Macbook Pro 15" (Mid 2014) Crashes repeatably
Since I'm on Yosemite and IOS8(.1) I have more problems with Apple devices than all the seven years before this last month.
One of the most annoying problems at this point is a crashing Mac. It's a custom (515 GB SDD) MacBook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2014) and it has since the beta testing a freshly installed Yosemite (from the MAS). I copied manually a few things from my Time Machine backup (Application Data, prefPanes and my usual "User-folder" stuff. I do not turn my MacBook off. I just let it sleep with the cover closed.
Every morning I wake up with a I-have-been-crashed popup on my screen. I don't know how! I though it came because I made a new (400GB) backup to my Time Machine enabled NAS but I turned that backup off but the crash was here this morning. Earlier I had this also when I worked on the machine. But that is te last couple of days not the case anymore.
I pinpointed the time of the crash, because of the "report to apple" details. This is some lines from the console:

Does anybody understand this of isn't there a sign what caused the crash? I hope somebody gets it, otherwise it will be a long phonecall to Apple I guess

Hi ..
It's likely one or more of the, "few things" restored from TM that's causing the crash.
Reformat (erase) the drive using OS X Recovery to see if it's stable. If so, then it's definitely something transferred from the TM backup that's causing the problem.

Trouble installing Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro Retina mid 2014
Hi everyone
I recently bought a MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2014, 15", 2.8GHz, 1TB SSD) and wanted to install Windows 8.1 on it via bootcamp.
I have an official .ISO package of Windows 8.1 (it's x64, I checked), got it from MS Dreamspark as a student, and a valid serial number for it, of course.
Burned the image on a 16gb flash drive via bootcamp and proceeded to install. When asked by windows installer which partition to install on, selected bootcamp and clicked 'format', as it was recommended to do in various instructions on the internet (as it wouldn't install without formatting, I tried). The installation went good and finished, but immedeatly after that the installer gave me a notification "Impossible to update computer loading configuration, installation cancelled" (maybe it's not exactly like that, translated as accurately as I could, I'm installing windows in Russian).
I tried it twice, each time re-burning the installation drive. Got the same error each time.
All the software (OS X, bootcamp, etc.) is up to date, the macbook shouldn't have any problems as it was bought just a few days ago.
How can I solve this problem?yes sorry if it ruin the ending of one of the youtube clips you will be witching if you have problems as how you install windows in bootcamp

Install Windows 7 Pro 64bit on MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2014
Trying to install Window 7 Pro on my new MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2014. I went through the following:
Attempt 1: Downloading the latest bootcamp support drivers, copied on flash drive and used BCA for partitioning. Booting from Ext. DVD with USB pin drive containing the drivers inserted
Attempt 2: Using ISO to create a bootable USB pin drive with bootcamp support drivers on the same..
Both attempts ended being unable to pass Windows 7 language selection screen. Mouse/Trackpad/Keyboard are not working.
Windows 8.1 pro works fine, but I'm not very happy with it..
Any advice? The primary challenge is due to absence of proper drivers on the W7 installer to support the USB ports. One thing to check is if the USB is a USB2 or USB3. USB3 pen drives will not work.
You should also try Attempt 2 using all available USB ports available, one at a time. Disconnect any other peripherals other than KM and USB before you start installation. BT devices are not very stable when used.
If you can see any files in the Bootcamp volume from the OSX side, look for installer logs for details.

I have an iPhone 6 and Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2014 and I live in Dubai, I bought my macbook from Canada and iPhone from UAE so it doesn't have FaceTime but i should be able to get calls on my mac right?
If you set your imessage off on your phone it will only turn it off on your phone i think I don't think it effects your mac. I'm not 100% sure on this though.
If you want to remove imessages from your mac - Open iMessage, go to Messages top left, and then select Preferences. Select "Accounts" and then simply "Sign out" That should do it. -

MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2014) failing Memtest ?
Hi !
I'm experiencing issues with my MB pro retina mid 2014 since I have it (1 month now) : kernel panic, reboots, freeze, and so on. As I have a little experience with computers, I thought it sound like a memory issue. So I ran memtest (from USB stick, and from the OS) after a complete reinstall (from the network).
Now, memtest from USB stick shows 10560 errors and freezes the computeur after 1h30. Memtest from the OS shows that :

I run the global Apple Hardware test that says there is probably an issue with a memory module.
Here's my trouble : I went to my nearest Apple Premium reseller, the tech guy says my Macbook has no issue, and is in perfect condition... he just made a test like in the terminal : yes something, to "stress" the memory. He says memtest isn't edited by Apple and its results are not relevant, and AHT is just a simple user diagnostic tool, but it's not relevant neither...
But I'm pretty sure AHT AND memtest can't be wrong ? What can I do ?I have the same problem with MBP 15 retina 2013 late... I think something goes wrong.... ((((

