MacBook Pro 15" Retina Not Sleeping by Energy Saver

I set both the sleep timer for battery and power adapter to one minute, but the only thing that appears to happen is a dim screen on power or battery.  This is not the same as closing the lid or choosing Apple and sleep.  This is the same thing happens if I just have the timer to only dim the screen after one minute.  I have reset the power manager and booted to safe mode, same thing.  Tried clean install on external hard drive and booted, same problem.  Is this working correctly for anyone on the new MacBook Pro Retina computer?  Since the LED power light is gone on this model, a good way to test sleep is to have the caps lock key on as it has a light on it.

You might not need a whole new charger.
It's common for the fuse to blow, and that's in the detachable plug - the bit with the prongs, that goes into the power socket.
So, you might just need to buy a new plug (about £15) or replace the fuse (a couple of quid and a few minutes fiddling).  You can find tutorials on YouTube.

  • MacBook Pro 13" Retina enters Sleep Mode again after a few seconds

    Hello!
Well, like the title already says, my MacBook Pro 13" Retina just entered into Sleep Mode again after I exited it. It took a few seconds, during which I could do stuff on it, like write on Messages.app and browse the internet. Then the screen just went black, and after I pressed a few buttons, the login-screen appeared again.
Any idea on what the source of this could be? Is it just a settings-goof (which I still have on default), or is there something major behind it? ^^" Mind you, I'm running it from the battery, it's not plugged into a power supply socket.
    I have version 10.8.4 running.

  • Right speaker on Macbook Pro (with Retina) not working..

Bought Macbook Pro with retina display yesterday and just noticed sounds is only coming from the left speaker. I've checked on system preferences and when I turn the left hand speaker down there is no sound. Is this a manufacturing error or something I need to do?!

    Hi,
Not a lot to go by from the lack of detail in your post, however let me try to help.
[note I may not follo up on your response - just a heads up as i'm very busy [ arent we all]]
Anyway, I bought a HP Pavilliion 500 the other day. and was stoked - awesome machine at a great price locally.
So after plugging in my Altec Lansing 6.1 surround sound speakers using the brown/black/green colour coded input plugs on the back of the PC's audio card (built in) - to correspond with the cables on thealtec lansing, I noticed that 2 speakers were working at the same time, and another speaker did work at all.
I spent about an hour or 2 pulling hair until I finally turned everything off, then plugged it in, then turned n the speakers and then the PC - voila - the speakers were working, one thing I had to do though was move them around as the front right speaker was now the middle etc, no biggy - just moved the speakers around...
PS: there was a siding button on the back n my speakers that allow full 6.1 or stereo - which I hd to change to get it to work.
Also on the altec lansing model I have I had to adjust the surround knob on the main speaker control to #10 for surround for the speakers to work individually.
I hope it helps you somewhat?
Check what inputs you are using. Check the inbuilt sound control software, in my case it was DTS Audio Settings, which allowed me to tweak things a bit.
Sometimes yes it is hardward, but when you know your have "known good speakers"as I did, and a brand new PC - which in theory should handle the speakers I am using, then it can be a combination of trial and error to get them working...
I gues you have the latest drivers, and if you dont have any great input options (ie: if you only have headphones socket) and are using stereo - ty some headphones? - as sometimes it can be the cable socket itself which is just built slightly different so the speakers dont all come thourgh like they should...
    Cheers

  • Macbook Pro 13" will not sleep when I shut the lid

    Hello Community,
This is my first time using the forum. I have a macbook pro 13" 2009 model. Recently I had my MBP connected to an external monitor. I shut the lid while it was connected to the monitor and forgot to turn off my bluetooth mouse. Later that night the mouse was bumped, waking my macbook and setting it to clamshell mode. I put it to sleep again, opened the lid and woke it, but the LCD on the laptop did not turn on. I reset the PRAM and the NVRAM with no luck. I disconnected the monitor, rested the P/NVRAM and it would boot with the laptop screen and once everything was loaded my screen went black and then went to sleep on its own. I tried powering on and off using the P/NVRAM key commands...and nothing. So I opened the bottom case and physically disconnect the battery, reconnected the battery, put the bottom plate back on and powered it up. The screen began working again, now I have a new problem, the MBP WILL NOT sleep when I shut the lid anymore. I even reinstalled the OS and still no luck? If anyone has anything helpful that I could try to get this feature working again it would be much appreciated. If there is some terminal command I could try or some other troubleshooting method. I even put a magnet by the right side of the keyboard to try to trigger the sleep switch.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

