MacBook Pro 2008, won't go past the start up page, just keeps telling me to restart

I have a MacBook Pro 2008, it freezes then has pink pixels, restarts but then says I need to restart it again but it never gets past the start up page, just keeps telling me to restart again. I've tried taking out the battery and plugging it in, I'm not sure what else to do

Don't know about the pink stuff....
You may be experiencing a Kernel Panic, as shown in Apple doc. #HT1392. If not disregard
Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics. It could also just need to be reset.  Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.

  • My Macbook Pro will not stop loading at the start up page!

you know the start up page that appears when you press the power button, the blue ish white one with the apple logo on the middle and a circular loading thing? Well mine won't stop loading. I left it on all night and it  still hasnt finished loading. Its the circular one that just  goes around and around. Helpme! Wjat should I do??

Seeing the white,  blue or gray screen with spinning thing for too long is a sign of trouble
It's called the "gray screen" and you can hopefully hold down the Shift key on a wired keyboard when rebooting to let the machine enter safe mode, then backup your data off the machine in case it's a failing hard drive and then go around uninstalling, updating reinstallling all your third party software.
If that doesn't fix it then a #18 Reinstall Just OS X usually does the trick too
go through the steps here one by one or have someone take a look at your machine

  • My Final Cut Pro X won't load past the start-up screen....Why??

I have been using FCPX for about 3 months now and I have had no problems. Out of NOWHERE today when I tried to open up FCPX it loads everything except for one project and it gets stuck. The start-up screen simply says "reading project 1". I have no idea what to do. I use FCPX everyday for editing videos and now I have nothing. I need someone's help.

Not too many fans of FCPX here. Wrong forum. You'll have better luck here. https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_pro_ x

  • My MacBook Pro won't go past the white apple page

My computer won't go past the white apple page with the spinning wheel when you turn it on.

    This should fix the problem:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My Macbook won't get past the start up screen

    Hey everyone
I have a Macbook that's about 3 years old. I did an software update yesterday and since doing it the computer won't get past the start up screen. There's just the Apple logo and the rolling ball thing. It's been stuck there for around 30mins and nothing changes. I'm not really sure what has happened but I was wondering if there is any way I can fix it.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hey Lyssa
I don't have a back up but I'm not to worried about that as it's my traveling computer and I only use it for the web and some word processing.
I don't have the disks with me right now as I'm away from home. I'm not sure what I had updated, I think there was a lot because I hadn't don't it in a long time.
If I can start it in safe mode what should I do?
    Thanks.

  • Photos update won't open past the "preparing library" page

iPhoto just updated to Photo 2015.  I can't get to my pictures because the app won't open past the "preparing library" page.
The iPhoto update, under Apps, won't let me resume the update - I get an error "this item is temporarily unavailable".
    Any ideas?

    Hi wolfey_j
    Welcome to apple discussions.
Drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash followed by a full restart of your mac and then repair permissions from apple's disc utility (application > utilities > disc utility)
The plist for iDvd looks like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
If that fails to resolve this issue then delete iDvd using this free download from apple's web site:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/appdelete.html
You'll need to re-install iDvd again (custom install from the software that shipped with your mac or any retail copy of iLife'09). And lastly run apple's software updater from system preferences so all is up to date again. (not a bad idea to repair permissions one more time after updating all apps.)
Hope this resolves the issue/s but if not just come on back.
    Good luck.

  • My Macbook Pro (2008) won't turn on. No backlight, only still white light on opening button.

So my MacBook Pro (2008) wont turn on, it's battery usually lasts around 30 minutes - 1 hour when fully charged.
I turned it off last night, running fine. This morning I came to turn it on and there was no response other than the white light on the opening button, not flashing just still.
I've plugged it in to charge and have tried about 4 times, each time the backlight makes no change (just black) and the opening button light stays on.
No idea what to do, I haven't recently backed it up and have lots of important files i need.
Any help would be excellent. Thanks!

I am also having this problem.  I have tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM.  When I press the power button the optical drive makes a noise, the fans come on (not loud), and the hard drive spins.  The white light on the front (early 2008 Macbook Pro) also stays on.  If I press the caps lock button the light does not come on.  The battery takes a charge (all the lights will light up when the button is pressed) and the power adapter shows a solid green light.  No changes in hardware have been made in over a year.
Shy of taking the thing apart, any ideas?  I live 5+ hours from the nearest Apple Store.
Thank you anyone for the help!

