MacBook Pro 15" can't find wireless preferred network after wake-up

Hello all
I've this problem with a MBP 15" (SnowLeopard 10.6.6): it doesn't find my preferred wi-fi network after waking-up from sleep.
Settings:
- on the MBP there's a preferred Location for this wi-fi connection
- wi-fi, DHCP and DNS managed by an AVM FritzBox 7050 (not visible SSID, MAC restriction, WPA2 pw)
- the channel I've set is different from other wi-fi around the building
The same network works perfectly using an old iBook G4 and an iMac, and other Windows PCs too.
Sometimes the MBP AirPort card just can't find the preferred Fritz network, while it does sees other wi-fi in the same building. Even using NetStumbler doesn't help.
I need to try to add manually "another" network several times before the MBP joins the Fritz wi-fi.
I already deleted and recreated the preferred network.
Is this a known software issue, or it can be a faulty AirPort card ?
thanx
Gabriel

Hello all,
after a lot of testing, using both the MacBook Pro and an old iBook G4 (the latter was working perfectly), and having on both machines some wi-fi sw such as KisMAC and iStumbler (while watching the wi-fi monitor on the access point consolle), I found that:
- the MacBook Pro is much more sensible to noise;
- it is better to use a channel with little noise, even if the are other devices on overlapping channels.
Eg: I found the channel #13 was free and there was only 1 other PC on #12, but there was a lot of noise. After trying all the channels, I  decided to use #4 because there was little noise, even if there were many PCs around on #5/6.
So, don't care (as one should usually do) too much about not overlapping channels; instead, search for channels with little interferences.
I hope my solution can help you
G.

I can´t download skype to my new macbook pro, I can´t find it in the App Store, do you know why?

There are a number of developers who have chosen for various reasons not to offer their software through the Mac App Store, so don't assume that if an application is not in the App Store that the application is not available. It may well be available directly from the developer or some other download site. MacUpdate is a good resource for looking for applications:

  • HT1695 Can't Find any wifi Networks after updragding to 6.0.1

My iPhone 4 can't find any wifi networks after upgrading to iOS 6.0.1 and i can't downgrade what should i do ?
I swtiched off  the connection from mobile and restared the router and nothing changed!
Note: My laptop found about 7 Networks my iphone finds nothing

I have the exact same problem.
It popped up on my 8gb iPhone (2.0.1) first time when i just purchased it. The Wheel spins as if it's searching for hotspots (and there are a lot of hotspots where i live). My MacbookPro finds them without any problems.
Second time i experienced these problems, it was after i didn't have a chance to charge the phone, and i figured it was a "Low battery, disable wifi" thing. But even though i charged it fully, it still can't scan networks.
I managed to discharge the battery, until the 10% warning popped up. I connected the charger, and sure enough, it was able to scan networks. Then when i tried to join a network, it stopped working again, and since then i've been unable to scan wifi. Now 3 resets, and a lot of fiddling later, i'm no further than i was before.
The fact that it was able to scan momentarily points me in the direction of the software, but i'm not so sure anymore.
Hope someone can shed some light on this.

  • MacBook Pro only can't find home wireless network

    Hey guys!
I purchased a 15" retina MacBook Pro by July. It brought Mac OS X Lion with it: I had no problems.
However, more than a month later I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and I started to have the same problem ALWAYS: sometimes I would be connected to my home wireless network, perfectly fine. However, after shutting down, sleeping, etc, whenever I would turn the Mac on again, it wouldn't find my home network wireless anymore, but it would find e.v.e.r.y and other network available. Also, my phone, iPad, and every other equipment, would find it and work perfectly. After several restarts and wake ups from sleeps, the Mac would eventually magically find it and stay connected for an unpredictable amount of times (sometimes it could find it continuously for some days after some sleeps, and sometimes it wouldn't be found again after some hours of it being found again (assuming the computer went to sleep)). But if I try any other of the available networks it connects with no issue!
And I've been in this game constantly! I've tried (almost) all the Mountain Lion wifi-related posts in the Internet, but none seems to solve it.
I have only found a few posts with my related issue, which I recall: the Mac won't find, ONLY, my home network, while any other equipment can, and it can magically find it occasionally, lasting its connection until the next sleep or shut down.
    Help would be really appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Juan

Hum, good point, the problem may lay with the router compability. My sister, who has ML as original OS has been having the same problem of not finding only our home network, so it seems that the problem lies on Mountain Lion compatibility with the router. I just restarted the router several times and we both got internet at the same time. The question is, as always, how long will it last until it won't find it again.
    Now, focusing on the router.
Here, in Portugal (as for the rest of the world I don't know), the Internet provider companeis offer their own modems. Not only that, as those modems are both: modems and routers ( http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/149/ofibrasjaestaabombar.jpg ).
After writting the above, and re-reading what you said, you lighted me up the idea of entering the modem domain (you know, that url you put and have access to every definiton of the router?)
Well, the password "type" was selected to "WPA and WPA2". What I did was selecting "WPA2" only. So far it seems that it is working. I'll do some restart tests etc etc and I'll let you know! (Maybe the problem may persist, but I'll only know days from know as it may seem, for know, that it is solved.)
I'll let you know, and thanks for the help so far, Sig!

