MacBook Pro 3,1 - no video output

My MacBook Pro is exhibiting signs of graphics card failure. I can't get video output from the main screen or the DVI port. Apple claims I need a pricy logic board replacement. Anyone else had the same issue?

DVD drives read the bottom of the disk, not the top. Smooth out the paper & try again.

    1. Connect it to a monitor.
    2. Replace the hard drive.

  • MacBook Pro 2008 and HD video

    Hi!
I need to record some family events in HD video, preferable with stereo sound.
I have a MacBook Pro unibody autumn 2008 (core2duo and discrete GeForce 9600M GT with 512 MB + Firewire 800) and iMovie ´09.
I would rather use a Hard Drive video camera because of the storage and file transfer speeds.
    Questions:
    1. If the video camera has only HDMI output, how do I transfer the files to my MacBook Pro?
    2. Based on your own experience, can you recommend a specific model (up to 1000 dollars)?
    Thanks

I think that every video camera I've looked at has USB or Firewire out.
It seems like HDMI couldn't have all that great metadata with time and date and stuff. You definitely want to buy a camera that connects to the computer!

  • Macbook pro 13inch freezing playing videos, please help!

    Hello all,
    Here is the scenario:
I have a macbook pro 13" running windows 7 via bootcamp. Recently a window pops up telling me there was a major update available for bootcamp and some other stuff. I downloaded it right away. Even though I was running windows 7 at the time, it seems like it was the mac os that was telling of the update. Anyway, I have not seen what if anything the update fixed as my keyboard light is always on no matter what.
But right after the update I noticed that my computer keeps on freezing after playing youtube videos. In fact any video from any website will freeze it anywhere from 10 seconds to sometimes over a minute. Sometimes it does it even when the video is on my hard drive right when it ends or if I stop the video midway.
I thought the culprit was google chrome I had intalled right around the same time I downloaded the update. However after I uninstall google chrome, the problem still persist.
    Is there a fix?
Am I alone here or have others experience the same thing?
    thanks in advanced!

You may want to post in the Boot Camp forum to target the specialists over there. I don't know anything about Windows or Boot Camp, but does the problem occur in OS X as well?

  • MacBook Pro won't recognize videos on my Canon Vixia HG20

I have a Canon Vixia HG20 and had no trouble copying video to my Mac laptop in the past. Now I have a MacBook Pro and when I connect the camera with a USB cable, the videos are grayed out and the computer doesn't recognize them. The videos play fine on the camera itself. Also, the still photos show up on the computer and transfer easily. I've seen older posts & sites (2008, 2009) that are related to this issue, but I'm not sure they apply anymore. Any new help for 2012 out there? Please explain in layman's terms, as I am not very technically literate. Thanks!

Go to the Canon Drivers and Software page here and download the March and April software updates for OSX Lion. This should help in transferring video.
There is also a firmware update for the camera here.

  • Macbook Pro Retina and Yosemite Video Corruption?

So I have a Macbook Pro Retina (mid 2012), 2.7ghz i7, 16gb ram, which has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB video card and integrated video.  I am running Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10
I have been experiencing a lot of video corruption in different applications, it doesn't seem to be limited to just one application or two -- it is happening in Safari, Mail, Photoshop, and others.
I am attaching screen shots to show:
Here is a video when it decides to flash weird video garble:

Has anyone experienced this same problem?  is there an official name or description for what is going on?  Is there a fix?  It is quite frustrating.

I have the same problem with my older white Apple Wireless Extended Keyboard, which had been working fine with my 2009 iMac. But I experience the issue sporadically with my new Mac Mini. I've read reports of people resolving some BT issues by turning off "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" in the Advanced pane of the Bluetooth System Preferenes Pane.
There are also people having the issue on iOS devices using various Apple BT keyboards. No help, but interesting to note that it's happening across various devices, keyboard models, and OSs.

  • My macbook pro runs slow, iTunes videos keep stuttering. Nothing has worked to solve this issue. Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2012 2.5GHz i5 with 8GB RAM upgrade.

