Macbook pro 2.2 screen won't turn on... sometimes

as soon as i start the computer on batteries, i can hear the start up sound but the screen seems to be off (actually i know it is on, but on minimun brightness). if i plug it to the ac power it usually solves the problem in a few minutes.
contacted apple support twice, they asked me to reboot with altapple+rp keys pressed, and also to remove the battery and keep the power button pressed for 5 seconds.
nothing.
i ran the system diagnostics, and not a problem reported.
at the macfixit forums someone mentions the mbp pro needs a firmware update...

The green light indicates that the battery is not being charged.  What happens when you press the external battery check button on the end of the MBP?
Ciao.

Ummmm no it didn't.  iOS only runs on iPhones, iPads and iPods.

  • So I have a MacBook Pro 2013. That won't turn on and won't charge.

So I have a MacBook Pro 2013. That won't turn on and won't charge. When the charger is plugged in the light remains green as if it is fully charge. Before it died the laptop still recognized the charger but wouldn't charge. And now won't turn on.

If you've a 2013 model, depending on when you purchased the machine, I would suppose that you're still under warranty or at least purchased AppleCare? Regardless, I would take the kit to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose the computer (and, if you're still under warranty, fix the computer) and, if necessary, give you an estimate for repair.
There are all sorts of things that could be wrong - a faulty adapter, bad cabling, even the entire electrical circuitry may have gone bad.
You won't know unless you had an Apple tech look it over.
    Good luck,

  • My Macbook Pro starts beeping and won't turn on. Any ideas?

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro.  It now won't turn on even though the light goes on.  It also makes a beeping noise that won't stop until I force it to shut down.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Normally - one would think that your RAM went bad if it's 3 beeps.
It could also mean that macbook can not find any valid os installed.
Have you recently upgraded your RAM?  if so - take them out and install the old one back and see what happens.
if however, you never upgraded your RAM - best suggestion is to take it to Apple and have them take a look at it.

  • Macbook Pro shut off and won't turn on or charge?

I purchased my Macbook Pro August 1st 2012 at Best Buy and in April it shut off for no reason and it wouldn't charge. Apple replaced the battery cable and my Macbook worked for a couple of weeks, then in May same thing happened and Apple replaced the MLB, a couple days later the same thing happens and Apple replaces the Magsafe board with cable. Then a few days later specific keys on the keyboard stop working and Apple replaces the topcase with keyboard. Now 120 days later my Macbook Pro shuts off and won't charge for the 4th time. My Macbook is now out of warranty but I don't think I should pay since this is the 4th time my MacBook Pro shuts off for no reason and won't charge. Yes I already tried reseting the smc, still didn't work. What could be causing this and is there anyway Apple will cover this since is the 4th time it shuts off for no reason?

Call Apple Customer relation and explain your situation. Have your receipts for the work that was already preformed on it and ask them to replace it with a new unit.

  • Fixing MacBook Pro For Friend - Now Won't Turn On - HELP!

    Good Afternoon -
When it comes to computers, I'm basically a PC guy.  I"m a network admin for a big company and work with Windows all day.  I'm an advid iPhone / iPad user too, though, and do a bit with OSX.
Yesterday, a friend at work and I were talking about his MacBook pro.  He inquired about a few things including Windows 7 on it.  I said I'd be happy to set up BootCamp for him.  While at it, he said that he had purchased a Lion USB drive and asked if he should upgrade.  I've done thousands of Windows installs and a few OSX ones so I said I'd do it for him.
Today, I received his MacBook Pro (Late 2008) 2.4 Intel Dual Core CPU / 2GB RAM, his software, and the Lion USB key.  I booted into OSX and copied his "profile" over the network to a SMB share.  I tried upgrading directly with Lion, but it wouldn't let me as I found out it had to be upgraded from 10.6.X - not 10.5.X.  Therefore, I decided to do a clean install.
I booted to the 10.7 Lion USB drive and went into Disk Utility where I erased the hard drive.  I only erased it - didn't repartition or change drive's format.  Before proceeding, I thought I'd be nice and go one step further for this guy and install new RAM into his computer.  It was 2x 2GB SO-DIMM 667MHZ RAM which I read would work with it and double his RAM to bring it to 4gb.  I installed it.
    The Problem
I turned the computer back on with the Lion USB in and only got a white screen.  The cursor appeared, but nothing else.  I thought that since there wasn't an OS on the HDD, that it would default to the next boot device as PCs do, but it didn't.  I turned it off, then back on again - except - it didn't come back on!
    So that's where I am.  I have a friend's computer which won't turn on.
Note:  The battery is bad I've been told and will always show only 1 light of power.  The power cord is good, though.
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - Removed the battery / power cord for 5 minutes
    - Tried with just the power inserted (Get green light on power cord)
    - Reinserted original RAM (actually did that first and it has stayed that way during all T/S)
    - Swapped RAM into other's socket
    - Removed battery & Power - held the power button down for 10 seconds - reinserted and tried to power back on
    - Got Stressed!!!
Any suggestions would be great - Thanks!!!

  • Macbook Pro wifi stops working, won't turn back on, requires restart to fix?