I USED TO be able to make phone calls using continuity on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with Yosemite (10.10) via my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8.1 without any problems. Once I updated Yosemite to 10.10.1, my iPhone's springboard would continually crash where it brings up the Apple logo and quickly restarts repeatedly until I end the call. Just so that you know, I am able to stay on the call while this is occurring the whole time.
I need to reiterate, this all started happening as soon as I updated Yosemite to 10.10.1 while still on iOS 8.1. I know this because I made a few phone calls (loving the feature), updated Yosemite to 10.10.1, then made a few phone calls afterwards, and this started happening.
When iOS 8.1.1 came out, I eagerly updated hoping this issue would go away, and it did not. I'm hoping Apple notices this post. If anyone else has this problem, please contact Apple and chime in this post as well. Thank you Apple for incorporating continuity calling. I love this feature, but need to use it without my phone's springboard constantly crashing.I have this issue as well. I am using an iPhone 6 plus, iPad Air 2, 5K iMac, and MacBook Pro. When I make a continuity calls from any device, the springboard crashes. This only happens with outgoing calls, incoming calls are functioning normal. I am currently working with multiple Apple Senior Advisors, and they are working directly with iOS a engineers. I have an active open case and will update this thread when a resolution is found.
Just a tip for everyone with this issue, restoring your devices and setting them up as new WILL NOT correct this issue. Save yourself the hassle. I did this with my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook and the issue still persists. -
MacBook Pro Retina (Mid-2014) Cannot Boot Camp
Hi all,
I'm running OS X Yosemite (10.10.2) on my MacBook Pro Retina 13" (Mid 2014). I have tried to boot camp the machine but it's not working. After boot camp assistant has created the Windows 8.1 installation disk and saved all the drivers and software onto my thumb drive, it will then request for me to choose the size of the partition. However at the last step when I click the "Install" button, my computer will restart and boot into OSX. In Disk Utility the BOOTCAMP partition is there, but in System Preferences BOOTCAMP is not listed as a Startup Disk. I have tried to restart the computer while pressing the option key, and startup manager appears. However under startup manager only Macintosh HD is recognised and my BOOTCAMP partition or windows installation USB both do not appear. I have tried to create a partition manually in Disk Utility and open Startup Manager again to install windows from my thumbdrive, but again both thumbdrive and windows partition do not appear. Please help.
Thanks.Since you have a Mid2014 MBP, the USB should contain the Windows installer and BC drivers. Make sure your USB is a USB2 flash drive/disk. USB3 will fail.
There should be no hubs between the USB and the MBP and no other external peripherals connected to the Mac.
However at the last step when I click the "Install" button, my computer will restart and boot into OSX.
This indicates that the Mac cannot find the USB with Windows ISO and BC drivers. -
Macbook Pro 15, Mid 2010 - crash after sleep
I'm using OSX 10.9.4. Every time my macbook pro wakes up from sleep (either on batter or charger, with or without external screen) it reboots. Usually, I'm presented with username/password dialog. As soon as I type in my password and screen unlocks, osx reboots. I am using FileVault and I did change HD to SSD few years back. Some people suggested here on forum to turn off "Put hard disk on sleep when possible" in Energy Saver settings. I tried that, but it didn't work.
Thanks.

Thunderbolt Bus:The panic is not caused by software. You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they might still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired free of charge, and you don't want to pay for the service, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Brand New 13" Macbook Pro Retina (Mid 2014) Overheating?
Last week I brought a new 13" Retina Macbook Pro. I am so excited and happy since I finally got my first Macbook after a long waiting and saving up money.
Everything was working so well so far, until recently I got bit concerned about the heat that this macbook generates. The first time I noticed this when I was watching a flash video. The back part of it was too hot, that I can't even keep it my lap. The next day I got the same issue. This time I installed Istat Menus to monitor the temperature, and it was 83 degree celsius.
I thought it was a flash player issue. Reinstalled, results same. Changed browser from Chrome to Firefox, same result. CPU usage was about 25 to 35% when running flash content and simple css3 loop animation.
Moved to Safari, temperature down to 47 degree celsius, CPU usage was 10 to 15% running same flash content and simple css3 loop animation.
So I guess It is the browser issue.
Now installed a brand new HP printer, Opened mac's default scanning window and scanned a document, there it was again, the temperature was 82 degree celsius, CPU usage was 25 to 30%
Now running vmware, same result, temperature 85 degree celsius, CPU usage 30 to 45%.
It is like whenever I use an app that takes more than 20 to 25 % of CPU, the temperature spikes to 80 degree celsius and above. I can't imagine what an app with 75 to 80% CPU usage would do to my Macbook.
I don't know if now a days , Macbooks are like this, Couple of people report here the same. All Mid 2014 Model.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6518207
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6508083
My experience and knowledge is limited to PC usage, as far as I know a PC won't do this for a basic task like watching flash content, playing css3 loop animation.
Can somebody tell me what is going on?

