Macbook Pro 13" Retina (2014) gets really hot
Hi,
I purchased a MacBook a couple of days ago and it has been fine.
However, today I've realised that the back of it at the bottom is getting really hot, even when the charger is not plugged in. I am not using powerful apps either.
Sometimes it can almost be too hot to touch for more than a couple of seconds. This happens on any surface, whether it's on my wooden desk or not.
The back getting hot also heats up the rest of the Mac to some extent.
Any advice? does it need seeing to and if so will I be charged? Like I said I only purchased it a couple of days ago.
Thanks!

Macbook Pro 17 (early 2009) gets really hot and MagSafe Charger.
My Macbook Pro 17 (early 2009) just recently started getting VERY hot after about 15 minutes of normal use. Even hotter faster with fan blowing like crazy when using programs such as quicktime (recording). According to my Mac HD, I have 168 GB available out of 285 GB capacity. The laptop gets very hot especially in the top left corner area around where the charger plugs in. And yes it is on flat surface. Any ideas on why this is doing this?
On top of the laptop getting hot, the original charger that came with it doesnt charge all the time. The white box where the AC plug is gets very hot as well. I bought a new MagSafe charger (the new "L" type) literally a year ago and the box on this one also gets VERY hot and the connector with LED light (part that connects to laptop) get EXTREMELY hot. Any help would be appreciated. My apple care is up and I think its rediculous to have to pay for any type of support now. Thanks.I bought a new MagSafe charger (the new "L" type)
Is it the correct one for your model Macbook Pro?

My new macbook pro 15 inch is getting really hot
My macbook gets to the point where it almost burns you. I know that laptops can get hot but it still worries me. Is it normal? What should I do?
open activity monitor. under all processes, see what's using up most of your % CPU. highlight the ones using the most %CPU and hit quit process.
also check your login items - delete the ones you don't need to start when you start your macbook.
good luck.. -
I have a Seagate Slim Portable 500 GB USB 3.0 external hard drive that worked great with my Macbook Pro 13" Retina but gets ejected and won't show files on any iMac. My Macbook Pro and the two different iMacs I tried it on were all using Mountain Lion, so the only difference was the iMac versus Macbook Pro.
I just tried this, no luck...
I connected a different USB cable, still the same problem. Tried both cables with the problematic hard drive on two different computers, still the same problem.
At this point I assume I'll probably need professional help in saving the files, thanks for the assistance. -
MacBook Pro 13" Retina (2014) support Miracast
MacBook Pro 13" Retina (2014) install Windows 8.1 by BootCamp,
Can't connect by Miracast device (ex. Actiontech ScreenBeam Pro WiDi).
Wireless Driver (Broadcom 802.11ac adapter) updated to 2014/7/25 6.34.223.1.
Is it possible to support Miracast ? How to?

Macbook pro 15 retina 2014 restarts itself
I just bought a Mac book pro 15 retina 2014. I bought it from the store and after two days it kept restarting for no reason while I was using it. I went to the store and they replaced it with a new one. I started using new one from Saturday and yesterday it restarted itself just like the previous one. and it displayed the same error message.
Can anyone help me?

Laptops run notoriously hot, a Mac running Windows natively will run hotter as well as the fans and cooling are not controlled or well behaved when running Widows.
And if you noticed, the topics and this forum is not about MacBook line of computers to begin with. -
My MacBook Pro with retina display got extremely hot while closed an in a carrying case
I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina display. I left my house at approxomately 6 p.m and I took my macbook pro with me. I put it in a protective Incase sleeve which I put in my messenger bag. When I got to my final destination about 1 hour and 40 mintutes later when I went to retrieve my macbok the entire messenger bag was hot. When I went to get the macbook out of the sleeve the actual computer was so hot I could barely touch it. I could even smell the computer (you know that new comptuter smell) standing a few feet away from it in a cafe that his good ventilation. When I left my house the battery was at 100% charge. When I discovered the computer in this state I had to hold down the power button to get it to start. When i logged in the battery was at 47%. I discovered that I left iphoto, chrome and microsoft word open. Should I be concerned? The machine was so hot that I can not imagine that if this turns into a reoccuring issue that it won't damage the computer. I wonder what would of happened had I not discovered it.
When it gets to a certain temperatue it would have gone into thermal shutdown, from your scenario it looks like your machine failed to enter sleep mode or power nap due to some applications that was holding it up.
as this machine was inside a sleeve and still running the machine couldn't dissipate the heat and ramped up the fans to attempt to cool itself hence the battery drain. -
Does the macbook pro with retina display get heated?
Hi I want to buy a macbook pro with retina display and i want to know more informations about it...like:-
1-does it get heated.
2-can I play any game without buying graphics chip.
3-does it run 64-bit download.
4-can order it with a CD slot.
5-can i upgrade to a new graphics chip.
6-if i will need a graphics chip what will i need it for.1. It will if you run heavy-graphics processing such as HD-movie streaming or gaming. But the system should shut itself down instead of overheating. And if you keep the system on a flat hard surface (rather than on bedsheets), it should be able to keep itself cool enough to not overheat.
2. Any, no. Many more than a 13 in that only has integrated gragpics chip in CPU, yes.
3. Not sure what you mean.
4. No. You need an external optical drive.
5. No upgrades, not even RAM or flash storage.
6. Simple internet only requires basic graphics processing. Streaming HD movies from NetFlix requires faster graphics response. Gaming requires faster graphics response. Faster graphics response requires a better graphics chip than the one integrated into the CPU, one with its own RAM. -

