MacBook Pro 15 core i5 and Windows 7

Hi, in new MacBook Pro 15" core i5 4GB ram. I have installed BootCamp with Windows7 (bootcamp driver 3.1).
In "Computer Property" Windows7 Pro 32bit see 4 GB ram but only 2.18 are usable?
Task manager confirm this.
Any suggestion?

There are two problems that are limiting how much of the memory in the machine windows will use:
1) Windows in 32bit mode will only address _up to_ 3GB of memory. With 4GB of memory in the computer, windows 32Bit will use _at Max._ 3GB of it. The only way around that is to migrate to windows 64 bit.
2) Any system needs (like shared memory for low end graphics cards) subtracts from the maximum the computer recognizes. The i5 processor based Macs list two graphics cards in them (Intel HD Graphics & NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M). The Intel HD graphics uses a fair amount of shared (system) memory, so it will pull what it needs from the "3GB" leaving you with less. I'm sure there are other system needs that are pulling the number down further, hence your 2.1GB usable. On the Mac side you can probably choose which video card you use through system preferences. On the Windows side, Microsoft announced a while ago they wouldn't support this kind of system configuration (multiple dissimilar graphics cards), so my guess is in Windows 7 both graphics cards are "on" (because Win 7 doesn't know how to turn one off) and the Intel graphics is pulling the required memory from "shared" memory, even though it's not being used. This problem with running windows on a MBP with two video cards has been known for about 2 years and it sounds like Win7 didn't fix it. Having both cards running under Windows has also been known on older MBP models to generate a lot of heat and cause the battery to drain quickly.

The difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo is a show stopper when it comes to running Lion. The Core Duo is still only a 32 bit chip, but the Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit chip. You need the 64 bit chip to run Lion.

If you used VMware Fusion to install Windows, first make sure you have installed VMware Tools in Windows. Read > http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=display KC&externalId=1003417
Then, you will be able to change the Windows resolution as usual. In Windows, right-click in the desktop and select "Screen resolution". There are other ways to do this > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/get-best-display-monitor.
There are not best recommended settings because it depends on the hardware of your computer: for example, if you have got 8 GB of RAM, you can assign 4 GB of RAM to the virtual machine (depending on the applications you use), or if you have got a Quad-Core processor with Hyper-Threading, you can assign more processor threads to the virtual machine so you can improve performance.

I use a cheap Logitech Stereo Headset H130, but since there is only on audio plugin on the computer, I purchased a 3.5 mm 4-pin smartphone audio adapter thingy. That allowed me to put both my the sound coming to my headset & the microphone on my headset onto one wire. Everything worked wonderfully when running the Mac OS since they probably have support for that kind of stuff. The problem is though that once I try to use the same method in Windows 7, the OS doesn't recognize my headset microphone at all, but, instead when recording my voice decides to use the built-in mac microphone. Using this adapter still allows me to hear from my headset, but not use the microphone and that becomes a problem. It might be so that Windows 7 doesn't have support\drivers for that... How should I continue from here on out? Any advice?

From what I have read from others on here you may be out of luck. You would need the appropriate Windows drivers for the Cirrus chip in the Mac and no one has been able to successfully locate them. Apple wouldn't support this since Windows is an optional install.

Yes, it's possible, but if your Windows system is on a Boot Camp partition then you have to first remove it. Then create however many partitions you want for the operating systems. You have OS X on one, so you need two more - one for Windows and one for Linux. You then install Windows and Linux separately to their respective partitions. Download rEFIt
Use it as the replacement bootloader so you can properly boot from each OS properly.

I should just change the OS and leave all your apps and data alone. That said, if any of your apps are old and use Rosetta (ppc apps), they won't run under Mountain Lion.
Make sure you take a good Time Machine or Clone backup before you convert.

Hey guys, I've been trying to save my mac from this constant lag for the past few days to no avail. I've been reading the forums and trying to figure this out myself but I haven't been able to reach a solution so here I am. I've done a clean reinstall. I've run disk permissions and repaired the disk. I've reset PRAM. I don't have FileVault running. I am constantly getting rainbow wheel, even as I'm typing this question out. Applications freeze in their own windows, for example, Chrome will freeze but I will still be able to move over to another application like safari and use safari. It's practically impossible to run any kind media because it stutters constantly. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance.

It's been a few days since my last post, i've tried uninstalling chrome and adobe flash but my mac is the same. My problems have actually grown. Now my mac is heating up even when the lid is down and the computer is sleeping. The battery has also begun to drain very quickly. Any suggestions? solutions? My macbook pro shuts down OSX and all my programs when the lid is closed

Hi,
I am having a problem. My macbook pro shuts down OSX and all my programs when the lid is closed. I close the lid, and then I hear the shutdown music and then when I open it again it automatically restarts OSX and all my windows and programs are closed, any info gone.
This doesn't happen all the time. Just once a day or maybe twice a day. It seems like it happens basically when I have my computer just the way I want it, to keep an eye on things for the day.
I just recently switched to a mac and while somewhat savvy, I am not a programmer or techie, but it seems to me that when I shut the lid, it should do the same thing every time.
I have a intel core 2 duo 17 inch macbook pro with 2.33 processr and 2 gig ram, if that helps.
I am in alaska and there is no genius bar here and I am hoping to figure this out before I begin bugging our local independant mac store about this.

Ahhh, enlightenment!
That would make sense. What I usually do, after closing the lid, is to wait for the apple to turn off and then set it down on it's side leaning it against the side table. I will try to wait for it to indicate that it is fully asleep before I move it next time. Personally, I prefer my computer to NOT fall asleep at all, but I am told it is not an option. Apparently this function is hardware related accoring to my local mac shop. They tracked it down for me because I hated this feature when I first bought my computer and was trying some way around it.
The shutdown music I was refering to was that music the mac makes when shutting down, which doesnt usually occur when it goes to sleep, unless it is malfunctioning like this.
What does resetting the pmu do? (what is a pmu as well?)
