Hi All,
I have had my 13" MacBook Pro since mid 2010 and its been great. Suddenly, four days back after coming home from work, it refused to turn on. The battery was fully charged and no physcial damage has happened to the laptop. I tried SMC reset, NRAM reset, unplugging the battery for some time, cleaning the inside, and nothing worked.
The next evening, I tried turning it on and it just booted normally and worked fine. I then turned it off and again refused to turn on the next day. After about 24hrs it turned on, again completely out of luck. I didnt turn it off this time and let it into sleep mode. The next morning, it again refused to wake up from sleep mode, despite the white light in the front continuing to blink as it does when it is in sleep mode.
It has yet to start up again and I have no idea what to do. Is it my button? Is it my battery or charger? Is it the logic board? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
ARWelcome to Apple Support Communities
It could be a battery or logic board issue, but it's difficult to know what's failing. You can discard a software problem because it happens in "cold" startups.
The best thing you can do is to take it to an Apple Store. Diagnostic is free and the Genius will tell you what's happening with your Mac. Unfortunately, if it's a logic board issue and you don't have AppleCare, this will be an expensive repair -

Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple store.

macbook pro 2010 only will turn on if i hold the power button down for atleast 7 seconds.....before i could just press it and it would come right on
I tried those already, did not work.
I did how ever remove the command key and wiped it down and it turns on perfectly!
but now the keyboard keys seem to be out of place or something. For example it makes a "ping" sound when i hit some of them, when i hit function or control it puts the letter Z.
Any input would be great! -
Macbook Pro 2010 ja digital output - not turning on.
On Christmas we got a New Macbook Pro 2010 for my girlfriend and today I noticed when I connect a mini-spdif to the Pro, digital output does not switch on.
On the system preferences it show that the internal speakers are turned on, all the time.
When I connect the mini-spdif to my 2009 unibody it works like a charm, like it has done all the time.
Any hints or tips to solve this problem?
I've read other posts and noticed that people have the problem other way around, the digital output wont turn off.If it wasn't custom-configured (i.e. it has no non-standard options), you may still be able to exchange it at a physical Apple Store. If you custom-configured it, it will have to be repaired instead of exchanged. At least that's Apple's policy in the USA.

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port. -
Where can i get the macbook pro (2010) bootcamp drivers for windows 7?
I recently decided to install windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) on my macbook pro (2010 model). However my macbook did not come with installation disks, i know this for a fact and it came pre installed with 10.6. And when i try to download the windows support files through bootcamp assistant, it says that the download cannot continue. So where can i get these drivers from?
All MBP's with Snow Leopard (10.6) came with an installaton disc, and that is where the drivers are, if you don't have (or didn't get) the disc contact Apple for a replacement, there is no downloadable version of BC3

How to Solve Windows 8 Metro App Crash on Macbook Pro 2010 13"
There is a known problem
(See http://www.onebitzero.com/how-to-fix-metro-apps-from-crashing-under-nvidia-beta- driver-296-17-in-windows-8/ )
that many notebooks equipped with nVIDIA GPU and running Windows 8 will crash some Modern UI (Metro) apps,
including Game, Camera, Remote Desktop, ... apps.
My MacBook Pro 2010 13" has an nVIDIA GeForce 320M.
I installed Windows 8 Pro RTM gotten from DreamSpark Premium and Boot Camp Software 3.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Unfortunately, I met the Modern UI app crash problem.
I fought against this problem two days and almostly surrended.
Unbelievablely, I could solve it.
Yes. We can simply solve the crash problem by installing the latest 301.42 driver download from nvidia.com.
But it is not perfect: we will find we can't adjust the brightness anymore.
I also tried many methods, including modifies .inf files and change permissions but all are failed.
Except one for which I got an idea from Windows Event Viewer.
I found I got an error event when I launched the problematic Modern UI app. For example,
"Faulting application name: wwahost.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107c6e
Faulting module name: nvd3dumx.dll, version: 8.17.11.9682, time stamp: 0x4b884f8a"
(Attention! The following steps are at your risks.
Or you may not try it.)
The steps to solve the crash problem and simultanously preserve the brightness adjustment function are:
1. Download the latest 301.42 driver from nvidia.com. Then, click it to extract files to C:\
and we don't install it.
2. Copy the Boot Camp nVIDIA driver files from "13-inch MacBook Pro Mac OS X Install DVD,"
ie. this folder:
(DVD drive):\Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64
3. Replace the older nvd3dumx.dl_ with the newer one.
I.e. overwrite
Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\nvd3dumx.dl_
by
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver\nvd 3dumx.dl_
4. Follow this tutorial to turn off driver integrity check:
http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/05/05/disable-driver-signing-windows-7/
and reboot.
5. Install the modified driver by clicking
Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\setup.exe
6. Reboot your computer and good luck. The method described above is too complex.
I found a more easy way to solve the Modern app crash problem.
That is to download the legacy driver 296.10 here
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/beta-legacy
Unfortunately, 296.10 and 19x don't solve all problems on Windows 8:

