Macbook Pro 2.2ghz

Hey all, i just got a macbook pro (nice upgrade from my macbook). I was wondering how this machine will run games like COD 2 and Tiger Woods. Any input would be great.
Thanks

Should work fine. Your MBP has a dedicated graphics circuit, unlike your old MacBook.

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

  • Will the ram from a "macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo" work in a "MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7"

I have a 2008? MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB ram.  Can I use 2 GB ram from the old machine in a new MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7 ?
    /bc

    Very likely not.
RAM gets improved over time like everything else, so if the RAM is too old it won't be compatible with newer machines.
TO confirm, use Crucial.com and punch in each machine, then read the RAM requirements and specifications, if they match, then your good.
But I'm willing to bet they won't be beause of the age difference between the two machines.

  • MacBook Pro 2.2GHz -- which exactly Intel CPU is in there?

I've been reading the wikipedia on the differences and details on the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo CPUs and it made me thinking what model number of Intel CPU have I got in my system?
I've checked the specs both on the product pages as well as in the support section and they only read that it's got the Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz CPU, no details.
Does anyone know? Can anyone with MBP 2.2Ghz system and Windows on it run CPUz and report back here with the CPU details?
    thanks!

I believe, on Apple's specifications for the MacBook Pro, it says what kind of processor it is...if it doesn't, there's surely ways to find out.
That's how the poster found out what kind of computer processing unit is packaged with the MacBook Pro. He then linked you after finding the processor on that page. It's quite simple, really.
Google It you may find some info.

  • Logic Pro 8 with Macbook pro 2.2Ghz or 2.4Ghz

I'm about to purchase a new Macbook Pro and LP8.
At the moment I can't afford to buy the MBP 2.4Ghz, but rather the 2.2Ghz.
Is it going to be a significant difference in performance between the 2.2Ghz and 2.4Ghz model when using LP8?
I'm very eager to build a small studio as soon as possible.
I understand that the Mac Pro would be best to use with LP8, but I wan't to have it compact and portable.
    Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forums. My experience with the MBP 2.4 has been great. With a 5400 rpm drive though it's really not much faster than a 2.0 7200 G5.
Since the memory can now be upgraded to 4GB on all the models it's not going to make a huge difference. But the HD speed does make a difference when it's running slower. If you get the 2.2 you're going to want to think about upgrading the HD.
The 160GB HD in these MBP models are using a new technology developed by Fujitsu that employs perpendicular spinning drives: touted for their speed under pressure and I can attest to that. They really do fly under a load so it makes up for the lack of rpm or processor speed potentially.
Here is another option for an HD that would fit to a T. Personally the only thing that deters me from this one is that for one it's 179 but also because the battery life with it is somewhat lessened.
But I point that out along with the shop OWC which is a super place for Mac upgrades to give you an idea of what's possible. So I would say if you can eventually get around to putting a drive of that caliber in your MBP then 2.2 or 2.4 isn't going to mean much. And the memory as well you're going to want at least 3GB. I've got 4 from OWC that perform quite well.
    Good Luck,

  • MacBook Pro 2.2GHz SR freezing

My MacBook Pro 15" (Santa Rosa chipset) freezes occasionally.
At first I thought it was a problem when connecting an external display, but it happens even when I have not hooked anything to the DVI port. The freezes occur in plain OS X (not a game or anything special) and I think I have traced the issue to something related to the graphics card. Each time the system freezes, I have the following error in the system.log
    Jan 15 16:27:40 Suuuju kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel timeout!
The MacBook passes the Apple Hardware Test in both the default setting and the extended test without a problem. I also tried MemTest in a single-user environment and the Mac passes that too.
The problem could be heat-related in some way because when the MacBook freezes, its base (the underside towards the screen) is on the hot side. Most times I had an internet video (for instance YouTube) playing or some other Flash animation in Safari. I can reproduce the problem pretty consistently by opening one pretty intensive Flash site. www.group94.com is the site in question, and if you go Work at the top there (click cut the crap at the bottom after that) and open for instance the Experiences + Web Campaigns sections, there is some pretty intensive graphics action. After 10-20 minutes on this, the MacBook would freeze.
The freezes are like this: the screen is completely frozen (cursor not moving), but if there is an iTunes track playing it would continue playing. Also the Caps Lock and the Num Lock buttons work (i.e. they light-up their respective diodes). Command + Option + Esc does nothing.
My full MacBook Pro specifications are as follows
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B05
    SMC Version: 1.16f10
    Mac OS X Leopard, 10.5.1 fully up-to-date
Please, if anyone has info on the problem or a possible solution... please let me know.

