MacBook Pro 17" Black Display

Question

I tried to wake my MBP from sleep and have a completely black screen and it's unresponsive. I've tried a number of solutions I've found on here, but none seem to work, including:
1) access the /private/var/vm/ directory on the nonworking computer from the working computer. This is invisble so you will have to press cmdshiftg in the finder and go to /volumes/YOURHARDDISKNAME/private/var/vm to get there or use an application that lets you view invisble folders like PathFinder.
2) delete the sleepimage file
3) delete the /system/library/extensions.mkext file
4) eject the drive (drag to the trash)
5) press the power button to turn off the non working computer
6) turn the nonworking computer back on normally(cross your fingers) then if it works,
7) open up the the terminal.app in /applications/utilities
8) type sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
9) make sure there is no sleepimage file again
When I've truned the computer back on, the display doesn't work, even with fingers crossed, and when I hook it up to my G5 to see what's happening, the sleepimage file is back, as is the mkext file. (I emptied the trash afer deleting them, too.)
I tried entering the file into Terminal, but this doesn't seem to work either, unless I'm doing it wrong.
Any other thoughts?

Yes, thanks, I saw that, but think I might be just outside the production timings, so was trying other things, too. I may have to take it in for service to find out, though.