I resolved my issue in a very unlikely way. In my earlier post I mentioned that I wiped my hard drive and was starting from scratch. Well I reinstalled windows 7 through bootcamp and it fixed my sleep issue. That's right folks...Windows fixed my mac. I think that it was an EFI issue. I think this because windows 7 uses EFI and during installation it must have reset the sleep values to normal. I feel when you reinstall Mac OSX the EFI partition on the drive should get wiped and reinstalled as well. I also feel that apple should have an option within System Prefs for the user to select what the way is that the computer responds when the lid is shut instead of the ritual of trickery and problems that the clamshell mode can cause.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • MacBook Pro (early 2008) not sleeping after 10.6 upgrade

I upgraded my early 2008 MacBook Pro to 10.6 on Tuesday in what appeared to be a seamless upgrade. Everything works perfectly afterwards except that it now no longer sleeps when left. It will sleep when put to sleep or when the lid is closed but no longer from the Energy Saver settings. I've done a PRAM restart, tried it on power, on battery, with and without drives and networks connected but it stubbornly refuses to sleep. It ALWAYS slept reliably under 10.5 and nothing has been changed apart from the OS upgrade. I can see no untoward processes running in Activity Monitor and am at a complete loss to explain this very frustrating behavior. I would appreciate any help as this has completely ruined an otherwise faultless upgrade!

    Hi-
I had the same problem. Open console in the utilities folder, and look to see if there is an epson file that it is trying to launch. It should look something like this:
    9/9/09 5:13:47 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501216 (com.epson.epw.agent93833) Exited with exit code: 1
    9/9/09 5:13:47 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501216 (com.epson.epw.agent) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
    9/9/09 5:13:57 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501216 (com.epson.epw.agent93834) posix_spawn("/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/EPW/IJEPWAgent.app/Contents/ MacOS/IJEPWAgent", ...): No such file or directory
Snow Leopard changes the epson drivers in /library/printers/epson/inkjetprinter/... to /library/printers/epson/inkjetprinter2/..., and deletes the files that the computer is looking for. The easiest way to fix this is to go to epson's web site and find the driver's download for the picturemate dash (PM260). Under there you will find a universal updater for 10.6-10.6.x. Run this installer (file name is epson13044.dmg) and then restart. Check the console to see if it is trying to launch the file, but you should be good (if this was the source of your problem.)
Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Does the new MacBook Pro with Retina not support Bootcamp?

I've read a couple different reports claiming that Bootcamp is not even installed on the new Retina MacBook Pro. Is this true?

I got Win7 loaded via bootcamp on the new MBPwR.  I think when it first came out, there was issues connecting to download the bootcamp drivers but this has been resolved.  Bootcamp wizard will ask for an os iso image, usb drive.  It will wipe the usb drive.  With Win7 Home and the bootcamp drivers, it took approx. 4.33GB on my usb drive.   You can then choose how large of a partition you want created for windows.  Once windows 7 installer loads, you'll see the bootcamp drive but won't be able to install until you have windows format it.  After windows load, it'll default to vga resolution (think 800 x 600) until you go in and install the boot camp drivers from the WindowsSupport folder of your usb.  It'll load all of the right drivers including nvidia display, touchpad, etc.  Everything seems to work well and you can even run it in full resolution (2880 x 1800) but text will be small. It'll also still push 2 external displays (I have 2 acer 23" connected via hdmi and a thunderbolt to dvi) along with the retina display.  Only concern is that it runs hot in Windows.  Got my cpu core temps to 203 degrees F with when streaming an hd youtube clip, installing cs6, and typing a word doc.  You can see the mac os partition from windows 7 and even open files but it didn't allow me to save the changes since it said I didn't have permissions to do so.   Back in OS X, if you want to read and write to your windows partition, you'll have to load up NTFS-3G, macfuse and a ntfs-3g patch for lion.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Retina Not Charging

My MacBook Pro is not charging. I've plugged in the charger connected to a working power supply and the LED light does not light up like it always does in green. My macbook does not charge; it does not display any "not charging" message too. I need my laptop up quickly to finish a school project! Tried doing the smc reset but it does not work for me :( any advice?

