Macbook Pro 2,2 ghz intel, black screen at startup

Hi
I have a problem with my Macbook Pro.. It was hooked up to my TV through DVI, and after turning it off, the screen went black. I know the computer turns on, since I can log on to it from my other mac through screen sharing. Through the screen sharing i can see that it cant find my graphic card. I have reset both PRAM, and SMC, nothing helped.. Can anyone PLEASE help me... It seems like that there is something wrong with the graphic card.

Hi, Heydari, and welcome to the forums.
Sounds like a classic case of the NVidia 8600 GPU issue.
see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 for details of the free extended repair program for this problem. It requires replacement of the logic board.
Cheers
Rod

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

System preferences and the dock isn't set up to start safari. Can't figure out why this is happening. Had reloaded system from scratch and noticed this happening lately.

Remove iAntiVirus, then reboot, see if it's better.

  • Will the ram from a "macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo" work in a "MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7"

I have a 2008? MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB ram.  Can I use 2 GB ram from the old machine in a new MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7 ?
    /bc

    Very likely not.
RAM gets improved over time like everything else, so if the RAM is too old it won't be compatible with newer machines.
TO confirm, use Crucial.com and punch in each machine, then read the RAM requirements and specifications, if they match, then your good.
But I'm willing to bet they won't be beause of the age difference between the two machines.

You need a "Core 2 Duo" for lion, and I'm guessing you only have a "Core Duo"  My wife's macbook is also a "Core Duo" and has Snow Leapord, but cannot install Lion.....

Snow Leopard is still the most efficient OSX from Apple.  I have a late 2011 MBP running Lion with no performance issues.
I suggest the following;  Install 8 GB RAM if you do not have that already.  (The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial).  The newer OSX's are trifle more RAM hungry.
Partition your HDD and install one of the newer OSX's in the new partition and try it out.  This allows you to 'retreat' to Snow Leoprad if you find the newer OSX is not to your liking.
Also note that the newer OSX's do not support PPC applications.  That means that there is a possibility that some of your current applications will not work and may have to be updated or replaced.
    Ciao.

Do you have AppleCare? Even if you don't, take to the Apple store and tell them what happened. They should help even though it's a few months out of warranty. You might have to talk to a manager or different higher up.

  • MacBook Pro Locks up w/ unresponsive Black Screen, Stuttering sound.

    Hello,
Having searched high and low, I can't seem to find a solution to my predicament.
I have a Mid-2010 15" i5 MacBook Pro, and when I run programs that kick my GPU onto the nVidia card, I will randomly get a completely black screen. This is not apparently the more common "black screen of doom" because I cannot do anything at all to the computer - I see no mouse pointer, I can't adjust the screen intensity, and the only resolution is to force shutdown and reboot. My sound also loops the last second or so of audio if anything was playing at that time, and the force shutdown produces a audible 'pop' most times, which sounds like it might be from the HD. When I do so I get a message about Mac OS X unexpectedly crashing, and a check of the Console seems to indicate that it's some sort of kernel panic. I've reset PRAM, SMC, etc and run all the normal disk checks and nothing has come up. It's only been repeatable when I put the computer to sleep, then log back in, and log into a Minecraft server. It has happened on other occasions randomly, such as when Safari had chewed up a great deal of RAM, or during when I was playing Oolite. It would appear, judging by the amount of time each one of these instances takes, that it's something to do with RAM usage possibly, but the kernel log indicates something might be awry on the nVidia card side of things.
Here's the log. I'm really at a loss here, and this is quite annoying to keep losing my work when I happen to absentmindedly open a game up after a long session of writing, etc. I'm afraid that ultimately I'm going to have to take it into the shop, but as a college student with no nearby Apple store, I just can't afford to not have it with me - I'm using it constantly for my work.

    Hi there, GoreLeech,
as per above extract from your error log, you have experienced a kernel panic due to problems with your Nvidea GeForce GT 330 M graphics card that has a 256 MB memory.
This may be due to the card not having enough memory for what you are doing, the only thing, I can suggest here is to call Apple, and get the machine checked out. You can run the Apple hardware test at home but I'd recommend getting it booked in with Apple. What is worse: A computer that randomly malfunctions, or doing without it for up to one week (often they repair it within a day!)?

