Are you saying that you inserted a dvd/cd into the optical drive and it is stuck, or when you try to insert one your mac automatically ejects it?

Ever since I received my Macbook Pro in July 2011 I've had issues with my wireless connection at home.  After software updates, Apple support suggested I reboot my router which works.  But now I have to do it every other day.  ????  AT&T my DSL carrier suggests I get a new router.  Apparently the one I have is really old and doesn't support my Macbook Pro.  Does this sound right?

If your using WEP encryption yes, Apple has discontinued that becaues it's worthless. WEP (and WPA) is cracked so encryption makes no sense.
Get a new Wireless N router, set it up with WPA2 (AES) Personal and two different 20+ randon letter/numbersymbol character passwords
One for Admin access only of the router, keep this on paper off all comptuers in a safe someplace.
One for entering into devices, computers etc for Internet Access Only.
You need the long and random password to defeat brute force attacks by GPU software that the hackers have now.
Also if you give out the password to another, they can't hack the network with the guest access password.
Computers remember the internet password, so anyone with access to your machines or network will have the password.
Since you have another Admin only password, they can't hack in. got it?
You don't need "Invisible" or "MAC Address filtering" that's a waste of time as hackers can sniff a network and causes issues getting on the network.
    Good luck.

  • Problem with macbook pro keyboard - MID 2011

Hi all, I have problems with my macbook pro keyboard.
I have several keyboard letter that bother me, the letters are e,y,d,h,c & n
When I hit letter 'e', it will come out as 'ey'..
When I hit letter 'y', it will come out as 'ey'..
When I hit letter 'd', it will come out as 'dh'..
When I hit letter 'h', it will come out as 'dh'..
When I hit letter 'c', it will come out as 'cn'..
When I hit letter 'n', it will come out as 'cn'..
    please help me out..?

If it turns out to be a hardware problem with the keyboard and the repair is done through Apple, be prepared for a sticker-shock price to fix it. The problem is that Apple considers the keyboard as an integral part of the top-half of the aluminun enclosure (it's called the top case & is CNC milled and quite complex)...to Apple, it is considered one-piece and one part number (top case). The keyboard is held onto the top case with many (~60) very tiny screws and this entire top case is the part that will be replaced. They will NOT replace only the keyboard.
I had the power button quit on my Late 2011 MacBook Pro 13". To fix it through Apple would've cost well over $500. The power button is part of the keyboard assembly (it's not removable from the keyboard and uses the same flex cable assembly) so the keyboard itself needs to be changed. I found the exact replacement keyboard on eBay for ~$30 and changed it myself. There is absolutely nothing trivial about replacing it. It was a huge pain in the butt, especially swapping the keyboard on the top case with all of those teenie-tiny screws. It took me the better part of a day to do it but I've had experience with this type of work for at least 20 years now. If I need to do it again for some reason, it will likely be quicker.
Just beware that a repair could cost some big bucks, even if it's only "just the keyboard".

  • Upgrading my MacBook Pro 13" mid-2010

    Hi there,
I've spent of the weekend researching this bit can't find a definitive answer so looking for a collective response if anyone has the time or inclination to respond!!
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4gb RAM and running OS X Mavericks.
I upgraded the measly HDD to 500gb a couple of years ago but I'm now finding the machine to be rather sluggish when accessing data and opening apps plus I'm not too far off the capacity of the HDD (which I'm sure is causing some of the problems).
I believe there's still plenty of life in my machine but I think I need to do some work on it!! I'm debating increasing the RAM to 8gb (I've read a lot of forums that say I can go to 16gb but I've also read a lot that says they had problems when they did), increasing the HDD to 2tb and replacing the optical drive with a 256gb SSD to run the OS and key apps.
My research has led to me to believe that the following RAM and HDD would be suitable but I'm struggling on the SSD.
    Crucial RAM memory upgrades 8GB kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3 8500 1066MHz :
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004TQGF1E/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_2?colid=GNGRCXV0EWA B&coliid=I3P211WKU8G4LB
    Samsung M9T 2TB 9.5mm SATA 2.5 inch Internal Hard Drive :
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00I8O6OQ4/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_1?colid=GNGRCXV0EWA B&coliid=I11RCVAJ9TBR3Z&vs=1
Am I right in thinking both of these are suitable? Is the price about right? The Samsung HDD is a SATA III but is the right size and I believe this to be backwards compatible with SATA II. Is this right?
What recommendations can anyone give me for the SSD given my model. I presume there are size and speed restrictions?
I'd also like an honest view and whether making these changes would have the desired effect or am I flogging a dead horse?I don't want to spend £250 upgrading everything only to find that the Macbook processor isn't able to cope with it and I'm still in the same position, or worse, but now skint as well.
Any views would be gratefully received. I'm also based in the UK so any links to sellers not in the UK may be problematical.