So for the last two days my Macbook Pro's being doing something very strange. At random times, the wifi will just stop working (as in it thinks I have wifi but no webpages load anymore and my dropbox can't sync) and when I go to turn the wifi off and back on (in an effort to restart the chip thinking it would solve the issue), it won't turn back on. I go into the System Preferences, hit "turn wifi on" and nothing happens. I hit it about 10 times and that does absolutely nothing. I've then tried putting my mac to sleep and waking it back up, which delivers even stranger results; The wifi turns back on, but can't find any networks, both using scan and manually inputting the details of my network. So far the only fix for it is to just restart my Mac and then the wifi works just fine like nothing ever happened (until it happens again, usually a few hours later). I'm currently running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 on a 15" early 2011 Macbook Pro (MC723LL/A) with 2.2 GHz quad-core i7 and a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD. The most recent modifications I've made are just installing GDB debugger and creating a custom certificate for it to be able to run Eclipse C/C++ IDE on my Mac, but I seriously doubt that would have caused the issue (especially since that was running for a few days before this happened). Has anyone else had a problem like this?

So many people are having this problem. I believe I have solved it. I posted it on another thread, but I will post it here:
First - let me say that I tried trashing the bluetooth preferences and restarting. That worked for about 10 minutes, then I also tried reorder the connections in Network Preferences, that didn't do much either.
Here's what worked: Open System Preference, click on "Energy Saver", uncheck "Wake for network access". This has totally worked for me. I connect flawlessly and immediately to my network and to my printer.
My order of connectivity of network devices is still ordered where Bluetooth is near the last of the devices. But really, try deselecting "Wake for network access"

  • Macbook Pro Fuzzy Green Screen & Won't Install Mavericks

    Hello
I've had my Macbook Pro 15 Inch since late 2011 and recently i've been getting this Green Screen that fuzz's & shows up randomally, so i uninstalled Mavericks and tried to reinstall it ever since i'd been having this problem. It won't reinstall and i need a little bit of help getting it fixed.

    Have your friend try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
And, be sure there is at least 20 GBs of free space on the hard drive for the installation.

  • Macbook Pro in moist conditions: won't turn on anymore?

    Hi Everyone,
I wanted to start this thread to ask a few questions about a current problem. I bought a macbook pro in January of this year and love it. Problem is, the laptop stopped turning on just yesterday. I am currently in the UK on business and the laptop stopped working, so I brought it to the local Apple Store here. They opened it up and found that there was corrosion on the board and that there was water damage on the laptop. I have never spilt any sort of liquid on this machine directly, nor have I had it in direct contact with any water, juices, etc. This is a brand new laptop with about 20 work hours on it. I brought it out to work 3 weeks ago, and work in the Offshore Oil Industry in Canada, and frequently use my laptop for work and personal use while i'm out there. Being on a vessel in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, it IS a moist environment, but would this have any affect on the performance of the laptop? I am devestated to have paid so much money for this product, and only get 4 months out of it, only to have it stop working....
Any suggestions on a solution for this?

So as ORGELTHORPE says you could be very judicious about where you use the computer.
I also wonder whether a hydrophobic treatment like this would be helpful:
    http://inhabitat.com/liquipels-hydrophobic-nanocoating-makes-gadgets-completely- waterproof/
There have been many of these show up recently.
You could also create a special environment using a dissicant such as silica gel and a forced air environment to dry, desalinize the air before the computer sees it.
There are companies that apparently deal with this all the time:
    http://www.way-technovation.com/
A small consumer dehumidifier might actually do the job. Don't know about the power on an oil rig.
The worst case I ever saw was a client who lived downwind from the active volcano in Hawaii. Air high in sulphuric and nitric acid turns out to be very detrimental to electronics and humans.

  • MacBook Pro shuts down and won't turn on

  • I just got a MacBook pro 2008 and it won't turn on. the seller left it in the office since 2014 September still in good shap. all trouble shooting tip seems not to work. battery and charger seems ok.

    hi,
just got a MacBook pro 2008 from a friend who bought it online. When it came we tested it and it was working. The person he wanted to supply changed his mind and my friend left the mac in the office cabinet since late last year. I decided to buy it and when I tried to turn it on it wouldn't. I charged the battery fully and checked if it was ok. I tried smc and nvram reset yet no sound or beep or any sign of life. There are no apple store around where I live in Nigeria now.
    thanks

  • MacBook Pro shut down and won't turn on

Hi, my laptop (only a month old) said it needed to restart in order to finish updating OS X, leaving it briefly I went into the kitchen and when I came back I watched as the screen appeared to be going into sleeping mode but upon closer inspection it turned itself off. Now even though it was 100% charged and plugged in won't turn back on. If anyone has tips would be much appreciated, it is the beginning of the week and I won't be able to get to a mac store until the weekend due to my classes.
    Thanks

Ensure the mac is plugged in.
Hold the power button down and keep it pressed down while you count to 10, then release.
Press the power button once and immediately release. The mac should not start to boot up as normal.

  • MacBook Pro Early 2008 - screen will not turn on

I put my MBP to sleep last night as usual (via Finder). This morning when I opened the lid, I heard the familiar sound of the superdrive being accessed but then nothing. The screen would not turn on. I have tried several hard restarts using the power button but always the same result (no screen). I tried resetting the SMC but no luck. Reseated the RAM, nope. The battery is fully charged (battery test shows all lights on). Not sure what else to try short of taking it in to the local Apple retailer. I don't have AppleCare for it.
I'm aware of the possibly of the NVIDIA no video issue (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377) and something I will mention if I have to take it in for the tech to look at. However, I was not having any video issues before this happened.

If you qualify, you will not need AppleCare!  Just take your MBP in for repairs.

  • My new MacBook Pro shut down and won't turn on.

I connected it to the charger and there is no light to indicate that it's charging . What do I do ? Should I be really worried ? I just got it about a month ago

If your machine won't charge, you could try an SMC reset - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 - and, if that doesn't work and since you're still under warranty, take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose and fix the computer.