You might not need a whole new charger.

  • Will Not Sleep In Energy Saver Mode

My iMac G5 20" 1.8Ghz will not sleep when I set it to sleep in the energy saver panel. This just started for no specific reason a few months ago. It will sleep fine when selected from the Apple menu. I have been through the discussions and no one seems to have a good fix for this. I have repaired permissions, reset the PRAM and SMU, and tried all the different configurations in energy saver. I called AppleCare and they seemed not to know anything about this issue. They recommened an archive and reinstall of the operating system. I feel this is kind of drastic for this and I have not yet tried it unless I can see that other people have done it and it works. My computer is in the repair program for the power supply problem and it has an updated power supply since the original actually smoked and Apple replaced it. I was wondering if anyone out there has had this same sleep issue and got it resolved?

Well I finally decided to try and delete an application that I suspected could be a problem not allowing my computer to sleep automatically. That application is LAST FM a music service from the UK which is actually quite good. I suspected it was a problem since it would always launch when I opened iTunes and asked if I wanted to share my iTunes library with the LAST FM group which I did not. I selected I did not want to share in the LAST FM preferences but it still opened anyway when I launched iTunes. I deleted the program and repaired disk permissions and *It Worked*, my computer will now go to sleep with the settings I selected in energy saver. I know there are other people out there with this problem I would first look at this application and others that are probably running in the backround causing your computer not to sleep automatically. I am a firm believer in trying to work up from the easiest solution before taking the drastic approach, such as a system reinstall, or a logic board replacement. I did take Nikki's suggestion seriously. My power supply had been replaced in the repair program and my logic board did not meet the criteria for replacement since it was not exibiting the symptoms that required its replacement such as video and power problems.

  • OSX 10.9.1 macbook pro 13 retina - wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse

    Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
    Thanks

    Hello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".

Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • MacBook Pro with Retina Display not hibernating

My MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display doesn't always hibernate when I shut it. A couple of times I've left it shut overnight and when I grab it in the morning the battery is completely drained. All my energy preferences are set to conserve power. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac?  Have you tried another USB cable just in case?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?

  • I can no longer shoot directly into phaseone software since i use my new macbook pro with retina display. pictures are not transfered from the camera into captureone. anyone else with this problem? any solutions?

i can no longer shoot directly into phaseone software - neihter version 6 or 7 - since i use my new macbook pro with retina display. pictures are not transfered from the camera into captureone. anyone else with this problem? any solutions?

My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.
Secondly, this is not the place to vent. If you have a complaint, there is:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    or http://www.apple.com/contact/
We are just end users here helping other end users.
Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.
    Good luck!

Every time my MacBook Pro is put to sleep, it will not connect to the internet upon reopening unless I perform diagnostic assistant.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • I just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and since then put it on 6-7 hours of charging but still my macbook pro is not 100% charged. but why? (green light is displayed on the adapter pin)

i just brought Macbook pro(without retina display) on 15 june 2013 and when i switched it on the battery was 72 % charged and now the battery is charged to 62%, i used the charger that came with it and kept it for 6-7 hours on charging but it is not charged to 100% but why? also the green light is always on when i plug the charger with my mac book pro. Please tell me the meaning of Green light on power cord lid (mac book pro not charging or charging?) and also the other light if there like amber or any other colour.

    Hello Shailendras33,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro!  Thank you for providing all the information about what is going on with the charging issue.
Firstly, I found some information on page 11 of the MacBook Pro User Guide about what each color of the LED means on the Power Adapter:
When you first connect your power adapter to your MacBook Pro, an indicator light on the
MagSafe connector starts to glow.  An amber light indicates the battery is charging.  A green light indicates that the battery is fully charged.
You can find the MacBook Pro User Guide here (this is not for the latest MacBook Pro, but the information about the MagSafe adapter is true for the newest model):
    MacBook Pro User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/macbook_pro_15inch_late_2011.pdf
It sounds like you are not getting the amber light indicating your computer is charging, and you are noticing that the battery level is depleting.  I recommend resetting your System Management Controller when something like this is occurring:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the full article here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