  • Macbook Pro won't start-up (black screen)

    Hello,
I'm having some problems with starting my Macbook Pro
specs of my macbook pro are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP13 (15,4 inch 2,2 ghz)
My macbook pro won't start up anymore, i press the start-up button, it makes the 'krie'-sound then the vans start spinning slowly and then he get's quiet. (screen stays black and the light at the mousepad is on).
    I tried:
-Connect it to power and wait 15 min. then try again -> same result
    - hardware test (installation disc 1 and then press d) -> screen stays black but the disc starts spinning
    - pram-reset, -> same result
the only thing i didn't do is check if my ram-sticks are still in position (i never bought new ram, but maybe it started to get loose)
    what to do?

Just google Nvidia 8600m, and problem, or oh god my screen is dead, and see what comes up.
Once again, if you have a Macbook Pro from mid-late 2007, chances are you have a bad chip. They will replace your logic board, with another bad chip, which may or may not go bad. It's an obvious issue, Nvidia admits they have a problem, and Apple is just going to quietly resolve individual problems.
If your computer turns on but the screen doesn't, it's about 99% likely it's the GPU. Go ahead and let Apple replace it. Oh, and if you have a MBP from that time period and don't have apple care. GET IT NOW. You will most likely have a Black Screen Of Death at some point, and Apple care is cheaper than the repair (which may or may not work). Some people have gone though three logic boards. Good luck.

  • Help MacBook Pro 13" early 2011 suddenly black screen in Windows 7 SP1. EFI 2.2.

Hi, everyone, I need help here.
Apple MacBook Pro 13" early 2011 preinstall Lion version, EFI 2.2, Boot Camp 4.0. suddenly black screen in Windows 7 SP1 (black screen and also no sound at all, need to press power button to off). What happen?? Please someone tell me what to do?
I have delete bootcamp HD and reinstall windows 7 but the problem is still here, I have reset PRAM and SMC too.
The video on the black screen: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3dLTFSD-v8)

Oh I actually have the problem in Mac OS, not even using the Bootcamp or Windows 7

I am having the exact same problem with my 13" early 2011 Macbook Pro. I have 10.6.8. I used the disk that came with the laptop to restore the OS to 10.6.7 but the problem existed there too. I have now updated it back to 10.6.8. The problem still exists. This doesn't seem to be limited to an OS version and seems like an issue with device driver or with hardware. I will try to take it to the Apple store and see if this gets resolved.
You too have a black screen in Windows 7. ?

  • Macbook Pro Early 2009 Randomly Sleeps / Black Screen While In use

My macbook pro Early 2009, randomly goes to sleep while I am using the computer, I first noticed it occuring while I was using the mini display adapter to a computer monitor, and using a second monitor and watching a movie, the screen would go blank and I would have to wake it from sleep for it to come back on, sometimes closing the lid, sometimes pressing the trackpad, or keyboard to get it to work again, sometimes it would go back to sleep within 1 minute of waking.
I assume the problem could have been from perhaps water damage, as I recently used a wet paper towel to clean my keyboard, and perhaps the paper towel was a little to moist, not overly but perhaps just enough to damage the sleep sensor. I am still unsure where that is located, the only other problem I have noticed with the computer is my [battery service indicator] notification has been on for the last year, but since I never used the battery, I always have it plugged in at the desk I never bothered getting it serviced. So
I'm assuming its the Sleep Sensor? but here is what I hace done, just to make sure its not software. I was orignaly running 10.8, and after being frustrated while watching a movie and having my computer sleep every 2 minutes, I whipped my hardrive, put 10.9 developers preview on a usb and installed that.
On 10.9 I can swipe with 3 fingers on the trackpad and the display appears but if i let go of the swipe it goes back to black screen.
I can see Icons like, brightness, and sound, when adjusting the levels, but screen is black behind the icons
The mouse pointer cursor is visible but the screen is black
I can move the mouse and hear system sounds, but screen is black. Now I have to actually restart the computer because It seems like I cannot wake it up at all.
So I formatted the hardrive again and
I tried reinstalling Leopard OSX , as that was the disc that came with the mac,
but have Same problems in 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 I upgraged to developer 10.9 to see if the problem would fix, but still occurs.
I ran hardware diagnostic off the leopard disc 2, by pressing the D key on startup with disc in drive, extended hardware test reported no problems.
I SMC reset and PRAM reset,  [control]+[option]+[shift]+[powerbutton] while computer is turned off with power plugged in
and after that failed I tried pressing [Option]+[Command]+[P]+[R] before startup chime, chime repeat let go of keys and it booted normally.
Then computer randomly sleeps while in use, while using safari and it has happened 3 times within 2 minutes of typing this.
I have downloaded a program called InsomniaX, and activated the disable sleep for Lid and Idle, but now the screen will randomly just go black and then turn back on, sometimes it will just black screen for 10 seconds and come back on, altho after changing some more of the settings It appears to be not as frequent. It hasen't gone to sleep since writing this entire paragraph, so thats a good sign.
I was going to take it into the apple store, and have them run diagnostics, but I hate going into those stores because of all the iphone people, crowding the place.
Well my screen just blacked and came back within 10 seconds on while I typing this line so InsomniaX didn't work. I hope having the sleep sensor replaced isn't too expensive, or if my model even has such a sensor.
I read on another topic that this problem can be replicated by users putting a magnet on their laptop, something like an iphone or a money clip or even having one of these in their pocket while using the macbook on their lap. I have not had anything near the computer, so I have a different problem.
Just thought Id document this, will let you know what happens after the diagnostic, I tried apple support, and they said I did more than they would have done, so he couldn't really tell me anything besides take it into genius bar, (is that what its still called) and have them run diagnostic, [note its different than the hardware test on the cd]
and my computer screen goes black again, wow..