Those are the correct RAM modules for you model (the 13" being the only mid-2010 model that can use 16GB of RAM - but those modules will surely get you to 8GB!).
Am I right in assuming that you want to purchase a SSD to be installed in your boot bay and that you want to install the Samsung drive in the optical bay? Unfortunately, your link points to a rather sparse description of the drive - I see the 2.5" but I don't see the depth (which should be 7-9.5mm and not a mm more).
I'm just unclear about whether you're looking for a new spinning drive as well as a SSD and whether or not the drive will fit (just a minute - OK, found some more info - the Samsung drive is 9.5mm so it should sit just fine in your machine: do you still want a SSD?).
Note that the 2TB Samsung probably won't speed things up much - it's a 5400rpm drive: if you could use a 1TB drive, you could get a faster, 7200rpm drive.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 Problems with iMac 27" Late 2009 TDM

    Hi,
I just got problems with my iMac 27" Late 2009 (Mini-DisplayPort) and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Thunderbolt).
When I try to use my iMac as external monitor for my MacBook, there are massive glitches and graphical bugs on my second screen.
I bought a MDP-to-MDP wire from Belkin which works perfect on other computers.
    I tried these things:
    - Disconnected MagSafe from MacBook + unplugged all USB devices + switched graphics to discrete.
    - Shut down all computers ... then booted MBP, iMac and triggered CMD+F2
    - SMC, PRAM reset on both devices
    The cable works, because:
17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 works perfectly on my iMac screen with my Belkin wire!
I connected my MacBook Pro 15" to a 27" Cinema Display and it works flawless.
After that I plugged it out and tested it again with my iMac screen -> suddenly it works.
Retriggering CMD+F2 or replugging breaks it again with massive bugs.
The MacBook Pro 17" is on 10.7.2, 15" is on 10.7.3, but I also tried to trigger dual screen in 10.7.0 setup with the same issue.
Maybe its a problem with the internal 6750M of my MacBook Pro 15"?
The 6770M of the 17" is working well.
    Sample Video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_pgc52syes
All updates/firmware updates of iMac and MacBook Pro are installed.
    Any solutions?
    Greets,

  • I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) and now my microphone is not working

I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) 3 days ago, I had a terrible experience as the genious who gave me my solid state disk for safekeeping lost my disk's brackets thus I had to wait 2 more hours until they find one after 10 days of waiting for the repair. I noticed some weird sounds, like somehting is moving with the mac 1-2 times, even if I have no mechanical parts other than the fans, but my real issue at the moment is that my microphone is not working. I can see the mic in the System Info however and in Audio Midi Setup. In the Audio Midi Setup I see that the master chanel is turned off and I can't turn in on. Ch 1 and 2 are on full. I also noticed the first seconds after the comp. boots the blue bar goes to the middle in the System Preferences -> Sound -> Input. Any ideas what to do or try? I do not want to go back to the apple store as it is 50 minutes away from here and I need my laptop as a computer science student. Everything else is working perfectly.

You need to call both the store that did the repair and Apple directly, warranty service or Apple care, and report this problem with both of them and get a ticket number of some kind (some kind of verification number) that the unit just came back from major service with this problem and that you want it fixed when you can lose the use of it, which is not right now.
Without doing something like that they could easily say it is damage not covered under the normal warranty.
God knows what the repair center did and did not do to it while it was there.
And depending on when you actually bought it the warranty could run out in the mean time.

  • Macbook Pro 17" early 2011 Discrete GPU failure

Hi, before I start, this is the serial of my MBP so you can identify the exact model.
    MBP 17" Core i7 2.2 Ghz serial number C0*******F92
My Macbook pro 17" (early 2011) started to freeze once a month, but then, it started getting worse.  I narrowed down the problem to the discrete GPU graphic engine as I was able to disable the automatic switching and be able to use the system with most of the programs.
I googled around and learned that this problem happens to all early/mid 2011 MBP and iMac models that use AMD 6750M engie (if I recall well).
When the system is on automatic graphic switching mode, whatever app you use that requires the graphic engine switch (VMWare Fusion, Photoshop, iPhoto, etc), causes the system screen to freezes.  The system although unstable, keep working as I am able to log into the system via SSH.  Trying to reboot via shell (sudo reboot) won't work as there is some frozen process preventing it, but system is alive.
You have to power cycle the MBP between 2 and 6 times to be able to get it to boot as most of them time it freezes during the boot process.
I want to know if there is an apple warranty to this problem ( I don't have apple care on this machine).  If not, what will be the cost of the logic board replacement and how is the procedure to get it done.  I live outside of the US and can send the machine if needed.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regrds.

