MacBook Pro, 2,8 GHz only running 1,59 GHz in XP

Hi fellas
I really hope you can help me out, cause im having this issue with my MacBook Pro.
No matter what i do, it does not move a single hertz, fra 1,59 GHz.
I can run demanding games (Colin McRae: DiRT), FutureMark's 3DMark06 and still
it does not move!
It's now my second XP install and it is CLEAN.
I'm using BootCamp 3.0 Drivers, so that shouldnt be problem..
Also, i tried Windows 7 which runs great, but having problems with my purchased copy of Need For Speed Shift (but that's another story).
In OS X (10.6.1), it only says that it's running a Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM etc, etc.
Does anyone have any idea why it does this?

I´ve just read this, I´ll keep it on my mind!!
Rule of thumb: Don't buy top of the range MBP. This is a pain in the ***.
TBH even with a replaced board in these affected machines, they only work well for a while and then start to experience erratic slowness/freezing. It gets worse with time. Then they eventually die.

    Things to note:
I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.
any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

System preferences and the dock isn't set up to start safari. Can't figure out why this is happening. Had reloaded system from scratch and noticed this happening lately.

Remove iAntiVirus, then reboot, see if it's better.

  • Why is it that the new macbook pro processor upgrade option only offers up to 2.8 Ghz with Intel Dual Core i7, when back in Sep 12 I bought a 2.9 Ghz Intel Dual Core i7 Macbook, is the new one tuned to go much faster anyway?

Why is it that the new Macbook Pro processor upgrade option only offers up to 2.8 Ghz boosting to 3.3 Ghz with Intel Dual Core i7, when back in Sep 12 I bought a 2.9 Ghz boosting to 3.6 Ghz Intel Dual Core i7 Macbook, is the new one tuned somehow to go much faster anyway, or will the new one be slower in fact?  Or does the solid state drive compensate for the lack of increased processor capacity?

The CPU's come from different Intel 'families'.  The older ones are 'Ivy Bridge' and the newer ones are 'Haswell'.  Numbers alone will not determine the efficiency of  CPU.
    Ciao.

Snow Leopard is still the most efficient OSX from Apple.  I have a late 2011 MBP running Lion with no performance issues.
I suggest the following;  Install 8 GB RAM if you do not have that already.  (The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial).  The newer OSX's are trifle more RAM hungry.
Partition your HDD and install one of the newer OSX's in the new partition and try it out.  This allows you to 'retreat' to Snow Leoprad if you find the newer OSX is not to your liking.
Also note that the newer OSX's do not support PPC applications.  That means that there is a possibility that some of your current applications will not work and may have to be updated or replaced.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro Kernel_Task over 300% ; laptop running very slow

My new (4 week old) MacBook Pro suddenly this weekend started running very slow with the fan running constantly. I found the "kernel_task" was running the CPU over 300%. I tried various methods mentioned in different threads but nothing worked. I eventually went all the way to wiping the disk and reinstalling the OS. This has NOT fixed the problem. I do not know where to go next. I am posting a copy of the EtreCheck report I ran, and I am looking for any help.
The next step is taking this thing back to the Apple store. I love my MacBook, but not when it is not lagging like something running Windows ME. I expected more out of this machine than this.

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or a low-voltage reading from the battery, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to
a buildup of dust on the logic board
    high ambient temperature
a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on battery power, the fault is in the battery or the logic board. If it happens only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That may be normal on some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
    Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. That category includes virtualization software, such as Parallels and VMware, as well as most commercial "anti-virus" products. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or starting in safe mode. Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or testing in safe mode may not be as easy as you think.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
    External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display.

