MACBOOK PRO 2010 13' installation on new harddrive failed(you need to resta

Hello,
v
I have a new macbook pro 13(from 2010).
When i bought the laptop evrything was working great, in the summer i tried to do a clean install(i had a lot of stuff on it that i wanted to delete) but i couldn't: I puted the installation dvd in and i pressed c, after a while i get the error: You need to restart your computer.....
so i didnt do a clean install because the laptop was still working...
A fews days ago my harddrive broke... so i changed the harddrive, i puted a new hdd in it. (I am not in my homecountry thats why i couldnt bring it to the apple store) Now when I tried to install os x snow leopard on it, i get exacty the same error, i see the apple logo and the spinning wheel after a while the screen becomes grey and it sais you need to restart your computer...
I read on some forums that it is kernel panic, but am not sure, i tried a lot but couldnt find the solution..
any ideas?

If the message to restart your computer is in multiple languages that is a kernel panic. This generally indicates a hardware problem usually memory. I suggest you take into Apple for repair. It is extremely doubtful that any reinstall of software is going fix your problem.

Nope! Just make sure your signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID that you used to buy iWork on your last MacBook and the buy button should just say download instead.

  • When you buy a macbook pro does it come with all the software you need

when i purchase a macbook pro with retina display. will it come with all the software i need

    Hi logan_logan,
Probably all depends on your past experience, but I'm getting a new Macbook Air next week, and I will be purchasing Microsoft Office. I have been using Word and Excel for years, and know all of the tricks, bells, and whistles, so just really don't want to go through a major learning curve to figure out how to use a new word processing and spreadsheet processing system.
I've had a little experience with Pages on my iPad (which I know is not even a close comparison to what is on the Mac), but I'm just more comfortable with Word.
So, I'd say depends on whether you want something that you are comfortable with, or something that is a new adventure! What's your pleasure?

  • Move full SSD / Drive from busted Macbook Pro 2010 to older model

    Hi,
I have a 13" Macbook Pro 2010 model whose logic board has failed. I want to take the SSD (installed with Snow Leopard and full of files and folder structures I want to keep) out of this busted computer and move it over to a Late 2007 Macbook Pro model I have lying around to get access to the drive again. I know in theory, I can install a SSD into this model, but can I install an SSD that is already formatted by my newer model? Are there things I need to consider?
And if the answer is yes, BUT it can be slightly unstable, can I go about mirroring the drive onto an external hardrive once it is in the 2007 model, wiping the SSD, reinstalling the SSD with a fresh boot and then transferring file structure from mirrored drive back onto the freshly installed SSD in my 2007 model? Does that sound like a good process?
    Thanks.

The OS is  machine-specific, so I doubt that an OS installed on a SSD on a 2010 would even boot a 2007 model.
You can TRY to install the drive into the 2007 model and use the installation disc(s) that came with that model to install the OS. It might work, might not. More likely than not, you're just going to have to erase the SSD, from Disk Utility on your installation disc, and start anew.

MacBook Pro 2010: Flashing folder w/? on not responding to startup keys & I'm trying to install a new hard drive, can anyone help?

Thanks. It started up com that disk but when I went to install it had an error message (didn't get to write out what it said). So I attempted to restore from time machine but it said there was no space, even though it's a new (replacement under warranty) HGST 1TB HD,  so I did what  I think was right and tried to partition the disk but it now says 'Partition faild...POSIX report...cannot allocate memory'.  im not sure what to do, and I'm trying to remember how the previous hd was installed and formatted for use but that was over a year ago now. Should have erased the hd first or something?

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and am a very new user to Mac community only started to use this PC a few weeks ago.
My Mac is just hanging and I am unable to shut it down or do anything at all.  I left it for 2.5 days hoping the battery will run flat but it is not working. Pls help! I am desperate. Tx

In order to resolve the issue if it occurs again, more info would be helpful as to what occurred prior to the "hang." One potential fix would be to try a Safe Boot:
After the Mac is completely shut down, push the power button and immediately after the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
There should be a message that says "SafeBoot." After the Mac is completely booted, try restarting and see if the issue is gone.