  • What kind of display can I add to my MacBook Pro 13 mid 2010?

I have a MacBook Pro 13 mid 2010.    Please see the specs below.  It is still working great, but I would like to add an external display so I have a bigger screen to work from when I remote into my office desktop.   What would be an economical way of adding a secondary display to use with this machine?  I don't need state of the art graphics.  This is mainly for writing code and documentation.  Thanks.
    Graphics and video support
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory3
Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
    iSight camera
    Mini DisplayPort
    Video output options
DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter supports 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display (optional)
HDMI output using a third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter

Thanks...just got a Dell monitor and an adapter for the mini displayport to HDMI.  It hooked up very easily and looks great. <$300.

  • 1. could I connect an external USB3 drive to my macbook pro (15" MID 2010)?

Trying to connect I can't see it.
    2. Question: Is it mirroring possible with apple TV on MacBook pro 15" MID 2010?. Playing a movie with VLC can I send it to TV?
Could you please give me an advise?

    1. Of course. Your Mac will not work with the external drive at USB 3.0 speed, but you can use it as a USB 2.0 external drive.
    2. AirPlay Mirroring needs an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 As you cannot use AirPlay Mirroring, you can use an application like AirParrot or Beamer

  • Steps in upgrading HDD to SSD on Macbook Pro 13 Mid 2009

I need help in upgrading the RAM and Storage in my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2009. I have bought 8GB Memory and 512 GB SSD from Crucial.com. I have watched a lot of Youtube Videos on how to install them but I am afraid I am still missing some things I need to do.
I have created a back up on an external drive and have been updating it regularly. I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did).
Is there anything else I need to do? How about the OSX? Do I need to create a back up for it? Or is it part of the back up I have on an external drive?
    Please help! Thank you.

" I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did)."
    Check this out:
    http://macintoshhowto.com/repair/back-up-computer.html
Once you think you've done it correctly restart and hold down the option key or go to "System Preferences" under the Apple and look at "Startup Disk".
That will tell which Disks are bootable.
    Now about that Crucial drive:
    http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-SSDs/512GB-M4-and-2009-Macbook-Pro/td-p/7805 6
It's not clear to me that this issue was resolved. The last post goes nowhere!
    I always use OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC
Just did two including this MacBook Pro early 2011 13" and a 2012 Mini. Total no-brainer! The way I like it.

  • Macbook Pro 15 "(late 2011) failure of the graph?

I have a Macbook Pro 15 "late 2011. Anyway, yesterday suddenly working with photoshop choppy with many stripes screen mode interference stayed. Thing goes off and no longer gray top with window apple and can distinguish some weird lines in the background.'ve noticed that much heated and the fans spinning at maximum causing a lot of noise, but very exaggerated even going to burn and thought it is the graphics card. Des then ever Very few, I get to open the OS but asking him to do something that required a bit of thinking and resources are left hanging and computer exorbitantly warm after a while of being on, with fans the most.
I report and I've seen these Google Apple Macbooks Pro have had problems with this model, which came with the faulty graphics card and there are many cases like mine the net.
I've led the service and have told me it's the graphics card and ask me € 650 to change the motherboard and the graphics card is integrated into it.
Because there are some times reaching to open the operating system and some not? If the graphics card failure should never be opened or seen anything on the screen ...
Because if the graphics card fails the computer so hot? Something does not look clear or logical in this ...
I was very happy with the laptop and Apple products even recommending their products worldwide. But now I feel ripped off by Apple, very unhappy and never'll buy an Apple product and will recommend to anyone else. I think if a laptop goes with any defective part must be arranged at no cost by the consumer no longer has warranty though. If your products are of such quality that do you find such a product to market and not requite the damage? I thought Apple products were of high quality and durability ...
The question is how Apple leaves the market one produxto flaws and is not responsible?
I would like a response from the company
    Actually, I'm very disappointed.

noice T greetings:  Your comment suggests that you have had  less than satisfactory results in dealing with the staff at the Genius Bar.  I am disappointed to hear that.  I on the other hand have found them to be good to excellent for the most part (yes I do recall a less than satisfactory Genius).  I think ffmcollins' problem is better addressed at an Apple Store than at Best Buy.