  • The battery in my MacBook Pro 17 requesting assistance only after 277 cycles with a capacity of 9444 mAh

the battery in my MacBook Pro 17 requesting assistance only after 277 cycles with a capacity of 9444 mAh, Is it possible?I performed the calibration, but nothing changes.
MacBook Pro (17 pollici, Half 2010)
    MacBookPro6,1
    Intel Core i5
    2,53 GHz
    Memory 4 GB

Batteries will vary in how long they last. Apple will say that for machines built in the last 4 years that the battery may last up to 5 years approximately. However this depends on usage.
You can have someone who never ever uses the battery and only ever runs the computer from the mains and the battery will fail as it never gets used and the cycle count will be very low.
To put things in perspective. I have a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina Display (Late 2013). I've had it for probably 8 months and I have 128 cycles on my battery, approx. half yours in a quarter of the time. So if you're not always use the battery it can be affected in other ways.
You can try to see if calibrating the battery helps. Look at http://apple.com/batteries for information on how to do this or try an SMC Reset and see if these make a difference. If not, then seek support from an Apple Store or Authorised service provider.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz incredibly slow

I'm having a chronic problem with this MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5. (I'm running Mac OS X 10.9.5, with 4GB of RAM.)
It can take 15 seconds to open a Safari tab; it can take a few minutes to launch Mail. Sometimes I even type faster than the machine can keep up with. Rebooting will help -- but not for that long.
In the Activity Monitor, nothing seems to be sucking CPU (and the fan rarely runs). In the Memory tab of the Monitor, I see this:
    Physical Memory: 4.00 GB
    Memory Used: 3.99 GB
    Virtual Memory: 6.69 GB
    Swap Used: 2.8 MB
    App Memory: 1.94 GB
    File Cache: 227.3 MB
    Wired Memory: 706.2 MB
    Compressed 1.11 GB
    My EtreCheck report is below.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your advice.

  • I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Hello all,
I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running 10.4.8. When I go to burn a DVD I get one of two codes 0X8002006D, 0X80020022, why is that a 3,000 CPU cant burn a DVD. My Mac is total up to date with all software and firmware. I saw in the Discussions that I'm not the first person to have this issue but I don't see an answer from Apple, I'm pretty sure it not the DVDs (Memorex DVD-R 16X) because my ****** pc can burn them and it was a 100 pack that I used about 50 from it that I burn on both Macs and the ****** PC. I also have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM running 10.4.8 which is also unable to burn them and it also comes up with the same errors. I have not had this issue until I updated my Macs to 10.4.8, PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks,
    Coons

Yes I can play CDs and DVDs but I was not able to burn a 4.01GB folder, I have since decreased the folder size to 3.75 and was able to burn the DVD. I'm creating another just to double check, my G5 was unable to complete the task and I also gave a shot at a 2.77GB folder and it failed I also gave a 200Mb file a chance but it still did not burn. I was able to burn the same 200MB file on a CD, PLEASE I NEED HELP.

Have deleted (secure delete) and reinstalled several times. Got it to open once right after download... Usually crashes/hangs upon attempted start-up, then shows as "Application unresponsive".   Must be forced to quit.
No other audio interfaces or drivers installed that I am aware of. Playback through onboard audio interfaces, sometimes routed to Apple TV via Cat 5 cable, out to receiver via fiber optic SPDIF, or to Panasonic HDTV via HDMI cable through Thunderbolt port.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

You need a "Core 2 Duo" for lion, and I'm guessing you only have a "Core Duo"  My wife's macbook is also a "Core Duo" and has Snow Leapord, but cannot install Lion.....

  • My macbook pro gets very hot when running anything like games or videos

I just bought a macbook pro 2.3 GHZ i7 with retina display.  It gets very hot when running just about anything of substance.  When I run a game like candy crush, the temperature can get to 167 or more.  I installed istat menus and started monitoring it.  I did notice that the fans never went on but after istats I was able to make them come on.  Without having a game going, the temperatures hover around 100.  Once the game starts, it goes crazy.
I don't really know what the problem could be or if this is normal (it really can't be....This is way too hot).  I have owned the computer for about 2 months and I need to know what to do.

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.
