Macbook Pro 2006 problems

My computer is old (15 in. 2006 pro), but I've invested a lot of repairs, and it's worth it to keep it going for a while longer.  I wouldn't be terribly upset if we had to dump it.  I'm just interested in what is going wrong.
Services we've had to do over the years:  Daughter left glow bracelet in the hinge, cracked the screen, replaced for major cash.  Back light when out, replaced.  Motherboard fried (AKA logic board, right?) and replaced.  Updated to OS 10.6.
Did one new batttery but it was a cheapy knock off.  Later replaced the adaptor.
For a while, we had trouble getting the battery to charge, and it was defiitely a bad battery.  But it still wouldn't work when plugged in, not receiving charge.  Oe more new, real Mac battery.  It's better, but sometimes overheats and it has a hard time charging now and again.  I have to fiddle witht the mag connector, pop out the battery, etc.  Often this is after my kids have played miniclip and I'll hear the fans roaring.
If this is a motherboard problem, I'm a bit upset.  We replaced it a year and a half ago.  If we need a new computer, that's fine, but I feel like it isn't that old, given what we've replaced.
Not getting a laptop again, that's for sure!  Any thoughts?

The safest way is to delete that botched account from another Admin account and recreate it, this will get rid of the hidden crap hiding in the Users/Library folder Apple has made disappeared.
Next once the new account(s) is created, with the same name(s) as the old account files your going to be transfering (especially iTunes playlists)
Hook up a external hard drive to the old machine, drag and drop copy all users folders except Library.
Hook up to the new machine and transfer into the same respective folders, when you run the newer Apple programs they should update their own support files.
