Macbook pro 2014 torx size

I just bought a Macbook Pro 13".  I am installing a Samsung SSHD.   What size torx screw driver do I need to take off the bottom.  I have down to a T5 but I need one small than that.

dickdraper wrote:
THanks, but the bottom is held by 10 extremely small torx screws, not Phillips. The 2014 MBP Is completely different.
The bottom panel on a retina MBP is held by Pentalobe screws, not Torx, a proprietary format by Apple.  The driver can be purchased on Amazon.
When you mentioned the SSHD, that prompted my initial response, but when i noticed the retina MBP, then that resulteded in my alteration.  If you have a 2014 MBP, there currently are no SSD upgrades available from third party sources.
Ciao.

  • How to connect new Macbook pro 2014 to iMac 2010 for a secondary display

I have a new Macbook Pro 2014 and an old iMac 2010. How can I connect them to have an additional secondary display? I thought I would need a thunderbolt cable with a Thunderbolt to Mini DisplayPort adapter but I can't find that. There's lots of options and I don't understand what would be best.
    Macbook Pro 2014
    iMac 2010
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Nathaniel,
Thunderbolt is another way of calling it a Mini Displayport, thunderbolt is just faster and has more usage with other products (i.e. hdds, displays etc.) You can hook up a thunderbolt to a mini-display port because both are the same size and serve the same function. Just don't connect anything to the display port on the iMac other than a computer.

  • 1TB flash storage on MacBook pro 2014

    Hello everyone,
I'm interested in the latest MacBook pro 2014, and planning to get one.
According to the spec on the website, it says MacBook pro 15" could be configured to 1TB flash storage.
Does anybody know what is the brand of the flash storage? Samsung or SanDisk? Or both?
Is its component size same as M.2 2280 or 2260 PCIe SSD?
Can we replace it by our own? I mean, can we buy a M.2 2280 or 2260 PCIe SSD to replace it if it fit?

    Thanks

You then may be risking voiding the warranty.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro 2014 (16gb ram) running very slow in excel.  Can anyone help?

My Macbook Pro 2014 is running extremely slow in Mac Excel 2011.  I just recently made the purchase (Last week) to upgrade from my Macbook Pro 2013.  The upgrade was for work as I handle large spreadsheets in my new role.  It would take some time to load before, and I was told it was because I only had 4GB of RAM.  Now, I have 16 GB of RAM and it runs slower than before.  Can anyone assist me with a solution?

  • My Macbook Pro 2014 ran out of battery while mid-slideshow. Now the slideshow won't skip through photos and I can't figure out why? Macbook Pro 2014 13-inch Intel i5 8GB RAM 128GB flash, iPhoto library is on external HDD

    Macbook Pro 2014
    13-inch
    Intel i5
    8GB RAM
    128GB flash SSD,
    Integrated Graphics
iPhoto library is on external HDD
I was in a slideshow, with around 1,911 photos in it. About halfway through, my Macbook ran out of battery. Now when I restarted and charged the Macbook and reopened iPhoto, the slideshow won't advance through photos, and I can't figure out any reason why it would do this.
I thought it may be corrupted, so I deleted and reinstalled iPhoto library, iPhoto itself, and disconnected and reconnected my external HDD.
This didn't work, the photos still won't advance.
I don't know any reason why this would be happening, and there is ample space on my internal drive.
I'm happy to provide more information if needed!
    Many Thanks,
    James

Make a few tests, James, to narrow down the problem and find out, if the slideshow is corrupted, your iPhoto Library, or settings in your account.
To test, if only your slideshow has a problem, create a new slideshow, just for testing. Just use "File > New Slideshow" and add a few photos. Does this slideshow play correctly?
If the test slideshow does not play either, create a new iPhoto Library. Use the File menu in iPhoto: File > Switch to library > Create New. Import a few photos and create a slideshow.  Does it play?
If even a new library does not solve the problem, test in a different user account (see this document:  Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support):
This process involves creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.
Create a new standard or admin user account in Users & Groups preferences.
Use these instructions for OS X Mavericks.
See these instructions for OS X Mountain Lion.
See this video, or these instructions for OS X Lion.
Optional: If you have any specific files you wish to test with, copy (don't move) those items to the /Users/Shared folder in the Finder.
Log out of your current user account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in with the new account you created.
Attempt to reproduce the issue you were seeing in your regular user account.
After you have completed testing, log out of the test account by choosing Log Out from the Apple () menu.
Log in as your regular account.
After you have completed all testing with the test user account, you may want to delete it. You can delete an account in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.
Note: Prior to deleting a test account, make sure you are completely done with it. If you have files in the Guest User you wish to keep, you should copy them to the /Users/Shared folder .
If you should find, that slideshows only play in a new user account, post back.