My MacBook Pro 2010 won't update from 10.6.8 to 10.9
Recently I tried updating my MacBook Pro 2010 13 inch from osx 10.6.8 to osx 10.9.
On the mavericks installer my hard drive is greyed out and when I try to click on it to install mavericks it just says "you cannot install osx to this harddrive". My specs are 4 GB of ram, 2.4ghz processor, 250 GB harddrive with 249 GB of free spaces.
Please help! How is the drive formatted and what is the Partition Table set to. If you have a format of "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case sensitive" or the Partition Table is set to anything other than GUID that might be the reason Mavericks won't install. Not really sure but check that out.
Other than that you could backup you Mac with time machine, wipe the drive, actually repartition it with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) [NO Case Sensitive] and a partition table of GUID and do a clean install of Snow Leopard, Update that to 10.6.8 then upgrade to Mavericks use Migration assistant to restore your files setting and apps. -
MacBook Pro 2010: Flashing folder w/? on not responding to startup keys & I'm trying to install a new hard drive, can anyone help?
Thanks. It started up com that disk but when I went to install it had an error message (didn't get to write out what it said). So I attempted to restore from time machine but it said there was no space, even though it's a new (replacement under warranty) HGST 1TB HD, so I did what I think was right and tried to partition the disk but it now says 'Partition faild...POSIX report...cannot allocate memory'. im not sure what to do, and I'm trying to remember how the previous hd was installed and formatted for use but that was over a year ago now. Should have erased the hd first or something?

Macbook Pro 2010 keeps freezing and restarting
Hi.
Last few days I have problems with my macbook pro 2010 model, running latest OS and all software. I have problems with freezing very often. Screen turns to black and after few seconds it restarts automaticly. It happens when I try to open iPhoto, surf the web (scrolling quickly). I have tried to restore OS to older state from Time Machine, but didn't help. It also shows this report:

Anyone knows what this happens or what coud be problem? I suspect my HDD, cos it always happens when the HDD is reading, or it could be RAM problem? But why now? I didn't change anything lately (only systen updates last week).
Please help. ThanksBackup your users files regardless

Macbook Pro 2010 upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite keeps shutting down on its own
I upgraded to OS X Yosemite about a month ago, I have a macbook pro 2010, and in the last two weeks it started shutting down on its own. At first when i'd wake it, the fan would come on loudly and then it would shut down. In the last couple of days, I would make sure all programs were shut when it wasn't in use and then put it to sleep but every time i'd return it would be shut down and need a hard restart. If i just pressed the on button lightly it wouldn't start. And when i turn it on the fan comes on immediately. I'm a publisher so I'm working in indesign and illustrator a lot but I keep a constant look out for my memory and this isn't the problem. I'm working to a deadline here and can't afford to lose my computer for 3 days in the mac store (I live in Barbados) to get it fixed. Any advise?

Weird Display issue MacBook Pro 2010 15"
Hey
i recently turned my MacBook pro on and after about ten minutes my display started to flicker some coloured lines until settling on this flickering:
I restarted, tried to see if any updates where avaiable neither of which helped,
I took a screen shot and emailed it to my partners Laptop and the lines wern't there, so i dont think it is a software problem.
i then shut down my laptop for the night and turned it on the next day and it was fine, about 40 minutes on it and it started flashing again but didnt go as bad as the previous day, It hasnt done it since but im slightly concerned as you can imagine.
Tech Tool Deluxe reports no problems at all.
I do have apple care but im out the country at the moment so not much i can do about it if things get worse, i will be taking it to get checked over when i return home in a month!
Has anyone had similar issues, or got any ideas as to what caused this?
Specs:
MacBook Pro 2010 I5 2.53Ghz 15"

Western Digital Scorpio Blue 640gb 5000RPM in Optibay
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB graphics and built in cardI will have to when i get home in a month,
it hasn't done it for a while now so hopefully i can last out the month with out any serious problems, my main concern is the graphics going completly and me not being able to use my laptop at all!