  • Ok, so basically my charger fell apart on my MacBook pro(2010) and I didn't have the money for a new charger, I got it in the states too if that's relevant. Basically my laptop will not charge, I bought a new charger yesterday and it's still no-use

Ok, so basically my charger fell apart on my MacBook pro(2010) and I didn't have the money for a new charger, I got it in the states too if that's relevant. Basically my laptop will not charge, I bought a new charger yesterday and it's still no-use,not charging . No green or orange light coming on on the new charger either.

It is one of the items that Apple gets criticized at regular intervals. The MagSafe connector is proprietary and unlicensable, so the company has a lock-in on the power options. And as you have now found out, your hijinks trying to avoid buying an expensive new charger may have caused more damage and led to a total no-charge condition.
If lucky and no physical damage has occurred (there IS a fuse in there somewhere on the circuit boards), maybe resetting the SMC can restore charge functionality, provided there is still enough juice: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Upgrade Ram, HD to SDD and New Battery for Macbook pro 2010 i7 15". (with price).

Hi, i want to upgrade my Ram, Hard Disk and Battery of Macbook pro 2010 Model with i7 processor and 15" display.
    My current configuration:
Ram: 2GB + 2GB (original with mbp purchase)
Hard Disk: 500 GB (250 GB full)
Battery: Cycles - 669 and Health - 87 % (As show by istat)
    New configuration I want:
Ram: 8 Gb best of all (what to do with the previous 2GB + 2GB Ram)
SSD:Minimum 128 Gb ( what to do with previous 500 GB

I ignored the (with price) part. Sorry.
    Crucial m4 512GB SSD - from Amazon - $389.99.
    Crucial m4 256GB SSD - from Amazon - $203.84.
    Crucial m4 128GB SSD - from Amazon - $112.87.
    Crucial 8GB RAM for 2010 15" MacBook Pro - from Crucial - $47.99.
What to do with your old RAM? Just trash it or label it and put it in an anti-static bag and put it in your 'parts' drawer. Or trash it. Or give it away. It's not worth anything.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • So ML's new airplay functionality won't work on a Macbook Pro 2010?

Was there anything in the advertisements for the new Airplay functionality via ML that it wouldn't apply to any machines prior to 2011?
Am I just missing something about how to enable it, or is my MacBook Pro 2010 really unable to make use of the mirroring functionality?
I have this sinking feeling that I've been hosed

    to say the least, DIS-appointing.
Apple's done a better job in the past of identifying which machines would work with software upgrades. I suppose I missed the fine print, but since this kind of functionality would be highly coveted, it would've served Apple to make more prominent in their descriptions this issue.

  • Brand New Macbook Pro 2010 - Cracking body !

    Hi !
I just bought the new macbook pro 2010 with hi-res and anti-glare screen (very impressive).
But something very annoying appeared few days ago when I started using my computer on my laps : it cracks !
I investigated to found the origin of this cracking noise and I succeed in it : the body is cracking when I exerce a little pression on the center of the bottom of the aluminium body. Consequently it cracks only on an unstable surface when the four "black feet" do not ensure a minimal interstice between the surface and the body.
Moreover, it cracks even when the computer is off, even when the computer is cold, so it's nor a drive optic issue neither movement detector, neither dilatation.
How do you explain that ? Remember, my computer is brand new, I just putted out of the box few days ago, no shock, no impact.
I pay the price to have a perfect product, so I want some explanations.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards.

Welcome to the forums g.dubreuil !
This is a user to user support forum and issues raised here are not addressed by Apple employees. I agree with your statement of expecting a perfect product. If you've just bought it, simply contact Apple (or visit an Apple store) and have them take a look at it. I'm not exactly sure of what you are explaining, but if they agree that there is a problem, you should be able to get it replaced... which I would think preferable to an explanation.