I have the exactly same problem and it's driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2007 MacBook Pro 2.2GHz A1226 Kernel Panic after 10.8.3 install

Started getting KP's after installing 10.8 for a client. Here's my steps thus far with the KP log at the bottom of my post.
    2007 non-uni MBPro 2.2 GHz A1226
CCC clone of old user hdd to .sparsebundle image (about 120GB) was running OS X 10.6.5
Repartition, erase brand new 500GB 2.5" SATA HDD
CCC > Window > Disk Center > installed Recovery HD 10.8 on the 500GB drive
CCC cloned my 10.8.2 + Apps image (used on dozens of client Macs without issue) to the 500GB drive
booted into MBPro HD and ran Migration Assistant to import old user account from the CCC backup I made earlier
ran all Apple updates and ran Repair Permissions, rebooted
on reboot... gray screen with text that said:  "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up."
not sure what was wrong, I booted into Recover 10.8 > ran DU repair disk and repair permissions
still getting kernel panic on reboot... but after a few tries it would boot into the user account. Once in user account everything runs fine. Only getting KP when I start up the MacBook Pro. weird.
Thinking it was bad OSX install from my CCC image... I went ahead and reinstalled from Recovery HD  fresh 10.8.2, then ran updates, etc.
still getting kernel panic.  Was fine on 10.6.5. Only noticed it when upgraded to 10.8.x
did SMC and PRAM resets, still issues
booted into Safe Mode... no errors that I can see, but then again it won't KP when I'm running anything.
Have not yet re-seated or replaced ram (3rd party 2 x 2GB 667mhz) but plan to do that tonight.
Anything else you guys can think of? It appears to be a GPU issue... "IOGraphicsFamily" and "NVDAResman"
    Thanks.  - Brian

The video memory of mine is 64 MB. no idea how and why.
Maybe it's because I got my macbook pro repaired two years ago due to a video chip failure.
The DDR2 memory installed is a single 4GB
One of the memory slot is not working
    Any suggestions?????

  • My macbook pro 2.2ghz, i7 , early 2011 having problem with the graphic card

hi, just need clarification, that i was made to understand that the NVDIA graphic card installed in Macbook Pro, has a warranty of 3 years, eventough without Apple Protection Plan. Can someone clarify this , as i m having problem with it now.

No, the GPU does not have a seperate 'three year warranty'... unless you purchased the extended AppleCare Protection Plan.
If you feel that you're having problems with your GPU, take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run a free diagnostic test. If the card is faulty, and you don't have a APP, you'll have to pay to have the entire logic board replaced.

  • During editing on MacBook Pro 2.2GHz i7, audio goes out of sinc with video

I have been having a lot of trouble with audio going out of sinc after I have edited a 30 minute program.  When I make a second cut, I find that the audio has jumped under the first cut about half an inch back, and this happens with every progressive cut.  Then after "sharing" to dvd the audio is out of sinc with video throughout.  I then have moved each one of these overlaps back into position and still have a problem with audio out of sinc.
    HELP.

I was using a different laptop for post since the macbook was busy "sharing" to dvd, which, since I closely examined each cut at highest magnification to fix them ended up making video watchable.  Not every cut came out of sinc, but several do.
It is both sides of the cut which come out of sinc, the right side laps over the left and then I noticed when I corrected them with greater magnification that the left side was moved left to cause a gap.  I guess I just have to closely examine each cut when done with the whole video since also these overlaps are caused when I zoom out to view the whole length of the timeline, most of the cuts will overlap at that moment.  Really strange.  I had trouble fixing these but less trouble whe I turned off the snap in option.

  • How do I disable Hyperthreading in 10.6.7 on my 2011 MacBook pro 2.2ghz quad?

I'm rendering a scene using Maya 2011, and it's only using two of the four cores in the batch render. I've read that Maya doesn't play well with Intel's Hyperthreading, so I want to turn it off while rendering. There isn't any processor preference pane, so I don't know how to do that. I've read it can be reinstalled from Xcode, so I downloaded it, but I've searched it up and down and can't find anything about processor or CPU preferences.

You better know what your doing
Lets see far as I can tell installing Xcode installs CHUD tools which you can set via the command line hwprefs
If you got Xcode 4 installed, do a 'man hwprefs' and see if it pulls up the manual.
    If so the command is
    hwprefs -v cpu_ht=false
    hwprefs -v cpu_ht=true
(last one turns it back on)

  • Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz LED Backlit Auto Dims in Leopard regardless of settings.

I have changed all of the energy settings not to turn off the display. No matter what, after a few minutes of no use (watching a podcast!!!) it dims the display. It looks like it has turned if off, but if you look closely, it has only turned off the backlight and you can still see the image on it. How do I make it stop!!!!

I figured it out! You have to unplug, take out your battery, hold down the power button for about 7 seconds, place the battery back in, connect power, hold down option p & r while it boots, it will chime, reboot and chime again. Should fix it, it resets the memory on the power management chip!

  • How is performance on Macbook Pro 15" 2ghz 128mb video ram?

