Macbook Pro 2011 Playing WoW

Was able to play wow on both the 17inch and 13inch models today.
VIDEOS WILL BE POSTED TO YOUTUBE TONIGHT!
17in w/ 6750m - ran WoW on ultra settings with only sunshafts and shadows turned down 60+ FPS ALMOST EVERYWHERE!
in the middle of org i was getting on average 50-70fps, smooth as butter at the native res!
The amazing thing that blew me away way in the middle of org, almost maxed settings, the cpu was at about 10% load, using about 1.5gb of the ram. AMAZING!
Load times between Org and Arathi Basin was about 4 seconds.
15in w/ 6750m - was not able to play on it, but performance should be the same or slightly better than the 17in because of the smaller screen size.
13in $1199 model - Ran WoW med settings 50-60 fps in and around ORG. smooth as butter also.
cpu was at about 25-30% load.

That's good to hear about the 13 inch, base model too.
I really felt like the 13 incher was left out once again in this update. Removing (Odd word to accompany an update) discrete graphics, failing to upgrade the display to even the level of the macbook air 13 incher... But hey maybe the new i5/7's are good enough to save the day, maybe the integrated graphics will hold their own.
It would be great to see some comparisons in wow (or other games) performance between the 2010 mbp and both the i5 and i7 versions of the current gen.

  • 3 week old Macbook Pro 2011 now has dot in middle of screen?

I bought my Macbook pro 2011 Hi-res 15" Glossy - Configured to Order  3 weeks ago from the Apple Online Store. After installing and playing a game this week, I notice that a grey dot appeared in the middle of the screen, especially noticeable when browsing on safari, with a white background.
Is this a dead pixel or stuck pixel? what should I do? What can Apple do?

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, take your Mac in for evaluation and ask. We are just fellow users, so we can't speak for Apple.
Pixel problems are a judgement call--Apple will determine what should be done on a case by case basis. If Apple determines that the display is unsatisfactory because of this flaw, you might possibly get a replacement display, especially since your problem is in the center.
    Good luck!

  • How hot exactly can a macbook pro 2011 get before overheating.

I want to play games on my macbook pro 2011, but I only want to play ones that will not overheat it, and it tends to get hot on some of them, how hot exactly can they get? at what temperature will they overheat? is there a way to check?

You may download from the Internet iStat pro which monitors the internal temperatures of the MBP as well as the fan speeds.  The temperatures can get as high as 100 C. but before any harm can occur there are internal temperature sensors that will shut the MBP down.
    Ciao.

  • Cannot enter Root User / OS X Lion 10.7 / MacBook Pro (2011)

    Hi all,
Pulling my hair out here; if any one can help I'll buy them a Corona or two.
Trying to enter Root User (in order to change the short username and home folder). Here's how it goes:
    - New MacBook Pro (2011) / Lion installed
    - Brother decided to play with it before I got home, set up a username etc
    - I connected my iMac and MBP via an ethernet cable and Account Migrated all my stuff over to the MBP
    - I deleted the account my brother setup for me
    - Realised the 'Home' folder and short username was still that of my iMac (Joss iMac etc). Wanting to be factually correct looked into changing this via Root User
    - Turned on Root User via Apple recommended way (Directory Utilities)
    - Enter password
    - Logged off as 'Joss iMac'
    - Tried to logon as 'root', fails every time. All I get is the shake of the password box like the password is wrong.
I've tried pretty much all of the obvious sugeestions (i.e. renaming password, turning RU off and on again, reboot etc).
If any one can help, like I said, Corona's all round.
    Thanks again,
    JT

go to Systemsettings, Users & Groups and change "Show list of Users" to "Name and Password Box".
Root is not shown by default.
And if else fails you can boot into single user mode // do it via Unix terminal on the command line.

  • Is it bad for the MacBook Pro to play World of Warcraft?

Is it bad for the MacBook Pro to play World of Warcraft?

There will just be a little more wear and tear than "normal" use, because the heat goes way up and the fans max out while playing, as with most gaming. I guess that affects the overall lifespan of the laptop.
I played all the time on my MBP early 2008, and still play on my 2011 MBP. The '08's fans had to be replaced but still works fine.

  • Crysis 2 on MacBook Pro 2011 13,3" core i7?

Can i run Crysis 2 on my Macbook Pro in high definition? How many fps? I have a 2,7 ghz core i7 2011 Macbook Pro 2011.
Can I change the Intel 3000 HD? Can i Install the amd radeon hd 6000?
    Thanks in advance!!

No, sadly it is not practical or possible to install a replacment gpu in a macbook pro.  If you really need to play games, than you should purchace an imac or a 15" macbook pro with the upgraded gpu.

