Macbook pro 2011 keeps kernel panicking intermittently

My new macbook pro keeps crashing every hour to day. I have lost a great deal of work as a result, and this problem is really starting to get aggravating. I have done numerous reinstalls from the lion dmg imaged to a usb drive and this problem will not go away. I have an ssd and have upgraded the ram to 8gb. I ran ram tester in single user mode 4 times and it found now problems. I am at a loss of how to proceed. The following is the kernel panic infomration given on reboot:

It crashed the in Finder due to a Page Fault. That should never happen.
You have multiple virtualization systems loaded, any one of which is capable of causing this crash, especially if they are not absolutely up to date. You should make up your mind and use ONE virtualization system { VMWare, Parallels}.
Anti Virus software is a personal preference, but is it also completely up-to-date?

  • Early macbook pro 2011 keeps shutting down

I have an early 2011 macbook pro , and yesterday I updated its firmware to the latest version ( as suggested by the Software Update agent ). Since then it keeps shutting down something like after 30 minutes. I first noticed this when using Windows 7 and thought there is a problem with windows so I wiped the whole system and re installed OS X Lion. Again the same thing with the OS X Lion.
Is there anyway to revert the firmware updates?
    any suggestions?

I got my macbook pro tested with ASD, and surprisingly the failure occurs in Open GL , 12 erros .
I have been using my mbp for like a year and nothing had happened to it until the recent Firmware Update.

  • New Macbook Pro 2011 - Keep freezing......

    Hi All,
My new macbook pro keep freezing from time to time......Even though I have updated the OS to 10.6.7, the problem still exists....
    Anyone can help?
    V

If the "funny noise" was a clicking or clattering it is probably a failed or failing hard drive. No, I don't think it had anything to do with the update. I'm assuming the "funny noise" was not the sound of the CD/DVD drive waking up you hear each time your reboot. Does it still make the "funny noise?"
If it is now working, I can't tell from your post, you probably should make an appointment at an Apple Store to have it checked since it is new.
It is generally a good idea to empty the trash and repair permissions (using Disk Utility) before and after any update. You should have a copy of Onyx on your HD. The developer is very active so keep up with the updates. it is free. It's a good idea to follow the instructions.
If I could only have one heavy duty repair solution, it would be DiskWarrior which is available at most Apple Stores. The developer has been around since System 8 or System 9 days. DiskWarrior is $99.95 and considering it will repair problems that other utilities can't touch, it is a steal. I run DiskWarrior about once a month.
Finally, I would get AppleJack which only runs in Single User Mode. That means holding down the <Command> and <S> keys at startup. AppleJack makes it possible to run Disk Repair without having to boot from an external drive or using the install disks. Follow the instructions. AppleJack is free. A plus is you will get to see what is going on "under the hood" because Single User Mode is mostly just the Unix part of Mac OS. You will get to see what all computers looked like just a few decades ago.
    Good luck

  • My macbook pro 2011 keeps restarting

I have a macbook pro early 2011, today it started acting up, it freezes for a moment and then restart by itself, and I don't know what the issue is

    denpat,
which version of OS X is installed on your Early 2011 MacBook Pro?
If you boot into Safe mode, does your MacBook Pro act in the same way?

  • Macbook Pro 2011 keeps freezing and disconnecting from internet

Ever since I upgraded to 10.8 Mountain Lion, my macbook has been acting up and its becoming a real big hassle.
The first big issue is it keeps freezing. Everything freezes, the only thing I can do is move my mouse cursor around but I can't open anything, everything just becomes frozen. Whenever this happens I have to hard reset my macbook and turn it on again all the time. This occurs between an hour of use to 3 days of use, its always random.
My 2nd issue is my airport keeps disconnecting, It doesn't show that its disconnected but I can never connect to anything or open any pages on google chrome or safari.
Can anyone figure out whats the source of this issue? I took it into the genius bar and they weren't even sure either, but then again they didn't do a thorough investigation they just quickly looked at it because I was runnnig short on time.

Been having the same problem since I upgraded to Mountain Lion - MBP (2011) crashing at least twice a day. I noticed that it's Chrome that crashes first, so I'm using Safari for now, so lets see if it makes any difference.

  • Macbook pro 2011 early cannot find right resolution for external display and keeps flickering

I have a macbook pro 2011 early running 10.9, and a LG FLATRON W2242T external screen. Also, I have a VGA to miniport from Apple and a VGA to HDMI, plus a HDMI to miniport(from Apple). By just connect with VGA to miniport to my MBP, it just flickers few times and stops detecting. But by connect VGA to HDMI converter and HDMI to miniport to my MBP, it keeps flickering, a non-stop flickering. The external screen always shows no signal. However, if I connect my MBP to my TV through HDMI to miniport, it works fine. But connecting the VGA port to my TV, it gets the same problem. I have tried clear my PRAM many times, and it gets the same result. Does anyone have the same problem? Thanks

Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011 external display won't work as it used while Snow Leopard, I hate you Lion so far. I cannot even Go Back!
Did you bother to backup or clone your SL installation before dumping it?

  • Is anyone having a problem connecting 400 firewire thru an adapter for the 800 firewire port on a Macbook Pro 2011? It does a kernel panic every time I connect it. Is there a "proper way" to connect it?

