Macbook Pro 17" 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo problems with OS X Lion

I purchase MBP since 2007 came with OS X Tiger.
After a few years i upgrade to OS X Leopard, OS X Snow Leopard is work great wonderful for my MBP.
I think OS X Lion will be more better for my MBP, after i install Lion is not working with my MBP is always on white screen mode.
Now i really dun know what to do with my MBP, should i format my MBP?
I can't formet my MBP cuz all my data will gone i need help.

Yes, i do not suggest upgrading right now. There is some software malfunction or glitch that spontaneously shuts down this specific model. I upgraded and it was a pain to downgrade and make my mac usable again.

Intel Core Duo is a 32-bit processor, so the latest Mac OS X version you can install is Mac OS X Snow Leopard -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You are running Mac OS X 10.6.8, so you are already running the most recent Mac OS X version for your computer.

    HI..
You can purchase Snow Leopard from the Apple online store >  Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store
Make sure your Mac meets Snow Leopard requirements >  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications

  • Upgrading of Ram for Macbook Pro 15" 2.16GHz core duo

    hi,
anyone here could enlighten me whether i could upgrade my current MBP's Ram from 2 GB to 3 or 4GB? (20pin DDR2)
will there be any issue to my system if i also upgrade my internal Hardisk which is currently a SATA 100GB 7200rpm to maybe a SATA 300GB?

We would have to know which MacBook Pro you have. The most current versions support up to 4GB. The previous Core 2 Duos support up to 3GB. The original Core Duos support up to 2GB.
So far as upgrading your drive. The drive is not considered user replaceable. If you damage something while upgrading your drive, it will not be covered under your warranty (provided your warranty is still in effect). Also... if something fails down the road that requires you send it back to Apple... and they realize you have installed a new drive, there is a chance they may not cover it under warranty either... as there would be no way to tell that the upgrade you had done did not cause a problem that just took some time to show up.

  • Should I fit a SSD or a HD in Macbook Pro 15" 2.4 core duo

I want to fit a new drive in my Macbook Pro 15" 2.4 GHz core duo, Is it worth the extra money to put in a SSD 520GB or would a 1TB or 750GB HD work just as well.  Also I notice that there is a SSD/HD Hybrid available from Crucial will this work.

Those drives are horrible.  Search the forums.  You'll find many people where their drives have failed.

  • 802.11n Enabler Doesn't work with 17" MacBook Pro (2.16) Intel Core Duo

While I would believe that the computer does meet the requirements and that it does have the extreme card and after following the instructions -- checking the network utility ap, etc. It is very strange that you get a "Alert: Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update." So you don't think that I am a fool, I did check the Network Utility and there is no "n" so it was never updated.
Is there any way to do this manually?
    Thanks in advance.

The Core Duo machines don't have the newer Extreme card whose chipset supports 802.11n.
You can do some potentially warranty-voiding surgery, however, to replace the MBP's stock card with the Mac Pro Airport Extreme Upgrade card, which supports 802.11n and is plug-compatible with the MBP's stock card. It's available for $49 from places like PowerMax and Small Dog.

  • Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Core i5 8GB RAM - Constant RAM usage?

    Hi,
I just upgraded my Macbook Pro's RAM to a DDR3 8GB 1067MHz setup that came highly recommended after much research on the topic. My question is, how come in my Activity Monitor I have so much RAM being used at any given time? It doesn't seem to matter if I have ZERO applications or 15 applications open, it's constantly using more than 2GB.
I understand that inactive is just as good as free, but still even including inactive, it's still sucking more than 2GB with nothing open.
On top of that, I run NO virtual machines, yet I have roughly 1GB wired ALL THE TIME.
Now I've read mixed reviews about how OSX Snow Leopard manages RAM, and I have to say, I am concerned with these numbers. Also, I have no page outs, so I don't think I have a RAM stick issue.
Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on here? also if there is a program out there that can manage this better than SL is currently doing (which is a crappy job it seems).
    Thanks in advance.

