Macbook pro 2010 usb disabled
I have a MacBook Pro late 2010 (unibody) and both USB ports are disabled. Got that message about a device consuming too much......but after removing it....still not working. Not even the network port is working. I tried few tips found on forum (PRAM reset and power reset) and still nothing........
Please help!
Ohh...one quick thing...it workes if I connect a powered device (external hard drive).
Thanks a lot!
USB take power away from the internal supply.
If you buy a "powered USB hub" (plugged into an AC outlet), it relieves the stress and the system does not "waffle around" trying to power things that are plugged in (like stealing power from RJ45).
These hubs allow connection of up to 10 devices depending on the model of hub you choose.
Just a thought, based on the fact that a self-powered device did work.

Hi everyone,
My Macbook pro(2010) is not reading the internal Hard Drive. At first I thought it to be a hard drive gone bad, so i bought a new hard drive. My macbook is still not reading the Hard Drive. I am able to use the original hard drive through a external(USB) connection. Also, when the macbook turns, there is a redelling sound. Can anyone offer me any suggestions to what the problem might be?It sounds like the internal cable connecting the HDD to the logic board is improperly connected or faulty. An appointment at an Apple genius bar might be a good option. The repair should not be too expensive.

Macbook pro 2010 not showing hdd in disk utility but shows the same in usb
Macbook pro 2010 not showing hard disk in disk uility but same hdd shows when connected to usb original drive, also installed new hard disk 500gb, same result, but connected old hard disk of 500gb shows in disk utility and also able to installed os on it, tried installing lion 10.7 on it with the original and new hdd but not shows in disk utility pls help for this problem
I'm kind of experiencing the same issue now.
A few days ago, when starting up my Mini, I would get a warning that the system didn't recognize the drive with the option to ignore. I hit ignore and all seven drives would mount. Because I have seven drives attached, I had no idea what drive was giving the warning.
Today that drive failed to load up at all. I ran disk utility and after several tries, it said repair was successful yet the drive will not mount.
I'm currently running recovery software on it to see if I can copy everything from it to another drive. It is a fairly old drive, about 3 years old so it's time is short.
I don't have any suggestions but mine does show in disk utility. -
Kernal Panic Help with Macbook Pro 2010
Hello fellow Kernal Panic enthusiasts.
I've had random panics more frequently on a Macbook Pro 2010. I've tried correcting permissions, resetting PRAM etc. It seem to happen at random, sometimes with flash (which has been disabled by default) in Chrome. Other occasions its completely random when using the finder, etc. Chrome crashes frequently, and again at random. Same happens for Firefox and Safari – it seems to be whichever I am using most frequently There's no way to repeat the panic.
Thank you for the help/suggestions in advance.
Here's a copy of my log:

Pace is a copy protection software for some third party program your running, it's for Snow Leopard and this issue has appeared here before and once today even.
Quark Inc was here about their driver, so check them for a update.
Take note of the softwares above, your going to be reinstalling some of them from fresh sources and updating.
Run through the Steps 1-8 here and see if that solves your problem.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Disable all at login/boot softwares.
Yes some third party software mentioned above is not going to work as #8 Reinstall Just OS X will kick their parts out of OS X itself (but not out of Applications), but what you do is reinstall them one at a time, when it's been updated and verified to work with your OS X verison. (uninstall using the developers program or instructions, do not use AppDelete type software)
Take your time and if problems come back you know it's the last one installed is at fault.
The object with #1-8 is to make sure machine and OS X is fine, then decide from there what third party software is at fault.
If your problems continue despite the above software not being run or installed, then proceed with the further Steps #9-16 in the hunt for the real cause.
Chrome has been known to cause problems around here, it runs a root level updater for all Google software, it's hard to remove and one has to not use any Google software to prevent it being reinstalled.
Good luck in your process of elimination. -

How to Solve Windows 8 Metro App Crash on Macbook Pro 2010 13"
There is a known problem
(See http://www.onebitzero.com/how-to-fix-metro-apps-from-crashing-under-nvidia-beta- driver-296-17-in-windows-8/ )
that many notebooks equipped with nVIDIA GPU and running Windows 8 will crash some Modern UI (Metro) apps,
including Game, Camera, Remote Desktop, ... apps.
My MacBook Pro 2010 13" has an nVIDIA GeForce 320M.
I installed Windows 8 Pro RTM gotten from DreamSpark Premium and Boot Camp Software 3.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Unfortunately, I met the Modern UI app crash problem.
I fought against this problem two days and almostly surrended.
Unbelievablely, I could solve it.
Yes. We can simply solve the crash problem by installing the latest 301.42 driver download from nvidia.com.
But it is not perfect: we will find we can't adjust the brightness anymore.
I also tried many methods, including modifies .inf files and change permissions but all are failed.
Except one for which I got an idea from Windows Event Viewer.
I found I got an error event when I launched the problematic Modern UI app. For example,
"Faulting application name: wwahost.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107c6e
Faulting module name: nvd3dumx.dll, version: 8.17.11.9682, time stamp: 0x4b884f8a"
(Attention! The following steps are at your risks.
Or you may not try it.)
The steps to solve the crash problem and simultanously preserve the brightness adjustment function are:
1. Download the latest 301.42 driver from nvidia.com. Then, click it to extract files to C:\
and we don't install it.
2. Copy the Boot Camp nVIDIA driver files from "13-inch MacBook Pro Mac OS X Install DVD,"
ie. this folder:
(DVD drive):\Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64
3. Replace the older nvd3dumx.dl_ with the newer one.
I.e. overwrite
Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\nvd3dumx.dl_
by
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver\nvd 3dumx.dl_
4. Follow this tutorial to turn off driver integrity check:
http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/05/05/disable-driver-signing-windows-7/
and reboot.
5. Install the modified driver by clicking
Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\setup.exe
6. Reboot your computer and good luck. The method described above is too complex.
I found a more easy way to solve the Modern app crash problem.
That is to download the legacy driver 296.10 here
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/beta-legacy
Unfortunately, 296.10 and 19x don't solve all problems on Windows 8:

My macbook pro 2010 is really laggy and slow any help
my macbook pro 2010 is really laggy and slow any help
Hi..
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac GuidesFreeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides
Starting up in Safe Mode deletes system caches that can help also. Keep in mind a Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient. Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Restart.
And disabling the resume feature can help.
Open System Preferences > General. Deselect: Reopen windows when quitting and re-opening apps -
MAcBook Pro (2010) i7 17" Strange problem (filesystem crash)
About month ago I changed my 1 year old MBP 2009 to MacBook Pro 2010 17" i7 one. I moved SSD (Patriot KOI 256GB) and 8GB of RAM to new device. I have noticed strange problem - sometimes filesystem crashes. When application ask to reboot system (because of reboot or instalation) sometimes system refuse to start - it shows progress bar similar to the one shown when going back from deep sleep. Or I can hear bell (standard one) but after this system powers off. The only way to have system working back is to use Disc Warrior to repair it because Disk Utility from install DVD can't repair filesystem and suggest to reinstall it and take data from backup.
I have no such problems with previous device. It happens even on fresh system for example just after installing Norton Internet Security (when installer asked for permission to reboot). I have no sudden hangs, no other problems at all.
Any suggestions?
During month it happens about 10 times. I even prepared my rescue USB with installed system and Disk Warrior.
Hardware test goes without problems. SMART status of drive is ok.You can ignore the advice of nearly all the long-time contributors to these Discussions and keep Norton utilities on your Mac, but I guarantee that every time you mention Norton anything in these forums, you will be advised to remove it completely. Perhaps it isn't responsible for your present problem, but I'm certainly not convinced of that, and because Norton software is a well-known cause of trouble in OS X, I suspect many other people reading this thread won't be convinced either.
When you reinstalled the OS on your new machine, did you do so from the DVDs that came with it? Did you completely erase the hard drive? -

Shutdown then restart if possible. If you do restart OK, then try the update again after doing this:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Macbook Pro 2010 Hard Drive Constant Verification Problem
Hi guys and girls. I'm at my wits end with my beloved Macbook Pro 2010. Recently in the last 6 months it has randomly on 3 occasions just powered down all of a sudden during operating. When it restarts it comes up with the apple logo and that loading bar underneath but fails to fully load and once again powers off.
I then go into CMD+R and will find that the Hitachi HDD will state 'SMART STATUS' as 'Verified' and it will verify permissions. When I go to verify the disk it comes up with an error. if i try and do a back up I get the common 'error 20'; message even if I try it to an external hard drive or different usbs.
In the end I have to reinstall the OSX and install the OSX on a 1TB Toshiba USB, then the mac restarts and works but keeps booting off my Toshiba USB. I end up having to use superclone and transfer it to the Hitachi drive. The Hitachi drive will format and work once the OSX is running.
Randomly this cycle will repeat itself every few months - ie computer turns off all of a sudden..FAIL loading..and same problem with disk utility.
I wanted to ask is this as my hard drive needs replacing that this is happening or do I have a more serious problem?

If I replace the internal hard drive and the same thing happens again, this would mean it is a cable issue?
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2010+Hard+Drive-IR+ Sensor+Cable+Replacement/3031
Unplugging and reconnecting the cable may resolve it - bad connection
Yes, that is a possibility. Reconnecting may solve the issue but that is not a 100% solution.
How would I go about unplugging and reconnecting it when am installing the new internal hard drive?
I am guessing that you have a 13" 2010 MBP. If not, the same web site has instructions for 2010 15" and 17" MBPs as well. Examine these instructions:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2010+Hard+Drive+Cab le+Replacement/4304
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2010+Hard+Drive+Rep lacement/4305
Also in terms of the phillips and torx to install the internal hard drive- would this one be suitable that shop sells?- http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/23-in-1-multi-function-precision-screwdriver-n42jx
NO! That tool does not have the correct sizes for either driver. #00 Phillips, #6 Torx are the ones you need.

Macbook pro 2010 Graphics issue
I have a macbook pro 2010 which has the dreaded graphics swathing issue which causes random restarts all the time. This was a issue with this model and trying to charge me £500 to get fixed LOL. My question is i just heard they are doing free fixes for certain issues will this issue be covered..????
Not on a 2010. The program for your MBP has expired. The new program is for 2011 models and some latewr.
What you may try is installing the following:
https://gfx.io/
This will allow you to disable the discrete GPU and run only on the integrated one. there will be a loss in graphics performance.

Could you please resolve this problem,Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Simply take it to an Apple Store or reseller if it's in warranty. Your Mac will be repaired or replaced for free because it looks a hardware problem rather than a software issue.
If it's not in warranty, hold Command and R keys while your MacBook is starting up, and reinstall OS X. If it doesn't work, you can't do much more to solve the problem -
