Macbook pro 2011 wont boot

Hi,
I need a help regarding issues with my macbook pro. I am getting bluescreen on start up. Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzryrh5x-Rs
I did new reinstall of mountain lion but it was working for about 10min, after I did first update, I did restart but it just stopped at grey screen.
I went also to apple shop, they did tests and said that all HW tests are ok and it should be something software related.
What could be causing this issues? Could be logic bord regarding all HW tests?
Interesting thing is that when it is doing recovery it can be powered whole night with no problems.
A also did pram reset but no luck.
Tnx
Miha
Macbook pro, late 2011, 2.2 i7

Run these steps first. I see you reinstalled. Run the other troubleshooting options, particularly in the second article.
If you see a blue screen at startup - Support - Apple
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup - Support - Apple
If it persists, run the Apple hardware test. It could be your logicboard ...specifically thinking your discrete GPU since this has been such a big issue for these models.
Using Apple Hardware Test - Support - Apple

  • My Macbook Pro 2011 wont boot properly. only when batter is disconnected. HELP

    hi all.
i have recently bought a macbook pro, 2011 i5 4GB knowing it wasn't fully working, but i need some help.
when i try and power it on, nothing happens at all (it did turn on once for about 10 seconds, then shut itself down.) i have since been playing around with it, fault finding, and i have found out that if i have the battery disconnected, and have it connected to the charger it works! (if holding CMD+D.) i have tried running the hardwear test, but when holding down the relivent keys on startup it just continues to load the OS X as normal. i do not have the start up discs either. im not entirely sure where to go from here, id love to know what could possibly be causing this fault. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Update - I've got it all powered up, updated etc. it only doesn't start now after a forced shutdown (holding off button) if I press shutdown, restart etc it works fine. Really want this sorted, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm ripping my hair out! Thanks

  • Macbook pro a1150 wont boot past kernel, stuck on gray screen.

got a macbook pro a1150 ati 1600 gpu.  last for characters in sn are vww.  will not boot past gray screen after the gray screen with the apple logo.  it has a fresh install of 10.6 on a new hard drive from a laptop of the same exact kind.  when in target mode and its Hard Drive used as a boot divice, it will boot.  no broken graphic on startup with the apple icon and the pin wheel spinning.  boots to safe mode just fine, will even do updates.  but will not boot from the NEW hard drive or the dvd rom.  when i put the old hard drive in with 10.5 it wont boot past the blue screen and the same with the 10.5 install disc i baught.  reset pram, changed ram, removed wifi card and even tried disconnecting the dvd rom but still will not go to the login screen.  even disabled auto login (when it was in target mode).  do i reflow the gpu? is it a gpu problem?  one thing strange.... in safe mode, lines show up on the mouse icon and just that.  the rest of the screen shows everything fine, i've seen this before with the nvidia chipset but not with ati.  how do i fix it?

to better explain... the macbook pro in question never get to the blue startup screen which happenes before the login menu.  not though dvd rom, hard drive, external dvd rom or external hard drive.  just stop there.  i hear the hard drive working / dvd spinning and the computer reading the disc but after a few min of just seeing the grey screen both would spin down.

  • Macbook pro (retina) wont boot - can't get to recovery

I'm having a bizarre problem with my Macbook pro retina 15".
I was using bootcamp/booted into windows and playing Star wars the old republic when the machine suddenly froze, then the display started going into lots of squares of multiple colours.
When I try to boot in to OSX it freezes after the apple logo and the small cirle stops. If I try get to the recovery by pressing cmd + r the same thing happens. I've also tried using the internet recovery option, the same thing happens after it connects to my wifi etc.
If I press alt during bootup to get to the different drives to boot from, the icons (i.e. OSX or bootcamp) are displayed but are slightly brown and look a bit distorted. If I select bootcamp and try to boot into windows the squares/distorted screen issue starts again.
I have also tried booting from a mountain lion install usb i made - same probelm as above: freezes after apple logo.
I've also tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM or whatever its called.
Does anyone have any ideas I can try as I can't call Apple care til Monday now?
    Thanks

Nope. Your only option is to take it to an Apple Genius Bar as your system is FUBAR. More then likely a hardware problem from over heating.