  • Mac OSX Lion on a Retina MacBook Pro (2014)

    Hi,
I need to install Mac OSX Lion on a Retina MacBook Pro (2014) on a second partition. I have the installer for Lion and everything, but I'm not sure if it will work on such a new mac. Any experiences?
    Thanks
    Marco.

It won't work. You can't install an older version than the Mac shipped with.

  • Macbook pro 2014 vs 2015? HELP!

so i wanted to make a purchase for a Macbook Pro, my friend said that i should get the macbook pro 2014 retina display, instead of the newest one and avoid all the fees reasons being i want to play games (not huge graphic games) like second life and The sims 4 on my device, I'm huge on graphics and i hate choppy games, my friend says that the Haswell Processor 2014 macbook pro is enough for my needs rather then getting the macbook updated version, soon the prices will drop for the 2014 edition and i can get the Macbook i want for a affordable price.... any tech savvy people got any advice... oh and i don't want the macbook air lol

Apple doesn't sell the 2014 MacBook Pro anymore (maybe they do on amazon or ebay or something). I would go for the newest one if I was you.

  • Can MacBook Pro 2014 non-retina upgrade ram to 16G

I wonder if my MacBook Pro 2014 non-retina can be upgraded myself to have 16G ram. Do anybody know that?

I assume that you have a 13" (2012) model.  If so you may install 16 GB RAM.
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MD101LL/A&step=config
Even though Apple says 8, the MBP will recognize 16 GB.  The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
    ciao.

I am really addicted to this game, so please help me install this game on this machine. Dont say u can't. as this machine is more powerful than any other possible over this planet.
    Please help me.
    Thanks

No, the Boot Camp partition MUST stay on the boot drive - in your case the SSD.
Very wise of you, however, to put the SSD in the HD bay instead of the optibay. That's where your Mac 'expects' to find the boot drive and where it should be installed: doing otherwise can cause problems with your system.
Sorry that I wasn't able to give you the answer that you probably wanted!

  • MacBook Pro (2014) Kernel Panics

    Hey Guys,
I just got this new MacBook about a month ago, and for the past week I've been having multiple and regular kernel panic restarts (Pro 15" 2.2 GHz, i7, 16GB DDR3, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, OS X 10.9.5).
I'm not sure what to do, and I'm not sure where this is coming from. It seems to happen without a **** of a lot of rhyme or reason, but I notice hangs (maybe just in my mind) when my laptop is connecting to or disconnecting from an external HDMI monitor.
I thought I might have contracted some malware, but have done a few Sophos scans and things, and have continued experiencing somewhat regular crashes over the last few days.
Since I'm within 30 or 35 days, I was just going to march myself back up to the Apple store, but thought I would check to see if something I'm missing is in these logs. Below are KP logs from one pre and one post-sophos panic crash...

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi KengShengzim,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below provides a ton of great suggestions that should help you resolve the issue that you described.
    OS X: About kernel panics
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742
For OS X Lion and earlier, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Power button for several seconds to turn off your Mac.
    Turn on your Mac.
As soon as your Mac starts up, hold down the Shift key to start up with a Safe Boot into Safe Mode. Note: If you are using a third-party external keyboard and cannot start with a Safe Boot, try using an Apple keyboard instead.
If your Mac has another kernel panic starting up, or while in Safe Mode, go to the "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" section below.
If your Mac starts up without a kernel panic after a Safe Boot, restart by choosing Apple menu () > Restart…, then let it start up normally.
Important: If the Mac has another kernel panic within a few weeks, refer to the "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" section below.
Note: If the hardware and software on the Mac checks out as OK, yet recurring kernel panics still occur, it is possible that something on the network is sending the Mac malformed network packets. In these situations, check the devices on the network. Make sure the router's firmware is up-to-date, and that the router is functioning. Refer to the router's manufacturer for service and support.