Francis, let me try to answer your questions.
The 1GB wired is your OSX, and can only be changed if you work at removing some parts that you don't need. I've read where some people have gotten the wired OSX memory down to 600MB, but it doesn't seem to be very productive.
As for having 2GB running, if you remove the 1GB for OSX, then you'll have dozens of tasks still running to do everything from running the monitor to sound to everything else. Moreover, they get into RAM, because there is plenty of room. BUT, if you open applications, some of these processes may grow or shrink depending on needs.
Here is an older article about Mac memory use. It's a bit dated, but pretty accurate.
I personally think you're fine. You have over 6GB available for everything you might do. I run Aperture in 64bit, and 4GB for me is more than fine.

I just purchased a macbook pro retina, I have installed flash and tried everything recommended in previous threads, however, youtube is still requesting I install flash. Any suggestions?

    hienn,
Not yet. There was an upgrade page to 10.8.2 for the late 2012 models but it's down now. I have to assume that Apple pulled it because of some bugs. I would look for something next week, more likely than not. In the meantime, the OP should be good with 10.8.1 until the update shows up again.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro 2.0GHz quad-core Intel i7?

I need to reformat my MacBook Pro 2.0GHz quad-core Intel i7 with OS X Lion with Snow Leopard in order to install Final Cut Pro Studio 2. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi z,
Contact Apple and ask them for the install disc that would have shipped with your machine if Lion had not been released. Others have been successful in obtaining the disc and installing SL.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life)bought in October 2010 in the UK. The charger has stopped working. Which model and voltage do I need please?

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life) bought in October 2010. The charger has been playing up for a while now - the light going out but coming back on when I move the cable a bit - faulty connection it seems. It has now stopped working at all.
Apple UK charge a whopping £65 for a replacement - and the reviews are AWFUL for it!
I need to know which one I need - 45w, 60w and 80w are listed - can someone tell me please? If I'm going to pay this price I want to make sure I get the right one!
Also, is a genuine Apple one available on Amazon UK, does anyone know please?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Meanwhile my battery is going down.....

Thanks for that wjosten. Much appreciated.
I've read here on Apple's site that the 85W version will work, as you say, and that it would run cooler with a 13" Macbook - I have a 13" MBP of course but assume this would be the same with mine. I wonder if running cooler is a good thing (it sounds as if it is) and it would be better for me to get the 85W version than the 60W one?
Then I have to decide whether to pay the (extortionate as it seems to me, though I may be wrong) £65 from Apple (bearing in mind the rotten reviews here of the Apple product), or risk a cheaper alternative from Amazon UK, at around £20 (also with various rotten reviews)... Any suggestions? Please? :-)

  • Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo initiates spontaneous start up from shut down

Peculiar behavior from a "new to me" Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo . Having purchased this from a local chap , I have begun to personalise the device , naturally . I have come across this profoundly unreasonable behavior , if it can be called anything a "Spontanious Start Up" will do for now . Occurring after employing a software shutdown , being previously removed from a power source , this has now twice resulted in indirectly observing that the computer spontaniously started up while I was away from it . This is about the extent of individualistic behavior exercised by the device that I am aware of in its less than one week of welcome into the house .
There is a cat whose legerdemain lies in eating , sleeping , biting , shedding fur , and occasionally reminding mice who is the predator . Smokies interests though vital have not been , aside from attractively swinging , feckless wires , directed towards learning about computers .
If there is an explanation I would certainly be edified in entertaining a cause as none , practically , are apparent to me . Aside from evil malware commanding the computer to do its bidding I have no plausible idea .
That this seems quite contrary to ordinary domestic electronic device behaviors , with no results in an identical google search . This issue strikes me as presenting a possible unfriendly , specifically unwanted , idiosyncracies .
Thank you for taking the time to read this . FRP

It might deteriorate until the button doesn't work at all, or it might not. It will just be annoying in the mean time.
As far as the console logs go, I've never been able to identify this particular issue by trawling through them. And I think the reason for that is that it just logs it as Power On / Shutdown.
Aside from that there really isn't anything I can think of that would help you diagnose this problem further.
