MacBook Pro 15" Noise from Light Pressure on Aluminum Body
Folks, I've got a new MacBook Pro 15" that makes noise when any sort of light pressure is placed on the Aluminum housing. It has a glass "tinkling" sound, or a glass rattle. It sounds like the glass touch pad sticks or moves against the housing. Placing your palms on the housing or near the touch pad is enough for this annoying sound to occur over and over. It is not the fan and it is not the hard drive. It makes the sound even with the laptop is off. I can place two fingers on the underside of the Aluminum case below the touch pad and gently lift. It will make this high pitched glass clicking/rattle like noise. Very hard to describe. My sons new 15" does it and his friend who has a new 15" says his periodically does this too. The noise seems to get worse some times. Anyone else hearing this issue? I've not received a response from APPLE yet on my complaint so I'm curious how many others are experiencing this problem on late 2010 MacBook Pro's? Thanks.

I've been using my new MacBook Pro for a week -- it was shipped directly from the factory because I wanted the matte screen. I didn't hear the sound the first few days of use, but now I hear it all the time.
It sounds like a glass "tink" or like a small piece of metal was under tension and has flicked loose and made a light "ping." It comes in bunches: I'll hear nothing for a few minutes, then hear several of them in a clump or in a row.
I don't notice it when I put pressure on my keyboard or mouse pad, but I do often hear it if I lift the laptop a little or slide it around. (That reinforces the sense that something is being flicked loose or moved inside.)
It's very annoying. If anyone has had this fixed or taken it in to have it looked at, I'd love to know the results.

I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA. It is now running Mavericks. I connect it to a 27" Cinema Display that I bought in China after we moved to China. Before I installed Mavericks, I could run all of the Adobe CS6 and Adobe CS5.5 applications on my Macbook Pro while connected to the cinema display. Now that I have Mavericks installed, whenever I am connected to my 27" CInema display my Adobe applications crash upon opening. I know this is a rare scenario, but does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there a new driver that needs installed? I'd appreciate any help.
I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.

I wish to upgrade my Macbook Pro to ML from SL but told the only way to do this is by downloading thru App store. Is it possible to copy ML on to a USB and upgrade that way. I would like to have a back up of the OS installation files just in case i have a problem later. Please help me!
You can create an install disc but you would have to download Mountain Lion to do so..

I've encountered this error myself upon occasion. If I remember correctly, it was a permissions/ownership issue with the some of the files I was copying. -

My early 2008 Macbook Pro is suffering from black screen after Yosemite update. It ran beta 5 great but failed on restart after beta 6 install. There is no cursor but I can hear the HDD spooling up. I have tried booting in safe mode, PRAM reset and SMC reset but nothing works. After the first 5 days of every now and then trying to start it, it started fine. I used the machine all day with no problems, it had rolled back the install and was back on beta 5. I decided to try the update again, the same thing happened and it has stayed black for over a week now. It wont work with a monitor either. Help!

I would try instead of installing the beta software, to install the official build of OS X Yosemite from the Mac App Store to see if that gets you passed the no video issue when updating the beta software.

I need to generate a still shot from from a video I made with my camera. I would like to accomplish this task using a single application. If this is not possible with my MacBook Pro as purchased from Apple, please recommend which applications I can purchase that include this feature. Thanks in advance.
For FREE do the following:
When you get to othe part of the video you want a still shot from, put the video on pause.
Take a screen shot: Apple>Shift>4 - which will produce a cross hair so you can manually select which part of the video you want.Check inside either your Applications or Utility folder for an app called Grab. Will do the above with just a single click.
If you still want to purchase software, suggest that you do a Google & MacUpdate search. This way, you can find exactly what you want. -
Brand new 15" MacBook Pro Retina - unplugged from Thunderbolt Display and Keyboards today find keyboard alpha-numerics not working; except the function keys, delete key, tab key, command/ctrl/shift/alt/fn and arrow keys; and 7/8/9/u/o/j/l produce cursor nudges.
It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

and check out the relative values for the system you're currently using versus the one you're going to buy. My guess is a fullly spec'd MBP Retina will do the job, but you're undoubtedly better qualified than anyone on here to tell what kind of a machine you need. -

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway. -

Try resetting your PRAM. If that doesn't work, you may need to get it looked at. It could be a power supply or hard drive issue.