  • Lost macbook pro, how can i find it ?? help !!!

my macbook pro is lost , how can i find it. i didnt turn on my findmyiphone on icloud !

Do you have a Pro Support actived and a Location Service?
Do you have a "Find My Mac" in iCloud?
If you don't have any of this, will be hard to find your Mac!
Check in your iCloud if your Mac was localized. If show like "offline", click in "Lost Mode". A Access Code is necessary to unlock your device posteriorly. If you not have one, a new 4 number code is necessary. See instructions in iCloud help. If anybody turn-on your Mac, it enter in "locked mode" and nobody can use it and you can find it!
Alternatively, you can back to airport or call and check in "Lost & Found" department if anybody find your computer!
    Good luck!!!

  • Synch music from iPod to new MacBook Pro .. can't find my music in iTunes

    Hello, this is Bryan ....
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro because my old MacBook was 7 years old. All of my data was saved on external hard drive (time machine) files and apps transferred fine. ... one thing which did transfer to my new computer is my music... Perhaps I don't know how to access iTunes properly ?
I have an iPod which I use with my stereo all the time   ... it has never been synched to the New MacBook Pro.
The iPod has 4,530 songs and some playlists ... I don't want to lose this data.
    Can someone help me ???

  • Macbook pro 2013 can't find hard drive to reinstall OS X?

A couple days ago, my 750gb HDD for my macbook pro 2013 failed so I replaced it with a 1TB seagate HDD and I ran an internet recovery however when I go to reinstall OS X, it asks to select the disk to install to but provides no options. I checked disk utility and it said the disk was verified and it was formatted to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as it should be so I don't know what the problem is. Please help.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have to format the SSD before installing Mac OS X. Start in Internet Recovery holding Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting.
Then, open Disk Utility, look at the sidebar and see if the SSD is listed. If so, choose it, go to Erase tab and format it with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X.
If you don't see your SSD in Disk Utility, make sure that everything is connected properly. If everything is connected properly, you can try connecting the old hard disk and see if it's detected. If not, it's possible that you have damaged something, so take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller. If it's detected, I recommend you to return your SSD and get a different SSD

  • Just transferred files from old macbook to new macbook pro and can't find my documents or music files itunes or garageband

Used emigration assistant and can't find my files. Applications and programs transferred fine but can't find word docs. picture or itunes songs.

Call Apple, you have 30 days of free support.
I tell you this because Apple doesn't think anything is wrong with Migration Assistant, but it's loaded with problems and we volunteers are tired of handling their problems for free.
Call them, make Apple fix it, it's their screwup.
Once they see it's costing them money, perhaps they will quit using it or fix it.
Sorry about the rant, but you can help solve the problem, Apple doesn't pay attention here, it's moderated and that's about it.

  • Migrated to a new Macbook Pro, now can't find my custom fonts

I migrated my backed up computer from an external hard drive to my new Macbook Pro, purchased in July 2014. Running Mavericks 10.9.5, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
I am a graphic designer and had many custom fonts on my old computer in a file structure that worked with Suitcase Fusion 2. (Users/Shared/Library (?)/My Fonts) This structure and all my custom fonts are now missing.

Try calling AppleCare at 1-800-APL-CARE and try to reset your password to you old AppleID through them, Give them your MacBook Pro's serial number to avoid having to pay for phone support. You may have run out of options to reset your password youself, but they may be able to override you hacker's attempt to keep you out by having you verify billing info stored on the old Apple ID. Any content purchased with that old Apple ID will have to be authorized for playback on your new MacBook Pro with the original Apple ID and password that was used to purchase said content. To my knowledge there is currently no way of transfering ownership of content from one AppleID to another, however after you get your old Apple ID sorted out, you may be able to change the main email to one of your own and change your password to one thats tough to crack to avoid going through this terrible experience again.
    Hope that helps :-)

  • New MacBook Pro Retina can't find new Time Capsule.