  • My MacBook Pro 2010 won't update from 10.6.8 to 10.9

Recently I tried updating my MacBook Pro 2010 13 inch from osx 10.6.8 to osx 10.9.
On the mavericks installer my hard drive is greyed out and when I try to click on it to install mavericks it just says "you cannot install osx to this harddrive". My specs are 4 GB of ram, 2.4ghz processor, 250 GB harddrive with 249 GB of free spaces.
    Please help!

How is the drive formatted and what is the Partition Table set to. If you have a format of "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case sensitive" or the Partition Table is set to anything other than GUID that might be the reason Mavericks won't install. Not really sure but check that out.
Other than that you could backup you Mac with time machine, wipe the drive, actually repartition it with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) [NO Case Sensitive] and a partition table of GUID and do a clean install of Snow Leopard, Update that to 10.6.8 then upgrade to Mavericks use Migration assistant to restore your files setting and apps.

  • MAcBook Pro (2010) i7 17" Strange problem (filesystem crash)

About month ago I changed my 1 year old MBP 2009 to MacBook Pro 2010 17" i7 one. I moved SSD (Patriot KOI 256GB) and 8GB of RAM to new device. I have noticed strange problem - sometimes filesystem crashes. When application ask to reboot system (because of reboot or instalation) sometimes system refuse to start - it shows progress bar similar to the one shown when going back from deep sleep. Or I can hear bell (standard one) but after this system powers off. The only way to have system working back is to use Disc Warrior to repair it because Disk Utility from install DVD can't repair filesystem and suggest to reinstall it and take data from backup.
I have no such problems with previous device. It happens even on fresh system for example just after installing Norton Internet Security (when installer asked for permission to reboot). I have no sudden hangs, no other problems at all.
    Any suggestions?
During month it happens about 10 times. I even prepared my rescue USB with installed system and Disk Warrior.
Hardware test goes without problems. SMART status of drive is ok.

You can ignore the advice of nearly all the long-time contributors to these Discussions and keep Norton utilities on your Mac, but I guarantee that every time you mention Norton anything in these forums, you will be advised to remove it completely. Perhaps it isn't responsible for your present problem, but I'm certainly not convinced of that, and because Norton software is a well-known cause of trouble in OS X, I suspect many other people reading this thread won't be convinced either.
When you reinstalled the OS on your new machine, did you do so from the DVDs that came with it? Did you completely erase the hard drive?

  • Frequent aero crashes in Windows 7 - Macbook Pro 2010

    Hi all,
has anyone come across this issue?
I have had continuous Aero crashes in my Windows 7 x64 installation and the new Macbook Pro 2010 with nvidia 330m.
During window resizing, video playback, aero and the whole desktop window manager will frequently crash. I have reinstalled twice the operating system, installed alternate nvidia forceware drivers (from laptopvideo2go.com) with no success.
When such a crash occurs the following error message is recorded in the Windows Event Log, Application category: 'The Desktop Window manager has encountered a fatal error'.
    Any feedback will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Theo

I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to paste over! Here's what happens to me. I've got 257.15 downloaded and extracted. Then I go here:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/enhancer
I select driver version 257.15, set it for performance, select a number of different options on the page, most of which mean nothing to me, and download a ile named nv4_disp.inf. The problem is that I can't "replace" that file because that file doesn't exist in the driver installation folder. There are a lot of inf files, but none of them have that name.
I've tried to install directly from the generated inf file by selecting update driver on the display adapter, then going manually to the inf file. It works up to the point where it shows me the 330M as compatible hardware, but when I try to install it, it says it encountered an error while attempting to install it, "The system cannot find the file specified."
So what's up with my inf file? I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong there.
One thing that may complicate this is that I uninstalled and deleted the Boot Camp driver while following another set of instructions on how to fix this issue. Do I need to reinstall that driver, by chance? Then upgrade from that?
Any tips on how to recover and get back working again (preferably with updated less crash prone drivers!) would be hugely appreciated. I do development on Windows 7 and have been having a LOT of crash issues related to this!