  • Macbook pro 17" wont boot up

    Greetings,
I left my macbook working on my desk , when i came back back the computer was in sleep mode, the computer woke up but the screen did not turn on, however i could hear the sounds of OS X when i clicked on the volume keys but no video. after holding the power button for 7 seconds the computer turned off. when i tried restarting the computer the sleep light would light up and remain solid, but it would not boot.
Took the ram out and the sleep light blinks 3 times, but when i put the ram back again but it goes back to the solid sleep light with out doing nothing
    some steps i took
-battery is fully charged and it charges the battery
    -unable to do a pram
-took off battery and disconnected form wall and hold the Power button for 8 second
i would also note that this machine had the logic board replaced due to the nvidia 8600gt recall.
    Thank you in advance
    -Illankid

well i took my mac to an apple authorized service center, the tech told me that computer does not boot up and thus they are not able to perform the "nvidia test" which mean that the laptop does not fall under the recall. so im stuck on ordering a new logic board on my dime.ill update on my decision.i am missing it.

  • Macbook pro retina wont boot

A week old laptop refuses to boot have tried everything availiable online still no luck!
    Are apple skiming on quality?

Many thanks, will try and get it replaced if lucky as get back to London on the 13th of January as presently in Kenya. Was happy with my original bought last year which has worked flwlessly so picked another for my daughter, however having it die in less than ten days is a pain as gave it to her as a Christmas present.
What is the procedure when you book a genius appointment?
Are they supposed to get it working while you wait?
If they cant manage this do they replace the same machine?
    Any advice is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • MacBook Pro: Tiger wont boot past grey apple screen w/ spinning gear, HELP!

    Hey everybody,
I have a 1.83 Ghz MBP with 512 mb of RAM (lame I know). The other day someone was using my computer to burn a CD on iTunes when all of my programs began failing. On instinct I rebooted my computer to solve the problem. Alas, now I cant boot past the grey apple screen, and the gear is spinning away. Saddest part of the story is that I had time set aside to back up my computer the day after this happened . Anyway what is the best thing to do from here? I haven't made any moves to fix it yet really, so what is the best thing that I can do to try and get my files back?
    Thank you,
    Sam A.

Hi, I posted to you in yoour other thread.
I very much doubt Disk Utility or fsck will fix an +Invalid Node Structure+ error. That's a pretty serious error and DU is just not robust enough of a utility to repair it.
If Disk Utility can't fix it, you'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy. Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand.
If you have a good backup, hopefully a clone of your system before you had issues, an Erase and Install will also rid you of this issue. But, beware! You will lose everything on the drive with this procedure. Let us know if you need help with that!
    Cheers! DALE
p.s. If the +Invalid Node Structure+ is real bad, there's a risk even the mighty DiskWarrior will not be able to help. Normally it will come thru; it's only in the severe cases it won't be able to do it. If you don't have a backup, and need the data bad, it's worth the try!

  • My macbook pro currently wont boot, when i turn it on it leads me to internet recovery and after that to the utilities pannel, when i tried to reinstall ox lion it didnt show any disk what do i do?

    someone help me plz thanks.

    The internal drive has failed.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • How do I uninstall Yosemite please ? Since I upgraded my 2011 MacBook Pro will not boot up

My 2011 MacBook Pro will not boot up following my upgrade to Yosemite. How do I uninstall or downgrade back to the previous version of OS please ?

You can't downgrade or uninstall unless you first erase the drive. Try the following:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Macbook Pro (2011 Model) suddenly does not boot from SSD in main bay

I have been using Macbook pro 2011 and Samsung SSD (256GB) for about a year.
All of sudden, the computer will not from SSD from the main bay, but it will boot from the optical bay.
I have tried an Intel SSD 120gb which came with the computer, but it does not work either.
However, it will boot from the regualr hard drive from the main bay.
I have read somewhere that it could be due to the hard drive flex cable.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

It may very well be a problem with the SATA cable... for some reason (and I don't know why, but...) SSDs seem more prone in 'detecting' a faulty SATA cable than a standard hard drive. Where a hard drive will boot, an SSD will not.
I would advise purchasing a new SATA cable - from ifixit.com or powerbookmedic.com - and replacing the cable. That (normally) clears up the problem.

USB drive with install image is showing in Startup Manager on a Mac Pro, but wont boot. Showing circle with cross strip, and shut down automatically. USB device are made and work on two different MacBook Pro, but used on Mac Pro. Any help?

OS X installers have always been fairly specific, hardware-wise. I haven't read anything reflecting that situation with the Recovery HD, so it may be that the Recovery HD created for the MacBook Pro does not have the necessary drivers for the Mac Pro. Obviously, nothing definitive here, but a possibility.