  • Won't go past the start page, even after reseting

I try to go onto firefox, firefox starts, however it won't even go past the start page. I've tried a number of different things and nothing seems to work. I've tried a few different websites and nothing, it says it's loading but then remains on the same page.

If that does not help, try to
'''''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]'''''
<BR>While you are in safe mode;<BR>
    '''''Firefox Options > Advanced > General'''''.<BR>
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.

  • Macbook Pro (2008) won't wake from sleep?

Two days ago, a day after replacing an old battery, my 2008 model Macbook Pro refused to wake from sleep. For the past 48 hours it has been doing one of two things.
              A) It will act normally, except that the screen is blank (make the start-up sound, and sound as though it's running when I try to wake it)
               or
              B) Act as if it's sleeping.
    I have tried:
    -Resetting the SMC
    -Resetting the PRAM
-Restarting the laptop from battery power
-Restarting with it plugged in a battery removed
Someone gave me the idea to hook up an external monitor, and see if it's my screen, but it's in the "Don't wake from sleep" stage at the moment. It's is out of warranty, so I want to see if anyone has any solutions or suggestions before I pay someone to take a look at it.
    Thanks!

I'm convinced the price of repairs is a ploy to drive up new sales figures! As are these convenient 'catastrophic' hardware issues! It's odd that every post asking about this fault crop up after 4 or 5 years of impeccable reliability, it's like they are self destruct to force you into the clutches of an overly friendly assistant who leaves you wanting to invite them round for Sunday dinner because your nan will adore them! Ahhh well shiny new apple things do fill the void in lives only satisfied by something over priced to stroke and adore!

  • Macbook Pro (2008) won't turn on.

My 2008 Macbook Pro won't turn on . The power on light turns on but, that is all.  It worked fine earlier today but when I opened it up tonight, the screen is blank like it is shut off.

  • Mac Pro 2008 won't boot past spinning wheel

I have a Mac Pro from late 2008 which turns on, makes the startup sound, and remains on the spinning wheel for about 30 seconds before the wheel freezes. I have Windows 8 installed on another internal drive and I can't boot past their version of the spinning wheel, either. I've tried booting off of the install disc (Snow Leopard, which is what the machine is running) and off of a USB stick with a Snow Leopard .dmg on it, neither of which have worked.
I've done all the steps to fix a drive error, so I don't think it's that. I've read that it could be a graphics card error; has anyone else experienced trouble with theirs? Mine was a GeForce 7300, if I remember correctly. Thanks in advance.

It certainly sounds like a graphics card problem.

  • Help: Macbook Pro Retina won't boot past Grey screen w/ Logo

    All,
My computer died last night with each application not responding. I couldn't shut down normally so I held the power button to turn it off.
Next morning, I tried to boot the MacBook Pro and the boot process stalled at the grey screen with the Apple Logo and spinning wheel. I let it go for an hour and there was no change on the screen. Based on Apple's help desk I ran Hardware diagnostics (extended with looping disabled) and got the following error
    4HDD/11/40000000: SATA (0,0)
    The screen shot is below
I ran this again with standard testing (no looping) and standard with looping and all gave the same results.
Any ideas? The compute will not boot.
    Thank you
    Phillip

That's what I thought but was able to do CMD-R and verify/repair permissions the disk. My hard drive is actually a flash drive so I'm guessing the controller or motherboard.
I do have it backed up with the last 24 hours ago.
    Thanks
    Phillip

  • I installed Lion but now my Macbook won't go past the start-up screen. Help!

I installed Mac OS X Lion today and it downloaded and installed fine but when it restarted it went to the white start up screen with the grey apple logo and the wheel kept going around for two hours. I held the power button and my macbook went off so I pushed it again and it went on, again staying at the start up screen for half an hour. I restarted it again and held the option button to boot to recovery. I then repaired the permissions and the disk drive and then reinstalled Mac OS X Lion. This time the installation took around 4 hours to complete and then restarted. It again went to the white start up screen and the grey wheel has now been going around for the last hour! What can I do? I haven't backed up my files and would still like to keep them. Thanks.

  • MacBook Pro OsX won't get past loading apple screen?

I have tried all the steps besides reinstalling. This is what I think may be the problem at startup:
It says "Bug: launchctl.c3817....." and about 30 lines of similar code then it gets to "bootcachecontrol: could not unlink playlist..." and "launchctl: please convert the following to launched: /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist" then it goes "launch_msg(): socket is not connected" followed by "bootcachecontrol: could not create temporary playlist file: invalid argument" and finally it says "bootcachecontrol: could not write playlist." that is where it stops loading during the start up. Any ideas of what to do?
    Thanks!
