Macbook Pro 2.16 memory

I bought a macbook pro 2.16 off a friend a couple of years ago. It came with 2gigs of RAM. I recently received 2 2gig sticks from my girlfriend out of her busted macbook pro. I understand that my machine will only (supposedly) recognize 3gigs. However, after installing the RAM, System Profiler tells me that there are 4gigs in there, recognizing the 2 gig sticks in each slot. Is it only using 3 gigs, even though it says it recognizes 4? Or is it somehow actually using all 4?

Cool. Thanks. Just wanted to be sure. The guy who sold it to me left on there the entire Adobe CS 4 Suite. Stinks that I can barely use much of it because of the lack of memory. Rendering a video on Adobe Premiere with 2gigs is a bear. A very slow and sloppy bear.
Not sure that 4 would be that much better, but still ...
Oh well.

You need to purchase 8 GBs as two 4 GB modules. Must meet these requirments:
    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

By memory, do you mean space on your hard disk?
If so, here is one resource:
Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk
Or do you really mean memory - i.e,, RAM?
In any case, what occurs that makes you think your "memory" is gone?

  • Macbook pro out of memory!

bought a MacBook Pro 13 inch in november 2011 and it is now telling me my start up disk is full, so is there any way i can either free a lot of space or upgrade the memory capacity?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
    See Lion's Storage Display.
You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
If you cannot solve the problem sufficiently then you need to replace the drive with a larger capacity drive.

  • Macbook Pro late 2008 Memory upgrade Issue

    Dear Gurus,
I have a late 2008 15" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz  with 2 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 installed, I just brought a pair of corsair (2*4GB) DDR3 (CMSO4GX3M2A1333C9) memory upgrade and installed it in my macbook pro. I'm running OS-X Lion 10.7.1 before the upgrade now in About This Mac menu show that I have 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and everything seem to be ok only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen. Question: Is the Ram upgrade is OK or I need to return the Ram and get the 1066 Mhz to replace my 2 Gb Ram. How can my mac report that I have 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram while the system only at 1066 Mhz bus
    Best regards,

RAM will clock back to match the system bus as long as it's otherwise compatible. Reporting utilities tend to read the RAMs design speed.
    It it works, ignore it.
As for this part of your question:
only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen.
that's normal. The OS does a "power-in self test" or "POST" at startup that includes RAM checking. The more RAM installed, the longer the test takes. You quadrupled you RAM, so the increase in start time does not surprise me.

  • Macbook Pro (late 2008) memory upgrade problem

    Hi,
    I have an Macbook Pro (late 2008) 15'' 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3, GeForce 9400m/9600M GT
4GB ram are by default. I tried to upgrade ram to 8GB, but my MBP doesn't recognize more than 4GB.
At Apple website I found information that maximum supported RAM memory is 4GB (which means that I cannot upgrade my MBP with 8GB of RAM), what isn't ok because it is a Pro machine. Are there some chipset drivers upgrade or BIOS firmware upgrade to let notebook to be able to has 8GB?

At Apple website I found information that maximum supported RAM memory is 4GB...
Yes, and that same information appeared in the specifications for your machine when you decided to buy it, and also in the owner's manual that came with it. So it's not a surprise — or at least it shouldn't be.
In spite of that information, and without support from Apple, you can put 6GB of RAM into it in the form of one 2GB and one 4GB module.

  • Macbook Pro (early 2011) memory upgrade options

What are my memory upgrade options with a Macbook Pro (early 2011, 2.2 GHx Intel Core i7), currently with 4 GB of memory (2 GB X 2) of 1333 MHz DDR3 (PC3-10600S)? My manual says I'm limited to 4 GB x 2 = 8 GB of memory. Does that mean that the 8 GB X 2 = 16 GB option that's available will not work in my Macbook Pro?

MacBook Pro 15 inch Early 2011
    You can install 16GB (2 x 8GB modules) in a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2011 model.
    Apple tested with only 8GB (2 x 4GB modules).

  • Will it hurt my Macbook Pro to add memory?

I currently have 4 GB of RAM in the Macbook Pro 15" mid-2010 and I just want to take one of the chips out and put in a 4GB chip in, making me have 6GB of memory. Will this hurt the computer's performance to not have equal amounts of memory on each side? I only want to upgrade because im constantly getting down to about 8mb's of ram and it slows the whole computer.

More RAM is always beneficial but you add more, Mavericks will use it the same way - all it can. This is by design.
If you are running programs that require a lot of RAM they will continue to do so. To determine if a lack of RAM is resulting in performance degradation examine the value for "Swap Used". If it is zero, the fact that you are using all 4 GB is of absolutely no consequence.
If Swap Used is greater than zero find out what app or process is so demanding. Some applications, the most popular of which seems to be Google Chrome, are notorious resource hogs that will slow down your Mac no matter how much RAM you install. Other "optimizing" or "cleanup" or "security" or "anti-virus" junk will also result in needlessly burdening your system.

  • Macbook Pro with 6gb memory?

    Hi Members,
I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2009 2.26ghz with 2gb of installed memory..I have purchased a 4gb ram recently..Will i be able to utilize my existing 2gb ram along with the 4gb ram i have purchased at the same time on my Macbook to make an effective of 6gb ram on my machine?
    Appreciate any inputs of yours..

Yes you can do that, although the non matching ram sticks might provide a slight decrease in performance.  It can't hurt to try it.

  • MacBook Pro with the memory too much used by ReportCrash ...

Suddenly disk space has decreased rapidly

The cause of this problem was due to an incompatibility between NODE32 V 4.0.5x and my MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3).
I solved it with a new version of NODE32 (ESET Cyber Security) V 5.0.108.0.
To delete the huge log files that had accumoled during the repeated crash of the previous version of NODE32, I used alternately OnyX and Trash. It!, Especially the second it was very useful.

  • My MacBook Pro has no memory left..

    Hello,
I don't know a bunch about fixing my MacBook. Nor have I ever had a problem with anything until recently. I mainly have just media (music, photos,Movies) stored on my laptop.. I am trying to update my computer softwear and all that but when I do it's telling me that I have no room/memory left to do so. Neither can I save any music, pictures.. I can't even backup my iPhone or iPad to my iTunes.. Just looking for someone who has some tips or can give me some useful information on how to free up room on my Mac and get rid of all the unneeded files that have accumulated over time.. Without deleting files that are needed on the mac and so forth.. As I said I'm not very educated on the system, how it works or what do do with this kinda stuff.. Any help would be awesome cause I wanna get this cleaned up and over with asap.
    Thank you!