2 drives in MacBook Pro 15 Retina 2014 ?
Hello,
I can't find this information anywhere!
Is there space/connectors in this MacBook pro to install a second internal hard drive like a 2.5 inch SSD?
I know you could do this in earlier notebooks by removing the internal DVD drive...
Thank you!I'm pretty sure, 2014 MacBooks no longer have space for 2.5 inch Sata SSDs nor do they have the connectors for them. They use PCie based SSD Blades. Which are thinner and narrower, only one PCie connector is available for this.

Macbook Pro with Retina Display gets update? what about us?
I mean... What about us... the loyal customers who bought the Macbook at its original price and added upgrade when we could've waited for this new price and the ram update and processor update... no price change? Is Apple going to somehow "payback" the people who basically paid more for the same thing? I don't know why I'd expect this but it certainly would be nice to give us something... Apple just ripped me off... could've waited and saved about $500?
I totally feel you! Also bought my 13" MBP Retina very recently - do not even have it for 6 weeks! And I do understand and know that pricedrops happen a lot in the high-tech industry.. over a longer period of time! The 13" Retina has been out for how long..? Not even 4 full months! This is ridiculous! I call this *bleeping* your (loyal) early adapters. And Apple of all companies in this industry should know how important these (loyal) customers are.
It's not like you just bought an iPhone 4s which is already on the market for 8 months and then the iPhone 5 is presented for the same price. And that would be to expected because you know every year this is going to happen. No, this is like buying an €1800 MacBook Pro Retina 13" which is just brand new on the market for not even 4 months and then see your exact same precious product DROPS in price with €250! That is a whole different story and no one could have expected this move from Apple. It's like a stab in the back! -
Hi, I got a brand new 15" MacBook Pro a week or so back and had problems with the trackpad - when I tap to select an item the mouse pointer "bounces" off the item I'm trying to select. It happens randomly - not every time. Very irritating. Supplier got me a replacement machine, and it's doing the same thing! Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I migrated all my data and settings from my old Mac Pro (2011 model, also running Mavericks) via Time Machine - could that have an impact? Not using any non-Apple power supplies or other devices. Any input would be welcomed.

Migrating user from one machine to another should not be a cause of your symptoms.
Curious two machines in a row. Did this happen before you transferred data/ or di you check.
You have 14 days to return/exchange if you are not satisfied.
You could Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 but I don't see it.
Did you try making adjustments to trackpad settings

Should I use my Apple Care, or is there a quick fix?
you see what is running on your computer (because CPU usage is what makes the procesor(s) get hot) by opening the application "Activity Monitor" in the folder "/Applications/Utilities", then select the "CPU" tab (at the bottom) and sort the information in the top section by "%CPU":
This will show you what application is using the most CPU time and is the most likely candidate for why your machine is warming up. You can also quit all applications, then reboot to see if that resolves the problem. -
Mac book pro with retina display gets hot
I have noticed lately that when using my macbook pro with retina display gets really hot when using it - I dont think tis is normal. Or is it? I have had it less that a year and use if for photography editing.
What is hot? Heat in a MBP will be a function of the applications used and the stress that they place on the CPU/GPU.
If you can provide actual temperature data using Temperature Monitor from Bresink.com or iStat pro and an image of Activity Monitor, then an evaluation can be made if there is an issue. Note that Activity Monitor should be set to 'All Processes' and '%CPU' to display values from high to low.
These are examples from my MBP:

MacBook Pro 2009 very slow and extremely hot
My MacBook Pro 2009 is lately getting extremely hot and is very slow with frequent stalling. Does anyone have any idea?
You can first try to clean up all of the old system files and cache files left behind. Also, try to debloat it. I generally use an app called Detox My Mac which works really well. My mac was doing the same thing and it cleaned it up and i've had no problems since then. I made an article on it if you want to read it and get a download link. Here it is: http://www.softwarestogo.com/speed-up-your-mac-with-detox-my-mac/