Is anyone having a problem connecting 400 firewire thru an adapter for the 800 firewire port on a Macbook Pro 2011? It does a kernel panic every time I connect it. Is there a "proper way" to connect it? Just in case it makes a difference I am trying to hook up an Avid Mbox Pro for Pro tools.

What is the part number and model of Firewire adapter?
I have used them in the past without any problems whatsoever.

  • MacBook Pro getting constant kernel panics right since updating to 10.8.5

    Hello,
I have my personal MacBook Pro and I've noticed that since I've updated the OS to Mountain Lion, I'm getting kernel panics for the first time since I've been using Macs, and it's getting more constant, up to the poin I've just had 3 in a row.
I've been reading that MacBooks from Mid 2011 may have a problem with the graphic card, and as far as I remember, I got mine about that time, and all my .panic files seem to point into the GPU direction.
I have the panic files for the panics that happened this last month, and I'm copying the last one, that happened just 15 minutes ago.

Is this one of those Macbooks or this may be a different problem?
    Thank you

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair. The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending quite soon.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Macbook Pro Retina keeps restarting "due to a problem" as well as imovie and Skype

My new Macbook Pro Retina keeps restarting "due to a problem", when I open my skype it crashes and my imovie crashes all the time as well. I just got this computer last week. If someone could please help me out.

    Call Apple Care.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 running very slowly after upgrading to Mavericks

I am in deep trouble with my wife so any help would be gratefully accepted.
Shortly after Mavericks became available I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro 2011 to use the new OS version. Ever since then, the Macbook has been running noticeably slowly. In particular, Mail is almost unusuable taking minutes to open and showing long delays while moving around messages, folders, etc. Excel and Word are also much slower, Safari is slow, in fact just about everything is grinding.
Any ideas on what can I can do to improve things and apease my unhappy wife would be much appreciated.
I have attached the Etrecheck output FYI
    Thanks
    Andrew

  • Macbook Pro 2011 - Apple It's time

    Hi,
So I'm the owner of a new second-hand 17" Macbook, for years I've dreamed of getting one of these and today was finally the day it happened. Specs are
    Macbook Pro 2011 Late
    i7 2.4Ghz
    6770m
    8gb RAM
At first the laptop booted up fine so I decided to do what any new proud macbook owner would do, show it of at work. During the course of the day I experienced intermittent freezing issues and eventually a blue screen of death. I thought to myself that I must of brought a dud and immediately went to contact the person I brought it of for a refund. Being a genuine trader he was more than happy to oblige and give me a full refund. Frustratingly this macbook had already grown on me enough to the point where I was determined to research into solution. Initially I suspected a HDD fault so I went to attempt a apple internet recovery, all that solved was my blue screen of death and changed it to a grey screen of death. Digging deeper it was clear from countless others in my situation that the issue was being caused by the GPU.
Now I'm no apple genius but I have enough of a computer technical background to know when something has not been done right. Now clearly apple has done wrong in the manufacturing process of GPU soldering and thermal paste application. This issue is nowhere relevant to software except for the point in which the system switches from the integrated to the faulty discrete GPU like it's suppose to in high-intensive tasks. Having this macbook for only a day and some determined researching its pretty simple to join the dots. The soldering process and material they used was doomed to fail from the start, eventually all 2011 models with discrete GPU's will burn out, it just depends on how well their owners have taken care of them. In regards to the thermal paste application you will be able to see from my images the kind of care and pride apples has undertaken in applying it. There was more around the CPU & GPU than there was on itself, that's like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with most of the peanut butter and jelly smeared around the plate. Considering this laptop would of cost close to 4500NZ back in the day I can't imagine what other original 2011 Macbook owners are feeling.
What makes it worse is that apple techies you go to will say a full logic board replacement will be needed from your own pocket when your macbook was already doomed, isn't that a way to rub further salt into the wounds Apple. Opening up my macbook it was obvious to see that the logic board inside was not the original and sometime during it's lifetime it too had a full logic board replacement. However I can't say if it was for the same reasons. Regardless it's obvious that replacing the logic board does not solve the issue and wastes everybody's time and money.
Apple, these macs require two things.
-A solder repair for the GPU
    -A re-application of thermal paste
It's really not that much to ask considering the worth of these laptops, also wouldn't you rather have these leaving a legacy of the ultimate desktop replacement than apples shameful ticking time bomb?
I'm typing this of the very macbook having these issues so for anyone who wants a temporary fix please refer to the free gfxCardStatus software which allows you to force integrated graphics only. For now it's stable but dreadfully hinders the potential this beast was made for.
"Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations."
"Quality is more important than quantity. One home run is much better than two doubles."
    Steve Jobs
In hopes that apple does not remove this post.

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
In the Activity Monitor application, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the  Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • TS4088 MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012): Intermittent black screen

My new MacBook Pro is running Mountain Lion and the screen suddenly goes black while I am working. It seems that the machine is running, but the screen just goes black and does not show the login box or anything else.
In order to get back to the login, I either have to restart it, or close the machine and open it again.
This seems to be the same problem reported for the MacBook Pro 2010-2011.
TS4088: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video).
Any idea on what is going on??

I too have started having this problem. I am running OSX 10.9.4. Has anyone gotten any answers to why this may be happening? This issue just recently started. I can't say it was caused by any recent update.
