When I finally got my MacBook Pro 15 in June 2009 I tore it open and began hastily setting it up. In my haste, I accidently chose a town or zipcode town 20 miles north of me as to where I live. Unfortunately, when there are specials in that area, or something is happening that I might otherwise be interested in...I am not because a 20 mile drive here seems like an eternity. Can someone tell me how to change the city in the original set-up and where it is stored so that I might change it to reflect my true city.
Thank you,
JimYou can see number of charging cycles in System Profiler , under Power.
In regards to your battery/charger issues one thing - try to switch your computer off, take the battery out, and hold power button for 5 (10, just for a sake of it seconds.
Then put battery back in, and try to charge it/power it up. It's amazing how many issues can this solve...

Trackpad issues on Macbook Pro, new June 2009
I have been unable to resolve a trackpad issue that began this afternoon on my Macbook Pro. The computer was new in June. I was playing an online computer game, and it seemed that drag was locked on even though I hadn't changed any settings. Movements of the mouse dragged the window. The drag would not release with 1 click, 2 finger click etc. When I tried typing, the letters selected and replaced as soon as I typed new ones. After several restarts with the same behavior occurring, I reloaded the Snow Leopard 10.6 OS. I originally installed it about 2 weeks ago, and it has been working fine until now. After the reinstallation, the trackpad will not register most clicks of the trackpad. It will register taps, but it refuses to let the user click and drag. I have Microsoft Vista installed in Boot Camp and the trackpad is operating with the same glitches on boot camp. Clicks of the trackpad do not register most of the time. If they do, I have to click very hard, and even then it doesn't always work.
Be paticent.
You can try a SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow the directions that apply to your machine regarding battery, remove or don't remove yourself.
Try with a USB mouse in the mean time. -

Macbook pro 13" june 2009 fan rpm remains at 2000 rpm when temp is 85c
Hi,
I've just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch and updated software vis software update.
I've noticed that the fan rpm went to 2700 rpm on every boot but
after a few minutes it goes down to 2000 no matter the temperature is
I'm using iStatPro to see the temp and fan
I've tried open youtube videos to raise the temperature to 71 but the fan remains the same at 2000
Please advise.
Thank youThank you for the info
I've just tried resetting the SMC but no luck.
since this is my first mac computer so I'm not sure if this is normal or not
after an investigation with different scenarios of work load I found that
room temp : 27c
cold boot : cpu 45c
: fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
warm boot : cpu 58c
: fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
running parallels
with windows 7
and visual studio : cpu 75c
: fan 2000 rpm
The fan did kick in to 3500 rpm once the temp is 85c
I'm not sure if this is normal or not since my Dell M1330 xps
which running vista and visual studio shows only
cpu: 58c
fan: 3000rpm
Thank you
I'm not thinking about using SMC fan control to set the default to 3000 rpm
and use it only when I work on Windows but not sure if the program will damage
my new baby or not
Thank you -
[Solved] Compiling pommed for MacBook pro 13inch (June 2009 edition)
Hi, I'm trying to get pommed to run on my new MBP 13inch, but whenever I try to run the daemon it fails without any error message. Also when I run the pommed command itself I don't get any output. I tried to run with the standard mactel config and without any config.
I don't know which logs to check but dmesg doesn't show me anything.
Also I tried compiling pommed with the MacBook_Aluminum wiki tip by changing to 5,5, but still the same: no output.
Currently I'm on arch64, thanks in advance.

And this thread too ?

What does it mean no output ? Do you get back the shell prompt without any output or it hangs on forever in an endless loop or what ?
Maybe this one is relevant too:

And maybe you can follow the aur-general thread for this matter:

Hey, is there any difference in a macbook pro from May 2009 vs. one from June? I don't keep up with new releases so I'm not too certain.
I think what I'm going to do is refer you to an articles and a bench mark test that go over the differences.

Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) Randomly Getting Stuck in Sleep Mode when Unplugged
Hey guys, this is my first time posting so please excuse me if I do anything wrong. Here's the issue:
I have a Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) that has had an issue with the whole computer shutting down at random, but only when unplugged from the MagSafe power adapter. Upon scouring all the forums and discussions I could, I haven't found anyone with the same exact circumstances as myself, hence this post. Let me explain.
Many say it's a battery issue. That can't be, because this has been happening for months, and after I finally got my laptop repaired a few days ago, it still occurs. I had sent it in for a logic board failure, but consented them to fix any other parts that weren't functioning properly. Upon the return of my machine, I found that they installed a fresh hard drive, new battery, new logic board, and a new speaker on the right side. This must mean that neither the logic board nor the battery are the issue.
What else can this point to? Again, it only occurs when the Mac is unplugged from a power source, and it doesn't totally shut down. It goes half way, essentially stuck in sleep mode. The white indicator light on the front freezes, and the power button has to be held to fully turn the laptop off, then pressed again to reboot. It can last anywhere from a single minute to a few hours before shutting off again, and it's always the exact same circumstance, no matter what kind of computing I'm doing at the time.
Note that while no one else has found the solution to lie within resetting the PRAM or SMC (in the discussions I read), I still need to try that tonight and see if it affects anything.
Thanks in advance,
SeanMacs are having problems with SSD drives. The root cause is the OS X journaling file system. The Apple-written SATA controller driver can saturate the bus at times, inhibiting performance. Some manufactures are even selling special "Mac" versions of their SSD drives that are slowed down on purpose to compensate for this problem. Unfortunately, the problem still exists in Snow Leopard, from what I've read.
Also, I read that Apple has secretly slowed the recent new laptops down (3.0GB/s to 1.5GB/s) to compensate for the problem.

What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 model?
What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 model? I have two chargers for two different Mac and don't know which is thankswhich. I'm really looking for specific details such as voltage/watts and all the rest to idenify my charger. A link to where to web page where I could purchase the correct charger would also be very useful. Many thanks.
All help much appreciated. THANK YOUBoth power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter). -
Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model display "freeze", please help!!!
I have a Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 model which all of a sudden startet "freezing" everytime i restart it, opens spesific programs, etc, and it is really starting to bug me! Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to start the computer, and then freezes for another 5 minutes when i try to start i.e word.
I currently have the Mac OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard).
Could this be fixed by a software update of some sort? If not, how can i fix it (if possible at all)?
Thanks! You have provided some good basic information, but I'll need more in order to address our question.
1. When did you notice this problem? Relatively recently, or have you been having this problem for a while?
2. Can you correlate the problem with the installation of new software? Which software?
3. How much RAM do you have? If it's 2gb, that's probably not enough - 4gb is ideal for your unit.
4. Do you update your MBP with software update? Have you updated your browser and plugins?
5. Have you cleaned your MBP? Recently, an increasing amount of users have seen improvement by getting dust from your unit.
6. What programs cause you to freeze, or this happen with all applications? What happens when you notice the freeze? Do you see a spinning wheel? Does the display freeze? Be as specfic as possible.
I realize this is a detailed homework assignment, but answer as completely as you can. This is an answer to your issue - it's just a matter of narrowing things down.

