Macbook pro 13" service warranty

Hello. I purchased a 13" Macbook pro from Best Buy back in December of 2012.
Is my Macbook eligible for service @ my local Apple Store without any charges? I haven't yet purchased apple care.
Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Macs have got a 1-year warranty. You can take the computer to an Apple Store for free without any problem because the MacBook Pro is in warranty. However, when the warranty expires, you will have to pay for all the repairs the computer needs.
If you purchase AppleCare, you will have three years more of warranty, and all the problems you have, except accidents, will be repaired free of charge. Also, you can contact with Apple for free

"Service Battery" means just that - you need to make an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP and have the battery checked out and, likely, replaced.
If you upgrade to 8GB it will have no effect on the battery. 8GB is sort of the minimum that I would shoot for.

  • Late 2013 macbook pro showing Service Battery warning after 1 year and 2 months

    Hey there,
I purchased a 13" MacBook pro retina late 2013 in December
The battery has recently started showing the "service battery" warning. Here is a screenshot from Coconut Battery:
Surely after only about a year the battery should not be holding only 70% of the charge. Is this level of wear unusual? If I were to take this to an apple store would Apple likely replace it even though it is out of warranty?
    Cheers guys.

unfortunately, the batteries warranty is only one year.  The only options were the ones they gave you: buy a new battery (which I recommend), or use your mac on the power supply only without the battery.

  • How to get a macbook pro replacement under warranty?

I bought my Macbook pro 6 months ago, and it's still under warranty right now. I used some laptops of SONY VAIO & Microsoft before, and I did not experience any problems with them in the first 2 years. This year, I decided to give Macbook pro a try because I have heard many compliments about this laptop from my friends and advertisements. When I opened the box and used it in the 1st time, I noticed that the button CAPS LOCK wasn't good, and I had to press it 2-3 times to make it work. It has happened for 6 months, until now. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I still use it because I am an easy customer. But recently, whenever I turn on the SLEEP MODE for my laptop and work with my laptop later on, my laptop often experiences the PAUSE or freezing. I don't know how to describe it, but there is a round circle with rainbow colors appear on the screen and pause everything/programs is running. My laptop has never been felt out or scratch. It's just 6 months since the day I purchased the laptop. I should not experience this trouble with my laptop because I think the Macpro is better than the SONY VAIO or other laptops. I feel like I was sold a refurbished Mac, and I am really disappointed. My friend told me to bring my Mac to be fixed in Apple store, but I don't want to continue using a fixed, refurbished Mac. Can I get a replacement? If I bought it in Bestbuy, could I got replacement in Apple Store or Bestbuy store?

    Can I get a replacement?
    No - see below

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Can I get a new macbook pro under the warranty?

Its been two months since I got my macbook pro. I got the newer 2011 version. Less than a month into getting it my keys started falling off and less than 2 months later my hard drive went out for no reason and I had to get it replaced. And now my other keys are all falling off too. I don't understand. I feel like I was sold a refurbished mac because everything keeps breaking. Do you think its better to just get a new macbook pro? Is that even possible? I also feel like it takes a while to turn on than when I first got it. How long is the normal start up time?

If you have had this Mac for less then a year then the computer is still under warranty.
I also feel like it takes a while to turn on than when I first got it. How long is the normal start up time?
It depends. If you have applications set to launch when you startup the Mac, that can slow down the amount of time it takes to boot your Mac.
Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab.

  • Macbook Pro Battery-Service Battery Signal

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded to the mavericks operating system I have had an error message stating Service Battery. Does this mean I need to take my mid 2010 macbook pro lap top to purchase a new battery or is it an error created from the mavericks operating system? It just seems very co incidental this has occurred.
Any help would be much apprecaited

  • Help macbook pro battery 'Service Battery' ?

I got an old mac book off newegg in September it was a macbook pro late 2006 model with the duo core processor. It originally had 2 gb of ram I wanted more so I ordered some now I have 4 gb of ram.Keep in mind I ordered the correct ram for the macbook pro. I installed it,now ever since then it says Service Battery. I even tried to take out the battery for 5 minutes then put it back in the 'Service Battery' is still there when you roll over the battery. This is my 2nd battery I have had with this mac book I purchased it in October.
Here is my current battery info:

They told me to go to the genius bar to see if it is the battery or the mac book itself.
I just am freaking out because I can not afford another mac book nor battery and I just got this battery I have now in October.

