord you can get the lump out, but when you then want to store it and wrap it around the charger the lumps come back because the cable is twisted in an other direction.
IMHO the worst way to store, transport, any Mac notebook charger is to wrap the cord around the transformer block as described on the Apple website and documentation. This only leads to the cord braking and as you have noticed some lumps.
I wrap the cord around my hand loosely in big loops never putting any strain on either end of it. I also let the cord hang loose before I start wrapping it around my hand. This allows the cord to twist naturally as I wrap. When un-wrapping I also hold it up to let all the twists work there way out. This has worked for me with all the AC adapters for Mac computers I've owned. -

i just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and when i switched it on the battery was 72 % charged and now the battery is charged to 62%, i used the charger that came with it and kept it for 6-7 hours on charging but it is not charged to 100% but why? also the green light is always on when i plug the charger with my mac book pro. Please tell me the meaning of Green light on power cord lid (mac book pro not charging or charging?) and also the other light if there like amber or any other colour.
Hello Shailendras33,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro! Thank you for providing all the information about what is going on with the charging issue.
Firstly, I found some information on page 11 of the MacBook Pro User Guide about what each color of the LED means on the Power Adapter:
When you first connect your power adapter to your MacBook Pro, an indicator light on the
MagSafe connector starts to glow. An amber light indicates the battery is charging. A green light indicates that the battery is fully charged.
You can find the MacBook Pro User Guide here (this is not for the latest MacBook Pro, but the information about the MagSafe adapter is true for the newest model):
MacBook Pro User Guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_pro_15inch_late_2011.pdf
It sounds like you are not getting the amber light indicating your computer is charging, and you are noticing that the battery level is depleting. I recommend resetting your System Management Controller when something like this is occurring:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the full article here:

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input. I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching. I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio. But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone. Am I missing something? Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?
Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.
You can get a USB audio input instead. i.e:

All,
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on my Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display. I am using the .iso file/USB stick method of installation because I don't have access to my original Windows 7 DVD. I have the top specification model with all of the max upgrades. The problem I am having is when I get to actual installation of the Windows 7 software, it can't find the drivers I need to complete the installation. Any tips or suggestions?I thought about doing what you said above, but unfortunately, I didn't have any spare blank DVD's. However, I was able to sucessfully install Windows & on my Mac. What I did was when I got to the error message, I would cancel the installation and that would return me back to the install now window. At that point, I would take out the flash drive and put it into another USB port. It took a few times, but eventually it recognized the drivers and allowed me to install the software. Remember, once you get past that point, the installation will ask you to choose a drive to install Windows on. Highlight the Boot Camp drive and chose "advanced", and then chose "format" after that. After all of this, it should be smooth sailing.

Games can be very CPU/GPU intensive and temperatures in the 90°c range are not uncommon. Note that there are thermal shutdown provisions in the Macbook Pro that will turn the computer off before damage from heat will harm it.
If possible, play games on it in environments are cool and consider a cooling pad if you wish to play games often.

I am thinking of getting my first Macbook pro for uni and was just wondering which one would be the best? The macbook pro or macbook pro with retina display? or even wait for the new release in 2013 ?
If your budget is unlimited, look at both the retina and non-retina and make a decision based on your preferences. If funds are tight, explore the options in the refurbished section. Unless you are dealing with courses that demand specific performance parameters, any one of these options will suffice.

I have just purchased the latest macbook pro 13 retina (late 2013). I want to connect to a Dell U2713H Monitor. As the new macbook doesn't have a cd slot, I am unable to install the monitor drivers etc. Where can I download the drivers?
Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm not sure how to connect to the monitor as the only ports available on this model mac are Thunderbolt. The mini display to display cable supplied doesn't seem to work out of the TB port. Do I need to use a Thunderbolt cable + an adaptor?