    I hope this helps.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro - Change MTU size kills internet (Jumbo Frames)

Hi everyone, i'm hoping someone here can enlighten or help me solve my problem I'm having.
I am trying to change my MTU size to enable Jumbo frames on my 13 inch Mid 2010 Macbook Pro. I recently bought a ReadyNAS Ultra and would like to speed up transfers to the unit.
    My setup is as follows:
I have my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 and 2010 Macbook Pro (Core 2 Duo) wired via cat6 ethernet to my 5th Generation Apple Airport Extreme. The Airport Extreme is connected via cat5e to my AT&T Uverse Gateway which is set up to allow my Airport to assign DHCP and NAT (gateway is in bridge mode with wireless off).
Anyways, I have enabled Jumbo frames on my ReadyNAS, when I enable them on my MBP.. it applies fine. It disconnects / reconnects the ethernet like it should, but then my connection drops. I can't see any devices on my LAN and I cannot access any internet websites, but according to the network pane I am still assigned a valid dhcp address. When I manually try to increase my MTU size, the same thing happens (from 9000 to 1600 I tried every size).....
Could it be my MBP just can't suppose the increase of MTU size? It leaves them at 1500 when I set it to automatic... if it doesn't support the increased MTU size, why would it let me custom change the MTU and even give an option to select "Jumbo Frames (9000)"?
I appreciate any help in advance!!

If you did read my post then you would have saw that the option is there, but that is not entirely what my inquiry is about. The option isn't working as intended, and I was wondering if anyone had the same issues as me. Thanks anyways.
    Anyone else?
The way you responded to someone trying to help you probably means others will be hesitant to try.

  • Macbook pro 2014 with ASUS PB287Q and SAMSUNG U28D590D

    Hi
I was wondering if my new macbook pro 15" 2014
    2.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
    512GB Flash Storage
    Intel Iris Pro Graphics+Nvidia GT750m 2GB
will work with the ASUS PB287Q 4K or the samsung U28D590D?
I read that if u connect it with HDMI you only get 30Hz, is there a way to get 60Hz with the macbook pro?
They both have a displayport port.
    Thanks

I just hooked up my ASUS pb287q and downloaded SwitchResX.  It took some playing around but now I'm getting near perfect retina (2x) resolution.  First choose "Scaled" under the 'display' tab then switch over to SwitchResX and go to the  'current resolution' scroll down to the bottom and select 1280x720, 60hz (HiDPI).  This will give you the retina quality.  It's really big but remember it's twice the resolution of 1280x720.
If it's too big for you, you can play around the other resolutions, but this is the setting I would recommend.
I tested this in Adobe Photoshop CS (uses retina standard) and opened a document that was 2572x5760, it fit perfectly at 100% zoom.
    I'm using a displayport 1.2 and a HDMI 1.4 4k cable.  links provided below.

  • Connect MIDI device to Macbook Pro 2014 using Logic Pro X

I recently bought the newest 13" Macbook Pro (October 2014), and I am having trouble using the newest version of Logic. Before I got this laptop, I was using a 2011 Macbook Pro; I could just plug my MIDI cable into my old PSS-480, plug the USB into the computer, select "External USB/MIDI Track", and it worked perfectly. Now, when I select "External MIDI Device" it asks me to select the MIDI ports on the keyboard as output's or something. I don't know what preferences to select on Logic or my laptop to make it work, and I know that the computer and Logic are both recognizing my keyboard because I've set up the Audio MIDI app thing on my laptop. Can anyone tell me step-by-step instructions to help me fix this problem? Thank you!!

    Jim
Thanks for the advice. Unbelieveably I was sitting down to follow your instructions and the thing just worked in any case (after 2 days of trying!).
    All is well!