I have a new MacBook Pro Retina, for which I am trying to set up a new Time Capsule.  The Time Capsule is attached by Ethernet cable to my modem, and I have opened Airport Utility.  The Time Capsule is continuously blinking amber, and Airport Utility says "No configured Airport base stations have been found." • Macbook Pro no longer auto-connects to preferred network

    The title says it.
While my computer connects automatically to some (maybe all but one) of my preferred networks, it now does not connect, annoyingly, to the one I use the most often (let's call it NET).
I've triple checked that it's preferred and should connect automatically, and the computer remembers the password, so that if I manually select NET, it connects no problem. But:
    a) It won't auto-connect to NET, and
    b) If I turn my computer on, when it presents the list of networks to me, I have to wait for it to reload the list, cause if I click on NET originally, it doesn't connect, and I have to refresh the list and try again.
    c) Figured that might mean that it's just taking longer to load the networks and is showing me a list before it's actually picked up on the networks, but waiting forever doesn't make it autoconnect; it just refreshes the list.
Any ideas? This is a huge pain.

No idea. You could try deleting the file
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    ... and restart your Mac.
To find that file quickly, select the above path (triple-click the line), control-click to bring up the contextual menu, and select Services > Reveal. Drag that file to the Desktop, or directly to the Trash.
This will completely erase your AirPort network preferences, requiring that you select your Wi-Fi network and authenticate again.
What OS X version are you using, and are you using an Apple AirPort Base Station, or a third party product?

  • MacBook Pro, BootCamp Can't find installation CD

Hi, I have recently bought my first intel mac (osx Mountain Lion, 2.53 ghz Core 2 Duo, Mid '09) and am using BootCamp Assistant for the first time, i have read a few articles on this but BootCamp is system specific, and my problem is it cannot find the installation CD.
I am trying to install XP with SP2 32 bit, which the apple site said was OK, so I cannot work out why it won't work, The superdrive is fine, because I burnt the driver DVD OK and so is the XP disc, because I have Installed off that disc before (but never on mac)
Thanks for any help, but the easiest option is appreciated :-)
    Callum.

Yeah - it's only a 14-day free trial. I just upgraded to version 8 when it came out a couple of weeks ago: no problems with Mountain Lion.
You just need to install XP to a new VM - Parallels will guide you through the process. No need to option-boot or anything like that. And yes, it will work with 64-bit OS's just fine.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Can't find wireless at home after just one day

The first day back home, everything was fine, I can find the wireless name in the airport list and use it normally.
then I just folded the MBP as usual (I bought it last Fall, and use it normally)
the next morning I couldn't find the wireless at home but only could find the neighbors', even we both use TP-LINK router.
Till today it's more than 3 weeks that I couldn't do anything with my MBP.
I deleted all the old wireless record in the preference list and add my home wireless usr name and passwrd but nothing happened, still can't connect to it/
I can connect to internet normally at a coffee bar or starbucks.
all the other devices at home ,like my iphone and ipad , and my 27inch imac can connect to my home wireless normally, but sometimes the imac will lose the connection.
I read the discussion about the similar problem in this forum, but I decide to ask it again because the most strange part is , my MBP connected to it normally at the first day!!!!
I bought my MBP last year through online shop in CANADA. I don't think it will be a channel problem since I did can connect to it in the first day.
I didn't add any software for the airport or internet connection, either.
If somebody could have any idea that will be so helpful. Thank you.

Location services based on wi-fi is dependent on the Wi-Fi access point database having a known location. It is also not dependent on your own wireless AP, it uses all the APs it can see. It is possible your AP was never in the database, but a neighbor's was. If the neighbor's AP can't be seen or has been removed, you would lose "your" location information.
SkyHook wireless maintains a database that Apple used at one point (or still uses). You can try adding your AP (Time Capsule) to their database and see if that generates a location after a few days.  http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
My understanding is Apple is collecting locations based on iPhone/iPad location data tied with visible Wi-Fi APs, but I don't have any solid source. So, I don't know if they still uses SkyHook data. I submitted mine years ago and was "located" shortly thereafter.

  • I just upgraded to CC (from LR 5) on Macbook Pro and can no longer import to Network Drive.  New version is LR 5.7.  Help?

Just like the title says: MBP, retina works great with LR 5 installed from CD.  Added CC, upgraded to LR 5.7 and now import "hangs" with no activity.  Have been using LR since version 2.
More info: the problem is writing to my network drive (which has been working since LR 2...  It seems a Temporary Folder is created with permissions 755 (owner=rw, group=r, others=r),
    then nothing more.
Has something changed with respect to LR handling of network drives.  This is a Linux CIFS/SMB share (again, been using since LR 2).  Catalog is local on my MBP.

This is my post and I'm new, so I may not be providing the answer in the "usual" manner.  (Feel free to educate me!)
    Solution:
The mounted volume on MacBook is /Volumes/photowork.  Notice the lowercase 'p' in photowork.   In LR I had selected a mount point
with *uppercase* 'p'.  See screen shot.  Summary: The already-selected mount point was /Volumes/Photoshop.  LR had no complaints.  When
I changed the mount point to /Volumes/photowork LR imported as expected.
This only became an issue since the upgrade, as I simply never tinkered with mount points and so on.  This archive
server has files back to 2000 on it.    Thanks so much to those who responded.