I am sad to tell you that you did not order the correct RAM for your MBP.  The maximum RAM for a Core Duo MBP is 2GB.  You indicate that your problems commenced with the installation of the excessive RAM.  This strongly suggests that there is a correlation.  I would recommend that you put back the old RAM and see if the problem goes away.  If not take it to an Apple store.  There may be residual effects from the wrong RAM that may need to be addressed.
    Ciao.
PS:  I also have a 2006 Core Duo and my response has been done on same.  I still think it is a great MBP, slower than the new ones but does the same things, plus I like the silver key board.

  • MacBook Pro User-Service Hard Drive

    Hello!
I read that on a MacBook, you can change the computer's hard drive just as easily as changing RAM. You just open the battery hatch and everything is there. The RAM and the removeable hard-drive. Can the hard-drive be changed on a MacBook Pro, and if it can, is it this easy to change, or do I need an authorized technician to do it? Below is the link to where I read this.

Its not hard to do. It requires opening up your case though so it would be around a 20 minute job at the most

  • MacBook Pro Store Service Time

    Hello!
I recently left my MacBook Pro at the Apple store to have it repaired and they were supposed to send it out to their depot or wherever. But whenever I check the status online, it always says "shipment to repair center pending". It's said that for the past 3 days! Last time I had my MacBook Pro sent out for repairs, it only took 1 day for them to send it out. Why is it taking so long?
    Thank you!

Really, it's anyone's guess as to why it hasn't shipped. Delays can be attributed to the human element in many cases i.e. someone hasn't got around to actually posting the updated status or perhaps someone got too busy and let it slip, etc.
    Regards,

  • Macbook Pro Hard Drive Warranty?

First of all I apologize if this is the wrong section to post this. I'm very new here.
I replaced my MBP's hard drive a few weeks back so what I did was make the old hard drive an external one. Earlier today my friend tripped on it and it fell. Now it won't work, it just makes buzzing and scratching sounds.
My question is. Can I bring the hard drive to an apple store and get it replaced?
BTW my mac is still under warranty.
    Thanks.

My question is. Can I bring the hard drive to an apple store and get it replaced?
Not unless you're really dishonest. The warranty doesn't cover user abuse of the computer or the drive, and once the drive is removed from the computer there's no reason to suppose the warranty still covers it at all.
Drives are cheap. Take responsibility (or ask your friend to take responsibility) for wrecking yours, and buy a replacement.

  • Does Adding Ram To A New MacBook Pro Void The Warranty?

I am considering getting one at the end of the month and this answer will probably help me decide whether to get the 2 gig or 4 gig model.

Not an issue at all. I have upgraded all of my systems, and never have I had an issue with Apple support.

Things You Can Do To Keep Your Computer From Slowing Down
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

What is frustrating me most is Apple's poor level of support and service. Having been a loyal Apple customer for some years now I expected they would be more responsive to helping me resolve this issue. Sadly not! I have had 5 calls with support where they have deleted files etc. but to no avail. They then raised a ticket and suggested I take into Genius bar, this was 6 weeks ago but to date I have been unable to get an appointment that fits in with my works schedule.
Looking at other posts it looks like there is a generic problem with one of the graphics controlers used in the machine causing the crash when the graphics switches. Unfortunatley Apple seem reluctant to acknowledge this and I have now been forced to use a substandard device (costing £2000) for over 3 months now.
Has anyone had any luck in getting Apple to resolve this issue as I suspect I am not alone with this problem guaging by other posts?
Off to NY this week, gounf to buy a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, Apple has had its day in my mind!

The log shows that the NVIDIA GPU is damaged. If you have a look, you can see "GPU Panic", which means that the GPU has failed.
As your MacBook Pro is in warranty, you can get it repaired for free at an Apple Retail Store or reseller. Print the log and take it with you. Also, make a backup of your files onto an external drive.
Unfortunatel,y that's what we can tell you to do now