Apple Diagnostics : No issuesThe warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies. -
Macbook Pro 15inch Mid 2010 crash and reboot itself
I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch Mid 2010, Intel Core i5 and Nvidia Geforce GT 330m 256 MB with the latest Maverick as a OS X
I been having some issues lately whatever I open from the web or even open an email it would just crash and reboot itself. Not overheating so far I see and I did not install any other softwares that could cause the problem. It is ramdom. It was happening previous OS X and if figure that by updating to the latest would maybe help also. I even did a full erase and reinstall ox x and still it does the same issue.
I think it is a video problem from what I may have read or maybe not and if it is what can I do? do I need to buy a new board? what would be the cost?
I would think which I am sure my warranty is done now.
Anyone can read this error I have supplied and know what I can do to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Lucas

Thunderbolt Bus:already did...they will only replace the logic board.
At least it work very well without connecting to the big monitor. But sadly i got this huge monitor with wireless mouse and keyboad sitting doing nothing now.
my only other choice is to see if i can find another logic board on ebay cheaper than apple.
Very fustrating...knowing that apple knew it was a problem they made and had a limited timeframe to replace the board at no cost. Now because warranty is done...Apple basically saying not our problem should have got apple care program.
I believe if the company make an error with certain hardware they are responsible regardless the warranty is on or dead.
I love apple products...but sadly the support is very dissapointing. Get extra warranty or have Apple Care program. If dont have it....not our problem even if the hardware was bad. -
Late 2012 13" macbook pro vs mid 2014 13" macbook pro
Hello All,
I have been using late 2012 macbook pro 13" with retina display and thinking to replace it with mid 2014 macbook pro 13", could you help me to understand the difference between the 2 models?
Thanks. The range of reported problems using an external monitor or projector and the mid-2012 MBP is dizzying. The only way I've found to use an external monitor is to shutdown and plug the monitor in prior to rebooting. Any attempt to attach a monitor (or projector) after I'm up and running fails. All the trashing of plist files, resetting PRAM, etc etc. doesn't solve anything.
And turn off energy savings. If my MBP goes to sleep, it won't find the external monitor when waking. I have to reboot again.
Bush league problems. Our only encouragement is that it appears to be a software issue, since booting into Windows solves the problem. So we can hope for a fix. I'm pretty disgusted with Apple here. They've had a lot of time to fix this since 10.8 was released. I've been an exclusive Apple user since 1984. But as they've gotten fat and sassy, their quality control and responsive service has sunk. I can put up with their secretive, non responsive approach if things get fixed. But if they don't, they're headed for the ash heaps. -
Macbook Pro 15 Mid 2014 & External Monitor
I got a Macbook and then realized I needed an HDMI or Thunderbolt converter to SVGA.
Got my adapter but it does not work. Is there a button or something to send the signal out?
Can I not use SVGA? The monitor has a HDMI port on it and I never thought of it.
Maybe I need to run to town and get a HDMI cable?
I'll take 2 cents.Hi,
I deal with very similar issues. I have Samsung S24C650PL 1080p (connected with HDMI), which I bought one year ago. I used it a lot with Windows without any issues. Last week I bought my first Macbook Pro Retina and since than it is a pain.
All fonts are significantly more blurred than with Windows.
Especially scanned PDFs are horrible, very difficult to read, much worse than the rest of the system.
What is, however, really weird, if I move the Preview app with the PDF from the internal display to the external, it shows the right and sharp image for cca one second before it becomes blurred. So it is obviously software-related issue.
I tried:
Deactivate "Use LCD font smoothing when available" --> no effect at all
Deactivate "Smooth text and line art" --> no effect
Use any possible settings in "Displays" --> no effect
Call the Apple support and talk with them for 40+ minutes --> no effect and no help
What is even more weird, if I use Parallels with Windows, it is okay! Even in the small window and not in fullscreen, the Windows show everything just as they should - crisp and sharp lines and fonts.
The unique "workaround" I found is related to PDFs and their readability.
Install Acrobat Adobe, which uses obviously a different rendering engine than Preview app. (However, I don`t like the app.)
Install Foxit Reader for Windows under Wine (even that is much better than Preview app.)
I am pretty frustrated with these issues, because I thought Apple cares a little bit, but it is simply not true.
And I can`t understand why MacBook Pro Retina can`t render the fonts at least so well as a cheap notebook for 200+ euros. -
There are lots of different comments about installing windows 8.1 on Mbp 2014 via bootcamp when you surf the web.but I want the certain way for doing that without any doubts . If anyone has done this installation successfully please give me a step by step guid. Thanks
Please see Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions about installing Windows 8 - Apple Support and How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support.

Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2010 Random restarts
hi guys, about 2 years ago I spilt water over my laptop, I was like a ninja on speed powering off disconnecting the batter, and disembling this unit. allowed it to dry out over the course of 2 days, re-built and it was working perfect, about 9 months ago my laptop restarted and through up the "your computer restarted becuase of a poblem...." didnt think much of it (i know dumb) it started happening more regualr, i formatted and re-installed the OS and left it as a new mac. recently it has been getting more and more often so much so if i run Safari, photoshop and uTorrent, it kernal panics. I have pasted below the kernal panic, i understand it problably will be due to liquid but I would like to find out exactly where the issue lays and what with.
Thanks for all everyones help in advance.