Hi pictureswithPS, welcome to Apple Discussions!
    1. I have an original late-2008 unibody MBP that was purchased a week after the introduction. I have never had a single "black screen of death" ever, and I do some gaming under OS X on my machine. The heat issues are, in my humble opinion, greatly exaggerated. Does the machine get warm? Yes. However, any computer with this much power in this thin of an enclosure is going to get warm. Mine has never crashed, frozen, black screened, etc. once.
    2. I don't think PS is particularly intensive on the graphics card. It may use the graphics card, yes, but I don't think it will be quite as intensive as a 3D modeling application or 3D games. I would doubt you would ever run into problems anyway.
    3. Lastly I am aware that their are tools to manage fan speed behavior - as a workaround to cool down temperatures. Using this software would it void the warranty that is provided by Apple?
No, it wouldn't likely void the warranty. However, if your fans die prematurely as a result of running them at high speeds for extended periods of time, I doubt Apple would be especially happy about replacing them. I do not use any 3rd party tools to manage my fans, and never will. It is simply not necessary.

  • What versions of Adobe Reader will *really* work with Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro 2.16 ghz Intel Core2 Duo?

Below is a list of your minimum requirements for Mac for versions 9-11 of Adobe Reader:
Please note that my operating system is neither explicitly included or excluded and "or later" is not used in your info below.  Perhaps Adobe can manage to inform its users properly or own up to issues (note the many others asking the same unanswered question in many venues, including these forums)?  My AR updater will not update beyond AR9.5.5.
I am also having other sudden issues related to .pdf creation from MS Word docs, which I will address in a separate post.
Thank you for a prompt and courteous reply.
    Adobe Reader XI system requirements
These system requirements are for Adobe® Reader® XI software, v11.0. Because system requirements change with each software update, refer to the Release Notes for your software version for the latest information on supported operating systems and browsers. Technical specifications are also available for the mobile version of Adobe Reader.
    Mac OS
    Intel® processor
    Mac OS X v10.6.4, v10.7.2, or v10.8
    1GB of RAM
    350MB of available hard-disk space
    1024x768 screen resolution
    Safari 5.1 for Mac OS X v10.6.8 or v10.7.2; Safari 5.2 for Mac OS X v10.8; Safari 6.0 for Mac OS X v10.7.4 or v10.8

Your Mac may be too old and may be limitied to Lion or maybe even Snow Leopard
    1. Check your Mac hardware.
To get details about your Mac model, click the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, choose About This Mac, then choose More Info. These Mac models are compatible with OS X Yosemite:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
The early 2006 can go to Snow Leopard
    The late 2006 to Lion
    later ones to Yosemite
In any event, 2 GB would result in slow performance

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Crashes with a black screen when under heavy graphical load.

It loops any sounds that were playing and all keys are unresponsive.  Only way to stop is a hard restart.  I have already tried repairing permissions both with the Disk Utility under OSX AND with the installer CD.  I noticed that this also happens in safe mode.  This occurs in applications such as Starcraft II, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Half Life 2.  I am a college student and unable to gain acces to an Apple Store so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.  I have boot camp installed (I have read that having boot camp on another partition may cause this problem).  Yes the error occurs when under the OSX environment, I have the most up to date software updates.  Here is an error code produced after my hard restart (if it helps):

I took the OSX update in the beginning of November and now when I lift up the lid of the notebook and press 'on' I get a black screen and can't even see the cursor.  I've tried pressing command + control + p + r.  I've also tried command + s.  Neither seems to fix this issue.  Are there any other suggestions to try?  Thanks in advance.