  • Ram upgrade for macbook pro 2011

Hi people, i have a 2011 macbook pro with 4GB RAM ; i7 quadcore processor.   I am planning to upgrade the RAM. I dont really need it because I do not play games anymore neither do I do any video or photo editing, i just use it with xcode mainly. But my question is not whether i need it or not !  I need someone who has done this before to tell me the differences they noticed after the installation. Was there a big difference, small difference, and what was it. I know what more RAM will do. I just need to know if there is a big difference or not from 4 to 8 specificall for the macbook pro 2011. I am running Lion by the way. If someone could suggest some websites were i can buy the RAM at cheapest price that would be splendid. Thanks !!

I've bumped my ram up to 8 GB. However, I did that because I used programs like Photoshop and usually have five or more application running at the same time. If what you say is your MBP usage leave it alone you don't need it.

  • Unable to watch Adobe Flash / YouTube - OS X 10.6.6 - New MacBook Pro 2011

    Hello,
    I'm new to Mac family.
I recently got new MacBook Pro 2011 15" model. However I'm unable to watch videos on YouTube. It shows Adobe Flash Player is out of date. My MacBook Pro software up to date. I tried to download and install latest version of Flash Player from Adobe website. Installation went successful, but nothing works.
I tried on both Firefox and Chrome builds too. I even restored MacBook Pro to default settings. I'm just wondering, whether Mac supports Adobe Flash Player at?
Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone else have a solution to this issue that does not involve doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard? That solution is not acceptable to me.
I did a system migration from a Time Machine backup when I purchased my new 2011 MacBook Pro last week. All my applications seemed to be working normally until I attempted to watch a YouTube video in either Safari or Chrome. In both browsers, all I get is a black screen where the video should be playing.
I downloaded and installed the latest version of the Flash Player for Safari and I am not able to manually update the Flash Player for Chrome since that browser keeps the Flash Player up-to-date automatically. The black screen persists when attempting to watch a video on YouTube. I cleared the site cache for the Flash Player just in case something was buggy there, but the problems remains.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

  • Macbook Pro 2011 VLC Media Player test

Could you please load the activity monitor and play a 1080p .MOV file with the VLC player?
I'd like to see your results (CPU %) since I'm wondering if everything is ok with my Macbook Pro 2011.
(please also post your MBP 2011 specs with your results)

Maybe it's a better idea to use the same video file.
Could you download this HD trailer and run a test with the the VLC Media Player and the activity monitor?

  • My macbook pro 2011

macbook pro 2011 will not give chime sound on start up. speaker very low no bass effect.. can anyone help!!!!!!

I have the same issue, except im on Snow Leopard. Done EVERYTHING!!! i get no chime on boot, just a quiet "pop". I've had my right speaker/subwoofer assembly replaced and still the same thing. Everytime i play music, or whenever any audio signal goes to my internal speakers, it quietly "pops" and has NO LOW END SOUND. Headphones and anything else plugged in works fine. I'm using a Macbookpro7,1 which is the 13in mid 2010 model. So far, I've had NO helpful information on this, and Apple expects WAAAAAYY too much money for something like this. SOMEONE TELL ME SOMETHING THAT HEPLS PLEASE!

  • My Macbook Pro 2011 wont boot properly. only when batter is disconnected. HELP

    hi all.
i have recently bought a macbook pro, 2011 i5 4GB knowing it wasn't fully working, but i need some help.
when i try and power it on, nothing happens at all (it did turn on once for about 10 seconds, then shut itself down.) i have since been playing around with it, fault finding, and i have found out that if i have the battery disconnected, and have it connected to the charger it works! (if holding CMD+D.) i have tried running the hardwear test, but when holding down the relivent keys on startup it just continues to load the OS X as normal. i do not have the start up discs either. im not entirely sure where to go from here, id love to know what could possibly be causing this fault. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Update - I've got it all powered up, updated etc. it only doesn't start now after a forced shutdown (holding off button) if I press shutdown, restart etc it works fine. Really want this sorted, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm ripping my hair out! Thanks

  • 13" Macbook pro 2011 heats up fast!

I just bought a macbook pro 2011 13" two days back. I don't know what is wrong with it but it is getting heated up like really fast. and then it starts to make this fan noise. The battery doesn't last very long as well. Is there a problem with just my mac

yes it is getting proper ventilation. i just play videos for like half an hour and it gets heated up. or if i have like itunes and word and safari open together, even then it gets heated up! the temperature in the room is around 15 degrees so i don't think that is too hot.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.