Is anyone running aperture with the 128mb video ram?
Trying to decide if the approx $500 difference between models is really worth it for the ram. I know there's a little more hd space and a tick faster cpu speed but I'm mainly concerned with the ram question.
    Thanks to all,
    Larry

You get 25% more hard drive, 8% faster CPU, double the VRAM for $500 if you are comparing stock systems only. However if you are building to order the price difference will be much less than $500 the way the BTO options price out. And, you should want 2 GB of RAM. To achieve that with the cheaper MBP you either need to throw away the 512 and buy two DIMMs instead of just one or pay Apple $500 instead of the $300 if you had bought the better MBP.
For a MBP with 120 GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM BTO cost is:
2.0 GHz MBP with 128 MB VRAM, $2699
2.16 GHz MBP with 256 MB VRAM, $2899
$200 difference, not $500. Of course buying third party RAM will change it some. Either way I think max HD size and max RAM is important and at less than $300 actual difference I consider the faster box a smarter purchase. Best value of all is the 17" MBP with its 8x DVD and FW800.
Note that Apple and graphics apps clearly are sharing more processing with the GPU as time goes on. IMO it behooves us to get fastest available (at reasonable price) GPUs for the future, not because of any perceived performance difference today.
This thread mirrors comments I made a year+ ago. Look what happened to folks who bought G5s and saved a few bucks because at the time better GPUs BTO mostly affected only video/3D. Then Surprise! Aperture came along and knocked multiprocessor G5s without upgraded cards to their knees. Further surprise, Apple - IMO incredibly and unethically - refused to facilitate card upgrade purchases to folks who had purchased Apple's best Macs, now lamed by an Apple app.
Personally when I buy it is always with fastest available (at reasonable price) GPUs; just trying to get max graphics performance which historically has always been challenging to hardware setups.
IMO it is essential to buy for the future, not for today. Today will be over before a new box is even delivered...
There are many earlier threads that discussed this that you can find by backtracking through the thread list. One is <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=478038&tstart=100>.

  • MacBook Pro 2GHz heat problems

    Hello!
I just bought a MacBook Pro 15" 2GHz non multi-touch (before 1 week). I was so frustrated for not being able to buy it easy from my country but the pain was worthy I thought. Now after some work with it I notice it is very hot. I downloaded iStatPro I looked at the temperatures.
The processor usually stays at 55 to 60 celsius. When I do normal work it sometimes came up to 80!?!
When I am at my desk browsing I notice that the wood (or other stuff I don't know the english word) of my desk is being deformed because of the temperature.
I tried contacting the services via email but no one answered me in a couple of days.
So I have these questions I like being answered.
What is the normal idle temperature?
What is the normal operating temperature?
Is there a way to fix the problem in service or other way?
And is there a way to notify Apple that the local re-sales are making not a good name for Apple by being incompetent and slow?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are a couple of things that you can check if you are concerned. If the surface of your desk is being deformed by the heat, it sounds to me that your mac is running too hot. I have mine on my lap now, and it is just mildly warm.
Run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test. This is on Install Disc #1 of the gray discs that came with your computer. You hold down "D" to boot to the test--instructions are on the disc and the screen that comes up. This will test several things including the fans and the thermal sensors. If there is anything wrong, you will get an error code, which is indicative of a hardware problem.
The other thing that can happen is that some process will run amok in the background and hog the CPU and generate heat. The way to look for this is to open Activity Monitor, in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Set the top box to show "All Processes" and the lower bar on "CPU". Then look at the CPU column and see if you can find some process running that shouldn't be that is using 50% or more of the CPU. If you do, highlight it and quit it. One example of a process that often causes problems is a printer process, but it could be just about anything. If you find such a rogue process, quitting it should bring down the temperature.
Also look at the two boxes showing CPU Usage. Under light use, these boxes should be mostly black. If you see a lot of green or red, something is going on.
Here are the temperatures for my MBP with 5 applications open:
    CPU A 52℃
    GPU Diode 58℃
    GPU Heatsink 51℃

One more thing to check--is the battery very hot? Mine is warm, but not hot--I can easily hold my hand on it. If yours is very warm, it might have a problem. As it happens, there were a number of defective batteries shipped.
I am not familiar with how to contact Apple in your part of the world. If you are unhappy with the service you are receiving, you could always write Apple at their corporate office:

  • Macbook vs Macbook Pro for Mainstage

    I'm currently deciding between these:-
    -Macbook 2ghz, 2GB RAM, 200GB (5400rpm) HD
    -Macbook Pro 2.2ghz (15"), 2GB RAM, 200GB (7200rpm) HD
There's a substantial price difference (£500, ~$1000) between the two.
The main use for the laptop will be live use with Mainstage - creating layers, playing synths, samples, etc. I'll also want to use Logic at home for studio use/recording/writing with big samples like Vienna/Ivory etc. on an external FW HD.
It looks like the main issue with the Macbook (non Pro) is its built-in graphics card, but apparently the latest Mainstage update allows you to run it on a standard Macbook? There's also the issue of the faster 7200rpm HD I'd select in the Pro.
I want a good, powerful, smooth system, but of course don't want to waste £500 if I can help it.
    Any advice?