Is it possible to connect a MacBook Pro (prev model 2009, 2.26ghz) to an Apple Thunderbolt display: will the cable fit?
Sorry it won't work. It will fit but the laptop can't communicate with it. Please see many of the other threads here, specifically this one just above your post, that is discussing this exact question.
Apple's specs for the ThunderBolt display state that it needs a ThunderBolt-enabled computer. Your laptop has a mini-display port connection so it is not compatible with the new displays. -
Problem installing Windows 8 via Bootcamp on MacBook Pro 13 (late 2009).
Hello,
I've installed Windows 8 Pro on my MacBook Pro 13 (Late 2009) which does not support Windows 8. I've started installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp, then interupted the installation and pluged-in the Windows 8 Disk, and after formating the partition, I've installed Windows 8 64-Bit.
Here is the problem. The Windows works fine, BUT after restart when I hold 'Alt' and choose EFI Boot (Windows 8's partition), Windows 8 starts loading but then suddenly there is a white flash and it restarts again. So after shut down or restart I cannot boot it.
Do you think that this is because I do not have Bootcamp installed on the Windows 8?
I've downloaded the supported software for Windows 8, but when I click setup.exe, it is giving me the following error:
This version of Bootcamp is not intended for this computer model. I've been trying to install it for more than 78 hours, so I'll be extremely gratefull to whoever help me. Thank you in advance.
P.S. Mac OS X partition boots fine.If it is really not possible, I get it. But there are plenty of people that are running Windows 8 on the same model, that is powerfull enough to run Win 8. I'm actually running it, but until shut down or restart . Can't I edit Info.plst file alternative for Windows 8 like I did to allow BootCamp to image burn my USB on my model? I mean my model is same as the next one. I can't see why the drivers for mid 2010, won''t work on mine...

HT4628 No Wi-Fi on Macbook Pro 13'' (Mid 2009)
Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 13'' mid 2009. I've done every update since I bought the Mac.
I've been having huge problems with the wi-fi on the Mac lately.
Every time I restart the Mac, the system does not load the wi-fi. Nor do I see e.g the battery power and other
Items don't load either. I have to restart the Mac several times 10 to 15 times until the wi-fi signal is shown on the login screen and all the other things work again as well.
I had this problem as well on Lion.
My question is, what could be wrong and how can I fix the problem?
Help would be appreciated...or does anybody have the same problem?
Thanks!anybody helps me???

Steps in upgrading HDD to SSD on Macbook Pro 13 Mid 2009
I need help in upgrading the RAM and Storage in my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2009. I have bought 8GB Memory and 512 GB SSD from Crucial.com. I have watched a lot of Youtube Videos on how to install them but I am afraid I am still missing some things I need to do.
I have created a back up on an external drive and have been updating it regularly. I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did).
Is there anything else I need to do? How about the OSX? Do I need to create a back up for it? Or is it part of the back up I have on an external drive?
Please help! Thank you." I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did)."
Check this out:
http://macintoshhowto.com/repair/back-up-computer.html
Once you think you've done it correctly restart and hold down the option key or go to "System Preferences" under the Apple and look at "Startup Disk".
That will tell which Disks are bootable.
Now about that Crucial drive:

It's not clear to me that this issue was resolved. The last post goes nowhere!
I always use OWC:

Just did two including this MacBook Pro early 2011 13" and a 2012 Mini. Total no-brainer! The way I like it. -
Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2009: back light problem
Hey guys,
I was hoping you could offer me some advice.
My 13" Macbook Pro from mid 2009 has been having some backlight issues. Sometimes, after opening the screen, the backlight won't turn on. If I shine through the Apple logo on the back with a torch, you can see the log-in screen, so I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the back light.
I have tried ressetting the SMC and PRAM, yet that hasn't helped. The only way to get the backlight to turn back on is to remove the cover, unplug the battery, hold the power button for 5 seconds, plug back in the battery, put the cover back, and then turn it on.
So far I had to do this every 2 months or so, yet now the screen seems to die more and more often. As you can imagine, it's quite a pain having to go through this process over and over.
Again, any advice to fix this issue would be fantastic.
Thanks!I appreciate the response, but my issue does not appear in the linked article as a reason to reset the SMC. Resetting the SMC seems like something too radical to fix something that should "just work". My MBP generally takes too long to wake up or doesn't wake up at all. If it doesn't wake up, I hold the power button and restart. Very annoying, since my wife can resume work on her PC faster coming out of Windows 7 hibernation mode.
Thanks, Apple!
