MacBook Pro 2010 wont turn on

Hi All,
I have had my 13" MacBook Pro since mid 2010 and its been great. Suddenly, four days back after coming home from work, it refused to turn on. The battery was fully charged and no physcial damage has happened to the laptop. I tried SMC reset, NRAM reset, unplugging the battery for some time, cleaning the inside, and nothing worked.
The next evening, I tried turning it on and it just booted normally and worked fine. I then turned it off and again refused to turn on the next day. After about 24hrs it turned on, again completely out of luck. I didnt turn it off this time and let it into sleep mode. The next morning, it again refused to wake up from sleep mode, despite the white light in the front continuing to blink as it does when it is in sleep mode.
It has yet to start up again and I have no idea what to do. Is it my button? Is it my battery or charger? Is it the logic board? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It could be a battery or logic board issue, but it's difficult to know what's failing. You can discard a software problem because it happens in "cold" startups.
The best thing you can do is to take it to an Apple Store. Diagnostic is free and the Genius will tell you what's happening with your Mac. Unfortunately, if it's a logic board issue and you don't have AppleCare, this will be an expensive repair

  • MacBook pro 13 wont turn on

Hello! so i have a MacBook Pro 13 inch. That i bought last November. With a battery that can not be taken off. So i've been suffering battery problems several times before which occurs in my laptop shutting off all of a sudden with the power's adapter light going off and on continuously, The first time it happened i made the SMC reset Ctrl+Alt+ Power button. and it worked for me just fine! the second time it happened, The same problem indeed, SMC did not work so i had to take it to the store where i bought it from. And the support service fixed it for me, They did not explain how but i understood that the employee used something to absorb all the overwhelming energy in the battery and recharge it normally again and so it worked. And he asked me not to leave it in the charger more than it demands or never leave it empty for so long. The third time it happened which was a week ago, It shut down the exact same way it happened before with the same weak adapter lightening. And i took it to them again, they said that they checked it and there was no problem with the battery whatsoever since they tried SMC and tried the other method as well. The guy asked me if i had dropped the MacBook before because it might be broken from the inside. I told him for sure that i never happened to drop it in anyway 100% positive and it had no scratches anywhere. I am a savvy user and a careful one + I have a case protecting it. He said that he is only making assumptions about it and asked me to leave it to him for couple of days. When i came back to take it he said that he tried to reset it but it never worked. The weird part is that the power adapter is completely green at this point and the lights on the left side of my computer are also working just fine as if it was fixed. But it will still not turn on so i am very surprised. We don't really have great mac engineers in this region so i figured that i should fix it myself. And it is very urgent that i get it fixed very soon. Please if you have any idea that could help i would really appreciate it.

I very much doubt this is something you can fix by yourself. Get in touch with Apple as soon as possible, to report this issue, and explain that previous attempts to solve it permanently have failed. Also reveal your doubts about the local service provider.

  • MacBook pro screen wont turn on mechine turns on but front sleep light is dim

So I was just browsing on chrome on my MacBook pro and suddenly the screen froze and from the top of the screen it started to get dim and came down right to the center of the screen and then another black shade ontop of that came down and stopped in the middle it did this until the top half was completely dark but the bottom half is ok and nothing happend oh by the way I was just on Facebook I wasn't on a website that was harmful to the Mac so any ways I then I held the power button until it turns off thinking it would work normaly but it didnt, when I turned it on I heard the fan turn really fast and then it slowed down and the front sleep light came on and it stayed like that, i could also hear the hard drive spinning inside I closed it and the sleep light is on  it but now it brighter and it's not even going dark and bright like its supposed to do when it's sleeping. Can someone please help?

If no joy try a pramreset: power off the MBP, power back up, before the start chime press and hold optio, command, P, R, and continue tohold them until your the chime 2 times then release. Reboot.
If still not happy try a safe boot, power up  holding the shift key, continue to hold the key until you the progress bar and gear then release. This will show if it could be a third party software problem, this will boot the MBP with only essential applications running. Be patient as this takes longer than normal. Try things out, if normal, shut down and restart and see if things are still messed up.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Macbook pro 2010 wont start up?

My wife used my macbook pro in battery mode until it went flat and died on her. She plugged it in to recharge and when she tried using it again it just opened the first grey screen (with spinning wheel) and stayed like that!! Ive tried some suggested reboots to no avail and now it opens grey screen with spinning wheel and a bar apears below for a minute or so then it just closes down again. Any ideas guys??? Cheers:)

Well, I´m the geeky type of guy, so I have quite a lot of computers, so what I did is I took the hard drive out of my MacBook Pro and inserted it into a 2.5" external enclosure, then copied the files i wanted on to another computer.
Then put hard drive backing computer and insert a Mac OS 10.6.3 Snow Leopard install disk > partition the hard drive and install Snow Leopard > copy the data from the computer that you have previously copied the data on to a memory stick or a external hard drive and transfer it to your MacBook Pro
    Thats what i´ve done
    hope this helps!

  • My Macbook pro 15 wont turn on again.

My computer just shuts down while I am working and wont turn back on. This happens with the cord in or not. I have to wait until the battery is completely dead to get the computer to finally turn on. Why is it constantly doing this? I have taken it into apple stores and the techs keep telling me nothing is wrong, yet it continues to happen. How do I fix this issue?

  • Macbook Pro 2010 ja digital output - not turning on.

On Christmas we got a New Macbook Pro 2010 for my girlfriend and today I noticed when I connect a mini-spdif to the Pro, digital output does not switch on.
On the system preferences it show that the internal speakers are turned on, all the time.
When I connect the mini-spdif to my 2009 unibody it works like a charm, like it has done all the time.
Any hints or tips to solve this problem?
I've read other posts and noticed that people have the problem other way around, the digital output wont turn off.

If it wasn't custom-configured (i.e. it has no non-standard options), you may still be able to exchange it at a physical Apple Store. If you custom-configured it, it will have to be repaired instead of exchanged. At least that's Apple's policy in the USA.

macbook pro 2010 only will turn on if i hold the power button down for atleast 7 seconds.....before i could just press it and it would come right on

I tried those already, did not work.
I did how ever remove the command key and wiped it down and it turns on perfectly!
but now the keyboard keys seem to be out of place or something. For example it makes a "ping" sound when i hit some of them, when i hit function or control it puts the letter Z.

  • Lion Login gives me Beach Ball lock up - Macbook Pro 2010

Ever since i updated my Macbook Pro 2010 15 i7 to lion, when i turn it on and it comes to the log in screen (i need it password protected for turning on), the beach ball just spins and it wont let me type my password in.
I ran disk permissions, i made sure my HD wasnt over loaded, ram has been in there since i got the mbp. I reset the pram once it let me in, then later on the mbp crahsed on me and it told me to restart it. I did and the beach ball came back on the log in. I powered down and reset the pram and still i got a beach ball at log in. Powered down again and it let me type my password half way then beach ball. Powered down again and then it let me type my whole password.
Have to say this is becoming a hassle, anyone have any ideas? or is it best to just go back to Snow Leapord?

I'm having the same problems on a 2011 iMac i7.
It won't let me type in my password - the spinning beachball is there instead.
It only happens to me when I leave my iMac locked for long periods of time.
