MacBook Pro 4,1: Backlight completely gone

I've replaced:
Inverter : 25 $
Inverter (2nd try) : 25 $
Cable : 30 $
This is getting to be a very expensive fix.
Logic board is dead maybe ? 17 " MacBook Pro4,1 The screen works when installed in a 15" MacBook Pro I have for testing. Also ended up swapping all of the inverters around in a desperate attempt to eliminate parts.
Anyone else have any more testing ideas?

    My new MacBook Pro Retina keyboard backlight always on under room light?
    I've to turn it off manually.
    But if under sunlight, it doesn't lit which means the ALS is working, may be just not that sensitive enough under ML.
    ML problem ?
    I saw those display set at retail is working under room light but running Lion not ML.
    Is ML really have problem ?
    Should I reverse to Lion ?

    No need to revert back to Lion.
    May be resetting SMC will help.

    See if a SMC reset will breath life into them:

    If not, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation. Warranty status is irrelevant.

  • What could cause my MacBook Pro to stop working completely?

    What could've caused my MacBook Pro to stop working completely?

    Who knows.  Dead battery for example.  You provided no details.  Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.
    Which model MBP do you have?  Care to share which OS you are using?

  • MacBook Pro to hdtv via thunderbolt gone wrong..

    I hooked up my MacPro to my hdtv and was playing around with the resolution. The screen has now gone green and won't revert back... Anyone know how to fix or am I buggered???

    Which screen?  The MacBook Pro or the TV?
    If it's the MacBook Pro, it sounds like the video card has gone bad, probably through the process of multiple changes of the resolution, but maybe nothing at all.  If it's a relatively new MBP, just take it back for repair.  The video card cannot be replaced, the whole motherboard needs to replaced.

  • Macbook Pro Uneven display backlight

    Hi
    I would like to know if uneven backlight on my macbook pro is covered by warranty
    it was hard to get a good picture but,
    http://the.cave.in.googlepages.com/uneven_backlight.jpg
    sometimes its even worese
    the display also flickers sometimes very lighyly (at 50hz etc.)
    also
    is there a good reason that while probing apples site
    i could not find a single support e-mail address ?
    cheers.

    If the screen lighting is as bad as the photo seems to demonstrate, then yes, it's definitely a problem that would be covered by warranty. The screen should never actually flicker, though, since an LCD is refreshing pixel-by-pixel at 60hz, perhaps your brightness settings keep changing? If not, then it could even be the inverter (if you're using one of the CFL (pre-Santa Rosa) models). Either way, I'd try to get over to your nearest Apple Store when you can.

  • My MacBook Pro can not start completely it stays on a blue scre

    I restarted my MacBook Pro but left a USB plugged now it can not start completely it stays on a blue screen where I can see the pointer and sometimes a small icon which indicates its processing something. It has being like that for two days. I can not even turn it off I have to hold the bottom to force it to shut off.

    i know this may be silly but i hope you removed the usb device while restarting.
    If you did then hold up the option key as soon as you press the power button. It will bring you to a bootfolder selection choose your main partition and boot up. Alternatively if this does not help then do a PRAM and SMC reset. If these things fail then select recovery partition and go to disk utility and repair permisions for the main partition within the first aid section. If all else fails you would need to re install the osx, hope you have a back up.
    Since you have not told us what model and year the mbp is if you have the recovery discs with you use disc 2 and read the insturctions on the disc as to what key you should hold.

  • Macbook Pro A1286 No Backlight

    Hi emin94h,
    I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues with the backlight or video on the built-in display of your MacBook Pro, you may find the troubleshooting steps in the following article helpful:

  • My MacBook Pro's screen had just gone white while working.Can someone help me out?

    I am Using a MacBook Pro 13", While i was working my scree has just gone white. I tried restarting my MacBook. But still the screen is just showing a white color. Can someone help me out?

    "However, at a LAN party a few months ago, a friend pointed out some issues with my screen on the left hand side."
    So um..... you never saw these flaws until this friend pointed them out?
    Apple Stores are not the only place to have Macs repaired. You can take your comp to your local AASP. First you should call AppleCare like the previous poster stated.

  • Macbook Pro Aluminum gmux backlight support pommed

    On my model (Macbook Pro 5,2) and others with simliar graphics setup (two nvidia cards), on kernel 3.10 and some before, backlight support is in the kernel, and the device is at /sys/class/backlight/gmux_backlight.
    Pommed v1.40git does not know about this driver. If you want pommed to handle the LCD backlight, it needs to know this path.
    This is a matter of a simple 4 liner patch: http://pastebin.com/sCNjtuwD
    I can't find where to submit this patch upstream though. Any help?
    Also, max_brightness is 16055, so modify your pommed.conf to some reasonable values:
    lcd_sysfs {
    # The sysfs backlight control is a generic interface provided
    # by the Linux kernel for backlight control on most graphic cards.
    # The brightness range can differ depending on the hardware.
    # initial backlight level [12] (0 - 15, -1 to disable)
    init = 14000
    # step value (1 - 2)
    step = 1000
    # backlight level when on battery [6] (1 - 15, 0 to disable)
    on_batt = 9000

    I guess I'm looking for help in finding where development happens upstream.
    The last commit on master here: git://git.debian.org/git/pommed/pommed.git was in 2011.
    I suppose it's not actively developed? Maybe in that case, the package maintainer could include this patch?

  • Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro 15" - weird backlight spotlights on top??

    Hi there, does anybody have an explanation of how the backlight works on Retina MacBook Pro? I had three 15" machines this year and all of them are showing these kind of dark shades on either side of the camera. I use this picture only as an illustration, it's not that intense in real life. All would be fine, but you get to notice this difference in illumination every time when moving among fullscreen apps. It's really annoying. Do any other models do the same thing? Thanks for any info.

    The LED edge lighting of the LCD screen is being light-blocked just a hair from the camera and its tiny circuitry.
    normal.
    However if you wish to contact Apple about your options, ...thats up to you

  • I recently got a used macbook pro, and the backlight on the keyboard doesn't light up all the way, I was wondering how much it would cost to get it fixed..

    MacBook pro keyboard doesn't light up all the way, I don't know why and I was wondering how much it could cost for repairs.

    If there is Warranty or AppleCare it will be covered at Apple Store. If no coverage, Apple does not repair iPhone 4 Power/Lock Button, for $149 they will give you a perfect replacement iPhone 4 exactly like yours with a 90 day Warranty. For the time being or as a permanent solution you can use perfect Virtual Lock Button. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap the new small white screen button > Device > Lock. You can even use this button to turn the iPhone OFF. To turn iPhone ON, connect to power, ie charger or USB port of computer.
