MacBook Pro 2007 cannot startup

Hi, thanks for clicking on this discussion, just wanted to ask if anyone can help me out of my problem
Today while I was using my mac, it suddenly shut down, I tried turning it on again, but to no avail...It only had the sleep light blinking.
No hard drive startup sound or anything...
I tried,
1. Removing RAM and inserting again
2. Removed all USB connected device ( mouse, cooling pad )
3. Start up without AC battery charger
4. Start up with AC battery charger
Please post any info that can help me that you know, thanks in advance.

Begin by holding the power button down to do a hard shutdown. Then start in safe mode by holding the shift key down immediately after pressing the start button until you see a progress bar. Let it start this way and then try a normal restart.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
If you are no longer able to boot your computer, then the drive is too full and has become corrupted. You may be able to repair it using Disk Utility on your Installer DVD:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't work, then you will have to erase the drive and install OS X from scratch. From the Tiger installer disc you will choose the Erase and Install install option.

  • Problem with battery for MacBook Pro 2007

I have a problem with battery that was replaced during video card service 1.5 years ago
Battery health was around 80% and it stopped to work, I continued to use notebook with power cable and after week the battery become like this!
spoke with person in Apple store and got answer that it is not covered by Apple and I will need to buy another new battery.
For me it looks like manufacturing problem and I'm not expecting that after 1 year my battery will die like this! Thanks that it didn't explode!
What I should do in such case?

    Thanks for your reply!
All my battery story is ending with bad taste...
I always relied on quality of the Apple products, it brought me to change all computers and phones to Apple brand. I was ready to pay extra for their products...
This battery has an Apple brand on it and I'm expecting that Apple will take some responsibility for it.
First battery on my MacBook Pro 2007 worked without any problem for 4 years, then it was replaced by Apple service tech person for unknown reason. This "new" battery failed just after ending of 1 year warranty coverage and even deformed in such scarry way. And now I don't have any option to ask if there is possibility that I'm experience a manufacturing defect! And I know that it is possible, internet is full of negative comments for these batteries!
Now I'm asking myself again, if it worst to buy Apple products? Are these products have proper quality?

Since upgrading to mountain lion on my macbook pro, i cannot email photos from iphoto.
i can select the picture but when sending it, an error symbol appears.
    Any ideas ?

This doesn't work for me at all. I tried entering exactly the same information that I used to set up my regular email account and I'm still getting an error message. I even tried switching to using my gmail account and neither one worked. Then it got hung up and had to repair my database! I have a lot of photos on my Mac (thank goodness they're backed up) and I was really sweating it for a moment.
Apple is so easy until it's not. I find this to be really aggrevating and I'm irritated that it hasn't been fixed. In fact I did an online search and someone described this same problem in detail and it was exactly what was happening to me. Same error messages.
I'm frustrated that Apple keeps updating it's operating system and then we go through these glitches.
And while I'm at it, I have never had such a frustrating time using my login information as I have to get into this forum! Why do they make it so difficult? There's just something about the way it's worded that get's me messed up every time. Meanwhile, at least get iPhoto fixed!

  • Macbook Pro 2007 - Do I need original disks to install OS or can I install 10.6 dmg from USB?

    Hi,
I recently bought a Macbook Pro 2007 and admittedly coming from Windows I am a relative novice with Macs. So, I made a purchase without realizing the important role the original OS disks play
I checked the OS and it says it is running OS X 10.5.8. I had a go at installing a different OS on a partition, but got an error message saying: "Filesystem verify or repair failed".
So, not being all that familiar with Macs, how do I go about installing a new OS? I am pretty clueless with that stuff on the Mac. Do I need to have the original OS disks in order to install a more recent OS? Or can I use the 10.6 dmg file that I have to install from a USB?
If I were to purchase a more recent OS (than the one that came originally with the Mac), would I be able to install that? In all cases I do not need to back up any of the existing data.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
    Thank

If you want to erase the computer's hard drive to rid it of the previous owner's leavings (always a good idea with a used computer), and then install Snow Leopard, that should all go without a hitch. The present Leopard installation will be wiped along with everything else. But the iLife applications that were preinstalled on the machine at the factory and included on the discs that were originally shipped with it are not part of the OS and won't be included in the Snow Leopard installation. You'll need to purchase and reinstall those separately, and you can do so either by buying an iLife '11 installer DVD from an Apple Store, or by buying the individual iLife apps that you want from the Mac App Store. You'll have access to the App Store after applying the free OS updates to the final version of Snow Leopard, v. 10.6.8.
Once you can use the App Store, you'll also have the option of downloading the upgrade to OSX Lion, if your computer meets its system requirements.

Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!

Maybe this can help someone else...  I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that.  I think that sorted it!  I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back.  Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6.  Here's a link on how to properly uninstall CS3 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS.  I'm on OS X 10.9.2 but it worked just fine.  Remove Creative Suite 3 and CS3 products

I have downloaded and installed the 10.6.8 V1.1 Combo pack but this didn't fix the problem.

  • Can I take a hard drive from a different laptop and replace it in my MacBook pro 2007

My MacBook pro (2007) has  failing hard drive. Can I remove the hard drive from a different laptop ie. Toshiba, or HP and replace it with the failing hard drive?

yes you can....but any files/data on the other drive will be gone.  also make sure that the drive you install is a SATA drive which is in your Macbook...
make sure you have your original install disk if you plan on doing a clean install.

  • Macbook pro 2007

I have an older macbook pro 2007 and imac intel 2006 model.  What if any issues should I be aware of if I upgrade to Lion and what will not work with my computers.  So far, I have read that my Microsoft office 2004 will not work and possibly my wireless HP printer that is at least 4 years old.

Any PowerPC apps will not work. Open System Profiler, select Applications from the Software section. Look for PowerPC in the Kind column.
Additionally, check for other software compatibilities here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

What  should I do now? Its around 40 miles away the apple store? Would they pay my taxi fare to go and return?

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care.

  • What is a good solid state hard drive for a Macbook Pro (2007 model)?

What is a good solid state hard drive for a Macbook Pro (2007 model)? I imagine they're still expensive, but I'm curious which would be good picks if I were to go for it.

I am using the Corsair P256 (256 GB) SSD. It is actually a Samsung drive. It works well, but will only give you part of the speed advantage due to the fact that the MBP from 2007 only has a 1.5 GB/s interface, while newer MBPs have a 3.0 GB/s interface.
Impact on battery run time seems to only be an increase of 15-20%.
Boot time on my MBP is 40 seconds to login prompt. System seems very responsive.

Is it possible to view .bbb files in a mac? how? I am transferring my bberry contacts onto my macbook pro, but cannot open the .bbb files...

Well, if simply double-clicking the .bbb file doesn't work, first try dragging the file onto the BBDM icon (either in the Dock, on the desktop or in the Applications folder or wherever it's stored). That tells Finder to open it with that application.
Otherwise, right-click on the file and choose the Open With option. If BBDM is not the default, select Get Info and use the Open with box from there to select it (if it's not in the list, choose 'other' and navigate to it), then click the 'change all' button.

Mountain Lion is the current version of the latest OS, with Mavericks coming this fall.
However, I would suggest that you simply upgrade to Snow Leopard -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. It's a very good, very fast OS and, best of all, it can still run those PPC apps that you may be using.