    Hello everyone.
I have been having this issue for a few months now and nothing works to resolve it. The biggest issue is that iTunes videos constantly stutter ever few seconds, the audio portion of the video is not effected. The most I have open at once is Safari, Skype, and iTunes, and possibly Open Office. Videos will even stutter with nothing else open other than iTunes. At times it sounds like the computer is running something in the background from hard drive noise.
I even upgraded the RAM to 8GB and it still has this problem! Nothing looks wrong in Activity Monitor other than occasionally the memory usage spikes up to 6GB, but even then the memory pressure graph is green. I dont understand how these non-intensive programs can use that much. The hard drive is barely 1/3 full.
Please help with a solution as nothing has worked so far. Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • MacBook pro 15 late 2011 video issue

When will Apple recognize the problem with the video on the MacBook Pro late 2011?
I have found in many forums and newsletters people who have the same problem? 800 euros to repair a MacBook, which is not even 3 years old, has cost more than 2,500 euros is not normal. As I said, many customer have this problem. I wait 80 minutes on the phone and then get the message that problem exists but you can not do anything is not very customer friendly.
I'm shocked.I hope Apple is very fast in the sense of its loyal customers.

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me!!!
I recently purchased the a new Macbook pro (13inc) and having trouble watching videos. After downloading two applications (Dixv Player, and Flash player) in particular after reading the forums here, I can now watch Youtube clips, and films. HOWEVER - I went to go onto a tutorial on the apple website and it wouldn't play. I can hear the audio but there is no picture When I click the video tutorial it opens the video in Dixv.
    Really hope someone can help!
    Thank you in advance.
    Johnny

Thanks so far for your help Andy.
The main problem I got is that I want to be able to play all videos from Apple tutorials, to other downloaded items / videos from various sites. I have deleted the Divx programme as suggested, however, I then cant play other films.
Im in a bit of catch 22 situation, ay? If I delete Divx I can watch apples tutorials but cant watch a load of other videos.
Ideally (hence why i got the Macbook Pro) I would like the play all videos!!!???
Thanks again for your help Andy and any other suggestions are much appreciated, or, if you could direct me to where I may be able to find more advice.
    Thanks again.
    Johnny
    P.S
There must be a way whereby my Macbook pro can find the appropriate programme (ie, when clicking on a video link) to play the tutorials, through Quicktime player for example.

  • Macbook capable of 720p/1080i video output along with 5.1 sound??

I'm planning to buy a Macbook soon (the standard 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo one) but I wanted to ask some current owners a couple of questions first. All I'm going to use the Macbook for are basic tasks such as surfing the web and word processing. The only system intensive task I want to perform is playing 720p/1080i video (movies and/or home videos). I have a desktop PC hooked up to my HDTV now, but I'd rather get rid of it and just plug the Macbook in occasionally to watch a movie or whatever.
The 2 concerns I have are: i) Does the digital optical output actually work? Were any of you actually able to find this cable? How's the 5.1 sound quality, if anyone has heard it? ii) Is the Intel GMA 950 'video card' along with the 2.0 processor powerful enough to show h.264/x.264 videos without lagging/chopping?
All responses are of course greatly appreciated, but I would most love a reply from a current same model Macbook owner actually watching HD video with surround sound. Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

the digital output is spidif so the 5.1 would be emulated not true 5.1.

  • Macbook Pro vs iMac for video production

Hello - I need to invest in a new system for production of HD videos, typically music videos less than 4-mins, which make heavy use of Premier Pro and Effects. The priority is real-time editing and fast rendering.
I had more or less settled on the following:
15 inch Macbook Pro with retina display, 2.8Ghz i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD drive, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5 memory. I can get this with an education discount for just under £2000.
Then I started wondering... is this the best option? Is there a better iMac option for the same price? Portability is not an issue.
Any help from people in the know very much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

Video editing is best with the best/fastest processor you can afford and loads of RAM - 32 GB - (which you can install yourself later at a much lower price), so you can compare the machines you are considering to see what the benchmarks are (google benchmark tests). Remember though: even a Mac Pro will still take time - video editing/rendering is a massive processor intensive task - it will not be instantaneous.  If you are into heavy editing, etc I would seriously consider a Mac Pro.
As for transfers, if your camera uses an SD card, I'd consider using a USB card reader (or a built in reader if there is one) - it'll be just as fast and save the camera battery.
